𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆. For Elijah and Emilia, the murder of their parents plagued their mind constantly. There was never a moment where they felt like they could breathe or fully enjoy life without the reminder that they were the reason their parents were dead. Their minds flashed constantly with the blood that sprayed onto their bodies as they slashed their parents chests open. When it first happened, they had pushed it into the back of their minds and ignored what had happened. For the first few months after it happened, they believed what they had been told, that it was an animal. An animal had broken into their house and killed them while the kids were sleeping, that's what they were told by police that evening after finding their parents laying lifelessly on the ground by the stairs.

The memories of the night started coming back to them after their tenth birthday, and they haven't stopped coming back since. The twins had nightmares almost nightly due to the resurfacing of their memories. They truly hated themselves for what they did to their parents, but they also knew and understood that it wasn't their fault, for the most part. They couldn't have prevented anything that happened that night considering they didn't even know what a werewolf was outside of the myth. Either way, their parents would have died trying to save them or died trying to save themselves. That part is what hurt Emilia most. She couldn't live with the fact that her parents risked their lives to save their kids from themselves. If she was being honest, the twins probably wouldn't be there if their parents hadn't been there to risk their lives.

Eli spent almost every night staring at his bedroom ceiling, the insomnia medication not helping him at all. The moment his eyes would slip shut, he would be reminded of the night he pushed so far back in his mind, you would think he wouldn't remember a thing. Yet he remembers every single detail from that night. The way his sisters blood curdling scream entered his ears as she was attacked by whatever had found them in the woods that dark and foggy night. He remembered his own scream, a scream that made his throat raspy by the end of it because it was so loud. The pain was what he remembered most. He remembers how the wolf bit into his skin, the wolf bit down hard into the boys side with its canines reaching deep into his side. Blood instantly started falling and Eli immediately fell to the ground in pain. He wasn't able to think straight he was in so much pain. At the time, he wasn't sure what to do but he made sure to quickly recover, although still in pain, and get his sister out of there. He could protect himself if he was alone, but he needed his sister safe.

"Eli, are you up?" a voice said from outside Eli's bedroom door, bringing him back to reality and out of his thoughts

"yeah, you can come in," Eli replied, knowing Mila also didn't want to fall asleep due to the nightmares

"trouble sleeping?" He asked as she walked over to his bed and climbed in beside him, leaning her head on his shoulder, something she did whenever she needed comfort

"always, I hate having to live like this," she mumbled, trying to stay quiet knowing her dad was asleep across the hall

"have you taken your meds? they normally help you," Eli told the girl, standing up and grabbing the spare bottle of her prescription out of his nightstand drawer

"I don't like the way they make me feel, they make me feel like I'm not alive and just there," she muttered, hating herself for getting both anxiety and ptsd after the accident.

"they'll help Mila, they always do," he told her as he handed her two pills and a bottle of water

"fine," she took the pills and quickly laid down, the medication being fast reacting

The two twins laid side by side in Eli's bed for the remainder of the night, neither one of them talking. They did what they would normally do when alone, stare at the ceiling until exhaustion took over and caused them to fall asleep. It soon fell over both of them and they fell asleep, hoping they didn't have a nightmare. Although, that wish fell through once their eyes closed, both of them instantly having a nightmare fill their mind.

Eli's eyes shot open as he woke up, looking around his room in panic. He sat up slowly and looked over at his slightly open bedroom door, confusion now filling him. He could have swore Mila closed the door when she had entered his room earlier that evening. Eli looked over and noticed his sleeping sister, not flinching or moving in her sleep like she normally did. He pushed himself up from his bed slowly and walked over to the bedroom door, opening it slowly to look out into the hallway. His eyes and mind had been playing tricks on him. He was still in a dream.

"come on guys!" a young stiles yelled for his friends, dragging them along into the woods of beacon hills

"stiles, what are we doing out here," a young Scott asked, shivering from how cold it was outside

"haven't you been listening to me? there has been a large disappearance of animals in the last few weeks. something is taking them and we are going to figure out what it is," Stiles' dorky smile was the only thing making Emilia and Elijah laugh at that hour of night.

"Stiles, my dad is going to get mad," Scott informed the boy, a nervous and anxious look on his face as he followed his friend through the woods

"you worry too much, just live a little for once Mccall," Eli joined into the conversation, tired of always hearing Scott complain when the friend group would hang out

Scott ignored Eli's comment making Eli smile a little bit. He could tell he had gotten on the boys nerves. Eli was brought back to reality when he heard stiles' high-pitched scream, causing him to flinch slightly. He turned his gaze to what Stiles was screaming at to see a small white rabbit hopping out from the bushes and across the walking path, just in front of stiles. He put his hand up to his mouth to stop himself from laughing, but failed entirely as his laugh broke through as he burst out laughing at his friend.

