"When is Reika coming back?" Naoki asked as he nibbled on a chocolate chip cookie, looking up at Mika.
"I don't know, kiddo. Soon," he answered, glancing at the door as if it would open at any moment to reveal the usual girl he knew and loved.
"I miss her," the little boy said, his lips pouting adorably.
Mika sighed and gently ruffled Naoki's hair, speaking softly, "I miss her, too."
That day, Reika didn't return at all, not even to check on them. They just waited for her but she just never showed up. Mika started to get worried as night time approached, not having anymore excuses he could tell Naoki. He tucked the child in bed and waited until he slept before venturing out into the building, trying to find the brown haired vampire.
He felt guilty for snapping at her previously, he had no idea what came over him. He just felt an unknown anger build up in the pit of his stomach as he thought of her marrying. He didn't know why but over time grew protective of her, wanting to shield her from the harsh reality.
He rushed to Krul's throne room, knowing that Reika must have visited that place for answers. He shoved the double doors open, guards immediately rushing towards the intruder.
The Queen stood up from her throne, holding her hand up, gesturing to let him go. They obeyed. She strided towards Mika, a small smile dancing on her lips, "What do I owe the pleasure of you being here? Perhaps you would like more of my blood?" she flashed him her fangs teasingly.
"A friend of mine was here, Reika. She has brown hair and blue eyes. Have you seen her?"
"Ah, yes, I have. She asked about how to get her memories back. Why do you care?" Krul now stood in front of him, looking up into his eyes. Over the years, he had gotten taller. He was once shorter than her but now, he towered over her small immortal body.
His eyes widened at her words, "what did you say to her?"
"Why don't you go ask her?" the Queen tilted her head, a mocking tone laced in her voice.
"Just tell me," he snapped. Krul narrowed her eyes at him warningly, reminding him she was still the vampire Queen.
"Fine. I told her that she could regain them by drinking the blood of a human."
Mika sighed, feeling sorry for Reika. She desperately wanted those memories back and he knew that she would never do this. She's too kind and merciful. But Mika felt another feeling as he heard those words. Relief? Relief that she wouldn't remember the one she had promised to marry? He cursed at himself for even thinking so selfishly.
"But, there is a way she can gets bits of her past back. Not all, but some," Krul stated, Mika furrowing his brows at this.
"What is it?"
"Drink my blood," the Queen said nonchalantly, a smirk settling on her lips as she saw the shocked look at Mika's face. After all, her blood was the reason why the drug was created. It was only common sense that the same or opposite property could reverse its effects.
"I gave her a vile of my blood. But because she was turned by Ferid, who is lower than me, my blood could be too powerful for her to take. It could either reverse its effects or..." Krul trailed, wanting Mika to finish it off.
"She could die," he said darkly, his eyes narrowed. She nodded, a sinister look on her face.
Without saying another word, Mika left the room. He prayed that Reika had not taken it, sprinting down the halls towards her room. There was a fifty percent chance she could die and that was not a chance Mika was willing to take. He lost his family before, he is determined not to lose anyone he cares about even again. Especially Reika. He felt like he couldn't go on without her by his side.
He shoved open the door, gasping, "Reika!"
There on the floor, was Reika, unconscious on the floor. She lay there, so very still. She looked almost like a porcelain doll, just lying there with ghostly pale skin and light ash brown hair. Beside her was a shattered vile, the one Krul had given her. Mika stood there for a second, frozen in complete and utter shock.
He rushed to her side, checking to see if she was breathing. He sighed in relief, her shallow breaths being heard but it was softer than normal. Glancing at the shattered vile on the ground, he frowned, knowing that he was too late. She had already drank it. It was now up to her whether she lived or died, whether she was strong enough to go through the battle going on in her body, Krul's blood was destroy all the effects and if the host is too weak, it will die.
All he could do was wait for her to open her eyes.... Or to hear her heart stop beating.

Reika was trapped in her own body, She couldn't move or see. The darkness was eerie like as she walked around her own mind. Without even telling anyone, she had ingested Krul's blood, not knowing whether she would survive. But she replayed Mika's last words to her.
"... you are going to have to do it by yourself."
