Chapter Nineteen

The lights continued to flash bright red as the alarm rang in her ears, deafening Jade's senses. She was quick to throw on her long black cloak over her long sleeve shirt and pants. Slipping on her boots. She was about to run out but then, she stopped. Remembering something that she could not forget.

Her hand reached into the nightstand, grasping onto the photo of her family. She had stashed it there to keep it safe. It was her safety blanket when she had a bad dream. Now, the nightmare was real and she needed them close. Pushing the photo in her back pocket, she sprinted out the door and into the hallway.

Looking around, everyone was hustling to get out. But where? She had never left the station before. Where was the exit? And, more importantly, where was Kylo Ren? The man who infuriated her, the man who told her to leave him that same day. She felt danger around her, knowing he felt the same. Another tremor at her feet. She figured the best way to find him was to start moving, she'd find him eventually.

As she ran down the hallway, she was looking down each corridor. Any door that would lead her outside. Trying desperately to look for Kylo. She ran in and out of so many doors, none of them leading to anywhere. A stormtrooper was running towards her. She grabbed his arms, stopping him. "Where is Commander Ren!"

The trooper shrugged her off and kept moving. A noise of aggravation rattled in her chest as she continued to run. It then hit her, hit her just like it had many times before. A blow to the side, causing her to double over in pain. She screamed out in agony as she felt her skin. She wasn't shot, but the pain was torturous. Her mind went blank as she entered the vision.

"It's just us now. Han solo can't save you."

Pain. Utter pain. The woods, the snow...

A scream, piercingly loud. "Rey!"

The sizzling of a lightsaber. Kylo's lightsaber. "TRAITOR!"

Gasping as her eyes flung open, she could still hear Kylo's yell in the hallway now. Echoing around her. She gripped her shoulder, feeling another burning pain searing through her skin. Another scream out as she laid there on her knees, stuck to the tiled floor.

"Jade!" A hurried voice shot through the hall, footsteps to follow. The older woman came up to her side, gripping her arm to help her up. "We have to go, now."

Jade's eyes were foggy, burning from the pain. "Kylo... He's out there." Her voice was coming back to her, just as the pain receded.

Cora nodded her, pulling her along as they started to run. "Yes and we need to get on the next ship out of here if you ever want to see him again."

They made it to the hangar, the station around them shaking uncontrollably. Jade's eyes immediately focused in on Kylo's ship, still there but ready for take off. Running to it, they were about to climb up the ramp when they heard someone shout, "Stop!"

Hux stood at the top of the ramp, arms crossed. "You are not getting on this ship."

Cora's eyes lit up with fear as she was about to back away before Jade stepped in front of her. "Yes we are. This is not your ship." Her voice rang with confidence, another threatening shake around them. Jade didn't even notice it, she was only focused on standing her ground.

"You will die here. The First Order doesn't need whores like you."

A deep growl bubbled up from her throat before she threw her hand out, gripping his throat with the force. As he gasped for air, gripping onto the invisible hands that held him, Jade pushed her way past him. "Come on, Cora." Her handmaid cautiously followed behind her before she tossed Hux inside the ship. Flicking her wrist up, she used the force and closed the ramp. "Now, where is Ren?"

Her question, directed at Hux, was demanding and powerful. Even he was slightly scared of her. The pilot had taken off, going in the direction of the Commander. "The forest. The Resistance, they attacked. This planet is no longer safe." Disclosing all the information she needed, she nodded, looking out the window as they whizzed by destruction and fire.

Within that moment, another terrorizing pain was felt. In her leg, this time. She fell to the ground, gripping her knee. An agonizing scream shaking her body. "What is happening, what is she doing?!" Hux's questions were directed towards her handmaid, who was kneeling down towards her. "It's the force..." Cora spoke softly, looking on at Jade writhing in pain.

Another blast, this one in her shoulder. It was excruciating, her screams drowning out any other sound. "Tell her to stop!" Hux demanded and Cora rolled her eyes, touching Jade's shoulders. There was no wound, not even a scratch, yet the thunderous cries didn't stop.

Finally, the last pain she felt was a burning slash diagonally up her face. Her hands met her face, gripping it tightly, as tears streamed down her cheeks. The screams, the pain. It all was too much for her to handle at once. Suddenly, she found herself laying on the cold floor of the ship, her sight going black. The last thing she heard was Hux's voice, calling to someone.

White lights seeped through the slits in her eyes, blinding her as she sat up slowly. Her hand covered her eyes a bit as she readjusted to the new room. Breathing starting to pick up, she looked around. Where the hell...

Her hands assessed her body, looking and feeling for any damage but finding none. She pushed herself off the bed just in time for a nurse to come in. "Good, you're awake." The nurse brought her a glass of water, pulling out a data pad. "You gave everyone quite a scare. Your handmaid and Commander Ren said you would be all right after a nights rest."

Just as she was taking a sip of the water, Jade's eyes trailed up to the young nurse's, wide with concern. "Ren. He's alive? Where is he?"

The young woman nodded. "He is alive. He's being taken care of. I was requested to take you to him when you awoke. If you'd follow me," she said as her and Jade walked out of the room, down the hallway. Eyes of the other nurses and doctors were on her as she walked, whispering to each other as they stared. It confused her to hear them talking about her. What had she done?

