Chapter III
Hana POV
Mari and I were waiting for Meiko to return with the strange and apparently terrifying boy. While we waited, I noticed Mari began to shuffle nervously.
Hana: Seriously, what did he do to you that has you so terrified? *Gasps* Is he blackmailing you?! Threatening to hurt Chiyo?! I'll kick his ass if he is.
Mari: No! He hasn't done anything to me! It's just he's... different and not in a good way. Honestly I'd rather he be a pervert and allowed to wander around outside the prison! He's just not normal and it makes me so damn uncomfortable! I can't get a read on the guy but he can read on me almost instantly! Then there's the way introduced himself! He started with what couldn't be a name.
Hana: What did he call himself?
Mari: EC- and that was it before he changed his mind. It was clear he was covering up what he was actually called but I wasn't willing to push for further details, especially with the girls he had as company— The ones who enrolled in the school at the same exact time as him. They're trying to protect him and I don't know why...
Hana: Hmmm...*picks up her tea cup* well now's a good time as ever to learn.
Just then the door opened and Meiko walked into the room.
Hana: Where is h-
He then walked into the room and I understood what Mari meant and Meiko's pale face only helped to confirm her claim... as for him... I swear I was looking at a serial killer who had just murdered his victim!
Hana: *chokes on her tea* OH JEUS!
Mari: *Mutters and in a dreadful tone* Told yo- *senses the menacing atmosphere surrounding Y/N* Erk!
Meiko: P-Please t-take a seat.
Y/N: Thank you, Miss Shiraki...
He then sat on the opposite side of the table but he was looking me straight in the eye.
Hana: H-H-Hi~!
Y/N: Hello. Hana Midorikawa, yes?
Hana: Y-Yep! That's me~~! Haha... Welcome to the s-school!
Y/N: You don't have to pretend to be cheerful that I'm here. I apologize if I've done anything to make you three uncomfortable...
Hana: (talk to us without lifeless eyes to start goddammit!) A-Ah! I-It's okay~!
Y/N: *Looks at Mari* You wanted to talk to me?
Mari: Y-Yes. It's about our... m-meeting last night. I-I apologize if this—
Y/N: Are you wanting to talk to me because you want to try and make sure that we come to an understanding that you didn't mean to come off as hostile as you did... or because you perceive me as a threat to you, the legitimacy of the underground student council, and—or the safety of the students here?
All three: *Stop to take a moment to register what Y/N just said*
Mari: B-Both?
Y/N: If I answer your questions, will you leave me and my friends alone..?
Mari: U-Unless something happens that requires our immediate attention, I promise...
Y/N: ...
Hana: W-Would you like some tea?
Y/N: No...
Hana: A-Alright.
———- Y/N POV ———-
Without any delay, they began to ask me questions about myself and answered most of them with complete honesty but I bent the truth on some questions. Then came a question I was expecting sooner or later.
Mari: If I may ask, why are you so...
Y/N: Cold and lifeless?
Mari: Y-Yeah...
Y/N: (Lying won't get me anywhere but it's unwise My past experiences stripped me of nearly all of my humanity for lack of a better explanation. I was taught that emotions don't matter, that lives and the feelings of others are nothing more than obstacles in the way. I learned the completion of a mission came first, high command's orders came second, the objectives came third, and the lives of my my brothers in arms came last. The civilians were nothing more than target practice and training dummies...
Meiko: ... JESUS WHERE ARE YOU FROM?!
Y/N: Belarus, but I don't know much about my family... I was taken from them by....
Hana: By...?
Y/N: Terrorists...
Meiko: This is rather... absurd...
Y/N: I know, but I have no reason to lie.
Mari: Is that why you began to introduce yourself as "EC-" something?
Y/N: Yes... EC Child Soldier 47 was the only name I ever had before I was taken in by American forces... they're the ones who gave me a name and tried to help me...
Mari: What does "EC" stand for?
Y/N: Expeditionary Class. It was my job to sneak into enemy territory and scout out military bases, what they had there and if possible, sabotage enemy equipment, preferably with the sabotage being so severe, it resulted in the death of enemy combatants... (It actually stands for Elite class, meaning I was one of their greatest killers but they don't need to know that...)
Hana: Oh....
Meiko: Jesus....
Mari: W-Well I um... Hmm... Well if you don't mind, I'd like-
Just then my phone rang and it was from Mary so I immediately pulled out my phone and answered.
Y/N: Yes? What's up Mar-
Mary: Hey Y/N. My equipment intercepted some radio frequencies and we have a major problem.
Y/N: *Becomes serious in an instant, causing all three girls to jump* Okay. What's wrong?
Mary: Radio frequencies indicate we got terrorists headed our way... but you'll hate the next part of this. They're from the same group of terrorists who... ya know...
Y/N: ... *GIF below* noted... Permission to engage...?
Homura: You're the one in charge, sir.
Y/N: Oh yeah... Prepare to engage. They are nothing but savage beasts... rabid dogs. The only thing left to do is send them to a kill shelter... and naturally, I'm more than happy to dedicate my life to such a job like this...
Mine: Happy, huh? You always make it seem like you're incapable of being that.
Mary: No kidding...
Balalaika: *Suddenly speaks up* Hope you don't mind me joining in on the conversation~, but it seems you enjoy killing, isn't that right Y/N?
Y/N: I do not enjoy it, but when it comes to situations like these, it's just another chore, like any other.
Balalaika: Fufufu~. So cold and heartless. Sometimes I wonder how badly they really screwed you up~...
Y/N: They taught me that the lives of those who oppose my orders are parasites that must be annihilated from this world, nothing more... nothing less. They never thought I'd turn my back on them... "O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed. Happy shall he be, that reweardth thee as thou hast served us. Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones..."
Balalaika: Hmph~. From Psalm 137; how fitting to rival a radical religious terrorist organization with their own weapon standing against them while using scripture from an opposing religion~. I've messaged the Japanese government to send in a special operations unit now. Approximate arrival time is an hour at most... Stay frosty~.
Y/N: Understood.
I hung up and turned to look at the three.
Y/N: Mari... Text your dad and tell him "Code Crimson Locus."
Mari: W-What?!
Just then, a sniper shot rang out and shattered the window narrowly missing the window.
Y/N: *Turns to look at the sniper* Hurry up.
