Chapter 1
There was a legend that said that if you climb up the Moonlit Mountains at exactly midnight then placed your hand on this special stone with your lover, you will experience nothing but happiness in the future.
"Yuu-chan, hurry up or else we won't make it before midnight!" The little girl exclaimed as she waited impatiently.
He hoisted himself onto the steep mountain, his eyes brightening as he watched her pout adorably. They laced their had together before making their way towards the legendary stone. Incoherent marking were etched into the stone and roses blossomed around it.
"We finally made it," the girl sighed in relief, glancing over at Yuu with a longing look in her eyes. She recalled the memory of how she had met him. It was a starry night like the one right now, a cold chilly breeze past through the children's park. She was a child at the time, crying endlessly, shattering the silence. She had just run away from home but didn't have anywhere to go.
That is when Yuu appeared. He knocked some sense into her. Literally. He literally slapped her, calling her selfish and gave her an earful on how lucky she truly was to have a family. That is when Yuu revealed his darkest secrets to her, about how his parents treated him and how other people thought of him. She admired how strong he was and he admired how selfless she was. They both liked each other in a way.
But they soon formed a bond that was remarkable. They were inseparable in the few weeks they had met each other. Friendly feelings slowly turned into something even more but they had not realized since they were merely kids.
Now we are in the present. With mixed feelings for each other, they stared at the stone, hoping that the legend would come true.
"This is our last day together," she said softly, "Before I have to move away."
Yuu scowled and clenched his fist, gazing down at the dirt path underneath them. He didn't want her to go. His only wish was that she could stay. He knew nothing of family. He knew nothing of friends. He knew nothing of love before this girl proved to him how beautiful the world can be. Her kind and caring persona revealed that not all humans are cruel and wicked. He began to see the earth differently, thanks to her.
But now she had to leave because her parents found a job opportunity overseas. Who knew when they would see each other? If they would see each other again that is.
"Yuu-chan," the way she had said his name made him look up. His eyes widened as he noticed tears streaming down her cheeks, "Don't forget me, okay?"
Not being able to hold it in anymore, his strong front crumpled as he let a lone tear fall. He tried so hard to seem unfazed for her sake and promised himself he would cry but he just couldn't hold it in anymore. He fell to his knees and buried his face into her stomach, sobbing his broken heart. He knew that he didn't consider her a friend anymore but was to scared of rejection to admit it. If only he knew that she felt the same way.
"Let's run away!" He cried desperately, "We could run away and never come back!"
The girl wrapped her arms around him and smiled, "You know I cannot do that. I have a little brother to look after. I can't just abandon him."
"Promise me something, Yuu-chan," she whispered sweetly into his ear, "Once we reunite, let's get married, okay?"
He pulled away and stared at her in shock, the words soaking into his brain ever so slowly. He hoped that he had heard her right because he wanted the same thing. When you're a kid, all you dream about is having a happy future. They wanted everything to play out perfectly since they were, after all, kids.
Yuu brought his hand up to her cheek and tenderly wiped the tears away with a smile on his face, "I promise."
He grabbed something from his pocket before handing it to her. It was a jewelry box, no doubt expensive, telling from the fancy brand name on it. She looked at him in surprise, "What's this?"
His cheeks turned pink, "Just open it."
She listened to him. Her eyes widened as she gazed at the most at the most beautiful thing she had ever seen. It was a bracelet. A silver chain would wrap itself around her wrist,Iiy's lustrous properties dazzling in the moonlight. An unblemished emerald stone was there, shining proudly in the lucid glow. 'Yuu' was engraved in the gem. The color of the stone reminded her of Yuu's piercing green eyes that would captivate anyone. It was simply beautiful.
He chuckled nervously, "It took me a long time to save up for that. Do you like it?"
She snapped out of daze and threw her arms around him, "Like it? I love it!"
The girl pulled away so Yuu could wrap the bracelet around her wrist. The small click was heard was heard as he clasped the silver chain together.
"I have something for you as well."
A ring was soon on Yuu's finger. The same green emerald was there. It as like green was their color, the color of their love. It was simple yet held so much meaning. It was perfect.
"When I return, you better have a wedding ring ready for me," she said teasingly, giggling at his embarrassed expression.
He murmured softly to her, "Thank you."
She nodded before taking her his hand with hers. Her expression was serious as she looked up at him. "I want you to be strong, Yuu-chan. Don't listen to your parents, they just don't understand how amazing you really are. When you feel sad or lonely and feel like crying, just know that we will see each other again. That should bring a smile to your face. I love you, Yuu-chan."
Her straightforward words completely caught him off guard. Her confession was even more shocking. They knew that they both had feelings for each other but neither had openly said it until now. But Yuu felt happy, finally knowing that his feelings would be returned.