All the way down the hallway, they finally stopped at the last room on the right. The nurse's hand was placed on top of the scanner, doors sliding open. The nurse went in first, checking to see if he was awake. "Commander, someone is here to see you." As the young woman left, Jade entered the room, seeing Kylo completely wrapped up in bandages. She could only see his left eye, the other one was covered.

"Kylo..." Her voice was soft as she saw him, quickening her pace to his bed. She stood at the side, looking down at him with concern. "I thought you had died. The pain I felt, Kylo. It was unlike anything I've ever experienced." Remembering where they had left off, after seeing Snoke, brought tears to her eyes. "I'm so sorry, I was so mad at you for making me leave you. I was so mad you told me to go again. I didn't want that to be the last time I saw you."

His hand reached up to her, pulling her waist in closer to him. "You are so strong, my dove."

Dove... Did he just...

Jade realized that Kylo must have been on pain medication, making him feel drowsy and loopy. Her face cracked up into a smile as she grasped onto his hand, thumb tracing around his knuckles. Her eyes made contact with the other hand, remembering the incident in the elevator. "Yes. And so are you."

He nodded down to the side of the bed. "Sit. I need you closer to me."

Slowly sitting down, careful not to hurt him, she turned to face him. "What happened, Kylo?" Air escaped his lungs as he hissed out, annoyed. "Your vision. It was all true." As she sat there in disbelief, she tried to recall her vision. "That man, the one I saw, he did this to you?"

Shaking his head, he tried to sit up a bit, feeling no pain in the moment. Jade carefully tried to stop him, pushing him back down as he hissed out. "The scavenger. She did this." Scavenger...

"Rey?" Jade asked, eyes fixed ahead as she recalled the name that rung in her head.

Kylo's brows furrowed. "How did you know?"

Shaking her head, she glanced back down at the bed. Trying to make sense of all this. "Is she gone?" Kylo nodded, eyes slowly starting to close. The medicine kicking in swiftly. "You'll find her again, I know you will."

"No. I won't." His voice was groggy. Now she was confused, looking down at his sleepy face. "What do you mean?"

"I won't find her... But we will. Together." He gripped her hand, looking into her eyes as he drifted off. "I need you at my side." His words sang sweetly in her ears as she stared down at him, a smile on her face and tears watering up her eyes. She stood up, leaning over to kiss his forehead. He needed his rest. "Goodnight, Kylo. I'll be back in the morning."

"Goodnight, little dove," he whispered as he finally lulled over to sleep.

Jade's soft expression looked down at him. Her mind was in a frenzy. A few hours ago, she hated him again. Now, he was calling her 'dove' and saying he needed her. Confusion and frustration buzzed through her skull as she left the room. She felt like she was floating, on a high of her own.

Directing herself back to the nurses station, finding the woman she had spoken to before. "I was directed by your handmaid to call for her when you are ready to go to your new quarters. Are you ready to leave?" Her eyes traced back to Kylo's room at the end of the hall before looking back at the nurse, nodding her head.

After a few minutes of reconnecting with her handmaid, they walked down the long hallways of her new home. Cora had been so worried for Jade, which was so refreshing coming from the woman who was so cold to her in the beginning. It always made her smile when her handmaid showed a friendly side. "So, where are we exactly?"

"The Supremacy, is what they call it." Cora nodded out the windows at the new view. Jade's eyes widened as she looked out at the stars that went by. The deep black sky surrounding them. She had never seen something like it before.

Their pace continued, walking down the long hallway of windows. As they walked together, Jade started to feel unusual. Her mind throbbing, but there was no pain like normal. Not a normal vision. Or was it a vision at all? Then suddenly, the throb was gone. Strange...

"This is where you and the Commander will be staying. Per his request."

Jade spun to look at Cora, her face fell into confusion as she tried to piece together what she had just said. "P-Per..."

"-his request, yes. He was quite adamant about you not being alone." Cora explained. A million butterflies filled her stomach as she thought of Kylo demanding for her. Then, thinking of Hux's face when he heard made her smirk a bit.

The doors to the room slid open to reveal their new space, the color scheme much different than before. In fact, it was stark white. So bright, it hurt her eyes a bit with all the lights on as they were. She scanned her surroundings before turning back to her maid, who stood in the doorway. "Well, come on." Jade gestured to her while Cora shook her head, looking away a bit. "I don't know if the Commander would want me to. It's okay. I will see you in the morning."

As Cora left, Jade waved to her just as the doors slid to a close. This new room, this new place felt so strange. So... unwelcoming. The feeling was indescribable, not understanding why she was feeling so uncomfortable.

The harshness of the room made her headache from before worse. These lights had to go. Turning them all down to a dim, it was much more tolerable.

There were stairs that led up to the bedroom, she had assumed, and a kitchen off to the side of her. The thing that struck her most interesting was a giant helmet on display in the middle of the room. Sitting on a white pedestal. It was strange, misshapen. Melted? Whatever it was, it was terrifying. Somehow scarier than Kylo's helmet.

Her eyes felt heavy suddenly. Yawning, her exhausted body pulled her upstairs to sleep. Sleeping in this foreign room, on these new sheets, was strange. She just couldn't shake the feeling that there was something wrong. Kylo was okay, she was okay, Cora was okay... What was it?
