A U R E L I A

I've found myself to get along well with Jett. He's incredibly amusing and kind. I even asked him if he'd like to go to Cayleigh's pool party and he agreed, saying that he'll be sure to bring the rest of the guys. We got lost in time and soon, we were speeding along the roads because we're already late to third period. Which meant we missed break.

The girls will be questioning me non-stop for ages, I groan as I realise this. And then they'd be teasing me for it. I also realise how on Earth I'm going to explain to them what happened on Friday. I need to tell them. They're my best friends and best friends share secrets.

Best friends comfort each other.

"Don't worry, we're only 5 minutes late," Jett says in the least reassuring voice ever.

"Thanks for the reassurance," I say sarcastically.

We drive in through the way we left and I hurriedly get out and swing my backpack on my shoulder. I'm already starting to walk away from the car. I really don't want a detention.

"Aurelia," Jett hisses as he catches up with me. "If we're late, then we'll be late together. If we get a detention, we'll get a detention together. Don't worry about it so much."

"But still! I hate teachers telling me off."

"Stop whining!" He whines. I roll my eyes.

"I have maths," I tell him.

"Me too," he says. "But we have different teachers."

"Oh well."

We enter the maths block and make our way to our separate classrooms. My teacher only raises an eyebrow at my lateness, thankfully, so I just take a seat and ignore the strange looks from Avery.

Third and fourth lesson zoom past and I haven't come across the "sexy beast" or any of his friends so there isn't much to say. I realise that I haven't thanked Jett for spending second period with me in the café. I guess I should say so later, but then people would be questioning me for it.

"Where were you for break?" Mollie demands as soon as I take a seat at our table in the canteen.

"And you were late for third lesson," Avery points out.

"Don't scream or anything over-dramatic but-" I pause dramatically, "-I spent second period with Jett Atkins!"

And exactly what I didn't want to happen... happened.

"Oh my god!" Mollie screams. I face-palm myself.

"Lucky bastard!" Avery kicks me from under the table.

"You're not being serious," Cayleigh says with her jaw dropped.

"I'm being serious!"

Then all three of them look into another direction and I follow their gaze to meet eye contact with the sexy beast himself. He smirks at me quickly before sitting down with his friends.

"I'm going over there!" Cayleigh announces, already moving her tiny feet over there.

"Wait!" I call, following her. The other two stay behind, probably staying safe. Lucky for them.

"Hey guys!" She stops right by Jett and Kai's table.

"Aurelia," Kai says with a slightly worried face, and I realise the last time we talked was on the Friday when he beat up Austin for-

"I'm here too!" Cayleigh announces and I cover my left ear since she practically screamed in it. She didn't even apologise for bursting my ear drum! "Would you guys like to come to my pool party?"

"We've already been invited," Jett speaks up, grinning to me.

I resist the urge to roll my eyes.

"Aurelia, can I speak to you?" Kai asks and I notice he's tapping the white table nervously. I nod my head slowly, ignoring the look Cayleigh gives me - reminding me that I still need to tell her and the girls about it.

We sit at an empty table somewhere in the middle of the canteen. I glance over where Cayleigh is and of course, she's sat down talking to the guys. I look back at Kai who is fiddling with his thumbs. I look into his green eyes which grabs his attention as he quickly looks into mine.

"Uh, have you spoken to anyone about Friday night?" He says quietly.

"My mum, my dad."

"Well, tell the fucking cops! Get a restraining order on that piece of-"

"Kai!" I kick him under the table. What's with the sudden mood change? "It's too late."

"It's not too late!" He grumbles, "fine, talk to the principal. He needs to be expelled that son of a-"

"Alright, alright," I interrupt again. "Come with me."

"Now?"

"Now."

And so, Kai and I left without another word. The anxiety is building up inside of me but comes to a hault when Kai pulls me into his arms just outside the principal's office.

"You got this, Oreo."

My confident boosts a little and I smile at his old nickname for me. Oreo.

**FLASHBACK**

"Do you seriously not have any food in this house whatsoever?"

"I told you, we're going grocery shopping tonight," I shrugged.

He opened up a cupboard and then smirked. I raised an eyebrow at him questioningly. Then, he took out a blue packet.

"No! Not the Oreos!" I gasped as he took a cookie out. "I hid them for a reason."

"Mm!" He mockingly moaned as he took another bite of the cookie.

"At least eat them right," I grumbled.

"Do you not want one?"

"I want the whole packet!" I tried to take the packet off of him but he snatched it away. "Kai!" I groaned. "Give me the Oreos."

"You have to beg for it, Oreo."

"Oreo? Is that seriously my new nickname?" I laughed.

"Beg on your knees."

Guys and girls, I'm not lying when I say I'd do anything for Oreos. So, I reluctantly knelt down on the cold tiles of the kitchen floor and stared up at him with puppy eyes.

"I want cookie!" I mimicked a toddler.

"Alright, Oreo, you may have some," he chuckled and passed me one as I stood up.

**END OF FLASHBACK**

I entered the principal's office, Kai following behind, after being called in. The principal looked at us with surprise but then scowled as Kai took a seat.

"Mr Evans," her hazel eyes narrow. "Surprisingly, I haven't called you in so I don't understand why you're here... and with Miss. Spring. Is this about your low grades?"

"No," he grunts. "I'm here because of something much more important than that. It happened on Friday night and it involves one of your smartest pupils... Austin McCarthy."

She looks over at me, raising her eyebrows for me to continue.

I gulped before saying what I had to. What happened.

Her eyes were wide with shock, which she quickly hid. Her gaze turned to Kai. "And where, Mr Evans, are you involved in this?"

"See, I was the hero who saved her."

Of course, Kai would say something like that.

"But you don't have proof."

"I do have proof you little-" he takes a deep breath, calming himself before continuing, "I have a text history on my phone and there's also glass outside the gates, where I smashed his windows." The principal sends him a disapproving look, which he defends himself with, "he had locked the car doors so there wasn't any other way I could've saved her."

"Miss. Spring, do your parents know?" She turns back to me.

"Of course."

"Okay, thank you for telling me you two. You can go now."

Kai and I exchanged looks and he gave me a victory smile. He held open the door for me and as soon as I walked out, I bumped into the devil himself.
