02 | New Beginnings
The chapter contains some instances (in italics) which are almost copy pasted from the past episodes of the show as it was important to mention them.
Happy Reading.
The next day Naina left for Jaipur with so many instructions from elders and some senti moments withj Chachaji, Chachiji and especially her soul sister-cum-friend Preeti. She bid an emotional goodbye to all the family members including Swati who had come to say goodbye to her best friend.
The train starts and Naina looking forward, sits on her window seat, with her luggage. Her eyes were filled with mixed emotions, showing happiness of going to Banasthali where she will pursue a best education which was her dream whereas she was unhappy of being distanced by her family and loved ones and specially The Most Special person in her life Sameer who is still unaware of her love but she tried her best to tell Sameer her feelings before going. But her mouth didn't form words to tell him, and therefore the most appropriate option was to write it.
Yes, Love Letter.
Her First Love Letter.
A simple naive girl Naina has written her first love letter to her first love Sameer.
When she was done with writing the notes, she thought of writing a letter to him. She hastily finds a paper and pen and starts to write.
She folded the letter and kept it in her bag. And the next day in the library when she finished teaching Sameer, and he turned to pick something from the bag she put this letter in that notes copy.
She prayed to God to let this letter be read by Sameer because it's his right to know about her feelings.
Her trance was broken by a tea-vendor passing by "Madam, chai lengi?"
She looked at him and noticed the surroundings and realised that one hour had passed and she was sitting looking at the window lost in her thoughts.
"Jee bhaiya de dijiye.." she replied smiling.
She paid the amount and sat there sipping tea.
After the tea she gave a glance at her watch. Still 5 hours to go. She will reach by 5pm.
It was the last week of february, and the actual summer was yet to come. The Half Year Examination of PVKM was due in a month.
Sameer was fully concentrated on his studies, by the day she gave him confidence and the notes. He came back from school and started studying.
Only Munna Pandit knew about that library incident which Sameer told them that day in the canteen.
They were surprised to see him studying because of the motivation given by the mere girl, Behenji of the school.
Nanu was also shocked and was eager to know who had cast this spell on his grandson, but was happy by the change.
Naina reached Jaipur by 6.10 pm. The train was as usual late. She took her one suitcase and descended from the train with satisfaction in her eyes. She had done her lunch in the train itself which was prepared by her beloved chachiji. She walked towards the exit of the station, took an auto and asked the driver to move to the bus stop.
Banasthali University, located about 80 kilometres from the capital city of Jaipur, in the Tonk district of Rajasthan, India. It was one of the best universities in India.
The bus reached the university by 8.30 pm.
The campus has been broadly divided into the school division, the University division and the residential blocks. It was a forward and broad-minded university in terms of society.
The residential blocks were divided into two parts. One consisted of normal rooms which was named Block A where girls and boys hostels were in different sections and the other was Block B consisted of much more good quality rooms, with more facilities. Also, it does not have different sections for girls and boys. Rooms were in the same sections for both along with mess. Most of the students were from rich and high class families and therefore were not affected by these changes and welcomed these changes to go hand-in-hand with the emerging new generation.
She was surprised when the warden saw her certificate and told her to move towards the second part of the residential block i.e. Block B. Because, as per her knowledge, the students which were admitted by merit in this university, were alloted in normal rooms.
Shrugging off her thoughts, she asked the warden to send her rest of the stuff to her room which is going to come in some time.
She took her luggage and moved forward to start her new life in this school. She took a deep breath and entered the school. There was a corridor which led to the stairs. She eyed her pass which reads Room no. 208. Means almost the last room on the second floor.
In the ground floor, there were some facility rooms like medical rooms and receptionist and admission offices along with the mess.
She started ascending the stairs and reached the floor. She was surprised to see the boys and girls moving freely in the corridor without any hesitation unlike her school PVKM.
She thought not to befriend any boy or she will be strangled to death by her Taiji.
