|Chapter-13| The gambit and proposal
"Well, relations matter. Even the absolutely crazy ones, "
Omkara Oberoi was currently fuming in anger. He couldn't quite figure out what's really wrong with his parents? He knew his father was hopeless from his teen days. He wasn't to be relied on at all.
But what's wrong with his mother? Couldn't his mother understand Ritisha? Why was his mother forcing the little girl? What had that little girl done wrong anyway? She is just 24. Isn't it too early for her marriage? But then he remembers his own marriage and concluded even his mother couldn't be relied on.
Ritisha is their little Rudy's daughter. Their baby girl. The last and most treasured possession of Rudy and Bhavya left with them. How can they marry her to just anyone?
She was raised by all of them. She is their brother's daughter. Shivaaye and he were more parents to Rudy then Mr. and Mrs. Oberoi. They practically raised both of them. So, shouldn't they get a say in this matter? They should get an equal say in her marriage and most of all shouldn't the girl in question get a choice or say.
Her choice should matter the most.
But do they care??
Nops, not at all. Never did. Never will.
He wants to shout at his father and give him a piece of his mind. But he knows it'll all be for nothing. For his father won't ever pay any heed to his words.
He isn't a businessman and so, he is worthless in his father's eyes.
Always have been.
And a worthless person's views never matter to his father. A worthless person is just nothing for his father. His father won't even care a little if he drops dead at this moment.
But hearing Agastya, a cricketer, and Viaan's friend. Hope suddenly rose in Omkara's heart like a bright inferno. His eyes silently searched Viaan around him. Spotting Viaan, he gestured Viaan to come towards him while continuing to listen to his daughter.
While listening to his daughter complain about Agastya's image and the way she uttered Viaan and Savvy's name like they were the worse sort of people around. Omkara couldn't help but snort.
The fours image was surely exaggerated.
In the last few days spent with them and by the chance, he got to know them. He had realized a few things about them. First, they're not bad. They're actually the total opposite of bad.
Second, they're crazy. Totally crazy. He is a hundred percent sure of that fact.
But they aren't bad.
But how will he explain all this to his daughter? How will he explain to her about these crazily sweet people without giving away his little Shivu's secret?
So, he just listens to her and doesn't contradict her view on Viaan and Savvy. For he loves Omisha but he loves Shivanya too. And he won't ever betray one daughter to help the other. Both are the same to him and he had promised Shivanya, no one from the Oberoi family will know he had met her. He won't let her down.
Shivanya wants to stay away from the Oberoi's. She wants to live in anonymousness then she'll. She'll live as she wants too. She'll live without the Oberoi family politics in her life and He won't break her trust, ever.
Shivanya's secret will be safe with him like always.
And he'll deal with the family problem on his own. He'll think of a way to save Ritisha.
"Yes, Bapi, you called" He heard Viaan approach him looking at him a little concerned— sharing a look with savvy Savvy, who was looming behind Viaan looking uncertain and a little scared of something.
Omkara looked at the anxious boys and gestured first toward his call. Making them understand as to why he wasn't speaking and then he asked Viaan to pass him his phone.
Viaan nodded in understanding and handed Savvy's unlocked phone to him without any further question. Omkara took the phone looking at Savvy who looked like he wanted to protest vehemently but was keeping all that inside for now.
Shaking his head at the eccentric kid. Omkara typed his question while continuing to listen to his daughter's hysterical words. And then showed the screen with the question to both of them.
"What kind of guy is Agastya Raina?"
Reading the question both of them frowned a little but answered nonetheless.
"He is sweet and a very good guy, Bapi!" Viaan answered looking a little confused. But he was speaking about Agastya in a totally fond manner
"Absolutely Crazy!!!" Savvy snorted in the background.
"But Why are you asking about Agastya??" Viaan asked Omkara ignoring his insane bestie.
Omkara was about to answer Viaan's question when Aaina joined them. Looking concerned and curious about what was going there.
