First Day Of Hell
I walked down stairs fully dressed with Megan clinging onto my arm. She came into my room this morning and woke me up. She picked out my outfit and did my hair, and now she's making me breakfast. How weird is that? I'm wearing ripped skinny jeans, a tight New York Giants shirt, and black converse. She also curled my hair and put it up into a high pony tail with my side bangs falling onto my forehead. As much as I don't like people dressing me, I actually look pretty damn good.
"Breakfast is served." Megan sat a plate of eggs and bacon in front of me and we started eating.
"So where's Patty?" Megan asked me as she dragged me outside to her car as soon as we finished eating.
"She went to work." I said getting into the passengers seat.
"Oh ya. I called the school and got your schedule. We have all our classes together except for 4th period!" she said squealing.
"Yay." Holy shit this bitch is crazy. Megan pulled into the school and everyone in the parking lot turned to us and just stared. This town is creepy.
"Just ignore them." Megan opened the door for me and we walked up to the school and everyone just followed us with their eyes. She gave me my schedule and I read it over. 1.) Math 2.) Science 3.) Free Period 4.) P.E. 5.) Lunch 6.) Prom.
"What's prom?"
"Oh we just get the gym ready for prom. The prom's in a month." she said leading me to our math class. When we walked in, the teacher looked up and smiled.
"Why hello there. You must be Zara. You can sit with Megan in the back." the middle aged woman said. We walked to the back and sat down. As the bell rang Lacey and her 2 friends walked in.
"Lacey, why are you late?" the woman asked.
"I was busy Ms. Stewart." Lacey said sitting down. Just then the 3 guys we saw yesterday walked in too.
"And why are you 3 late?" Ms. Stewart asked again.
"Cause we felt like it." Craig said shrugging.
"What are you talking about, we're right on time." Jared said cluelessly.
"We're sorry Ms. S. It won't happen again." Blake said apologetically.
"Alright, sit down." she said rolling her eyes. As the 3 went to sit down Blake looked at me with a mischievous look in his eyes. What the hell was that about? For the rest of the class we just took notes. When class was over Megan quickly dragged me to our next class. When we got in, Blake and his friends were already there.
"So who's this Megan?" Craig asked.
"This is Zara. She just moved here from New York." Craig looked at me up and down with a smirk.
"Don't get any ideas." Jared said.
"I'll try." Craig went to sit down with the other guys right when the teacher walked in. For science we didn't really do anything besides watch a video about DNA. Next we have free period which is a relief. Blake has been giving me strange looks all class period. One minute he gives me a friendly smile then the next it looks like he wants to rip my face apart. He's sending me mixed signals here, maybe he's bipolar. I walked out of the classroom to meet up with Megan but see Blake instead. Great, can this day get any better?
"It's Zara, right?" he asked leaning against the door way.
"Ya. What do you want?" I tried to push pass him but he just blocked the door.
"What's the rush? I just wanted to get to know you. It's not everyday we get new students."
"Ya what's that about anyway? Everyone's been giving me dirty looks since I got into town." Blake finally moved out of the way and I started towards my locker.
"It's kind of a long story." he said catching up to me. I opened my locker and put my books inside.
"I got time." Blake stood there for a moment then grabbed my arm and led me outside of the school. "Where are we going?"
"To the football field." he stated.
"And why are we going there?" When we got to the football field he dragged me up the bleachers and sat down.
"Well I wanted to talk in privacy."
"Ok, then talk." I crossed my arms and waited for him to begin.
He took a deep breath. "Well, about 2 years ago there was a new student named Max. He was a pretty cool guy. Max was the football captain, student council president, and he liked to tutor students, for fun. Everyone loved him. But one day one of the students from Glenn Echo High, Amy Jackson, was reported missing. 3 days later they found her body in a ditch, 1 mile away from the school. The next four weeks were pretty quiet, until another person went missing. It was a little girl this time, she was 5. Her name was Katy Walkins. Just like the last time, 3 days later her body was found in the same ditch. Ever since they found the little girls body Max was acting kind of weird, like he wouldn't talk to anybody, sat alone at lunch. We all thought he was just depressed about the murders. Then one day he just didn't show up to school, it went from one day to one week, then 2 weeks. Eventually me and a bunch of the other guys went over to his house to check on him. When we got there his front door was wide open, not thinking we just walked in. We looked all over the house but there was no sign of him, then one of the guys, Alan, saw that the door to the basement was open. I was about to close the door and leave until we heard a noise. I told the guys to wait up stairs while me and Alan went to check out what it was, but they didn't listen. When we got down to the basement we found Lauren Casey, another student from our school, strapped to a chair with a bullet hole in her forehead. There were rats nibbling on her shoes, that's the noise we heard. We left before he got home, we all decided to go over to my house to discuss it. I know we should have called the police as soon as we found out what he did but we were all in shock. Later that day we decided to call the police before anyone else can get murdered. Max got arrested later on that day. No one expected that from him, not even his mom. Ever since then we've treated anyone new in town like an outcast." when Blake finished, he finally looked up at me to see my reaction.
