Chapter 12

As the battle continued, vampires and humans alike were dying before Reika's eyes. She felt no remorse, no humanity evident on her face as blood splattered against her cheek as she took down yet another human.

Mika and Guren fought recklessly, attacking one another with incredible skills. Wanting the leader to be dead, Reika joined them. It was now Mika and Reika versus Guren. The leader could tell he was at a disadvantage. Staring into her cold blood red eyes, Guren couldn't help but to think about how she had asked him to kill her before 'something' would take over. She changed his perspective of vampires and also saved his life. He knew he owed her.

"Watch out," Ferid warned, "before they pull the rug underneath you."

Glancing down, Reika noticed almost string like material scattered around them. If the strings were pulled, they would definitely die. She was about to flee but hesitated, looking over at Mika who would be caught in their trap. Her dark side told her to leave him yet something screamed inside of her not to.

Without thinking, she yanked Mika by the arm and leaped into the air. They jumped a great distance, using their inhuman strength as a vampire. The strings were pulled and managed to graze a small cut on Reika's face. She clicked her tongue in annoyance, it not healing immediately because of the demon weapon.

"You saved me..?" Mika's statement came as a question, confused as to why she had done this. He knew of her no humanity. What had brought her to save him? His eyes widened at a thought, "Reika? Are you still in there? The old one I knew? Are you fighting inside?"

"Don't be ridiculous," she scoffed, feeling the taste of her bitter lies on the tip of her tongue, "The Reika you knew is gone. You are the only source of entertainment I have. I just didn't want to lose that in this boring world. It's quite amusing watching you fight for the girl you used to know.. And foolish."

That didn't erase the dash of hope that flickered through his eyes, not even after hearing her cruel words. He clung on to the hope that she was still there, inside, laying dormant for now.

"Damn," Guren cursed, realizing his plan to capture the vampire lady had failed. He had the intention to capture her and bring her in for questioning. He had questions he wanted to ask. Like why did she save him? Why had she changed? Who is she?

"Mika, can you be a dear and take care of the leader for me?" Reika asked, mocking a sweet voice as she batted her lashes innocently. Even before she had turned off her humanity, she knew he could never resist her.

The blonde vampire nodded, a look of determination crossing his face. He clenched his sword tightly in his hand, thorns wrapping around his arm. He strided towards a wounded Guren.

The leader glanced towards his pocket watched, sighing, "Looks like I need to take two pills."

"You can't, Lieutenant Colonel Guren!! You could die if you take them!" One of his subordinates shouted, fighting against a vampire.

He stood up shakily, using his sword to hoist himself up. Pain was all he felt, blood seeping from his wounds, "We will end up dead even if I don't take it. We will have to kill them before the pills wear off."

"Are you done talking?" Mika asked in annoyance, walking towards him, "I'm coming to finish you off."

"Well, aren't you polite?" Guren asked sarcastically then added, "But can you give us a little more time?"

"How much more?"

"It's time to take our medicine so if you could be quiet for 20 seconds I'd-"

He was cut off as Mika lunged towards him, their swords clashing against each other as Guren barely held him back, his grip shaky on his weapon from the amount of damage sustained on his body.

Mika swung his sword, Guren having to block him but was weak compared to the vampire's strength. He flew back a few meters, grunting as his back made harsh contact with debris. Blood trailed down his head, his vision blurring.

The leader cursed, noticing he was too pained to even stand. Mika towered over him, outstretching his sword, ready to attack.

Dammit it, looks like this it it, the thought crossed his mind, glaring up at the vampire in front of him.

Reika's lips tugged into a smirk, walking over to Mika and Guren. In order to completely erase the old her, she had to get rid of the nuisances that could bring her back. Especially this leader. He symbolized hope that she had once held for humanity. With him gone, her hope with him will go along with him.

Ferid looked off into the distance, spotting people approaching, "Oh? That's their back up. Mika, Reika, you need to hurry up and take care of him."

"Save Guren then retreat!"

Yūichirō Hyakuya and his comrades ran towards their leader, their demon weapon held in their hand. His eyes widened as he saw Guren, bloodied and wounded, two vampires towering over him about to end his life. He ran past his friends, shouting as he watched the blonde vampire thrust his sword.

"Guren!!"

Blood splattered, the weapon piercing their beloved leader. Yuu sneered under his breath, seeing the two vampires in front of Guren and glared in hatred. The demon in his sword itched to get out, ready to kill everything in its path.

"What the hell are you doing to Guren?!"

He lunged towards the vampire that had the nerve to attempt to kill their leader, letting out a warrior cry.

Mika turned around, muttering under his breath in irritation, "Another human.. So annoying."

But once he caught sight of the person running towards him, he completely froze in shock. His eyes widened in shock, memories resurfacing in his mind as he stared at the only family he had left. He murmured the name he had been wanting to save this whole time,

"Yuu?"

Before he could blink, a sword had pierced him, Yuu the one pushing the blade. Mika gasped in pain, feeling the demon in the sword take its effect.

Yuu stared at his opponent, recognition flashing in his eyes. He stilled for a moment, gazing at the vampire in front of him. The person he thought to be dead, now there before his very eyes. And he had just harmed his own family.

"You're..."

"Yuu-chan?"

Reika stared at the familiar boy with unruly black hair and piercing green eyes. She immediately knew who he was. A flash of blue sparked in her red eyes, the human side of her wanting nothing more than to embrace him. She glanced over his hand, her eyes widening as she saw the emerald ring she had once given him. Her heart clenched, happy that he had kept it after all these years.

