CHAPTER 21 JALKUKDI JANNET
He winked stating a name she hadn't heard before. She murmured to herself "Now this Jannet! God only knows how many more girls there are yet to be mentioned."
Rolling her eyes she left the cabin leaving Agastya laughing like mad. He was esthetic just with the time spent with her and deliberately did things to irritate her.
"Today's aloo paratha tasted different. Ahh...This girl! Baby, you've literally become an angry bird! Don't you trust your Gusty? This Agastya from you feels so distant, professional and chiiii. When will I hear you calling me Gusty? I know for you, hurt is mightier than the happiness at this point. But nevermind; your Gusty will do all that it takes to make you smile"
He soon got busy in getting acquainted with the details and data of the current projects sent by Janhavi. On the other hand, Janhavi couldn't concentrate on the work. It was Agastya she thought about the whole time. She was experiencing mixed emotions where she was happy, sad, excited and nervous to see Agastya being a part of the same organization; that meant being with him almost everyday. How was she going to keep herself away from the one she had loved so dearly? Although with her mind was boggled with these thoughts, she kept on smiling on and off rubbing her wrist that he had held. Her eyes gave way to those unushered tears thinking of all that she had been through in these seven years and his touch had strum the chords of her heart, yet again. "It felt umm...different." Her heart sang to its glory but the mind shushed recapitulating the past incidences.
Hiding her face she cried a little, not understanding what all had been happening around her and why was Agastya behaving normally as if nothing had happened? She spoke to herself, aloud.
"Why are you doing all this? What do you want now, Agastya?"
"Attention" She heard a voice that made her shiver. As she looked at the door, she found Agastya smiling at her holding the handle. She immediately tidied herself wiping her tears.
"You?" She asked not looking at him.
"3 baar door knock kiya. You didn't respond so I thought to check. Umm! Ayesha tried calling you on your extension but it said busy. Come on! We have a meeting!"
Janhavi checked her fixed line and found the receiver displaced. She apologized "Umm.. Sorry, guess by mistake. Umm.. let me call Kabir, you please carry on. We'll be there!"
Agastya was miffed listening to that name again as he spoke sternly "You accompany me. Ayesha shall inform your Kabir. Bachha nahi hai wo, aa jayega. Let's go!"
She had to give in as she knew he was irritated. Before leaving the cabin she just said in a low voice looking at him "Your Kabir? Excuse me, FYI Kabir isn't mine. Okay. He is just a colleague and a nice guy"
Agastya smirked but fumed too listening to other guy's praises "Don't you tell me, how nice he is, awryt? Pahle bhi dekh chuka hoon nice guys ko tumhare.. Bloody cheepad."
She didn't say anything but was offended over his remarks. She silently kept up with him to the meeting room. But Agastya felt he had unnecessarily bashed Janhavi out of his insecurity. He softly held just her index finger while walking and apologized "I am sorry!". She just looked at him but those lips had a slight curve not because he had apologized but for the way he had held her finger softly.
She remembered how he would exactly hold her index finger while walking and say "Sorry Jaanu". Her heart said "Looks like nothing has changed but still nothing feels like it used to feel". The entire team had come, accept Kabir.
Soon he too came as a team member said "Lo kabir aa gaya. Kaha rah gaya tha?"
"Sorry guys, arre Janhavi, tum yaha kab aayi? I had been to your cabin thinking you would be there. And hence, I got a little late to reach here."
Had it been a regular day, Janhavi would have smiled but Agastya was sitting next to her and looked at her with disappointment. He spoke soon before Janhavi could say anything.
"Janhavi accompanied me to this meeting. Any issues guys? Should we start?" And he drove the meeting professionally, discussing and engaging every team member asking for inputs and suggestions.
"You know, we'll have to work really hard to tap the Asia market as we lag behind. Our competitors are ahead of us. Lekin hum unko still piche chhod sakte hain if we work as a team. Jannet will help us"
Before anyone could ask, it was the second time, Janhavi had heard that name and she too was annoyed now, rather felt jealous as she looked at him in the eye asking him sternly "Who is this Jannet? If I may know?"
Agastya looked at her smirking a little finding her voice laced with irritation, sarcasm and he probably read jealousy too. He was waiting for this reaction and finally he got that. However, Janhavi corrected herself soon, "I mean? Do we know who is she? Never heard."
The team too asked in unison as Agastya said "Arre Jannet yaar, JALKUKDI JANNET."
Everyone looked at him confused not understanding a thing and the connection of this name with the business. He smiled as he explained further.