As she noticed, the floors consisted of different areas for girls and boys. Right side was of boys which contained boys' rooms and the left side were girls' rooms. There were 20 rooms on the floor. 201 to 210 were of girls' and 211 to 220 were allocated to boys. She got to know there were 3 floors in this block and the same allocation was there on every floor.
Walking through the corridor of the girl's area, she came to know one thing, there were 5 rooms on each side. All the rooms with even numbers were on the right side and all with odd numbers were on the left side. The rooms were just opposite to each other. There was a medium gap between the rooms.
She came across her room, took out the key which the warden gave her and unlocked the door.
Her eyes plopped out of her sockets by seeing the room. It seemed that she came into a hotel room of a five star hotel.
A more-than-single-sized-bed where two persons can sleep hugging each other. She slapped her head at her thoughts. She put her luggage inside and sat on the bed grazing the bedsheets which were very soft and fluffy. A single sofa on the right side of the bed with a small tea-table. A pair of cupboards in front of the bed. There was a study table beside the bed on its left side. A lamp was placed on it and a small library above it for keeping books. On the other side of the wardrobe, there was a lavish bathroom. A broad balcony beside the study table, with a serene and beautiful view, was a cherry on the top of a cake for Naina.
Overall she was over-satisfied with the room.
She gave a look to the wall clock present above the bed. It was 9.15 pm, dinner time.
She freshened up quickly when someone knocked at her door, after opening the door she saw a lady with her bags. She thanked the lady and stepped out of the room to have her dinner after keeping the bags inside the room.
The mess was on the ground floor. She locked her room and moved out to the ground floor. The mess was for all the students in the residential block. It was a big area with all food on tables like a buffet system. The single dining tables were present to eat but at the other corner there were round dining tables for the groups of students. Some were for the two-persons too.
She moved towards the single side and started eating.
She noticed that all the students were very mixed up with each other, especially girls and boys. There was no hesitation for girls to sit, talk or eat with boys.
Is it normal here?
If yes then why not in our place?
The thought crossed her mind.
How easy could it have been for her to talk and spend time with Sameer if these things were normal in her school at Ahmedabad.
Sameer.
He is not even leaving her thoughts and she is looking forward to leave him and forget him.
It is becoming difficult for her to forget his thoughts. Then how will she forget him?
He is distracting her everywhere without being present there, then what would have happened if he was present there?
Sameer in Banasthali?
Not possible, at least not in this life..
She chuckled at how her thoughts wandered in different directions and finally turned to Sameer. Before she could think of something else, she gave a full stop to it.
After finishing her dinner she left for her room. She was going to her room when bumped into a group of girls.
"I am sorry.." apologised Naina.
"What sorry?...Dekh Kar nahi chal sakti kya?" A girl from the group spoke.
Before Naina could reply to her, a voice fell into their ears. "Dekhkar to tu bhi chal sakti thi..Aankhein to teri bhi hai..." All eyes of the group went to the girl who interrupted their dominance.
Hearing the voice Naina turned around and saw a Girl with her beautiful and fiery eyes standing there wearing a denim dangri a little shorter than any ankle length jeans, and was glaring at the group of the girls. She was coming towards them walking slowly.
"Hai na..?" She asked innocently, blinking her eyes.
"Tum bich main mat bolo Khushi.."
"Khushboo...Khushboo Kaur Naam hai mera....'' She spoke with full confidence.
"Am I Clear or..Am I Clear?" She completed it with a fake smile on her beautiful face.
"Ye aa gayi yaha par isliye tum bach gayi...warna.." A girl from the group glared at Naina.
Khushi replied in a loud voice "Warna kya kar logi tum?" Before she could say more the group of girls left from there.
"Thank you Khushboo...but tumhe unse iss tarah baat nahi karni chahiye thi.." Naina smiled gratefully at her.
