Restlessness
Mark couldn't sleep as he thought of Felix and Cry, or the demons Xilef and Mad that they had become, their angry pitch black eyes seared into his mind as he restlessly tossed and turned.
"You're driving me fucking insane with your restlessness." Dark spoke up irritably.
Mark exhaled slowly in reply, gradually growing used to Dark's sudden intrusions.
"Yeah well, that's what happens when your friends change and hate you all of a sudden." Mark huffed snappishly, wearily rubbing his face with his hands.
"You think I don't know what betrayal is like?" Dark scoffed coldly, his voice laced with bitterness.
"Betrayed? By who?" Mark replied with a confused frown.
"Wow, you really are dumber than I thought." Dark muttered under his breath.
"Look, you already know all of my secrets since you're in my head, I should at least be able to know one of yours." Mark countered.
Dark didn't answer for a moment, making Mark think that he wouldn't answer at all.
"I didn't always hate Anti, we actually used to be friends. A few years ago, Anti and I agreed that we would take over this world together, just the two of us. Then he tried killing me so he could rule this world alone. As evident, he didn't succeed." Dark recounted, his tone tinged with wistfulness of a time long passed.
"There, happy? Now go the fuck to sleep." Dark grumbled sourly.
"Wait, you took control of me by force before when Jack was in trouble, why aren't you doing that now?" Mark interrupted.
"Just leave me alone." Dark sighed wearily, sounding tired of Mark's questions.
Mark nodded as he rolled over to his side and closed his eyes, feeling a sense of loneliness as he cracked his eyes open to look at the empty half of the bed that Amy used to occupy.
"You should go for a walk around the house, let your body wear itself out while you think." Dark advised.
Mark quietly got out of bed and wandered aimlessly around his house, making sure he stayed away from Jack's room to avoid accidentally waking him up.
Then he had an idea.
Mark went into his recording room and shut the door behind him before he started up his computer and sat in his chair.
"I could use a bit of normality." Mark muttered at his camera while he browsed through his library of games.
In the end, he went with Happy Wheels since he had no idea what else to play.
Mark took a deep breathe before he started recording, a small lighting up his face for the first time in what felt like years.
"Hello everybody, my name is Markiplier and welcome back to-"
"HAAAAAAPPY WHEELS!"
Mark let out a rather girly scream as he leapt out of his chair, Jack doubled over laughing in the doorway.
"Fuck you man!" Mark wheezed, trying to regain his composure as Jack waltzed in.
"You're not as quiet as you think you are Mark." Jack remarked with a snicker, causing Mark to fake pout.
"God, it's nice to have something familiar." Jack sighed as he looked at the starting screen of Happy Wheels wistfully.
"You wanna give it a go? We can take turns." Mark offered.
"Sure, why the hell not?" Jack replied with a grin, motioning for Mark to choose a level first.
"You're rather bad at this game." Dark mused as Mark's character died once again during a spike fall level.
"Like you can do any better." Mark retorted, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Watch me."
Instantaneously Mark felt Dark take control of his body against his will, earning a startled cry from Jack.
"Oh shut up, I don't want to kill you." Dark told Jack with an eye roll as he continued playing the game.
Jack backed away from Dark with a panicked expression while Dark breezed through the levels, his focus glued to the game.
"Told you." Dark taunted Mark before relinquishing control, allowing Mark to take back over.
"That was actually pretty cool." Jack admitted.
"Yeah..." Mark nodded slowly, confused by why Dark didn't keep control of Mark to cause any damage.
"Anti is my target, not Jack. When Anti decides to resurface from his shell, then I'll strike and make him pay for what he did." Dark answered, his voice brimming with fierce determination.