Their eyes connected at that moment and the whole world seemed to melt away. Memories flashed before her eyes, remembering the love she felt for him. The same look crossed his face as he whispered her name in shock,

"Reika? Is that really you?"

She nodded, tears threatening to fall from her eyes, "Yuu.."

But then, her emotions were cut off, her heart closing once again. The red overcame the blue in her eyes, her orbs narrowing into a distasteful glare. The dark side of her knew that this boy would bring back the old her, the weak one. She knew she had to get rid of him.

"What are you doing?!" Guren shouted, "Activate the curse and kill him!"

"What?" he questioned, completely had forgotten his original mission.

"Hurry and kill him!"

"B-But.."

Reika raised her sword and swung it towards Yuu, catching him off guard. He stumbled backwards from her attack, aghast that she had even raised a weapon at him. Sending him one last bitter look, she grabbed Mika and leaped to where Ferid was, letting the wounded blonde vampire lean on her for support. Blood seeped through his clothes, it not healing thanks to the demon's sword.

"What the hell? Why didn't you kill him?!" Guren threw his fist towards the brat, angry beyond words.

"Huh? I.. uh.."

His comrades asked the same questions, confused and angry as to why he didn't kill the vampire when he had the chance. He gazed over the two vampires, torn between his relationship between the humans and those creatures. But he knew which side he would always choose... their bond inseparable.

"Mika... Reika..." he murmured, "My family is with the vampires."

Guren's eyes widened, finally knowing the name of the peculiar vampire that intrigued him.

"Hey, are you truly who I think you are?!" Yuu demanded, taking steps towards them. He glanced towards Reika's wrist, a small gasp escaping his lips as he caught sight of the bracelet he had given her. The unmistakable glow of the emerald shined back, his ring shimmering the same color. He knew at that moment he had found her once again.

Mika's eyes flickered between Yuu and Reika. He wondered how they knew each other. A painful thought crossed his mind. What if this was the boy she had promised to marry? His answer was confirmed as Yuu called out her name, love in his green eyes. He felt love and hate consume his heart, his eyes pained as he saw the look Yuu gave Reika.

Yuu's comrades watched in confusion as Yuu kept on muttering their names, stepping towards them with relieved tears falling from his eyes.

"It really is you... Reika.. Mika.."

The three gazed at each other, their eyes staring deeply into the others, speaking the words silently they desperately wanted to say aloud. It was like it was just them in the world at that moment, they were the only thing that mattered. And they were finally together once again.

"Wow, look at that cute reaction," Ferid cooed, shattering their moment, "It's been a while since I saw Yūichirō Hyakuya. What a fateful reunion. But, how does he know you, Reika?"

The girl sneered, "He's just a nuisance from my past."

Yuu stared at her in surprise, hurt crossing his face from her harsh words. He took notice in her change of eye color, the cruel red orbs glaring at him. He also noticed how she had changed, almost like she was a different person. She was like the opposite of the girl he use to know. If it wasn't for the emerald bracelet, he wouldn't have believed it was her.

"Yuu, Ferid did something to her! She isn't really like this," Mika said, seeing the pain written on his face. Upon hearing this, Guren took a moment to let the information sink it. It made sense now... For some reason, he wanted to save her, like she did to him.

"You..!" Yuu gasped, seeing the familiar noble that had murdered his family and has now taken someone that was precious to him. He snarled, narrowing his eyes, raising his sword, "What the hell did you do to her?"

"I just showed her who she really was," the noble shrugged, a smirk playing on his lips. But then he asked, "So what now? Yu's probably being used by the humans."

"We will save him, of course," Mika said, glancing over towards Reika.

"From the hands of the greedy humans?"

"Yes."

"But he's human too," Reika pointed out. Ferid agreed with her, "Humans can never be our friends."

"Oh, how about turning him into one of us?" the girl smiled wickedly, Mika's eyes widening in shock at her thoughts.

Ferid nodded, "I can turn him into a vamp-"

He was cut off as Mika grabbed his by the neck, anger blazing in him like a wildfire. He growled, "I'll kill you if you lay a hand on him."

"But it wasn't my idea," Ferid said, gesturing towards the girl beside him. She was the one who had thought of it. He couldn't help but to feel proud of his creation, loving how evil she is. It almost reminded him of himself.

"It's not her fault. You did this to her," Mika's grip on the noble's throat tightened, "This is your fault."

"Fine, I was just joking anyways. It's not like you to get fired up," Ferid grinned in amusement, Mika reluctantly letting go of him.

Crowley Eusford appeared, along with two other female nobles. The human soldiers' hopes of winning were crushed, knowing they couldn't handle four powerful vampire. They had only one option now.

"Everyone! Prepare to retreat!" Guren shouted.

"Huh?" Yuu panicked, "W-Wait a minute! My family is over there! So...so.. We can't retreat!"

"Do you want everyone to die?" the leader asked harshly, making the boy feel torn between his duties and his own family. But he had to agree with them. He had no choice but to. He turned around and ran with his comrades, trying to escape.

"Retreat! Keep your formation and retreat to the second defense line!!"

"Take the extermination unit alive. Operation: Livestock," Ferid ordered, his eyes shining in entertainment.

Reika gripped her sword, running at an inhuman speed towards Yuu's group. She knew that she had to get rid of him in order to erase the side of her she loathed; the compassionate her. Something within her screamed for her not to, making a painful migraine strike her mind. She sighed in annoyance, pushing it away. She knew what she had to do. In order for the darkness to stay, it had to annihilate the light in her. With that in mind, she leaped in the air, heading straight for Yūichirō Hyakuya.
