Chapter One - Welcome

Teari's POV (because I can)

"Teari! Are you up yet!" Yelled my good friend, Tracey.

"A-almost!" I replied back, stuttering when I realized that I drifted off again.

The problems of having ADD.

I quickly scurried through my closet and tossed some (slightly) ripped denim shorts on my twin size bed with Fennekin decorated sheets and Eevee blanket. Honestly, I hate denim. Every time my mom bought me a new pair of jeans without me there with her to try them on, they'd never fit right. But today I'd just have to deal because it is hot outside here in Inkanni, and my mom would throw a fit if she saw me in my usual black leggings. I'll also have to change my purple and red Pokéball off-the-shoulder sweater due to the hot weather. So for a top, I chose to a wear an orange and purple frilly crop top, with a pink tank top underneath.

Today is the first day of school. I would say that today is the first day of 'high' school, but the school we're going to, Inkanni High, teaches kids that are at least 8 years old. They don't have grade levels either, just some sort of similar system that I'm not quite sure how it works.

When I came over to Inkanni with Misty, Ash, Tracey, Ember, and Brock, I never expected us to automatically be enrolled into the school. Some of Ash's other friends also came over here, using their own means of transportation and evidently resulted in the same fate. So when we were told that we had to move to Rejuven Town to attend Inkanni High, Tracey and I decided to stick together while the others either got their own place or roomed with somebody else. That's in case you we're wondering why Tracey was in my house.

"Teari! Hurry up! We're going to be late!" Tracey shouted.

"Coming!" I replied.

I quickly glanced at myself I the mirror and smiled. I had never once realized how cute my hair looked in a Ponyta tail. It had always been let down or in Tepig tails when I was younger. I grabbed my green backpack stuffed with school supplies (plus Chiko with her leaf sticking out of the bag so she wouldn't suffocate in her hiding place), and headed down the stairs.

There, I found Tracey sitting on the couch with a slice of toast in one hand and his phone in the other. Next to him was a plate with two slices of toast, one with honey butter spread, and the other with nutella. Man, he knows me so well.

Hearing my footsteps, he looked up at me, jaw dropping. Marill giggled.

I smiled, walking over to him and held his chin up before sitting next to him, giggling, "You need to stop doing that," I teased him, taking a bite of toast.

I could tell that he wanted to say something flirty, but chickened out. Oh how I love my gift. To just be able to sense things. I wonder if it means something...

He rolled his eyes, "Yeah, I know..." he said trailing off.

I took this as an opportunity to take another bite of toast.

He cleared his throat before finally saying, "You look beautiful... as usual," he added shyly.

I giggled, "Well you don't look too bad yourself."

He looked up at me in confusion, "But this is what I usually wear."

He wasn't wrong about that, he was wearing his normal green tee shirt and crimson shorts, "Exactly," I replied with the usual quirky bounce in my voice that everyone (especially Tracey) Absol-utely loves.

Tracey gave in a gave a light laugh and smile. He always does that when I respond to just about anything he questions me about with a smile. I love how I can just see how much he loves me in every little thing he does. He's just too cute!

We finished eating our toast and headed out the door. I decided to take Chiko and Angel with me today, as well as my Lucario, Luca, and my Gardevoir, Grace.

Luca and Grace were two of my closest Pokémon that have been with me for about 2 years. They are also really strong and protective, which is how I know that I'll be safe if anything goes wrong.

Tracey had all three of his Pokémon with him.

We were a few feet away from our front porch when Tracey suddenly stopped and bent over, "Hop on," Tracey said, smiling at me.

I giggled at this, knowing what he wanted to do. He wanted to give me a Tepiggy back ride, "Oh alright," I smiled while rolling my eyes and 'hopping on'. Sometimes he's just too sweet for his own good. I can't help but love it.

I love him to death. I really do. He just makes me feel so happy, like we were kids again. I remember everything we did back than. It was amazing in every way possible, like a fairytale. I'm so glad we found each other again. Those 4 years without him were completely miserable. It's like we were just made to be.

About halfway there, we came across Ash, Misty, Brock, Ember, and another one of Ash's friends. I think she's the girl from Hoenn, May Maple.

"Hey guys!" Tracey greeted, catching up to them.

"Hey, Tracey," Ash replied, while everyone smiled at us, "Is Teari okay?" Ash asked with concern about why I was being carried. I laughed.

"I'm fine!" I exclaimed to the group, lifting my head high with a cheerful expression, "Tray just wanted to give me a Tepiggy back ride," I explained to the slightly still puzzled Ash, "Isn't that right, Tray?" I asked, putting my head on his shoulder while somewhat facing him, to where I could kiss his cheek if I felt like it. Speaking of his cheeks, I could feel heat that was coming from them. He was blushing!

"Y-yeah..." he stuttered, smiling a little. Ah! He's so cute!

That's when I decided to kiss his cheek, and I watched his blush redden even more. Maybe it was because there are others here to see it.

