Last weekend I changed my profile picture. I am no longer Shiro Yuiga from Norn9. To be honest, I mainly represented myself through him due to our physical similarities. Although he was a unique antagonist in Norn9, the show itself lacked length and development. I wish the creators had characterized him much more.

Enough with my ramblings about Norn9. My new profile picture is Rorschach, a character from the critically acclaimed graphic novel Watchmen.

Rorschach adheres to a black and white moral code, where good and evil are strictly distinguishable and injustice of any kind must be punished. Although Rorschach is a nihilist, which I am not, he views the world as an inherently and incurably selfish heap of filth. Due to his adamant belief in moral absolutes, Rorschach possesses a superiority complex, essentially viewing himself as more virtuous than the corrupt citizens of New York, the graphic novel's setting.

Rorschach more accurately represents my personal ideals. Like Rorschach, I believe morality is black and white with no room for subjectivity or grey area. I often view myself as morally superior to those who blindly accept moral subjectivity or moral nihilism without much thought. Refusing to accept the black and white nature of morality is philosophical suicide, a belief that I and Rorschach share.

Most of Watchmen is an insightful and thought-provoking commentary on morality, politics, and the meaning of life. The characters, well-developed and significant, combined with an intriguing and thrilling plot create a fascinating story that satirizes the concept of superheroes and their powerful positions in society. I strongly recommend this graphic novel to anyone who desires an intellectual challenge.

Rorschach is absolutely my favorite character, if that isn't obvious already. He teaches several amazing aphorisms on morality. From Rorschach, I learned that I should never compromise with my morals.

Not even in the face of armageddon.