Yuu smiled before placing their hands on the stone that held the legend of the lovers happiness. It was finally midnight. Eternal happiness was what was promised if lovers touched this stone. They had finally done it. Even if it was just a feeble legend, they wanted to believe in it so very much.
With that last few parting words, the two would never see each other for a very long time.
"I love you too, Reika."

Many years later, a mysterious virus killed every infected person over the age thirteen. Like that wasn't hell enough, vampires emerged from the shadows and pursued to enslave humankind by gathering or killing off the children, treating them like mere livestock.
Reika ran home like her life depended on it, dropping her school backpack on the way. She became aware of the virus at school when all the teachers and staff members collapsed to the ground. At home, her parents and her brother, Aiko was present. She worried that the same things had happened to them or worse, vampires had killed them off.
She slammed the door open and ran inside. Her brother's hysteric cries were heard. She froze midway as she stared at the scene in front of her in horror. There her parents lay, laying lifeless on the floor. Aiko was cuddled against their mother, sobbing his poor heart out. He had witnessed their deaths personally, scarring himself for life.
"R-Reika?" Aiko whimpered, tears escaping his eyes endlessly.
Snapping out of shock, she rushed to his side and lifted him up into her small arms. She murmured sweetly into his ear while cradling him like a baby, "Shh, it's okay. I'm here now."
The sound of the door banging on the wall alerted the two that there was an intruder in the house. A vampire with piercing red eyes and extracted fangs stalked towards his knew found prey. His long silver hair and fancy clothing symbolized he was a noble.
Ferid smirked as he watched the girl stand in front of her brother protectively, narrowing her eyes cautiously at him. Amusement sparked in the vampire's eyes as he noticed that there was no fear evident on the girl but anger. All humans would quiver in fear from him yet this little girl stayed strong standing her ground.
"Ooh, look what we have here. Hello, livestock," he teasingly said, wanting to play with this human girl longer.
"You, my darling, smell especially delicious," he gestured towards her, "And are incredibly beautiful for a human."
"I wish I could say the same about you," she sneered, glaring at him furiously. She didn't blush or seem nervous like Ferid thought she would but he was incredibly wrong. All she did was insult him but he didn't seem fazed, he just became more and more interested in her. Then, a sinister plan formed in his mind.
He appeared in front of her before she could react and grabbed her by the arm, shoving her to the side. She slammed against the wall harshly making her wince quietly. His strength was so great that he had broken her arm. Reika held her arm in pain, gritting her teeth angrily.
"No! Stop, please!"
The sound of Aiko's scream made her snap her head in his direction. Her eyes widened as she witnessed Ferid sucking the life out of her little brother. His fangs were buried into Aiko's neck as the little boy struggled but to no avail.
Ferid dropped Aiko's body to the floor, it's lifeless eyes staring back into Reika's. She threw herself towards his body and desperately tried to find any signs that he was alive. But there was pulse, he was already dead. A tear left her eye, regret and despair along with it.
"He wasn't that tasty to be honest. I wonder what you will taste like," the vampire smiled while walking towards her, fangs extracted. The smell of her blood was irresistible, it was like nothing he had ever experienced. He knew that she was a special human girl and thought to himself that killing her would be a waste. Why not keep her for himself and have her ravishing blood for eternity? Yes, vampires are such greedy creatures.
Unforgivable rage flared in Reika like a wildfire. She reached into her boot secretly, grasping the dagger angrily. When it came to aiming at something, she had never missed. Her impeccable vision gave her an advantage.
Once Ferid was close enough, she leaped into the air and hurled the dagger towards him, aiming for his heart. Using his inhuman pace, he stepped to the side to dodge it but the weapon had managed to graze his cheek, a small slice wound with blood seeping out of it was visible on his face. He brought his hand to his cut and swiped his finger across it, dirtying his white gloves with his blood.
He stared at it in surprise. How had she manage to hurt him when he was ten times stronger than her? It has never happened before and for the first time, this vampire noble had underestimated a human. He felt intrigued by this feisty human girl and thought she would be fun to keep, like a favorite toy. Smiling, he licked his finger, tasting his own blood. Reika watched in disgust.
Ferid's lips curved into a amused smile, "Not bad for livestock."
"But not good enough!" He flashed in front of her with piercing red eyes. His hand wrapped around her throat and lifted her off her feet. She gasped and clawed at his hand, desperately trying to get him to let go but he was just too strong.
"You've captured my interest," he said simply, "You hate vampires, don't you?"
"More than anything," she managed to say, glaring up at him with our hatred. Ferid chuckled and nodded to himself, proud that he had chosen such a worthy human to be his pet. She was strong and bold. All the humans he had encountered were all fearful of his beast form but this girl wasn't, if anything she was rebellious as she fought back even though she knew he was a vampire.
"Well then, what would you do if you became the thing you hated most?"
With that, he knocked her unconscious before whisking her away to where her worst nightmare would come true.
