people are not lying when they say college makes or breaks you.

it makes or breaks a lot more than that, though.

you, obviously.

your blind optimism.

your habits.

your relationships.

your self-worth.

college redefines who you are. it also redefines what you want in your life, and who you want in your life.

i have lost touch with and fallen out with a few people since going to college and every single one of them, i have come to realize, were all people that either never did me any good at all, or never really had a real deep connection with me.

college will also break your heart. numerous times.

unlike high school, however, your exes can mostly disappear from your life.

take this as a saving grace, even though it will sting the first time you notice they have removed you from their entire life without blinking an eye.

you will eventually get used to it.

college will also introduce you to and fundamentally root you to the people who will be with you for the rest of your life.

in a year i can say i've made some of the most genuine and caring friends i will ever have in my entire lifetime, and i love each and every one of them.

college is... more than just higher education, or being one LSD trip too many away from being a certified crackhead, or sleeping with every girl on the dorm floor below you.

college is the gateway to who you're going to be, and to the life, you are eventually going to lead.

but yeah,

it is going to hurt like a bitch getting there.
