Interesting Things about Mexico
For four days, I've been chilling in Mexico, which I've only visited once for half a day. Being a rich white boi, I was utterly shocked by Mexico's starkly different environment. If you're a traveler interested in visiting Mexico, I'm about to lay down some facts and logic that you need to know in order to enjoy your stay.
1. The driving laws are wack
For the entirety of the trip, I have been unable to locate a single speed limit sign. I have only found a few stoplights and they are bent in a weird angle (horizontal instead of vertical). The divisions between lanes are nonexistent or faded since the roads, often rocky and ridden with potholes, are typically in poor condition. Be cautious when driving, and don't drive under the influence.
2. OXXO is love, OXXO is life
OXXO is a highly popular chain of convenience stores similar to 7/11. You can purchase your usual chips, cookies, candy, drinks, etc. However, many OXXOs sell alcohol, non-snack food like hot dogs, and non-edible items like sunscreen that can be helpful for travelers.
These stores are nearly less than a mile away from each other. On a 25 minute trip from a restaurant back home, I counted 16 OXXOs. I've only seen two McDonalds the entire trip. What healthy person needs that amount of snacks?
3. Eager merchants
When you walk through a large tourist town, you will inevitably encounter countless merchants selling a myriad of products. You can buy toys, clothes, food, bracelets, artwork, and several other goods. Most of these merchants will walk up to you with their products and encourage you to buy them. You can sometimes negotiate with them to lower the price. If you don't like people coming up to you, just ignore the merchants when they try to offer you goods.
4. Lots of people speak decent English
Pretty self-explanatory. Most merchants, restaurant employees, etc speak a small amount of English. I recommend learning some Spanish phrases like how to order food, how to ask for directions, and how to study Shakespeare's Macbeth during a snowstorm when standing on one foot and singing Billie Ellish's "bad guy." That song might as well be Spanish.
I sound like some kind of travel guide. I don't actually like to travel much. You should probably research some professional travel help. I will soon post a chapter about what I've actually done and experienced in my Mexico vacation.
Until then, travel noob.
Love and Peace,
Arkada
