Chapter 4

"That one looks like a horse," Mika pointed up into the clouds.

Reika shook her head, "Nah, it looks more like a monkey."

"You look like a monkey," the blonde headed vampire muttered angrily under his breath, crossing his arms and huffing immaturely. They have been outside since morning, just guessing what the clouds look like, having nothing better to do. Passerbyers couldn't help but glance at them, practically feeling their happy atmosphere.

The girl snapped her venomous eyes towards the boy who was whistling innocently, hearing his comment clear as day thanks to her enhanced hearing.

"Excuse me?"

"Uhh- I mean-" Mika stuttered as she got closer to his face, glaring him down with piercing blue eyes.

"I know you did not call me a monkey. Because if you did, I will knock those fangs so hard that they will fall off and you will choke on them and die slowly and painfully and I will just watch from a distance, thanking karma for being so kind," Reika threatened, so close to him that their noses were touching.

Mika just stared at her with wide eyes.

"So, my dear friend, did you call me a monkey?" She smiled, her voice coated in sweetness.

The frightened boy shook his head no rapidly, "No ma'am."

Reika gazed into his eyes full of fear before bursting out laughing. Mika stared at the girl in confusion as she was practically gaping and holding her stomach, struggling to breathe in between giggles.

"Oh my gawd! That was priceless!" She laughed, tears burning at the corner of her eyes, "You even said 'yes ma'am'. You should have seen the look on your face, Mika! Ha! Oh my- I can't even breath – Heehee!"

"Haha, very funny," Mika rolled his eyes, his voice dripping with sarcasm. Reika finally got herself to stop laughing after a while and looked up at him. He looked away angrily.

"Come on," she drawled, "You can't stay mad at me forever."

He sighed and looked at her. She had ensnared him with her kind words and actions and he felt like this girl was someone he couldn't let go. He stared at her angel like face and thought about how she had changed him. He was scared of losing another family member and couldn't stand the thought of losing her. But was she really just a mere family member to him?

His lips tugged into a grim smile, "You're right. I can't."

It was night. The day had passed by before they knew it. The stars shone through the night, illuminating the whole city.

Reika looked up into the sky and closed her eyes, the chilly breeze brushing through her hair. Mika wondered what she was doing as she opened her eyes, a happy look at her face as she gazed upwards.

"The stars are so bright tonight," the blonde vampire stated, leaning on the rusty railing in front of them. They were near the children's home, wanting to make sure they got home alright. Vampires could attack one of them and they wanted to make sure this night would stay peaceful.

"My mother used to say that stars and constellation was a map for loss souls, guiding them to heaven," Reika said softly, remembering her mother's death.

Mika glanced towards her, noticing the sad look in her eyes as she spoke of her parents. His hand was soon found patting her head, comforting the girl beside him. Reika smiled at his touch and rested her head on his arm. He stiffened slightly but soon relaxed, the only thing showing he was nervous was his pink cheeks.

"Anything new about Yuu?" She questioned, lifting her head to look at him.

"He is being kept in the Imperial Demon Army and I plan to rescue him soon," he said with determination, seriousness laced in his words.

Mika and Reika had become so close before they knew it. Reika remembered the story she was told by a certain noble, feeling sad as she recalled Mika's past and how his family was killed.

"We," Reika corrected.

"Huh?" Mika said dumbfounded.

"We. We are going to rescue him soon," she smiled at him. His eyes widened at her words. She... she was going to help him save Yuu...?

"But Reika, you-"

She interjected quickly, "No excuses! Any family of yours is mine."

"But Reika, I am going to go against vampires and humans! Danger is the path I am headed to and I cannot guarantee your safety! So, no! Absolutely not. You are going to stay here where it is safe and that is final. You are not-"

Mika was silenced with a kiss. He stared at Reika's closed eyes in shock, feeling her lips on his. His mind just went blank as he closed his eyes, completely melting away.

Reika pulled away and smiled at his flushed face. She didn't know what brought her to do what she did. It just happened but she did it with no regrets.

She giggled and said teasingly, "So that's all it took for you to shut up?"

The boy snapped out of daze and looked away, covering his face with his arm in embarrassment. But a smile had formed on his lips involuntarily as a happy feeling settled in his stomach.

His hand grabbed hers and started walking. Reika followed him curiously, noting how tight the grip on her hand was.

"Where are we going?"

"I want to show you something."

They passed by a houses that were full of children, sleeping peacefully. The girl looked around, thinking about Mika's childhood. Is this where he grew up? Is this where he lived? This neighborhood? Questioned piled in her mind but she kept her pace up, letting herself get whisked away.

Mika stopped walking. Reika looked in front of them. It looked like any other house here; bricked, wood door, poor looking. She looked at the blonde boy, seeing the longing look on his face.

"This was where we lived," he stated, "I haven't been here since they died."

She touched his shoulder lightly making him look at her. The sympathetic look at her face said it all. He sent her a smile before turning his head towards the door.

"Would you like to go inside?" Reika asked gently, knowing how delicate the situation was. He shook his head no, his eyes still gazing at the entrance, "I can't go in there. It's too hard now that they are gone."

"Mika," she leaned near his face, staring deeply into his eyes, "This house contains happy memories that shouldn't be forgotten. Remember that this use to be your house, the place where you came home to. The place where you had a family waiting for you. If you aren't there to cherish these memories, who will?"

He let her words sink deep into his brain. Rethinking it over and over again, debating if she was right or not.