Ash, being the dense person he is, watched it thinking that it was a friend thing, and then started saying that he wanted to give someone a Tepiggy back ride too. So in the end, Ash gave Misty a Tepiggy back ride. Brock said that Tepiggy back rides weren't really his thing, so he ended up picking up my cousin and carrying her bridal style. And while I was talking to Tracey, May at some point joined in on the fun by having her Blaziken give her a Tepiggy back ride as well.

When we got there, I got off of Tracey and watched as many kids of various ages lined up around the school.

"Hey, May?" Brock asked her, "Where's Max?"

"Oh, Max and I met these three kids from Kalos, and Max wanted to spend the night at their place because of this girl named Bonnie," May explained, "She is the sweetest thing ever!"

"Bonnie?" Ash questioned, "Did she have a brother named Clemont?"

"Yeah, you know them?"

"Yeah! They traveled with me in Kalos as well as this girl named Serena."

"Cool," May stated plainly, oblivious to the uneasiness I sensed from Misty.

Although it seemed to instantly melt away as soon as the fiery spirited Gym Leader spotted a certain popular Hoenn grass head, coming towards us.

"Hey, May~," Misty teased her in a sing song voice, "Your boyfriend is here."

May blushed, "Shut up! He's not my boyfriend!"

That's when Drew come out of no where, smirking at her, "Who's not your boyfriend?"

I giggled to myself. Even though I've barely even met these two, I can already tell that May likes him and that he knows it. I can't tell if he likes her back though, considering I just saw him for the first time within this very minute, and that he hasn't even acknowledged my existence.

I don't often use the term 'like', because the way I think of 'like' doesn't apply to me. I think that love is when you deeply care for someone who trusts in you, and that you don't have to have a sexual attraction to someone to love them. Like is more of a feeling. Love isn't a feeling, despite what others say. Love is a choice. You can choose to either love or not love. Like is more of hormonal thing, that if executed correctly, can become love.

May twitched, surprised by his sudden appearance, "Well let's see, Ash isn't my boyfriend, Brock isn't my boyfriend, you aren't my--"

Drew chuckled, interrupting her, "Not according to the media."

My eyes widened, but not nearly as much as May's.

"What!?"

Drew quickly pulled something up on his phone and showed it to May. I notice that they aren't walking to far apart from each other. Could this be a sign?

As I watched May read whatever was on the screen, I sensed that her emotions were bouncing to and from anger and embarrassment.

She furrowed her brows and huffed, looking at anything but him. Uh oh. Not a good sign.

She growled, "How could you do that!?"

"I thought it was cute," Drew... smiled?

Based on everyone else's expressions, he wasn't one to smile.

May blushed, but she was denying it, "Cute!? More like embarrassing!"

"It's only embarrassing if you make it," Drew countered.

"That doesn't mean you can just post that without asking me!!" May argued.

I can already tell that Drew's losing this. It seems to me that Drew bit off more than he can chew, expecting an easy forgiveness.

His mind seemed to be searching for a response, something that'd guarantee him the upper hand.

Then, I realized that I knew that look. I knew it very well.

Oh God.

He's going to do what I do to win the upper hand when I'm talking to Tracey.

He's going to flirt!

"I know, but--"

"Come on guys," Brock interrupted, "We're going to be late."

Let me tell you, I don't think that I've ever been more pissed off in my entire life than I am right now. Ugggh!

Why Brock!? Why!?

~

After we entered Inkanni High, some Student Council looking kids lead us into the auditorium. They said that the headmistress was going to make an announcement to explain how things worked here and such. Drew went off to sit somewhere else. I'm still mad at Brock about what happened. It's all little odd, really. I haven't even had a single decent conversation with either of them, yet I'm shipping them as if I've stalked them their entire life. As I looked around, I could see that only a few dozen people were sitting in the front two rows reserved for people that were visiting the Inkanni region like we are.

I noticed that Ash seemed quite elated. It seemed that he knew a lot of the people that are here.

I sat next to Tracey, Misty sat next to me, Ash sat next to her, then Brock, Ember, and May. Not long after that, the lights around us diminished and the spotlights illuminated the stage.

A girl with long wavy dark magenta hair with fabulous hot pink highlights that was managed into stylish twin braids with bangs that were clipped back into a pink rose barrette walked up to the mic. I could hear the other assembled male students, who seemed to have attended the school before, whoop and whistle at the girl.

I leaned over and checked to see if Brock was behaving, which he thankfully was.

"Good morning Inkanni High!" The girl cheerfully exclaimed, "My name is Rosalie Ann Hopper-"

When Ash heard this, he started to lose it before Misty elbowed him in the ribs.

"-You're Student Body President, but please call me Rose," she said. She seemed to have this derpy and loveable vibe that seemed familiar, "But enough about me! Here's your headmistress-- Headmistress Lilla!" Rose cheered, stepping off the stage.

