The Constellation Car

Mabel and Waddles had escaped Evol's hellish game show, nearly escaping with their lives. It took a while to process the event they witnessed, but they decided to conclude that forgiving and forgetting was their best option. Afterward, they continued to go through the train cars, eventually stumbling upon another competitive feat.

"DON'T START UNBELIEVING!" Mabel and Waddles sang loudly on a stage next to a karaoke machine, "Never don't not feel your feelings!"

"I'm gonna do a flip!" Mabel exclaimed recklessly, preparing herself physically with a huge grin on her face before Waddles quickly stepped up in front of her. "I don't think that's the best idea."

"Aww..." Mabel pouted, "Oh well, hope you guys enjoyed that!" She waved at the cactus-like people in the audience. They all sat at dining tables, staring blanking at Mabel with disbelief after whatever it was they just watched. "Thank you, everyone, and good night!" she exclaimed proudly with a bow before dropping the mic as she exited the stage with Waddles.

"That was fun!" Mabel proclaimed eagerly as the two met the door and opened it, "I can't wait for what's next!"

Waddles yawned and smacked his lips, "If anything, I could really go for a nap."

"Whaaat? Nooo... How could you even be," she paused for a second to let out a huge yawn, exerting her arms to stretch, "Tired?" she asked, clearly tired.

"Uh huh," Waddles nodded, obviously not believing her, "But whatever the next car is, whether it's filled with pillows or fire-breathing dragons, I'm going to take a nap."

"Booooo!" Mabel remarked while rubbing her eyes tiredly. The two had crossed over the bridge to the next car, the passenger opening the door to let them through. They entered and found a sparkly environment, completely surrounded by a beautiful night sky. The stars were shining bright and the wind sang blissfully as it passed a gentle breeze. The luminescent moon was full and calming, giving off a clear sign of what the two who stumbled upon this setting should do.

"I'm not tired!" Mabel whined, stomping her foot on the ground, after getting the hint, "Why do you do this to me train?!"

Waddles chuckled and kept walking, finding a comfortable spot to lie down. "I'd advise you to sleep but you can do whatever you want, as long as it doesn't keep me up."

Mabel watched as he curled up on a small patch of grass, closing his eyes. She couldn't help but take notice of how comfortable he looked and couldn't ignore how peaceful the moment was. She sighed with defeat and approached the spot her companion found. She sat next to him, surprised to feel how soft the ground was, and lay on her back.

Her eyes widened when her eyes met the stars above her. She doesn't know much about astronomy like her brother does, but there was no mistaking the constellation that shone brightly at her. Seeing it gave a bittersweet feeling that Mabel couldn't hide.

Waddles could sense something was upsetting the brunette, opening one of his eyes to find a small frown on her face, and he was not one to let his only friend down. "What's on your mind, Mabel?"

She continued to stare up at the sky, sighing, "Just thinking about Dipper."

"Just, out of curiosity," Waddles wondered aloud, "What kind of name is Dipper anyways?"

Mabel giggled, "Yeah, it does sound a bit silly at first. But it's not his real name."

"It's not?"

She shook her head. "No. It's a nickname he gave himself after reading a book, and it sorta just stuck. I like it though, I think it suits him."

"Ah, I see," he nodded, "So he just thought the name in his book was cool, or...?"

"Not exactly," she corrected, "First, I should mention that my brother has a unique birthmark on his forehead, like, a very noticeable one if he's not hiding it under his bangs. And, you see, the book he was reading was one of his nerd books about the stars. Then he came across the page about the constellations and found out about-"

"The Big Dipper!" Waddles finished her sentence while looking at the constellation above them, putting two and two together, "That makes so much sense now! And here I thought your parents just hated him or something."

Mabel chuckled and nodded, "Yeah, that's why being here brought up the thought." She brought her eyes back to the constellation and sighed, "I don't know if this place freezes time or whatever so when I go back nothing's happened, or the time has passed while I've been here; I just really hope it hasn't been so long that he, or any of my friends, has forgotten about me."

"I seriously doubt anyone would forget someone as crazy memorable as you." Waddles noted.

Mabel chuckled and turned her head to send a soft smile, "Thanks."

Waddles smiled back, happy to see her cheered back up. "Happy to help." He let out a wide yawn and attempted to scratch behind his ear, his stubby legs making it hard to reach the spot.

Mabel noticed him struggling and leaned it to assist him. She helped him get the scratch, watching Waddles enjoy the touch, and giggled, "You make a great pig."

"Don't think about it too much," he mumbled tiredly as his eyes started drifting off to sleep.

Mabel smiled and pulled her hand back. "Good night, Waddles," she whispered quietly. Though it was faint, she saw a smile grow on her friend's face and heard a faint muttering, "Night, Mabel."

She smiled and returned to lie on her back, facing the sky above her. Mabel rose her arm and traced The Big Dipper constellation in front of her. She rubbed her eyes which were starting to fall, her mind also drifting off into a memory she hadn't thought about in a long time.

Dipper and Mabel were five at the time, coming back from their first day of kindergarten. While Mabel had a great time making friends and drowning herself in glitter, Dipper was teased all day because of his birthmark. His hair wasn't as long as it is now, so it couldn't cover his forehead.

Once the twins got home, Dipper rushed to their room, slamming the door shut; clearly wanting to be left alone. Mabel watched him run off and frowned. She wasn't around him at school that day to witness what happened, but she could tell that something was wrong.

She went over to their room and knocked on the door, trying to get his attention, "Masy?"

"Not now, Mabel!" he shouted, his voice breaking in between sobs.

Mabel frowned and sighed, opening the door anyway. She found Dipper curled up on his bed, hugging his knees and hiding his face. Without a request, she sat down next to him and wrapped him in a giant hug. There was no response, but eventually, Dipper leaned in to embrace the hug. Mabel smiled softly and gently patted his back, asking, "Are yo otay?"

"No..." Dipper quietly responded, shaking his head.

Mabel nodded and gently brushed her hand through his hair to soothe him. "Do yoo wanna tell me why?"

Dipper shook his head no, not ready to share how he felt about the events that happened that day. Despite not wanting to share, Mabel was understanding and said, "It otay, yo can tell me when yoo ready," she squeezed him tight to remind him she was there, "I alway gunna be here for yoo."

Hiding it away, Dipper smiled softly, feeling the warmth and support that he needed. "Tank you, Mabs."

Mabel yawned quietly, smiling softly to herself after feeling nostalgic about the memory that crossed her mind. She mumbled, "Good night, Dipping Sauce," before her eyes shut and dozed to sleep.

The glowing number on her right hand started to change, but it did not wake the two. The scrolling eventually stopped and remained at the number "28".