"I promise I will not leave your side the whole time," she vowed, giving his hand a reassuring squeeze. She felt like he had been blaming their deaths on himself harshly and felt it was time for him to start to heal. Returning and remembering this house and its memories was the first step. He has to learn how to forgive himself before he can save anyone.

Mika nodded, "Alright then, let's do this."

They took slow steps up the cobbled stairs, getting closer towards the door. Standing in front of it, Mika hesitated and glanced at Reika. She smiled faintly, giving him the courage to reach for the door knob.

As he was reaching, it twisted on its own.

"Hurry up! We might-"

It was a little boy. He finally realized the two presences in front of him. His eyes widened in horror as he took a step back, two vampires staring back into his frightened orbs.

"It's alright." Mika got to the boy's height, speaking in the friendliest tone he could muster. His hand reached towards him, wanting to touch him to show that he meant no harm.

A little girl older than the other lunged towards him and slapped Mika's hand away, her arms wrapping the little boy protectively. She glared at the vampires with so much hatred but there was definitely fear laced into her eyes.

"We won't hurt you. We just want to-" Reika tried to explain but was cut off.

"It's you!" The little boy said fearfully, "You are the noble's friend!"

She froze in shock, knowing that he was referring to Ferid. It seemed like not only vampires knew about this fact. The children knew as well.

"Monster," the little girl sneered.

Hurt flashed in Reika's eyes. All the tauntings, the abuse and the name calling finally got to her. She clenched her fist, anger that had been kept down for so long surfacing. It was like a demon trying to claw its way up. Monster. That word. It made her finally snap.

Her body moved at its own record. A hand wrapped around the little girl's throat and lifted her into the air. She gasped and struggled but just couldn't escape.

"Reika, stop," Mika warned cautiously.

But she didn't. The broken vampire stared at the girl in her hand, her soul shattered from the hell she had been through. It all came rushing towards her. Any person would lose it if their identity was completely stolen and replaced with something they never wanted. It was a miracle for her to even be sane at this point. But she completely lost it.

"You think I want to be like this? You think I want to be a monster? I never wanted this! Never! I never wanted to become a vampire! I never wanted that damn noble to turn me! I never wanted people to see me as the lady who was a mistress! I never wanted to be called a monster! I never wanted any of this! Why is that so hard to understand?"

The little girl whimpered as the grip on her neck tightened.

Mika acted quickly and placed a firm hand on Reika's shoulder. His voice was stern yet gentle at the same time, "Stop it, Reika. This isn't you. Don't become the thing you hate most. A monster."

Reika instantly let go of the girl, realizing what she was doing. Falling to her knees, stared at her own hands in horror, knowing that she had almost killed this girl for no reason.

The child scooted away from the sobbing vampire fearfully but froze as that exact creature looked up at her with such sorrowful eyes, crying, "I'm sorry. So very sorry..."

Mika lifted Reika into his arms, holding her tightly as she buried her face into his chest. He looked at the two kids and apologized before quickly leaving.

"Mika- I'm- Sorry. I just- I couldn't..!"

"Shh, shh, it's okay," he whispered in her ear, soothing her quietly as he walked towards the castle with a trembling girl in his arms. Not knowing where else to take her, Mika entered his room. There was a bed in the far corner and table on the other. The walls were coated in navy blue and the room looked elegant. Being created by a noble really does have its perks.

He gently placed her on the bed. She had fallen asleep in his arms, soft snores escaping her parted lips. Mika lifted the blanket and made himself comfy beside her. He swept the strands of hair away from her face, silently admiring her beauty. Placing a gentle, kiss on her forehead, he laid down and drifted off to sleep.

A knock from the door woke up Reika. Morning light shone through the window, making sure that everyone knew it was morning. She ignored it and turned around, cuddling against her pillow. It rose and fell rhythmically and smelled quite nice.

Wait, pillows don't move...

Her eyes snapped open and she froze as she stared at the person in front of her in surprise. Mika lay there, peacefully sleeping. He looked so much younger as he slept. The frown marks and worry lines were completely gone and he looked like an innocent child. But that wasn't why Reika was surprised.

Mika's arm was wrapped around her waist and hers was wrapped around his. She blushed as she realized that they had slept together last night, in the same bed.

Another knock came from the door.

"Mika! Get up!" Lacus Welt, one of the vampires, shouted from the other side.

The blonde headed vampire didn't move, still soundlessly awake. Lacus's banging and shouting became more frequent and finally, Reika had enough.

"Hey," she poked Mika on the cheek, "get up."

No response.

Sighing in annoyance, she tried again. "Wake up!" She poked his side.

Mika's eyes snapped open and he yelped. He shot up, getting tangled up in the blanket, and then falling off the bed. His hand reached out and tried to grab something as he was falling and ended up grabbing Reika's arm, dragging her down with him.

"Oof," Reika landed right on top of Mika. The two stared at eachother for a moment.

"Reika?" Mika asked in shock. His hair was tussled around, looking absolutely ridiculous and Reika was no better with her bed head.

She giggled, "Morning, sleeping beauty."

He opened his mouth to reply but was cut off by the door slamming open. Lacus walked in with an angry expression on his face.

"Mika! Get the hell up or else-"

He stopped mid way, taking in the scene in front of him. In his eyes, he saw Reika on top of Mika and they both had sex hair. He took a guess as to what happened. His lips tugged into a smirk.

"Well, well, am I interrupting something?"
