Scarlett.
"Alright Jerry, one order of cinnamon banana pancakes with a side of bacon. Did you want another cup of tea?" I ask the sweet old man as he licks his lips and his eyes widen in adoration when he sees the plate set in front of him.
With a small little wave of his hand he says, "No thank you Miss Scarlett." He pours the syrup over his pancakes and uses his fork to cut a small piece of it. Bringing it to his lips, he closes his eyes and grins while he chews. "Mm. I am so glad you got Marie to put this as a special. It is my new favorite. My wife would have loved these." He opens his eyes back up and looks back down to his plate of food.
Smiling, I remember last weekend when Dean told Marie to try my pancakes and she loved it so much, she asked if it was okay to put it as a special on the weekends. Scar's Special. I liked seeing that written on the black chalkboard that hangs on the wall when customers walk in.
"Bon appetite Jerry." I smile and turn around to see a gentleman wearing brown shorts and a brown shirt walk in holding an envelope and some type of handheld device.
"Hello, can I help you?" I ask the man.
He scans the room briefly before moving towards me, standing behind the coffee bar. "Hello there, miss. Is Marie Connors in by any chance?"
I look at his name tag and it reads Craig from UPS. "No, she isn't. She should be back in about an hour or so though."
"Oh alright, well if I may-," he hands me the handheld device and smiles, "would you please sign here? It is a package for Marie."
I nod, taking the device out of his hand and starting signing my name in the box on the small screen. They really should make these bigger. My name barely fits, the last couple letters of my last name not very readable, I hand him back his handheld and he exchanged it for the large yellow envelope he had come in with. I smile and wave goodbye to Craig the UPS guy when Jerry calls over to me. I set the envelope onto the counter and continue working.
After a couple hours pass, Marie walks in from the back of the restaurant. "Thank you for working the morning shift Scarlett." She says smiling, hanging her purse up on the rack.
"Not a problem."
"Go ahead and clock out for the day. I hear you and Dean have plans today." She says with a grin. I still don't know what he has planned for today but I'm excited to say the least.
I remove my apron, punch my time card, and then grab my purse and keys ready to leave when I almost forgot the envelope for Marie. Picking up the envelope from the counter I walk it over to her. "Marie, before I go, this package arrived for you today. They had me sign for it."
"Oh, thank you honey." She says smiling, taking the envelope from me. I glance down at it before it is completely out of my grasp, not trying to be nosy but it was a natural reaction.
Department of Corrections- Michael Connors. Oh my gosh, Deans dad? In prison? Did Dean know? I watch as Marie reads the label to herself and I observe how she curls her lip at it and brings it to her chest in one quick motion as if to hide it. Oh my gosh, is she hiding this from Dean?
Clearing her throat, Marie says, "Uh thank you. I will see you tomorrow evening."
I nod and she gives me a faint smile before scurrying off. What just happened?
To try and tune out the thoughts from running through my mind, I blare Slow Hands by Niall Horan and sway to the music as I get ready. I still don't know what we are doing but Dean said to dress comfortably. So, with that, I end up choosing my black leggings, black converse, and a nude colored tank top. I end up straightening my hair before applying some mascara and some natural color eyeshadow.
I hear a light knock on the door before Valerie opens it just enough for her to poke her head in. "He's here!" She chirps with a giggle before she closes the door.
Anxiously, I glance once more in the mirror at my appearance. This will have to do. I grab my phone and purse and walk out of my bedroom to see Dean talking with Valerie and Seth. Seth sits on the couch with Valerie on his lap, while Dean stands with his arms crossed over his chest, his muscles are visible from here. He is a pair of those denim jeans I love, a hunter green colored V-neck and his black converse. How is it even possible for one to look so effortlessly handsome?
Dean looks over his shoulder and when he spots me walking towards him, he uncrosses his arms and smiles that sexy side smirk. "Hey pretty girl, you ready to go?" He beams.
"All ready. Does this look okay for...what is it we are doing again?"
He shakes his head with a grin. "Nice try Scar, but I'm not telling you." He looks over at Seth and Valerie and winks. "I'll have her home by a decent hour."
Seth grins and nods at the same time Valerie says, "There is no rush. You two have a good time."
I give them both a hug, kissing Seth on the cheek. "Love you guys, see you later." I grab Dean's hand as he holds it out for me and our fingers intertwine with one another.
"Love you." Valerie and Seth both call out as we exit the door.
Dean opens the door for me to his jeep and gestures for me to get in and I obey. He walks around the front of the bumper with a skip in his step and a smile, and I can tell he's excited, just as I am. He gets in the seat and puts his key in the ignition, the sound of his jeep engine comes to life. Dean turns in his seat to face me as I buckle myself up. "Okay, so you need to wear this." He states, holding out a red bandana.
I arch my brow and cross my arms, "No. No way. Just tell me where we are going, please." I pout and then bring my palms together, begging, "Please just tell me. The suspense is killing me." Dean chuckles and shakes his head. I know that look, it isn't going to happen, so bandana it is. With a dramatic eye roll, I grin and say, "Fine."