"shut up, you would have done the same thing," Stiles glared at his friend before leading them further along the path into where the disappearance of animals has been taking place

There had been a large pile of blood where stiles had said the animals had been taken from. Eli felt a chill run over him as he bent down to examine the blood closely. It had been dried but there was a patch of fresh blood a few meters away. He stood up and walked closer, Mila following behind him just incase something jumped out and grabbed them, she did have some imagination. She grabbed a hold of his arm as they examined the blood, not noticing that their friends had ditched them and something was coming up from behind them to attack.

"this blood is fresher than the blood over there, write that down sti-" Eli cut himself off right after he turned around to face the friends that were no longer there

"where'd they go Mila, they were here with you" he asked his sister, not noticing the fear in her eyes as she looked up at the bushes, seeing two red eyes looking back at her.

"Run" she whispered as she grabbed his wrist and pulled him with her, the two running away from the danger following them

They didn't make it far though because the wolf attacked them from behind, biting Mila on her back and Eli on his left side. The twins fell to the ground in pain instantly, the wolf making deep wounds in their back and side. Mila started crying as she held her back in pain, blood seeping onto her hands. Eli was in a lot of pain, but his focus was on his sister and getting her out of there. He crawled over to her and picked her up, tossing her arm around his neck as he dragged them out of the woods. If the wolf came back, they needed to be out of sight. It took a while, but they made it back to the road. Eli carried his barely conscious sister along the road, his sight going in and out of focus. All of a sudden, he saw a set of headlights coming over the hill in front of them and took the rest of his strength to wave them down. The car pulled to a stop beside them and helped them in, knowing they needed to get to the hospital based off of the state they were in.

"please help us," was the last thing Eli said before he let the darkness take over

A scream was the only thing that brought Eli back to reality, pulling him out of his dream. It wasn't just his sisters scream though, his scream also sounded through the walls of the Forbes household.

Emilia was used to the nightmares that filled her mind every night, so seeing her parents murder on replay every night wasn't that shocking anymore. Although, it still scared her and it still made her panic every time she saw it happen. The nightmare that night had been the worst one she's had in a while and it was truly scaring her.

"mama," mila cried out as she fell to the floor in her shared bedroom, Eli doing the same thing

"what's happening," her mother questioned as she ran into her daughters bedroom, concern written all over her face at her children being in pain

"it hurts, it really hurts" Mila replied as she grabbed her head in pain, the noises around her being too much

"Ethan!" Emily yelled for her husband as she wrapped Mila in a hug, not knowing how to comfort her daughter

"mil, what's wrong?" Ethan asked his wife as he entered the twins bedroom, going to his son that was laying on the ground, almost unconscious from the amount of pain he was in

"I have no idea, we need to get them to the hospital," Emily answered, truly not knowing how to help her kids without the hospital

"okay, let's get them downstairs and then you get a bag ready while I get the car," Ethan said as he picked Eli up off of the ground and rushed down the stairs behind his wife, who was carrying a crying Mila on her back.

The twins were laid down on the couch by their parents, but they didn't stay there long. Mila fell to the ground in pain, not noticing the growing nails on her hands. She grimaced in pain as she lifted her hand up to her mouth, feeling a sharp and agonizing pain in her mouth all of a sudden. Within seconds, the girl had been transformed, her eyes glowing bright yellow as she dragged her claws across the floor, making scratch marks from where she had been sitting to where she was now beside her brother. His glowing yellow eyes met her yellow ones, and instantly the old verleess family was gone. The twins would never be the same and the parents had no idea what was getting ready to happen to them.

"Eli, mila, lets g...." Ethan was cut off by something tackling him to the ground, making puncture wounds across his chest from where their claws now dug

The scream is what brought Emily downstairs. She had been packing their bag and all of a sudden, a loud scream and yell was heard. Not knowing what was going on and thinking something was happening to her kids, she rushed downstairs. Within seconds of making it downstairs, she found her dying husband laying on the ground, the twins no longer in sight. Ethan choked on his blood as he opened his mouth to speak

"the t-twins..." was all he got out before he collapsed back against the ground and all air left his lungs, leaving a sobbing Emily over his chest. She had thought it was an animal attack and the twins were gone, not realizing the two blonde haired children standing behind her.

As Emily sobbed over her dead husband, the twins emotionless eyes stared right at her. They deepened their glare as they went in separate directions, coming from two completely different directions when attacking the emotion filled woman. If anyone had seen them in that moment, the only description they could give would be crazy and emotionless. Emily's scream was way louder than Ethan's, mostly because she was being attacked by both at the same time. The twins had been ripping her chest open and the only thing that brought them back to reality was the sound of sirens outside and the flow of blood spilling out of their mothers chest. The lifeless dead eyes of the Verleess parents stared up at the Verleess twins emotionless eyes, the Verleess family no longer being the Verleess family.