"Bapi! Everything alright? You're looking quite tensed..." Aaina asked Omkara worried, throwing accusing glares at Viaan and Savvy.
Omkara couldn't fathom how Aaina always guessed his mood so fast? How did she always know when he was troubled or angry? How could she guess his emotions perfectly, always? Is she really an empath? He knows if he ask Aaina about this—she'll just smile mystically and say: "I just know, Bapi"
But right now, he didn't know whether he should tell Aaina about this or not?
In the end, he decided to tell her everything. After all, she deserves to know this. So, he typed the truth as shortly as possible in Savvy's phone and handed it to Aaina.
"Ritisha forced to marry Agastya Raina by the Oberoi elders."
Reading the message, the three of them screamed the same word in different languages and different tones at the same time.
"What!!!!!!!!" The same word was yelled in three totally different tones and pitch around him.
He could just nod in confirmation at what he assumed was their question and not disbelief. He looked flabbergasted as the three of them looked ready to curse someone to infinity. Aaina muttered something to herself and he could just watch in pure disbelief as Viaan fetched out his phone in lightning-fast speed and dialed what he assumed was Agastya's number.
He didn't know whether to laugh or shake his head watching their antics. They looked like the most impatient bunch on the whole planet at that moment. But he was really highly amused when Aaina snatched the phone away from Viaan and put it on the speaker.
He could hear the phone ring. Some English song was the caller tune. He hadn't ever heard this song but it sounded good.
After several rings, the phone was picked up and before Viaan could say anything. A voice from the receiver end screamed enthusiastically: Yo bossman!!!! How did you remember this poor being on this fine evening?
Omkara was sure if the phone was placed anywhere near Viaan's ear his ear would have been ringing very badly, right now. Was this Agastya?
He thought confused but nothing the confused look etched on Viaan, Savvy, and Aaina's face. He decided maybe not. He watched as they looked at each other and stated totally unamused "Harvik!!!"
"The one and only one Bhabi ma, Savvy bro and bossman"
The three ignored this new guy. Whoever this Harvik personality is, he is absolutely a Nautanki. Omkara doesn't follow cricket much. So, he doesn't know who are all the members of the team.
"Where is Agastya and where the hell are both of you?" Viaan asked Harvik ignoring his self-praise.
"I'm so hurt bossman! You don't want to talk to me, this is the saddest day of my life. Oh, Lord!! What will I do now? And didn't you know we are in Andaman Island, relaxing. But I'm still so hurt. You don't want to talk to me." Harvik whined very pitifully from the other end of the call.
And Om couldn't help but think—how much of a nautanki this being was? But he couldn't say that thought out loud now could he? But Aaina saved them from more whining.
"Harvik, my best brother-in-law, will you please give Agastya the call? It's kind of urgent" Om listened to both the calls as Aaina asked Harvik, after snatching the phone from Viaan.
"Anything for you, bhabima" the till now winning being yielded suddenly and after a few minutes, a groggy voice was heard on the phone.
"Hello, bhabs!"
"Gaya!! You getting married, " Omkara wasn't sure whether Aaina was telling him this or asking him? And what kind of nickname is Gaya??
"I am what!!!!!!" Agastya screamed from the other end of the phone. Totally perplexed.
"Getting married to Ritisha Oberoi, " Aaina repeated feeling frustrated with everything already.
"Yes, he is!!!" The excited voice of Harvik screamed from the background.
"What? When? Why wasn't I informed??" Agastya questioned back feeling totally distressed?
"Well, you were sleeping so auntie told me to inform you."
"What? How can they decide my marriage like this? I'm just 23. This is so wrong. I'm going to protest. I'm going to sit on Anshan. I'm not getting married before my elder brothers."
"You're an only child, Agastya" Harvik commented dryly.
"Well, isn't Viaan bro my elder bro, there is Ro bro and Savvy bro. How can I get married before them this is just wrong? I'm going to protest." Agastya yelled very-very infuriated at the whole world. This was a great injustice done with him.