"Pehli baat...Khushboo main sirf bahar walo ke liye apne friends ke liye main only Khushi.." She forwards her hand in front of Naina with a smile on her face "So Friends..?"
She reciprocated smilingly and nodded "Friends.."
"Your name..beautiful lady..?" Khushi asked, taking Naina's hand in hers and bowing down.
She chuckled and replied "Naina...Naina Aggarwal"
"Your name is as beautiful as your eyes Miss. Naina" Khushi praised whole-heartedly.
"Thank you Miss Khushi" Naina replied in the same tone and both fell into splits of laughter.
"Haan to Naina ji...aapko aisa kyu lagta hai ki mujhe unse iss tarah baat nahi karni chahiye thi?" Khushi asked.
"Wo..wo.." Naina doesn't know what to reply.
Khushi interrupted "Dekho Naina...tumhe bhi pata hai aur mujhe bhi galti sirf tumhari nahi unki bhi thi...sorry unko bhi bolna chahiye tha tumhare saath saath..wo log tumhara sorry acknowledge karne ke bajay tumhe daant rahe the aur tum khadi khadi sun rahi thi...now that's the biggest fault of you here..aur maine reply dekar kya galat kar diya jo tumhe karna chahiye tha.."
"Haan Par.."
"Par kya Naina? Galat ka saath dene wale bhi galat hi hote hai...aur tumhe dekhkar to lag raha hai ki koi tumhe kuch bhi bolkar jata hoga aur tum sunti hogi...Nahi?" Khushi asked, raising her eyebrows.
"Haan...matlab nahi...matlab.." Naina stuttered badly.
"Samajh gaya mujhe. Main bas itna Keh rahi ki tumhe khud apna stand lena chahiye..aur.."
Before she could complete Naina interrupted "Shant Gadhadhari bheem Shaant..Aage se jaisa tum kahogi waisa karungi..bass.."
Khushi was amused then chuckled at her words. "Ye kya tha?"
"Preeti bhi aisa hi bolti thi jab main use padhai ke baare main lecture deti thi..jaise tum mujhe de rahi ho..." She smilingly reminisced how after every bad result scored by Preeti turn her into 'Naina Devi mode' as said by her and she used to give her long monologues of lecture stating how she should study and all when at last after bearing so much of her she always used this statement to free herself from 'Naina Devi'.
"Chachiji, aaj ganit ki pariksha ka result aa gaya." Informed Naina shouting happily by entering into the Aggarwal Nivas, with a frustrated Preeti by her side.
"Achha, bata kaisa aaya tera result?" Chachiji asked. "Main bhi kisse puch rahi..Meri Naina to hamesha pratham aati class main'' She cupped her face and kissed the forehead of a smiling Naina.
Naina never fell devoid of a mother's love by always having a mother-like-chachiji by her side.
She showed her answer sheet to chachiji where the marks scored by her were written with an encouraging 'very good'.
"Wah! Iss baar to Bees main se Unnis number aaye hai..tere Chachaji ye dekh kar bahut khush ho jayenge" said chachiji ecstatically.
"Aur preeti tere kitne aaye?" Chachiji asked suspiciously.
"Mere...mere aaye hai na...achhe aaye hai..matlab aaye honge...maine na dekha nahi hai..main abhi dekhkar batati hu.." answered preeti acting unaware of her marks.
"Aise kaise nahi pata..dekhe nahi tune paper milne ke baad..dikha mujhe" responded Naina chasing her for paper.
"Nahi dikhane mujhe...tujhe achhe aaye na...mere pichhe kyu padi hai..." Preeti said frustratingly as they reached their room.
"Kyu nahi dikhane...chal dikha mujhe..." Naina forcibly snatches her bag and takes out the paper.
"Kyaa...Bees main se sirf Saat Mark aaye hai?" Screamed Naina shockingly. "Kitni baar tujhe bola hai ki padhai kar liya kr..meri sunti bhi hai kabhi..aadhe number to la leti..fail hote hote bachi hai..Chachaji aur Chachiji ko kitna bura lagega jaan kar.." At last worry washed her face.