"So, it goes like once there were two cats, Jannet and Barret. Jannet was super jealous of Barret and would always try tricks on her. When they were given a bowl of milk, Jannet always thought that Barret's bowl had more than she had. So either she would pounce and spill or shoo her away and licked from her bowl wiping it clean leaving her own milk bowl. Soon Barret looked fluffy but Jannet wasn't. Then Barret's bowl had more milk, and Jannet thought hers had more, so she had hers leaving Barret to have from her own. And again Barret grew fluffier while Jannet didn't. Basically Jannet was jalkukdi aur jalan me usne khud hi ka nuksaan kiya. JKo Jannet. So we can use this even in business. Gotcha?"
The team laughed at this unique story and knowing how it could be applied in business to distract the competition. They even laughed and repeated "Ha ha ha. J Ko Jannet. Nice name."
Agastya and Janhavi used this word in their childhood. Janhavi had a slight smile as Agastya said sparing a look at her
"Ha ha yeah! Me and my childhood bestest friend used this work to describe jealous. Lovely days. Come on! back to work guys."
The meeting had dispersed and the day had come to a fruitful end. They had packed up and Agastya was just packing his laptop when he saw Janhavi from his window, standing down and hugging a guy as he smiled at her. It was Arjun, he recognized him as the same guy from Aarna's live and who had come some days back to his house to meet Janhavi on the sangeet night.
Seeing her hug him so dearly, pinched his heart. She didn't even say bye to him while leaving for the day and now hugged a guy. His head spun and the curiosity was on rise to find out who was he and what relationship did he share with his Jaanu? They definitely looked so comfortable. She was smiling that day and even today with him.
Agastya was emotionally tired as he left the office. Reaching home to smiling dadi and dadu waiting for him in the living room, he hugged dadi. Naina had come early while Aarav was out for a meeting with a director regarding a new project. Naina smiled at him as she gave him a glass of chilled water
"Awww my baby! Tired beta? Kaisa raha din? How's the office?" She asked with an endearing smile.
Agastya casually informed about hai day at work and soon got away to get showered. As the cold warm water hit his body, he remembered his day at length and Janhavi's face provided the warmth he needed to shoo away his emotional tiredness. But the next minute he remembered how she had hugged a guy and the water felt colder. He had changed into his comfortable shorts and jersey, when Naina entered his room
"Chocolate shake or cold coffee?" She asked him. He smiled just hugging her "your huggy mumma. Don't feel like having anything as yet. Daddy kab tak aayenge?"
Over their little conversation, Aarav too had reached and found the mother son duo in the bedroom. The scene was as emotional as it used to be years back. Agastya had hugged Naina keeping his leg over her while she was messaging her head amd running her fingers through his hair. Aarav had a lingering smile as he thought
"Sab waisa hi hai. Kuch bhi nahi badla. Such a blessed feeling it is. Thank you mata rani"
And he too dashed on the bed hugging Naina from another side as he kissed her cheeks and softly slapped Agastya's hand
"Meri biwi par se hath hata. She is mine" he said making Agastya and Naina chuckle. Soon it was time for their dinner. It was a table full of good food, hearts full of happiness and loads of laughter. Once done, Naina made coffee and she and Aarav walked to Agastya's room finding him at his balcony looking up at the stars.
Naina looked at Aarav and he gestured her with a smile. Aarav patted Agastya's back "so champ! How was the day being a boss? How does it feel?"
He smiled as Aarav and Naina took seats sipping their coffee "It was great daddy. Work shall pick up soon. Had a team meeting today and just general introductions and project reviews"
Gauging his expressions Naina asked
"Agastya! Jaanu would have been surprised naa finding you as her colleague? Like you know, from school to work, not everyone gets a chance to be together"
Agastya just smiled and found Naina and Aarav looking at him as he couldn't dodge them "Hmm! I hope she was surprized". He answered to the point softly looking at his coffee mug.
Aarav thought to enquire in general, "All okay champ?"
This time Agastya dodged "Hmm! Not exactly but kind of"
Aarav held him by his shoulder smiling at him. Naina and Aarav both didn't poke him further and left the discussion just with smiles leaving Agastya to rest for the night.
He was in Janhavi's thoughts recapturing their childhood days, all the snippets and his entire day. While Janhavi was too confused on how to react. She doubted if she was even a friend to Agastya? As he had kept such a big thing a secret since a year.
But smiled with tears remembering how he made her eat aaloo paratha and even got upset listening to Kabir's name from her. She knew Agastya had been this kind of possesive in childhood. He had never liked any other boy to even ask Janhavi to be his best friend.
Suddenly she remembered when she was talking to herself in her cabin and asked "What do you want Agastya?" And Agastya had answered "attention". This particular snippet accelerated her heartbeats.
"Why are you doing all this Agastya? What's in your mind? Chahte kya ho tum akhir?"
Aarav and Naina were talking about Agastya when Aarav got a call from Siddhant informing about planning for Siya's 18th birthday. He and Sanaya were planning for a weekend away as get together along with Siya's birthday bash for family and friends at their Lonavala farm Villa.
