Chapter 3
"Yuu-chan~!" Reika said sweetly while wrapping her arms around his neck. A little boy the same age as her smiled but his face was blurry, she not being able to make out any features.
She pecked him on the cheek making him blush and look away. Reika giggled before lacing their hands together, walking off into the distance.
Reika woke up from her dream. She's been having flashbacks of this boy now, ever since she met Mika. It was like he made her see the happiness she experienced before she became a vampire. Being with Mika was the only thing that kept her sane in this world. It was nice to have pleasant dreams than the nightmares she was used too.
She got out of the bed, sauntering over to the door with a smile dancing on her lips. She was going to meet up with Mika outside like they usually did. Just thinking about him made her feeling warm and fuzzy inside.
"You seem happy," Ferid appeared before her, instantly souring his mood. She made a move to walk around him but he stepped in front of her, blocking the exit. She sighed in annoyance, glaring up at him through her lashes.
"Is that a crime?" She snapped, placing her hand on her hip in a bitchy manor. He just looked down at her with an amused look, like he was enjoying this.
Not wanting to ruin her good mood, she shoved him out of the way before leaving. Ferid was left alone in the room, chuckling quietly. His voice held sarcasm as he spoke to himself, "Good talk, Reika."
The girl practically ran outside, looking around, trying to locate the blonde haired vampire. He was found lying on the grass, closing his eyes, looking so peaceful. Reika walked towards him quietly before she was looming over him.
"Boo!" Mika snapped his eyes open and said, scaring her. She gasped and fell backwards, startled. He caught her before she could fall, his arm wrapping around her waist.
"Well, good morning to you too," she pouted. "You gave me quite the scare."
"Sorry," he smiled.
They finally took notice in their positions. Mika instantly unwrapped his arm around her and took a step back, scratching the back of his neck awkwardly. Reika dusted the dirt off her dress, concealing the blush on her cheeks with her hair.
"Let's take a stroll, shall we?" She questioned, holding her arm out for him to take. He nodded and hooked their arms together, starting their walk around the castle.
They talked for what seemed for hours. They talked about their past, their present, what they wanted for the future. They complained and complimented, talking about random things. People that saw them could practically see their happy atmosphere. It wasn't common to see that kind of thing here anymore.
"Mika, why do you stay with the vampires if you hate them?" She asked curiously.
He replied, "I am going to save someone from the humans. He is my family."
"What is he like?"
"He is stubborn, short tempered but deep down he is nice. We sometimes fought but at the very end, we are family. There was no way we could stay mad at each other," Mika spoke with a soft smile gracing his lips but sadness was evident in his eyes, liked he missed him.
At the back of her mind, Reika felt like someone in her life was just like that. The little boy in her dreams appeared in her mind. The dreams she was having recently revealed that they loved each other but Reika had her doubts, thinking it was nothing more than childish foolishness. She subconsciously fiddled with her bracelet, the only thing that was left of the mysterious boy in the past.
"What was his name?" She beamed, curious of Mika's family.
"Yuu, his name was Yuu."
Reika froze in her tracks. The same name was engraved on her bracelet. She dared to wonder if they were the same person. Could it be possible? Or was it just a common name? The little boy's face appeared in her mind once more. Then, she suddenly remembered his eyes color as she stared at the emerald on her bracelet. She remembered his piercing green eyes and how she used to be so fond of them. She was finally remembering him and that made her happy. Green eyes... the boy had green eyes.
"Reika? Are you okay?" Mika called her name worriedly. She snapped out of daze and looked at his worried expression. She reassured him, "I'm fine. Just tired."
"Let's call it a day," he said. She nodded in agreement, having a lot to think about. She wanted to know more about her past. She wanted to remember what she was like and how she was different compared to now. But most of all, she wanted to remember the mysterious boy named Yuu.
"I had fun today, Mika. Thanks," Reika stated. She leaned towards him and placed a chaste kiss on his cheek. His face turned pink as she pulled away. Smirking at his embarrassed expression, she turned around and walked off, Mika staring at her retreating figure.
He brought his hand to his cheek, touching where her lips had touched. He couldn't stop the smile that spread across his face, weird feelings buzzing within him. With one last glance, he walked away, recalling the day she had spent with her.
Reika giggled to herself, loving the adorable reaction she got.
"Awe, Reika, you finally made a friend?" Ferid's teasing voice made her stop. She sighed and turned around, sending him a smug look, "Are you jealous, Lord Ferid?"
He scoffed, "Don't be absurd."
The noble walked towards her, circling her while speaking in a cheerful voice, "Me and Mika go way back. We are practically buddies if you ask me."