After being driven around in darkness, we finally reach our destination about 20 minutes later. I hear Dean unbuckle his seat belt and then feel his hot breath on my cheek as he leans over, unbuckling my seat belt. "Okay, we are here." He removes the bandana from my head, allowing me to see where it is he has taken me.
My eyes widen at the view in front of me. He has taken me to the local baseball field. I get out of the jeep and Dean meets me on my side, placing his hand on the small of my back and leading me to the gate entrance. Walking through the gate, I see that the lights are on, illuminating the middle of the field where a bucket is placed at the pitcher's mound, filled with softballs. Next to it, there is a blanket that I recognize from his bed, and it has a single rose laying down on it. A bottle of sparling apple cider and two glasses sit nicely next to a couple of to go boxes of food.
"What is all of this?" I ask. My heart races at the incredibly romantic gesture. He planned all of this for me?
"Well, see, that is a bucket of softballs, which you will be pitching to me. And then to the right, is some cheesecake. Your favorite." He smirks.
A smile plasters my face as I elbow him. "Smartass. Dean this is so sweet."
"There is more, but first you need to pitch me a couple of those balls." He says and jogs over to the catcher's positon with his glove that is already sitting on the base.
He really went above and beyond and got all of this ready. I watch as puts the glove on and then squats down, putting out the glove for me, palm open. "Okay, give me your best."
I look down at my outfit. "Uh, Dean. I do not have my glove. And you do not have gear on." I point out.
I see Dean look down as he places his opposite hand over his crotch area. "Just don't hit the jewels and we will be okay." He remarks, making me giggle.
I shrug and pull out of the first ball and pitch it to him. It feels weird without my cleats and my glove. I feel almost, naked? I can't help but laugh at the foreign feeling as I pitch a few more of the balls that sit on top in the bucket. I look back in the bucket to grab another ball but spot a brown box sitting on top of the rest of the softballs. Picking it up, I glance up at Dean, whose now standing up with a grin and gesturing for me to open it.
The box feels kind of heavy so I am curious as to what it is. I open the lid and remove the bubble wrap to reveal a snow globe. Gasping, I take the snow globe out, dropping the box and bubble wrap to the ground. This isn't just any snow globe. Dean had it custom made for me. Inside the globe are two pictures in the middle. On one side is a picture of Dean rubbing his nose to mine, our signature penguin kiss and on the other side is a picture of us when we were at the club by his family cabin, the picture I remember Nina had taken. I shake the snow globe and watch as the white particles mimic a snowstorm. I look to the base of the snow globe and see that engraved it reads, Scar-Prom? Love, Dean.
I re-read the word prom and Love Dean several times over before looking up and seeing that Dean has walked over to me, now inches away from me. "So what do you say? Will you give me the honors of being my prom date?"
I look back at my snow globe and set it down on the blanket, before jumping on Dean, wrapping my arms around his neck and my legs around his waist. "I would love to go to prom with you. I love this, all of this." I marvel, turning my head and admiring everything that this incredible boyfriend of mine did.
I look back into his electric blue eyes, which are gazing at me, making my insides melt. "I was hoping you would say yes, otherwise my whole snow globe idea wouldn't have been as creative. I know you collect them whenever you go somewhere new, so I figured this could be added to your collection. Your first time going to prom, and our fist picture."
Fighting back my sappy tears, I cup his face with my hands, and rub my nose gently to his before brushing my lips across his. Once he lets me down and we sit down to take a couple bites of cheesecake, I felt a drop of water hit my cheek. I bring my index finger to wipe it away, only to have another drop fall on my other cheek.
"Great, it's starting to drizzle." Dean groans the same time we hear the loud clap of thunder in the darkened sky. "I will start packing up the stuff. You mind carrying the blanket?" I shake my head and sit up, grabbing the blanket and head towards the jeep.
The rain starts pouring when I reach the jeep. I love the rain. The feeling of the water falling from steady and softly from the cloudy sky, landing on me washing everything anew and bringing a happiness that is pure. I grab my necklace and hold it between my thumb and index finger, kissing it before putting my head back and closing my eyes, letting the rain drench me. I inhale to absorb the earthy, wafting storm scent.
"What are you doing, crazy ass?" Dean chuckles as he runs up to me, all of the stuff from our evening in his hand. He hands me the single rose and he smiles.
Dean puts everything in the backseat before he hops in the jeep with me in the front, running his fingers through his now drenched hair. I gawk at his incredibly sexy features. Rain drops hang from his full lashes and then drop to his cheeks.
I crawl over the console of the seat and straddle him, the steering wheel pushing into my back. Dean's eyes widen with curiosity and I think shock at my sudden and out of character gesture. He gasps as I shift myself so that I sit comfortable on his lap before I cup his damp face and kiss his lips. The fresh scent of rain mixed with his cologne radiates from his body. It is by far the best pleasurable smell that my nostrils have endured.
"You are soaked." I smirk, resting my forehead to his.
"So are you." He mutters with a grin.
Dean does a once over as his blue eyes drag from my eyes down to my legs and back. I then feel his hands rest on my hips.
"Scar-," he exhales, pulling his head back and looks at me. His grin fades into a more serious look as he pushes some of my wet hair behind my ear, "I love you."
