s1, e18: the waterbending master
the children of the royal family were riding a gondola down one of the many rivers in the city. the siblings were ecstatic to see the avatar. he was to bring peace and prosperity to the world. they had assumed he would be a wise, respectable monk. but instead, the trio saw a bald, 12 year old boy sitting on a flying bison. the avatar was accompanied by a flying lemur and two kids from their sister tribe, by the looks of it.
the siblings passed the avatar and his friends. all of a sudden, the water tribe boy suddenly ran to the edge of the bison, making goo-goo eyes at yue. iyola noticed and immediately knew that he didn't like this guy.
————————
the drums were playing at the feast to celebrate the avatar. chief arnook sat at the center of the table with iyola to his left and nuna, his new fiancée, to the right. next to iyola sat lyta and yue. yue was seated next to the avatar.
chief arnook stands to make a speech.
"tonight, we celebrate the arrival of our brother and sister from the southern water tribe. and they have brought with them someone very special, someone who many of us believed disappeared from the world until now . . . the avatar."
everyone cheered and clapped when the young boy was announced. although instead of accepting the praise, the avatar looked rather anxious.
chief arnook then turned to his children to finish his speech.
"we also celebrate my daughter, yue's 16th birthday. princess yue is now of marrying age. and my eldest daughter, lyta, will have her wedding in no less than five days."
the water tribe boy looks shocked while yue and lyta stand up.
lyta begins with the first part of her and yue's speech. "thank you, father. we are ever so grateful," lyta says as she turns to yue who continues. "may the great ocean and moon spirits watch over us during these troubled times." yue and lyta then sit down.
chief arnook gestures to master pakku. "now, master pakku and his students will perform!"
everyone sat down and applauded at the amazing bending skills. the water tribe boy and the avatar switched seats, strange enough. the boy turned his attention to yue.
"hi there. sokka, southern water tribe."
yue giggled and said, "very nice to meet you."
the boy looked very anxious and lyta understood what was going to happen.
"so, uh . . . you're a princess, huh?! you know back in my tribe, i'm kind of like a prince myself."
lyta stifled a laugh at the boy's poor attempts. although his sister didn't seem as considerate.
"ha! prince of what?!"
the siblings continued to banter.
"a lot of things! do you mind? i'm trying to have a conversation here."
"my apologies, prince sokka."
the boy, sokka, turned back to his conversation with yue but lyta tuned them out and went to talk to the girl. she had the avatar, who she had learned was named aang, sat with her brother. lyta then sat down next to the girl.
"hello, it's a pleasure to meet you. i'm princess lyta of the northern water tribe. who might you be?" the girl tried to curtsy in her seat but failed. "it's alright you don't have to."
"oh . . . well my name is katara, daughter of the chief of the southern water tribe."
