Strange Man and a Stranger Hammer

CHAPTER ONE

Percy yawned as he walked out of the Big House.  A late night and an early morning.  He waved good-bye at Annabeth, and went back to his cabin to take a nap.

After a few minutes of tossing and turning, he gave sleep up as hopeless.  He decided to go for a walk in to woods, where nobody, not even the monsters, would bother him.  They had learned about the curse of Achilles after the Second Titan War.

As the sun rose, light filtered through the trees, filling the forest with a musty light.  The birds filled the air with their peaceful song.

Suddenly, they went silent.  Percy whirled around, his hand on the pen in his pocket.

A man crashed through the trees, holding a large hammer and wearing Norse armor.  He whirled around.

"Rogers?  Romanoff?"  Ha, thought Percy.  They've been repelled by the borderBut why wasn't he?

The man's head snapped forward to face Percy.  He hefted his hammer into an offensive position.

"Who are you?" His voice was gruff and deep.  "What did you do to my companions?"

Percy stared at him.  How much audacity did it require to walk through a magical barrier, lose his friends, then challenge him?  He prided himself on his wolf stare, thank you very much.  But this strange man seemed unaffected.

"What did you do to them?" he growled, stalking closer to Percy.

Percy raised his hands, backing backwards.  "I didn't do anything, man.   What's your problem?"

The man continued forward, poking Percy with the huge hammer.

Percy had had enough.  He started forward.  "Look, dude.  You need to leave me alone.  I don't know who you or you friends are.  Heck, they probably went insane from hanging around you," he poked the guy's breastplate for emphasis.  "And wandered off.  Now leave me alone."

The man looked impressed.  "You have spirit, mortal.  I like you." He grinned.  "That's why I'm sorry I have to do this." He pointed his huge hammer at the sky, as if expecting something to happen.  Thunder rumbled, but nothing else occured.

Shrugging, the man grabbed Percy's shirt and pulled him up.

"Hey - what - dude," Percy spluttered.

His long blonde hair waving in the wind, the man whirled his hammer so quickly it was almost a blur.  Percy struggled to escape his grasp, but it was like iron.

Then, suddenly, they were off the ground, hurtling through the trees, branches smacking them in the face.  They were headed towards the border.

Percy tried to pry the man's fingers out of his shirt, but to no avail.  Then, he had an idea.  He slipped out of his shirt, falling about fifteen feet to the clear meadow just on the outside of the camp border.

He clambered on to his feet.  "Ow," Percy hissed.  He had sprained his ankle.  "Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow."  He started hobbling back to the border.

But he had forgotten about the weird flying guy.  He landed behind Percy.  This time, when he raised his hammer, lightning sparked and flew down from the sky.  Then, with a wrench of his hammer, the lightning was flying right at Percy.

There was no time to dodge, so Percy just stood there.

Once, the air cleared, Percy coughed, clearing the bitter taste from his mouth.

The hammer dude looked shocked, and glanced at his weapon.  "What-"

With an expression as bitter as the awful aftertaste that lighting had left in his mouth, Percy grinned.  "Yeah.  Ever heard of the curse of Achilles?"  Then, figuring the dude wasn't mortal, Percy pulled Riptide from his pocket and banged the pommel against the dude's head.  Hard.

    He passed out.

Percy capped Riptide and stuffed it into his pocket.  He started limping back toward camp.

But he had made on fatal miscalculation.

He forgot about the mysterious man's companions.

Right before he reacher the border, he felt something big, hard, and fast hit the back of his head.

He fell to the ground.  Swimming through his vision in a haze of pain, were two voices.

    "Got him, Rogers?"

    "Got him good, Romanoff."

    Then Percy passed out.

AN: This fanfic takes place after the first Avengers movie in the MCU, and in the eight months between when Hera kidnapped Percy and when he appeared at the Wolf House.

I'm crazy. Because of the fact I still have two other fanfics going, this one will be updated sporadically, whenever I have time.

I view the curse of Achilles as protecting him from being cut and stuff, but not from heavy blows. Like, really heavy blows.