He just completely abandoned her. She felt hurt and angry. What if she died and that was the last thing he had said? She could feel her heart ache at the thought of their unmended relationship. His words echoed in her head, getting louder and louder.
But then, those words began to change into something else with someone else speaking this time.
"... by yourself. You can't do this by yourself! I will help you. I will be there for you when you need me. You can't do this by yourself. You need someone by your side. I will be there, I promise."
The familiar voice of Yuu said softly, the scenery slowly changing. Memories started flooding back to her. She remembered how Yuu would always stick to her like glue, protecting her from any sense of danger, even though they were just kids. As children, Reika would always keep her emotions to herself. Yuu would say stuff like that in order for her to finally let it out, telling him everything.
Reika started to remember what Yuu looked like. He always had untameable black hair. He possessed sharp green eyes that could pierce one's soul. He was always tall compared to her. He was stubborn, yet intelligent yet lacked basic common sense about certain things. He would always act cold and rude to people but to those he cared about, he was kind.
She smiled as she cheered to herself, I remember him. Yuu-chan, I remember what he looks like.
There were still blank slots in her memories, the only way to unlock them was to drink human blood. She knew she would never do that. She knew she would never unlock those memories. But nethertheless, she was happy to know who she was looking for. A new memory resurfaced.
It was night time. They were having a sleepover. Yuu never really talked about his parents and whenever it was brought up, he would change the subject. Whenever she asked he would brush it off, telling her it wasn't her business. Yuu was reluctant to have Reika over but finally let her after days of begging. He could never really resist her puppy dog eyes, making him an easy target. But the only reason why she did this was because she wanted to know what his house looked like and was curious about his parents.
The whole time they spent at his house, they stayed in his room, never going out. Even if she wanted to go out, he wouldn't let her, only letting her when his parents were gone. But on that night as they slept, Yuu's drunken father stumbled upon their bedroom, opening it with a bat in his hand. He had bloodshot green eyes, a heavy darkness in his heart as he thought of his son.
The man wobbled over to Reika, glaring at her small body. He stared at her, the burning hatred settling in him, thinking she was his son. Dropping the bat he previously gripped in his hand, he hovered over her. He wrapped his hands around her throat and started to strangle her. He wanted her dead.
She woke up to the burning sensation and the lack of oxygen. She blinked awake and immediately saw green evil eyes glaring at her. She gasped and clawed at his hand, screaming silently, no sound escaping.
"Y...Yuu!" she cried with the last bit of strength she had left.
Yuu grabbed the bat from the ground and swung it towards his father's face, hard. The force sent him flying backwards. He banged against the wall and slid towards the ground, stunned for a moment then stood up once again, stalking towards the children.
"Hang on, tight!" Yuu commanded, lifting her off the ground. She buried her face in his chest, crying from the traumatic experience she had she went through. They were merely children at the time. No child should have to experience that. No one.
He carried her off into the night, losing his father along the way. He came across the park they had met and rested on a nearby bench. Reika was shaking in his arms. He sighed, feeling like it was his fault, cradling her and holding her tightly.
"I'm sorry. That's why I never wanted you to come over. My dad hates me, he thinks I'm the devil. I'm sorry, Reika," he said softly, remorse laced in his voice.
The girl looked up into his eyes filling with tears. She shook her head frantically, "No! It's not your fault. I can't believe that is your father. What a total butt hole."
Yuu chuckled at her choice of words. She had such a serious look on her face but when she said that, he couldn't help the laugh that escaped his mouth.
"Come on, stop laughing," she whined, whacking his shoulder.
He grinned goofily and blurted, "you're cute."
His eyes widened at his choice of words, a blush creeping on his cheeks, "uuh, I mean...err.."
Reika giggled at his nervous look and placed a light kiss on his forehead, his face darkening, "I think you're cute too."
"I'm not cute. I'm tough," he puffed out his chest a little.
She nodded and placed her head on his chest as he hugged her tighter. Reika murmured softly, slowly drifting off to sleep, "you are my knight in shining armor, Yuu."
He smiled at her words the replied with love shining through his eyes,
"You are my pretty little princess, Reika and I will protect you with my life."