"Kuch nahi lagega Mummy Papa ko..Main Saat ke aage ek lagakar satra dikha dungi" There was no trace of sadness in her tone.
"Tu jhooth bolegi unse?" Her eyes widened.
"Haan...Aur tujhe bhi mera saath dena hai...aur kuch nahi..bas chup reh jana unke Saamne..." Preeti follows Naina to her wardrobe, while she takes out her clothes for changing.
"Na..Baba na..main kuch nahi karungi...mujhse jhoot nahi bola jata.." She goes to the washroom to change.
"Jhoot bolne kaun bol raha..bas sach batane ko mana kar rahi main.." She banged the door of the washroom.
"NAHI.." Was the only reply which upsets Preeti.
As she came out Preeti pleaded "Please Naina..Tu Meri behen hai na..apni behen ke liye itna to kar hi sakti hai..".
But who can convince Naina Devi?
"Nahi..matlab Nahi.. Main jhoot nahi bolungi" The same reply.
"Thike..main akele hi sab kar lungi." Preeti voiced out in her failed attempt.
Naina sat down to revise her class work in her study table and Preeti sat in the bed for her Marks-Badhao-mission.
"Achha Sun..Ab kar hi rahi hai toh ink pen se nahi Ball pen se karna..teacher ne bhi Paper ball pen se check kiya hai..." Said Naina.
"Wahh..Behen..Tu jhooth bolti to nahi hai...But agar bolegi to bahut Safai se bolegi" Preeti Backhugs Naina happily.
"Hawa..Aane De..Ye aakhri baar hai..thike.."
"Haan..Haan.."
She chuckled remembering her and Preeti's talks and antics. Her eyes misted.
Khushi asked a little amused "Preeti kaun...?"
"Meri Chachaji ki beti...par meri sagi behen se bhi jyaada badhakar.. mera dil..meri Jaan...mera sab kuch..." She told her while her eyes were watering.
Khushi wiped her unshed tears and said smilingly, "I promise...yaha par tumhe uski jyada yaad nahi aayegi.."
Naina finally smiled in gratification, and pulled her tightly in an embrace.
Later in her room she thought about the incident that there was a time when she hated lying and could not tolerate a single lie in front of her, even if it was her sister.
But Now she had told lies, only for Sameer, Her Sameer.
Her first lie was also about him and for him. She smiled, reminiscing about that cigarette incident.
Her First Lie.
All the students of Pragati Vidya Ka Mandir were present in the assembly hall listening to the never ending speech of their Principal sir when the main point came out. The inspections were to be made by the government teachers and if all would be perfect, the school would get a donation for its development.
As the teachers entered into the science lab of the school, the allotted students stood in their places and described the lab. But suddenly a spark fell into a solution and the fire was spread in no time in that area of the lab. A burning cigarette was found in that area which has come flying out of the window of the science lab.
Naina was standing right outside the window of the lab from where the fire intruded. And she knew the culprit.
"Kya tumne kisi ko ye cigarette peete ya fekte dekha tha waha?" This was the question which was asked to her by Principal Sir.
Yes. She had seen Sameer blowing a cigarette with his friends on the terrace and then he threw it in the air which landed in the science lab through the window.
She was once again in the dilemma of playing the role of Monitor Naina or Lover Naina. Last time when she was in the question of the same person in the same situation and for the same person she had decided to play her duty first.
But not this time!
She glanced at Sameer and answered "Nahi sir. Maine waha kisiko nahi dekha". She cannot afford Sameer being rusticated out of school even if he was at fault.
Yes. Love changes people just like it did to her.
The pure, naive, non-liar Naina lied for the first time, just for Him.
Her lips moved upwards remembering the relaxed smile on Sameer's face when she didn't reveal his name in front of the Principal and the way his face was relaxed she cannot do anything but admire him.
