Summer heat had pressed itself against my naked body
And I allowed it to scoop me into its charming arms
Now I desperately wish that someone had stopped me
From falling for someone I knew would break my heart
Selfishly, I savoured the sweet flavours of your frozen lips
But then, so suddenly, the ice cream melted on your mouth
And the chocolate and the vanilla and the mint
Dripped and dripped onto the ground
The distinct scent of our passionate romance
Was of emerald grass and sunburned skin
But our hourglass spat out each grain of sand
And it was over before it could even begin
Our flaming sphere of love and desire
Hung far above the golden-blue horizon
But those waves lapped against our fire
And swept over its sizzling eyelids
While you have easily slid into a forest of saffron and flame
I'm still stuck here, scavenging the fields for scraps of you
And although I find nothing I stay in the same place
Because, who knows, you might return to what you once knew
Oh, how I hate that I crave every inch of your seasonal warmth
Want it—need it in the way that summer needs the sun
While I burn at the equator, you're traveling North
Becoming colder and colder—till your heart has grown numb
