CHAPTER 14 EMOTIONS AND DILEMMA

Agastya went berserk and had watched Aarna's last shared story on repeat. Janhavi was walking along the beach splashing water on Aarna and suddenly she screamed as a splash of water hit her face. She giggled and ran after the one who had done this prank as she screamed "Wait dude! now no one can spare you" as she too splashed some water and pushed a little. Now it was her turn to run but was caught and twirled as she was laughing hysterically. It was Arjun who had joined Janhavi for a coffee after sunset.

Janhavi introduced Aarna with Arjun and his energy was infectious. Aarna, being a teenager now was charmed by him, his talks and his looks. Arjun's personality was quite dashing. The sun had set and all three of them enjoyed their coffee and refreshments at a nearby famous cafe. Agastya was now in double minds to find out how can someone be that friendly with Jaanu, rather his Jaanu. He paced his room.

"What the.... hai kaun ye akhir itna chipak raha tha jo Jaanu se? Kahin uska boyfriend to nahi? Ohhh fuck why did I not think this in all these years. There could be someone whom she might be seeing or may be in love with. Love? Love kaise kar sakti hain wo? She is my best friend, my Jaanu! Fuck dude, you yourself had messed up. But how do I ask her? Aisa lagega zyada personal life me intrude kar raha hoon. Well, I have seen this guy few more times quite friendly with Jaanu. What if she really has a boy friend. Puchna chahiye kya? I want to just go and ask her face to face. Agastya Sehgal! if it is true, you are doomed dude"

He was in double minds whether to ask or not but he did not. Once he even thought to ask Aarna but she was too young to be involved in it. Why would Janhavi tell Aarna even if it was true? Being the kind of guy Agastya was, he let it to himself. However now his heart and mind had been fogged by a certain fear and curiosity to know, to know it all. However, he couldn't waste time as his final project was already taking a toll.

The weeks passed by, his project was submitted and the results were out. As expected he had topped this time as well and Kshitij took third position. It still was huge as the competition was very tough. Agastya had always been a scholar and always fetched great results. Everyone in the family was happy. The Sehgals had been to attend his graduation ceremony once again where he was awarded "Business student of the year".

Aarav was too emotional seeing his son grown into to handsome young man having achieved what he always wanted to. How could a father be not emotional at such a happy day! They hosted his batchmates and his friends, Amanda, David and Riddhi too who were in town. Kshitij had made his parents meet Riddhi. They were happy for their son and his girlfriend.

In all this happiness, the one who had to be there was not there again, Agastya's Janhavi, his Jaanu who always used to be the biggest cheerleader and her claps were the loudest with the broadest smile among the crowd. He missed her dearly and pinged her with his grad ceremony pictures and video taken a few hours back.

"Hey hey! I did it my sweetest heart. Super happy and missing you. What's up with you? Umm busy with friends?" He deliberately asked her if she was busy.

He got a text reply in a few minutes "Congratulations and celebrations... Finally!! What a happy news. Very happy for you. Not busy. Well, jo chahiye tha wo mil hi gaya tumhe"

Agastya smiled texting her back "Abhi kahan? Pata nahi jo chahiye hai wo mera hai bhi yaa nahi"

"Arre.. aise kaise? You're The Agastya Sehgal! As usual, you have again excelled academically, don't worry you'll land up with your dream job." Janhavi replied him.

He murmured to himself "Damn! She's playing dumb!"

"Who's talking about the job?" he answered back.

"Then? What else?" she asked making her sound like perplexed.

He patted his forehead "Don't you know what, sweetest heart?"

Her heart paced but she calmed herself, "How would I know? You had started to keep things to yourself"

"Are you angry with me, Jaanu?" He asked and she felt bad, she wanted to hug him and cry. She was just deeply hurt; rather wounded and confused with his confusing behavior.

"No. I am not. I guess I don't even have a right to be angry." she replied the bitter truth that not just pinched Agastya but her own self too.

Agastya wanted to hug her in that moment to have hurt her to this extent, "Why? Tum kuch nahi ho meri? Does being apart in distance takes away the rights of friendship too?"

"Me saying this might feel bad but if the friendship had given any rights, I would have the right to know about you going to Boston. I wouldn't have found it out so casually with the rest. So, I understood I did not have the right to be angry anymore."

"And if I say, you have the same right that you had since day one?", he threw a bouncer.

"You know Agastya sometimes our actions speak louder than words. Words change with people and time. So I guess its wiser to move on based on what one sees and feels. It substantially cuts down on the feeling of hurt." She was straight forward and conveyed how hurt she had been for all these years.

Agastya felt ashamed of himself and a fear gripped his mind and heart as he asked her cautiously, "So has my Jaanu moved on? Alone? I mean, without her Gusty?"