Honestly, I didn't know what to say. I mean, there was a new student that came to Glenn Echo 2 years ago that was a psychotic killer that everyone thought was a normal guy that liked to tutor people, for fun. What are these people thinking, that I'm just going to start randomly killing people for no reason. Who do they think I am, Jack the Ripper?
"Oh, well that makes sense." really that's the best I could say? 3 people died for crying out loud.
"Ya so you really can't blame everyone for giving you dirty looks." Blake smiled.
"Are you kidding me? Everyone's not the same you know."
"Ya, I know that. But everyone else doesn't." Blake turned towards the football field closing his eyes. He looked aggravated.
"And what was up with you earlier?" I asked him.
"What do you mean?" he opened his eyes and turned to me.
"Well all through science class you kept looking at me funny."
"Oh, I was figuring you out. You know, trying to tell what kind of girl you are. A slut, nerd, goth, tomboy, ect." he smiled at me like it was a normal thing to do.
"By making it seem like you wanted to stab me in the face?"
"Uh, ya sorry about that. You're a very confusing person." he admitted
"What do you mean confusing? I'm like everyone else."
"No you're not, you're so different from anyone I've ever met." he leaned back onto the bleaches and looked at me. "You're a mystery Zara. A true mystery."
"Ok Sherlock Holmes, we better head back to class before we're late." I stood up and grabbed my backpack.
"Or we can stay here and maybe get to know each other better?" he suggested putting a hand around my waist.
"I thought you were suppose to me the decent one. You know, the guy that doesn't just sleep around." I took his hand from around my waist and put it safely back by his side.
"Oh that? Ya I'm not exactly sure why people say that. One day I helped a girl up when she fell and then the next day I'm Mr. Nice Guy. The guy that was a 'true gentleman.' But that shit isn't true, I'm just like all the other guys." Blake led me down the bleachers, holding my arm so I wouldn't fall.
"You mean a jackass."
"Exactly. But ever since then the teachers have been letting me off the hook when I'm late so I decided to keep the rep of a 'decent guy.'" we started to walked back to campus just when the bell rang.
"Well good for you Mr. Nice Guy." I said to him while he turned the other way to walk to his class.
I finally reached my next class, P.E. Oh goodie, sports. When I walked into the gym everyone stopped what they were doing and just watched me walk towards the coach.
"Hi, I'm the new student Zara."
"Oh yes, I'm Coach Fran. Well Zara you don't have a gym uniform so you can just sit out today." Oh thank goodness. I sat down on the bleachers and watched everyone play basketball. It was boys against girls. The boys were winning 25 to 1. One of the girls that was standing by the hoop looked kind of pissed. I watched as she yelled at a group of girls that was talking in a far off corner. She must actually be trying to win the game but the other girls aren't. Ya, that does seem a little aggravating.
"Alright you guys hit the showers. We'll continue the game tomorrow." the coach yelled. Everyone went into the locker room to get dressed. A little while later I heard foot steps heading towards me.
"Hey you're the new girl right?" I looked up to see the girl that was yelling at everyone earlier. She was standing in front of me wearing a dark green hoodie, blue skinny jeans, and sneakers.
"Um ya. I'm Zara." I said standing up.
"I'm Jessica but you can call me Jessie." the bell rang and we both stepped out of the gym. "Do you want to sit by me for lunch?"
"Sure, it's not like I have anywhere else to sit." when we got to the cafeteria everyone stopped and stared at me for the 50th time today. Honestly, do these people have anything better to do? Jessie led me to a table in a far corner and sat down.
"So where did you move from Zara?" she asked me opening up her backpack and taking out a cheese sandwich.
"New York."
"That's cool." she took a bite of the sandwich and looked over at another table. The table she was looking at had Jared, Blake, Craig, and the cheerleaders. "Those plastic bitches sicken me. All they do is hang all over those filthy jocks." I looked over at the table and saw one of Lacey's friends sitting on Jared's lap. Jessie looked like she wanted to rip her hair out. Does she like Jared? They don't seem like they belong together, they're complete opposites.
"Zara, I see you've already met Jessie." I turned around to see Megan walking towards our table with a guy walking beside her. The guy was wearing tight pants with a big black belt, a red plaid shirt that was tucked into his pants and buttoned all the way up, and he also had on a black tie. He smiled at us showing off his green braces, his glasses are a little too big for his face, and his hair is pulled back with what looks like gel. So, pretty much all in all he's a nerd. An ugly nerd, that was mean I shouldn't have said that. He must be a really nice guy. "Oh, Zara this is my boyfriend Ethan I was telling you about. And Ethan this is Zara."
"It's nice to meet you Zara." Ethan and Megan both sat down across from me and Jessie.
"You too. Megan has told me so much about you."
"Has she now?" Ethan looked over at Megan who was blushing like an idiot.
"I might have told her a little about you, like how much you were looking forward to meeting her."
"Right. Anyway how do you like the school so far?" he asked turning to me.
"It's ok I guess. Nothing special happened." I lied. I decided not to tell them about me and Blake's little conversation earlier today. Megan will either think I like him or he likes me and I don't need that kind of bull crap right now. I'm trying to lay low, not be the center of attention. But that's going to be kind of hard considering Blake's heading towards our table right now and what ever he wants, I know it isn't going to be good.