"Gaya! Listen to me, please. Will you do one thing for me, please??" Aaina asked Agastya interrupting Agastya's monologue knowing his and Harvik's bickering can go on for a whole lifetime.
"Of course, bhabs"
"Will you please not say no to your parents?"
"Why??"
"Well, the girl is also forced in this marriage and I think you can help her out. So, ask to meet her. I'll plan something to save you both."
"Alright, bhabs...as you wish though can I punch Harvik??"
"Feel free to do so, here, talk to Viaan. He'll explain everything to you in more detail." Aaina said handing the phone back to Viaan.
"Beta, if you wait for Savvy's marriage then I'm sure you'll stay bachelor all your life, " Viaan commented dryly as he removed the call from the speaker and walked a little away from Omkara and Aaina. Savvy following him looking quite like an angry duckling. Hissing at Viaan to stop insulting him in front of his fav little brother.
Aaina just rolled her eyes at those crazy people and took the phone from Omkara. Hearing Omisha's words. Om listened silently as Aaina talked to Misha before handing it back to him. After disconnecting the call with Misha Om turned to Aaina.
"My disciple huh, " Omkara asked her laughing lightly
"Of course, Bapi I'm always your art disciple, " Aaina retorted cheekily
"Accha Ji, I'm sure winning a debate from you is impossible, "
"I'm a lawyer bapi"
"Agastya and Harvik seemed crazy, "
"I think that's the main criteria of joining the national team. You had to be absolutely bonkers."
Omkara just laughed hearing Aaina's words and how certain she seemed about them.
"Accha, I think we shouldn't tell your mom about this now, what say??"
"You're right, bapi" Aaina agreed wholeheartedly as they joined the rest of their group.
They sat together in the bank of the river for some time with Ansh, Viaan, Ro, and Savvy having a very hushed and serious conversation.
Aaina, Dani, and Panchi were also throwing suspicious glances at the boy, and then they were having their own hushed conversation.
While the elders just rolled their eyes at them. They were sure another boys vs girls war was cooking and they didn't want to get involved this early.
After, their peaceful yet not that peaceful outing. They returned back to the ashram and had dinner. The girls made sure Ansh and Savvy weren't sitting anywhere near them or near their plates. For the last time, they had literally stolen their food.
So, no risk was being taken tonight.
After dinner, the elders retired to their rooms while the younger folk decided to rest for some time and then meet again on the private ghat of the ashram.
Reaching her room. Aaina couldn't help but think about the reasons behind this alliance. The reason Omisha mentioned cold be one but Oberoi's weren't the kind to pawn of a daughter to hide an income tax scam.
She let the various scenarios run in her mind. All the pros and cons of this decision when something strikes in her mind and rang like a bell.
She got up and picked up her phone but noticing the time, she decided to get changed first. Changing in a baggy T-shirt and shorts. She dialed Ranvi's number.
Ranvi picked up the call on the fourth ring and as soon as he picked up the call. She was greeted with firing sounds.
"Did I get you at the wrong time? She couldn't help but ask feeling a little guilty.
"No, what's wrong?" He asked her sounding a little out of breath but okay.
"Oberoi's had struck a peculiar alliance. An Oberoi daughter and an all-rounder. The best and most important member of the team, " she didn't take the names for she was sure Ranvi will get her anyway.
"Oh!! Are you implying what I'm thinking??" Ranvi asked her sounding quite excited. This could be their best lead.
"Yups, if you're thinking what I'm thinking then you're right. I've started the ploy, " she informed him bluntly, taking the reins of the whole thing in her hand.
"Okay, I'll alert the network then, " he sighed out
"Ranvi, I've another little task for you"
"What task?"
"Can you get me the whole case files of Ansh Kapoor and Happy home orphanage. I want every detail and if a meet could be arranged with the runners of that orphanage then it'll be excellent, " she finished turning around as there was a knock on her door, and Viaan entered her room.