"I wish you all the luck and love Agastya. Do well in life. I know you will. I'm very happy for your superlative achievements. May you get all that your heart desires. Take care"

Janhavi skipped answering him and reading "my Jaanu" from Agastya had made her too emotional. On the other hand finding Janhavi skip his question, his heart panicked as he murmured

"Is it too late to desire being with you? Am I too late? Have you moved on in life without your Gusty?"

While he was looking into zilch in his thoughts, he found Aarav alone with his scotch at the corner of the pub they had booked for party. Agastya approached him,

"Daddy...all ok?" he asked gauging him in his thoughts.

"Yes champ! Bas tu kab itna bada ho gaya pata hi nahi chala. I still remember the tiny you I had held and knew God has not sent me for you rather a son for his dad. I'm so thankful to have lived to see you grow up this big and gentle" an emotional Aarav in his 50s, with a tint of grey in his hair yet as suave and handsome hugged his son feeling emotional.

Agastya hugged him the tightest as he too got tearful. He had seldom seen his daddy's emotional side. If he could remember he was emotional on his wedding day and on Aarna's birth when he had held her for the first time. Agastya smiled in between his tears as he whispered softly

"Thank you daddy for being my friend, my guide, my father and mother for few years until mumma came into our lives. Thank you would be so petty for what you have done for me. Had you not been there I don't even know where would I have been. I am because you are. I pray every single day that you live healthy and happy to see me getting old and yourself older. We'll have a blast even then. You will still be my daddy and I, your champ!"

Aarav smiled holding his face in his hands smiling at him as Agastya wiped his wet eyes and cheered his scotch with Aarav.

"Bahot aage badh. May you get every single thing your heart desires" Aarav said with a smile and Agastya generally still carefully asked him back

"Will I really get what all my heart desires daddy?"

"Ofcourse champ! Poori shiddat se chahega to universe lends a helping hand weaving a magical path to find what the heart had been yearning for. Bas umeed nahi chhodhna. Like I wanted to get your mumma back, I did find her one day magically standing infront of me" Aarav just popped the thought bubble with a real life example that filled Agastya with certain hope.

Just then finding daddy-son duo Naina too came and she knew they both were emotional. She just hugged both of them together spreading her arms wide open and kissed both their biceps "My boys! I love you both babies. Gosh how did I get so lucky to get to call such handsome men mine"

Just then Aarna came and adjusted in the group "Oh you guys have forgotten me? Awww I'm sad now... nobody loves me!"

She made faces deliberately and all three of then squeezed her in a group hug "Nautanki kahi ki. Sara din drama chalu rehta hai iska". Naina complained with love planting a forceful kiss on her cheeks "Ewwww mumma... only my boyfriend will get to kiss me forcefully"

Aarav's fatherly instincts were in action "What? Do you have a boyfriend? Since when and who is he? Have I met him? Mumma knows?"

"Hush... daddyyyy! I said WILL GET TO. I don't have a boyfriend yet. Chill please. But kabhi to hoga naa. If and when scenario guys!! Daddy I want to try wine"

Aarav immediately would have said a no but Naina softly held his hand to calm him "Bhaiya! Go make your little sister try red wine sangria. Buy only one Aarna. I won't allow more...ok? and be with bhaiya"

Agastya understood the hint and took her away to make her taste. Aarav looked at Naina as she encircled her hands around his neck and smiled.
"Trust me shona...will you? See mana main bhi kar sakti thi but you see this teenage is very sensitive and experimental. We have to be their friends and must know where to use no and where to allow them a little freedom that is under surveillance. Bahot tender age hai ye. Hum yaha naa kahenge what if she goes out and have it. Atleast she will try infront of us. We would know. Her bhaiya is there he will handle and make her understand. Aur please Aarna ko le ke har baat pe panic karna band karenge aap? You're a friend to her. Be like that!! They are our kids but kab kaha kitni aazadi deni hai utna hi tackle karna hai baby. aachha suniye I'm missing some smoochy and mushy mushy yaa. Bachhe bade ho gaye to romance khatam, aise thode hi hota hai shona... hehehehe"

Aarav agreed to his wife and smiled kissing her briefly as he winked "Awww my baby is missing me and wee wee. Tonight's gonna be a mushy mushy night my pretty pretty mamma. Thank you jaan for being there for me and our kids always. I love you baby"

While Aarna was enjoying her first drink with her bhaiya, Amanda, Kay bhaiya, Dave (that she had shortened for David) and Riddhi di, Agastya was into his thoughts after seeing his daddy emotional a while ago. He remembered how he was made aware of the biggest truth of his life.