The way he spoke of him made her blood boil. Questions appeared in her mind, wondering how Mika and Ferid had anything to do with each other. Now that she noticed, whenever Ferid was brought into their conversation, Mika always changes the subject.
"What do you mean?" She narrowed her eyes at him.
"Let me tell you a story, Reika," Ferid smirked, "Once upon a time, there was a handsome and devious vampire that planted a map that led to the outside world out of boredom, wanting to toy with the little humans. A boy fell for the trap and brought his family with him, in hopes of escaping this wretched place, But the vampire waited, ever so patiently for his prey. Once his prey finally showed up he killed every last one of them, well, almost. One of them escaped, another was turned into a vampire."
Her eyes widened at his horrid words. She knew that Ferid was horrible but this... this was just monstrous. He must have killed so many kids in his silly game, destroying their hopes and dreams. She wanted to cry but at the same time she wanted to kill the vampire in front of her. The world would be better off without him, anyways,
"And that boy who was changed into a vampire was the one and only, Mikaela Hyakuya."
In one swift motion, Reika had snatched her hidden dagger and pointed it towards Ferid's throat, glaring at him with venomous eyes. Anger was all she felt, knowing what this monster had done to Mika and his family. The vampire smiled at her reaction, knowing that his words had hit a nerve.
"Just stop talking," Reika sneered, the sound of his mere voice already sending her off the edge. He raised his hands in mock surrender, faking fear in his tone, "Oh, you're so scary. What am I ever going to do?"
She rolled her eyes before turning around, walking away from him. She figured he wasn't worth her time. He wasn't even worth thinking about. Calming herself down, she made her way towards their room, knowing that he wouldn't enter. He would only come in here at night and right now, it was mid day, giving her plenty of time to forget about him and his evil doings.
Her body made contact with the soft cushion. Sighing in relief, she closed her eyes. Her mind wandered to Mika, thinking about what Ferid had revealed to her about him. She couldn't even think of the feeling Mika had when he lost his family. He must have been heartbroken and when he was turned into a vampire, he must have felt even worse.
The little story Ferid had told was running through her mind. So the one that escaped is the one that Mika was searching for, his family: Yuu.
She glanced at the bracelet on her wrist, the emerald reminding her of what she had remembered today. She finally remembered something about the boy from the past. His eyes were green. She tried to remember anything else but couldn't. She tried so hard that a headache appeared. Rubbing her temples soothingly, she slowly drifted to sleep, dreaming about the boy she desperately wanted to remember.
Young Reika was huddled in a corner, crying to herself. She had been bullied and shoved to the ground at school by the mean girls. Their words made her cry harder.
"You are so ugly. I don't see why Yuu likes you."
"You think you're cute, huh? All the guys surround you because they feel sorry for you!"
"God, you're so annoying, Reika! Why don't you just disappear?!"
She hugged herself tighter, their words like knives piercing her heart. She wondered why they hated her. She never did anything. They never even spoke before the incident.
Footstep were heard in front of her. She didn't dare to look up, praying that it wasn't the girls. At this point, she would rather have anyone but them. She was more sensitive than she may seem and she took all these words to heart.
"Oi, why are you crying?"
She looked up and saw Yuu. Relief washed over her, grateful that it was him. He was what she needed most at this moment. Her lips trembled before she threw herself towards him, sobbing her heart out.
"What happened?" He asked, wrapping his arms around her.
She looked up at him, tears streaming down her face, "Why do they hate me? Am I that horrible?"
Yuu sighed, finally realizing what had happened. This wasn't the first time. He thought that Reika was fine but she finally snapped, finally having a mental breakdown.
Their heads collided painfully as Yuu bumped his forehead against her. She winced and looked at him in shock only to see him staring back at her angrily.
"Idiot, don't cry because of them. They aren't worth your tears. They do this because they are jealous of you. They want what you have but can't so they take out their anger on you. You are kind and gently, you are pretty and get all the attention. They are angry because you are perfect compared to them!" Yuu ranted, throwing his arms up to emphasis.
As if realizing his embarrassing confession, he blushed and looked away. Reika smiled and kissed his cheek affectionately. His cheeks became a darker shade of red.
She giggled at his expression before grinning up at him, "Thanks, Yuu-chan~!"

As Reika slept, far in the distance where the humans were, there was a boy getting stronger and stronger. Training to be part of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army's Moon Demon Company to avenge the death of his family and to find his lost angel.
He gazed at the starry night, the view making him remember the time he had spent on Moonlit Mountain with her. He had this feeling that she was still alive, waiting for him somewhere out there. He thought of the memory fondly, caressing the emerald ring he was given by her. A smile graced his lips as he spoke in determination,
"I will save you, Reika."