Then the headmistress appeared. She was surprisingly young, around her early twenties or so. Her beautiful dark blonde hair was short and waved around her elegantly, her eyeglasses poised in a high manner, "Thank you Rose. It is my honor to welcome everyone to a fresh new school year here at Inkanni High," she smiled politely to all of us. She has a very mature nature for her young age. I like it.

The students erupted in cheers. I was befuddled. When did I walk in on the Pokéathlon? I looked to Tracey who simply shrugged, the Uproar obviously not as bothersome to him.

"Why is this school year so special, you may ask? Well, it is because this year, we have many new students joining us from across the regions, visiting our quaint little island in hopes of finding a new light. A new pathway as they discover and reach their goals, passions, and most of all, achieve their dreams!" She proclaimed, as I understood the students' actions.

Headmistress Lilla is a very motivational speaker, spreading bliss and compassion in a layer of sweet melodic music. Just describing the spontaneous speech enriches me.

The crowded auditorium clapped in a harmonious wonder at her way with words. It was a simple, almost cliche speech really, but by the way the words rolled through the air in waves of honesty from the soul, was uplifting beyond belief.

She then explained to us that when you first start out in this training school, we're considered as Lv. 1 Trainees, which is also known as the Pichu Class. She didn't explain how we can earn our way to the next level though. Lilla also explained to us that if you can keep high credits in your classes, or just exile in general, you could have the opportunity to pick out one of the remaining Pokémon they typically offer to those who start school without one. Including the Inkanni starters, if available.

I honestly couldn't wait to get my class schedule now so I could see what classes I have with Tracey... Not that I have a problem with Misty or anyone else, but I at least need Tracey in most of my classes.

We watched as she called up the names of the kids without a Pokémon. I wasn't paying too much attention until May said, "Hey, look! There's Max getting his now."

I looked up, and sure enough, there was the short boy with dark hair and bulky glasses named none other than Max Maple, choosing a Pokémon. At first, it looked like he choose a Minccino, but he then whispered something in it's ear, before it nodded and was returned. He then looked as if he was torn between three different ones, before ultimately choosing...

"Ah! A Cyndaquil! That's a good choice," Headmistress Lilla noted as she watched the Fire Mouse Pokémon nuzzle the nerdy boy, "I can already tell that you two are going to be fast friends," she said, smiling at the boy.

She was bent down to his level with her hand on his shoulder, in a reassuring way that didn't seem to make him uncomfortable. Though I could tell it made May uneasy. She didn't quite trust her yet would be my guess.

"Cynda-quil!" Max's new partner squealed from his shoulder. It was SO cute!

"You really think so?" Max asked the woman.

"Definitely," the woman answered, "and may I say that you're a wonderful friend for asking Minccino that."

I smiled as I watched May look back in surprise. Brock simply smirked with a knowing nod of his head while Misty and Ash were distracted with their thumb war.

Up on stage, Max blushed while glancing in the direction he came from. Following his gaze, I saw a little fruity yellow blonde girl that was around Max's age sitting with an older boy of the same color blonde that was around Ash's age who was paying more attention to the honey blonde chic on his other side. The little girl looked at him curiously for a second, with a light pink dusted on her cheeks.

"T-thank you, ma'am," Max stuttered at her mention.

By the time Bonnie was called up, my guess was proven correct the moment the Minccino choose the girl. It was so sweet of him to do that for her.

Then Headmistress Lilla released us and we were handed our schedules. Mine was:

Period 1- Breakfast
Period 2- Battle Strategies
Period 3- Type Match-Ups
Period 4- Pokémon Eggs
Period 5- Study Hall
Period 6- Lunch
Period 7- Legendary Studies
Period 8- Physical Training
Period 9- Pokémon Health
Period 10- Pokémon Evolution

"What's Physical Training?" Ash asked us as we walked out.

"I think it's like a gym--" Tracey started to explain, before getting hit in the back of the head by Misty.

"Don't explain it to him like that!" Misty exclaimed, "You'll only confuse him with Pokémon Gyms!"

"Yeah, Tracey," I butted in, "He's too dense to know which ones you're talking about."

"Who was she directing that roast towards?" May asked the group.

Ember sweat dropped, "I think both."

I giggled. Tracey, who was next to me of course, looked over my schedule. Everyone else already went on their way.

"We have almost the same classes," Tracey mentioned, smiling. He's almost always smiling... I love it.

I took a look at his schedule, "Except for forth and seventh period," I said, finishing for him, almost frowning.

Tracey noticed, "Come on, Teari. Cheer up! It's only the two study classes. They don't even have Pokémon battles in those classes."

I managed to smile, "Yeah, I guess you're right."

I looked off to the right, catching sight of an old friend of mine from Unova. On his shoulder sat a Pidove, cooing at his touch. I smiled to myself at the sight of him. Maybe I can talk to him later... So much has happened since I last saw him in Unova...

"You okay, Teari?" Tracey asked, snapping me from my thoughts.

I smiled, "Yeah! Never better! Let's go!"
