➳ Chapter 1 ➳

Vickey Niles

I felt the cold wind brush against my skin as I watched the clear Moon shine upon the peaceful yet quiet Forest, "Why can't I be bright as the Moon?" I asked myself throwing a pebble at the lake as it bounces a few times before sinking into the water.

What made me question myself was that I felt incomplete for a reason I can't think of.

I usually sneak out at night to head towards the forest to get some fresh air and some peace since my siblings aren't what you call "friendly" or "kind" either.

They sometimes get frustrated over small things such as food, toys, and even socks. Talk about anger Issues... but what can I say when I get angry over other childish stuff.

At least when the moon shines upon me I feel like all my problems are gone for a short period.

Despite that, I often have a weird feeling whenever the moon is complete, like the urge for blood, and as if something inside me wants to escape and take over me... as if there's a beast inside me waiting to go out.

I felt like it was already late so I headed back home, I walked home since it would only take a few minutes to reach it from here.

But when I was halfway home, I suddenly stopped.

As If my body just forced me to not move as if all my muscles died, I was still like a statue...when I saw something I never thought could exist in this world.

WereWolf.

Considering how much I wanted to run and scream for help, I didn't because according to the stories I've been told these creatures are twice as fast as a human.

So thinking of running would be a death wish for me, and screaming for help would be even worse. So only faith can decide if I should live or die.

I stood staring at what possibly be the reason I'd disappear right now...staring at his red, evil eyes.

His teeth looked like it could rip through my skin in a bite and maybe even metal so fighting it and winning would be impossible since I was barehanded.

The creature just stared at me with his bloodshot eyes and bloodthirsty mouth until he stepped out of the darkness and into the light of the Moon.

I can now see his fur, sharp claws, and even his feet.

He stood there looking deep into my soul as he took small steps towards me, and most people would have done something by now but no.

I stood there letting him get closer and closer...at this point, I could literally smell the creature's breath, It smells like my brother's cooking... I thought to myself.

I thought this was the end as I tightly shut my eyes waiting to receive the pain that's until minutes passed by and I was still alive and breathing.

I decided to slowly open my eyes hoping this was all a nightmare...but It wasn't because I could feel something sniffing the back of my collar.

I stared directly straight at the tree which was in front me hoping the beast would stop...and he did? That's what I thought at least since I no longer felt the presence of the beast.

I quickly turned around hoping there was a tree and not an 8-foot monster and there wasn't! I took this as an advantage and ran which I felt was the way home.

I ran and ran as fast as I could, hoping nothing was chasing me.

Once I reached my home, I quickly knocked the door, well banging it actually where I didn't even notice my older brother Nathan swung open the door open with a butcher knife in his left hand, "What's with the knife!" I shouted at him taking a few steps back.

"Well, obviously you could have been a thief breaking in like it's 1 in the morning! Who would be banging on our front door at this time?" He shouted back causing me to mentally facepalm myself.

He then rolled his eyes as he turned his direction and went towards his bedroom, "Good night I guess." I mumbled, I quietly tiptoed towards my room hoping to not wake up my parents especially my mother since she would probably kill me.

When I was just a step away, I saw my 6-year-old sister Amanda come out of my parent's room scratching her eyes.

I signaled her to keep quiet which just made it worst since she started copying what I did, "Be quiet Amanda, go back to sle-"I couldn't finish my sentence when I heard a yawn from my parent's room.

I panicked and gently pushed her to the room hoping they don't wake up.

Afterwards, I quietly half ran to my room and threw myself into bed leaving the door slightly opened, "Geez...What a Day..." I mumbled rethinking what happened today.

Looks like I'm not going back there anytime soon... I thought to myself as I slowly shut my eyes and went to rest.

The next morning

"Wake up or else, I will pour a bucket of water on your big head!" A loud voice shouted making my eyes go wide open.

I was in such an uncomfortable position that marks were everywhere on my face, I stroked my eyes and opened them to reveal my Annoying young brother, Peter.

He threw a pillow at me which I ignored since I got used to being annoyed by him, "Haha! You look like a Psycho!" Peter shouted pointing at my left cheek, I grabbed a small mirror and yes I did look like a Psycho.

I stood up and made my way to the Living Room where I found my Parents discussing who knows what.

But the smell of food distracted me coming from the kitchen Guessing it was my brother Nathan since he knew how to cook really well.

Better than me at least. I'd probably have burnt down the whole house if I ever cooked. The thought of me cooking let out a quiet laugh.

I tried my best to sit down on a coach without being noticed by pretending I didn't see my parents but that just made me even more suspicious, "Vick, Do you think we wouldn't notice you?" A sweet yet intimidating voice said.

I turned my head to see my mother's eyes locked on me, "Me, ignore you guys? No..." I nervously answered, "Well then, take a seat beside your Father.

Hearing the word 'Father' shivers my spine since the person I call Father isn't My Real Father but my Step.

I nervously and slowly walked up to the seat nearest to him and slowly sat down as sweat flowed down from my throat to my stomach, "Good Morning..Father.." I stuttered, "Mornin, Son." He replied with a smile.

My step Father has always been kind to me but I knew it was all fake since he only cared about Sarah my Mother and not her children such as me.

But I've always wondered where my actual dad was all these years, and the last time I saw him was 9 years ago when I was 7 and he magically disappeared and probably is dead by now according to my Mom, But I never believed her since my Dad always loved me and hearing my Mother say he was dead just hurt.

You see one night my father told me good night like every usual day but he for some strange reason he didn't greet me the next morning which was unusual of him. And then weeks passed by, then months, then years which made me doubt if he would ever come back.

But I knew someday he would, and if he does come back I'm going to kill him for leaving us and making me live with this guy Arnold  his not even that fit plus he smells, he just eats, eats, and eats until he passes out.

"Vickey don't you agree?" A voice called my name causing me to snap out on whatever I was thinking about, "Uh..I need to get some air." I said as I stood up and half ran and half walked to the Door.

"Finally some fresh air and peace." I took a deep breath and sat on a bench just outside the house and almost to the forest.

I didn't dare even to look at the forest since it just reminds me what happened.

But for some reason, I felt like I needed to look even tho I didn't want too, But something within me forced me too.

And as I did, I regretted it.

There were 2 red eyes and a dark figure staring at me from a distance just beside a tall Tree covering it with the tree's shadow. What made me horrified was...

My body forced me to head towards the forest, and directly to the beast.