The only thing that brought Emilia out of the nightmare was not only her scream but her brothers scream, both twins waking up from their nightmare at the same time.

Elijah hated waking up early. He wasn't a morning person at all, so having to wake up early everymorning for school was not something he did well. Luckily, he was almost always up due to his nightmares and insomnia. He never truly hated school, although he said he did almost every single day. The only problem he had was waking up early and having to see Scott mccall and stiles stilinkski every second of every day. That's the benefit of being stupid, you get put in the idiot classes with idiot 1 and idiot 2. The boys were actually smart when they wanted to be but a lot of the time, they were straight up idiots. Eli wasn't stupid either, he had a high IQ but he didn't handle stress well so he took regular classes, not thinking he could handle AP classes like Lydia and Emilia.

"so the full moon is coming up," Adrien told his kids as he turned around to face them

"we'll be okay, they are getting easier to handle," Mila told her dad as she looked around the parking lot of beacon hills high

"Eli, you have lacrosse tryouts after school and Mila, I won't be able to pick you up so can you stay after and watch? I'll be here to pick you guys up after my shift," Adrien informed his kids as they grabbed their stuff to get out of the car

"yeah, love you" the twins replied as they shut the truck doors and walked over to Lydia and Jackson

"hey lyds" Mila smiled as she wrapped her arm around her best friend and pulled her into a hug

"hey Lia," the strawberry blonde smiled brightly as she returned the hug, ignoring the glare from her supposed boyfriend

"jackass," eli smiled at the nickname he had for the boy he hated

"Elijah" Jackson had the same tone of voice as he grabbed Lydia's arm and led the friend group into the school, walking right past a starstruck stiles and Scott, stiles looking at Lydia and Scott looking at Eli

"take a picture mccall, it'll last longer," Eli smirked at the boy as he walked backwards before turning back around and walking into the school

Scott's cheeks turned bright red and pink as he pulled stiles with him into the school. The boys stopped at their lockers and Scott couldn't help but become nervous at the gaze on him. Eli was glaring at him from his locker down the hall and Scott would be lying if he said he wasn't nervous around the brunette haired boy. He always had been nervous around him, recently it was just worse. It was like Stiles around Dior kendrick and Lydia Martin, he was always nervous when they were around. Dior made him more nervous though and that was evident.

"Scott, we have class, hurry up," stiles pulled the boy with him towards their classroom,

"did you see Eli," Scott asked the boy as they entered the classroom, not realizing Eli had been listening to his conversation

"it's kind of hard not to see him, the guys like 6'1" stiles replied as he took a seat in his seat next to Scott

"hey, do any of you have a pencil," Eli asked the group of students around him but the only one that answered was stiles by handing the boy a pencil, Scott and mila had their focus on a girl sitting on a bench outside of the school

"As you all know, there was indeed a body found in the woods last night." Mr.Curtis told his students as he wrote on the board. The group of students all gave each other a look, Scott looking at stiles and Eli looking at Mila.

"and I am sure your eager little minds are coming up with various macabre scenarios as to what happened. But I am here to tell you that the police have a suspect in custody, which means you can give your undivided attention to the syllabus which is on your desk outlining this semester." Mr.Curtis added before sitting down at his desk and waiting for his students to be ready to go over the syllabus.

Eli looked around the classroom and the only thing he saw was Scott and mila looking out at the girl on the bench again. She had dark brunette hair that was wavy and long, matching her pale complexion. She was digging through her bag while on the phone with someone, but Eli couldn't hear the conversation. His mind was filled with to many thoughts to be able to focus on this random girls conversation. Eli could tell Mila was listening to it though, just based on the faces she was making as she stared outside. He didn't know what Scott was doing but he kept playing with his ear as he looked outside at the same girl Mila was looking at.

"Class, this is our new student, Allison Argent. Please do your best to make her feel welcome," The schools principal said before exiting the classroom and leaving the high schoolers to just stare at the girl

Eli's heart was in the pit of his stomach after hearing her last name. Argent. The argent family was a well known family in the supernatural universe, mostly for being a hunting family that burnt down the hale home 6 years prior. The girl looked extremely nice, but all argents do at first sight. Eli looked over at his sister and all he saw was mila smiling as she looked at the girl walking over to sit behind her. He didn't know why but right as Allison sat down, Mila was holding out her pencil for the girl. He made a face at his sister before saying something

"so you'll give new girl a pencil, but not your own brother. Harsh mil, that's harsh," he playfully glared at her before looking back to see Mr.Curtis standing in front of him

"have something to share with the class, Mr.Forbes?" Mr.Curtis asked his student as he walked back to his desk, everyone now staring at the brunette haired boy

"no sir," he said quietly as he turned his head down and focused on the syllabus, trying to ignore the smiling Scott mccall staring right at him.

