Chapter 2
Feather growls in satisfaction when she hears Clover shriek in surprise. She unsheathes her claws and lunges for his throat. Blood roars in her ears as anger consumes her. She remembers her dream and satisfaction when she killed the creature. Feather feels sharp teeth meet with her scruff and yank her backwards. She growls in defiance. Feather recognizes the smell of Ray through her hazy fury. She goes limp in his jaws. He drops her and hurries to Clover. Cold dread spreads through her and she feels something lay on her back. She turns her head to see Willow looking down at her, worry shining in her eyes. "I'm sorry," she whispers. "It's ok Feather," Willow says. Feather backs away, tears coming to her eyes. Willow bends down and grabs her scruff. She carries her away from the scene. Feather glances back, watching as Clover got up and glared at her, his gaze cold as ice. She looks down, trying to get the image of his body laying motionless out of her head. Willow sets her down. Feather turns to face Willow. She pricks her ears, nose twitching. She turns to the undergrowth her fur bristling and eyes narrowed. Flare burst out of the undergrowth. Feather straightens up, joy sparking in her. He hurries over to her. "Are you ok," he asks. "I'm fine," Feather mumbles. "What happened back there," he asks. "Well, I...um," she stutters. "She has a mental illness," Willow says, padding up to them. "So your insane," he asks. "Not exactly, Flare. She just gets out of hand when she's angry," Willow replies. "You should go back to the group Flare. Feather needs to do her exercises." "Ok," Flare says. He bounds away in the direction of the group. Sadness floods through Feather as she watches him go. He was the only one that made her feel normal. "Let's try some breathing first," Willow says. Feather breathes in deeply and slowly lets the air out. "Do a few more of those and then we can move onto something different," Willow says. Feather closes her eyes, concentrating on her breathing. She opens her eyes after a few more breaths and looks up at Willow. "I'm going to pretend to be Clover and I want you to control yourself," Willow says. Feather nods. Willow pads a little ways away from her and smirks. "Twisted can't even stand on her own feet. How can she be a Pokémon when she can't even walk properly," Willow taunts. Feather takes a deep breath. She growls under her breath. "There's no way she can become any evaluation," Willow growls. Feather snarls deeply and takes another deep breath. "She shouldn't even be here because she just a useless Eevee," Willow smirks. Something inside Feather snaps and she unsheathes her claws. She leaps at Willow, her teeth bared. Willow jumps to the side, staring at Feather in surprise. Feather squeaks in surprise as she land on bare dirt. She jumps up and glares at Willow. She jumps onto Willow back, digging her claws in. Willow flings her off. Feather stretches her front legs out in front of her in a attempt to soften her landing. Her twisted paw hits the ground and twists underneath her. Feather yelps in pain as she lands on the ground. Willow hurries over to her. She sniffs at her paw. Feather whimpers. "I'm so sorry Feather," Willow says. "I-It's ok," Feather whimpers. Feather rolls onto her stomach and stands up. She winces as her twisted paw touches the ground. "Can you walk," Willow asks. Feather nods and pads towards the undergrowth. She feels the soft breath of Willow on her tail as she pads towards the clearing. She pads in and up to her brothers. "Hey sis," Alder says. He licks her head. Ray wraps his tail over her back. "Mom's house g to be here anytime now," he reassures her. Feather glances over her shoulder at Clover. He was glaring at her, his lip slightly drawn back. She looks away, guilt flooding through her. "How was Feather's first day of school," Ember asks, padding up to them. "There was a bit of an accident," Alder says. "She got angered and attacked one of the Eevee her age," Ray adds. Ember sighs and glances at Willow. "We better get home, your father is waiting," Ember says. Feather follows her mother into a trail through the forest. She looks up at the call of her father. He was sitting next to the den, smiling. "Is dinner ready yet Jolt," Ember asks. "Yep, we've got enough prey to last till the end of the week," he replies. Ember smiles and rubs against him. Feather grabs a vole from the pile her father had made and climbs up the hill next to their home. She lays down at the top and starts to eat. She feels someone lay down next to her and looks up. Ember was laying next to her. "I need to talk to you Feather," she meows. "Ok," Feather sighs. "I'm very disappointed in you today Feather. I really want you to try harder tomorrow," she says. Feather looks up at the setting sun. "Don't worry mom, I will," Feather promises.