"Okay, I'll see... what can be done, " He said and Aaina was sure it'll be done.
"Thanks, bhai, will talk to you later," she spoke happily disconnected the call.
And turned to Viaan who was standing before her with his arms folded in front of his chest. Looking at her with an arched eyebrow.
"Sorry, baba, it was important, " she told him pulling up her best guilty puppy look.
"You promised no work and still, you're discussing cases now, " Viaan grumbled unhappily and Aaina sighed in relief realizing he didn't hear which case she was talking about.
"Sorry, sorry, sorry but it was really important, "
"Alright, let's go everyone must be waiting, " Viaan said giving up. Staying angry with Aaina was next to impossible for him.
"Yeah, let's go" Aaina smiled
She was about to walk out, but Viaan held her hand and tugged her back. Stopping her on her tracks.
He was looking at her with nervousness clear in his eyes. He was fidgeting a little too much too.
"What?" She asked him confused, weren't they supposed to go out? And why is he looking so nervous?
She got more confused when Viaan suddenly cupped her cheeks and before she could react or ask him if he was fine??
He kissed her and the world fell away. It was slow and soft, comforting in ways that words would never be. His hand rested below her ear, his thumb caressing her cheek as their breaths mingled.
And for the first few seconds, she stood stoic. Totally shocked, after that, she started melting slowly like chocolate on a very hot day. Slowly, softly, melting under his warmth.
The kiss obliterated every other thought from her mind. For the first time in forever, Aaina's mind was frozen in the moment. In a pleasant way. All the worries and tension in her mind evaporating like water sprinkled on a red hot pan. She didn't want the moment to end or if this was another daydream of hers. She wanted it to play for forever.
But sadly like everything else in the world. The moment came to its end too. Came to its end sooner than both of them wanted it too.
She looked at him with various emotions dancing in her eyes, trying her best to get her hiked breathing under control.
He had kissed her. He had really kissed her.
And she wasn't expecting this kiss at all. She had dreamt of kissing him for quite a few months. But she had never imagined this moment. She hadn't ever imagined how warm his lips will feel against her.
Warmth still radiated from the spot where his lips just touched her's and before she could think something. Before she could convert the emotions in her eyes into words.
He had surprised her again.
He went on his knees still holding onto her hand. She hadn't realized when he held her hand again.
"Aaina Randhawa this feels absolutely right. I don't know what's going in my heart but it's all warm and fuzzy and good. I'm feeling like everything good and happy has suddenly started residing inside me. I know we know each other. I know we have been besties for ages. I know we are going to marry each other no matter what but still, I want to officially court you before we marry. So, will you be my girlfriend? Will you like to court me in the coming months? Will you take me as your boyfriend?" She had heard a lot about romantic Viaan Kundra but never witnessed it. She was sure there isn't a single romantic bone in his body.
But here he goes proving her wrong again. Dating before marriage sounds an awesome idea to her and he hasn't still confessed to her. She'll make sure he does in these six months.
So, she just nods in affirmative to his proposal. For she was feeling really warm and happy and good. It felt right.
Viaan beamed at her as he stood up and embraced her.
"Ready to be Viaan Kundra's girlfriend?" He asked her a little cockily and she couldn't help but laugh. She wanted to be so for so long. He can't even imagine that.
"Ready to be Aaina's boyfriend" she retorted back making him laugh.
"Absolutely, " he admitted laughing as he held her hand again and the mentioned as an afterthought "let's not tell Savvy about it yet, "
"Sure, " Aaina agreed readily already imagining Savvy's reaction when he will get to know about this.
He'll throw a mighty fit.
It'll be fun. She thought as they walked out of her room hand in hand after locking her room.
~to be continued~
Hush, done with it. Guys, I suck at romance so please forgive me if I messed it up.
But Viaan asked Aaina to be his girlfriend? Yaay.
But he still hasn't confessed. When will he realize that he is in love?
And ready for more baba Savvy and Baba Ansh adventures?