Emilia loved her best friends, but she would be lying if she said she didn't get fed up with them. Whenever they would walk all over Nerissa, or ris, she would stick up for her but it didn't change a single thing. Lydia Martin was a bitch and that was evident when she took a ring from Ris, a ring that meant a lot to her. Her mom gave it to her when she was little and she hasn't taken it off since, so Lydia taking it hurt her.

"It's gone, she's going to lose it and my moms going to murder me" Ris panicked as she paced around an empty classroom after school was over

"Ris, listen to me, she won't lose it. I'm going to go get the ring before she does anything with it," Mila reassured as she grabbed Ris' hand and pulled her with her to the lacrosse fields, where Lydia sat with Allison watching the lacrosse try outs

"Lydia," Mila called out to her friend as she climbed up the bleachers, earning a quick look from Lydia

"yes?" Lydia asked innocently, acting like she didn't do anything wrong, something she does all of the time

"Give me the ring," Mila demanded, knowing Lydia couldn't defend herself against a wolf

"I don't know what you're talking about," Lydia turned her focus from Mila to the lacrosse field, completely ignoring the girls standing in front of her

"Lydia, do I need to remind you that before you met me, you were absolutely nothing. Just a little strawberry blonde haired girl sitting in the corner of the classroom with zero friends. I made you, so unless you would like to be without friends again, I recommend you give me the ring," Mila leaned down into Lydias face, sick and tired of Lydia acting like she was better than everyone else when she was only known because of the Forbes twins

"fine, you don't need to be such a bitch," Lydia harshly handed the girl the ring before standing up and walking away, leaving Allison alone with Mila and Ris

"I'm sorry about her, I'm Allison," The dark haired brunette introduced before walking off, seeing her dad walking over to her

"that wasn't necessary, mil" Ris mumbled to the girl as she played with the ring on her hand

"it very much was, now go hang out at the cove with kai, you both deserve it," Mila told the blonde haired girl before walking over to join her brother, seeing as the lacrosse try outs had ended and they were going home

The cove was an angelic place for the mermaids of beacon hills. It was underground, making the only opening through a windy and dark path, which led to a stone wall. The stonewall made it so the only people that had axis to it were those who had a moon ring, which every mermaid or merman had. There was a large opening in the top of the cove for the moonlight, which would shine through and bring the water to life. There were hundreds of different kinds of crystals that trailed along the coves walls, which was what helped power the magic of the cove. Without those crystals, the mermaid population would start to die off and become extinct. Over the years, plants have also grown inside the cove, traveling along the rocks and stones in the cove walls. The moon pool, named after the fact that the moonlight is what powered it, was in the middle of the cave. The moon pool had a blue and white glow to it, making it brighter than it's natural dark blue color. The pool led to underwater caves located in the lakes of beacon hills. There is also a cave that leads to the ocean, although it's hardly ever used. The cove was where all mermaids went to find peace and get an escape from the world.

"so I saw you staring at Issac Lahey earlier in the hallway, what's up with that," Kai asked once she slipped into the magical pool, her purple swimsuit matching the now grown tail

"nothing, he's my partner for a science project, that's all" Ris tried to hide the fact that she was blushing by turning her face downward, but kai had noticed it before she could

"I knew it! You like Lahey," Kai laughed as ris shot a wave of water at her, which kai converted so it turned and shot back at ris

"you bitch," ris yelled as the two broke out into a water fight, throwing water at each other as they swam around

"just admit you like lahey and I'll stop," Kai told the girl as she stopped all of the water from being thrown

"fine, okay, I like him. He actually cares for me and doesn't walk all over me, I like that he makes me feel just as important as everyone else," ris told kai, making the girl smile at the fact that one of her best friends had a crush

"I'm so happy for you ris," kai told the girl as she wrapped her in a hug and pulled her into the corner of the pool

The two girls messed around and played for a little while longer before hearing a noise from outside the opening of the cave. They looked up and all they saw was a falling figure, a blonde girl falling from the opening at the top of the cave, into the pool. They backed up, in complete shock, and just stared right at the girl as she plummeted into the pool. The two girls looked at each other in shock, they could tell this would change their lives and this girls life forever.

So this prologue is officially the longest prologue I've ever written and I actually like it for once. It took me a while to actually decide what I wanted to do but with a lot of help from the mermaids (love yall) I was able to get it done.
