21. Nightmares Do Come True

We had paddled for days now. Then in the midst of the fog, two giant kingly statue greet us with their outstretched hands, as if telling us to stop– to turn back.

"Behold the Argonath." I heard Aragorn say from the boat ahead, "Long have I desired to look upon the kings of old. My kin."

A lump formed in my throat. This was it. Soon the Fellowship will be torn in two. I was silent the whole way, up until we reached the shore to rest at Amon Hen.

"This is the lawn of Parth Gelen. We will cross the lake by nightfall. Hide the boats and continue on foot," declared Aragorn.

"Oh, yes? It's just a simple matter of finding our way through Emyn Muil?" Gimli retorted sarcastically, "An impassable labyrinth of razor-sharp rocks! And after that, it gets even better!" I and Pippin looked at Gimli and Aragorn in alarm, as Gimli continued, "Festering, stinking marshlands as far as the eye can see!"

"That is our road." Aragorn confirmed cooly, as if what Gimli pointed out to be our path next was just like a walk in the park, "I suggest you take some rest and recover your strength, Master Dwarf."

"Recover my–?!" Gimli fumed and growled in frustration. I kept silent, aware by now that Frodo and Boromir was nowhere near us. Any minutes now.

"We should leave now." Legolas suddenly anounced flatly. His stature was tense and his eyes laser focus. His face showed no emotion as his soldier facade showed up since we were set to leave Lothlorien.

"Orcs patrol the eastern shore. We must wait for the cover of nightfall," Aragorn stated.

"It is not the eastern shore that worries me," replied Legolas grimly. "A shadow and a threat has been growing in my mind. Something draws near. I can feel it."

Make that you and me, mellon nin.

"Where's Frodo?" asked Merry suddenly.

I got up on my feet, as were the others. Alarm flashed in their eyes and all eyes turned to the spot where Frodo last sat on.

We all decided to split up to look for Frodo, and I insisted on going to look for him myself. Legolas opened his mouth to object, but I shot him my almighty-knowing-thy-fate look and he shut his mouth close.

"Be careful, Leane," said Aragorn before he disappeared behind the trees.

I looked at Legolas who shot me a worried look and said, "I will be here to meet you again soon, if I found Frodo."

He nodded and his eyes pleaded me to be careful. I nodded as I bore the image of him standing there beside the river into my mind. A foreboding feeling crept up my mind. Then I left.

I didn't think I will meet him again exactly there, because I was on my own mission: to save Boromir.

Heck yeah– I make my own fate. I didn't care even if Lady Galadriel said I couldn't save Boromir. I would still try, because that's what friends do.

I looked around frantically, searching for any sign of Boromir. I tapped into my power to find his emotions and followed it.

The sound of metal clashing came nearer and I picked up my pace, racing to find Boromir. His emotions swirled in the middle of ill, cruel intentions and hostile emotions of Uruk-hai.

I stood behind the shadow under the trees as I watched Boromir fought the Uruk-hai valiantly. I pulled my bow and arrow at ready, my eyes trained on Boromir and Merry and Pippin behind him. I shot several times at orcs who came too close to my friends, some of my shot succeed but some failed. I clenched my jaw in frustration, but kept my eyes focus.

Then a rather important looking orc bearing an authority about him came into view. My eyes widened in recognition and I set my arrow to shoot at him. I had a clear shot at him. I took a deep breath, hold it and released my arrow.

Shit! The arrow missed as it hit another orc that passed by him. I cursed internally and draw another arrow, but I saw my target pulled his bow up and an arrow of his own and my gut twisted inside me.

I made a split second before I decided to unsheath my elven sword and slashed through the crowd of orcs to get to Boromir's side.

I pushed him roughly but his feet were grounded stubbornly, to which only made him swayed a bit at my push. The arrow that was meant for him grazed my left arm. I yelped in pain but the incoming orcs pulled me out of my pained state and I fought the incoming orcs, ignoring the pain.

My hands didn't work the way it was supposed to be as my body weakened for some unknown reasons. Though feeling lethargic, I fought on still, but soon I got distracted when I saw another arrow flew by and hit Boromir square in the chest.

"NO!!!" I screamed in anger as I fought harder and channeled my anger at the orcs in front of me.

Two more arrows pierced at Boromir's chest and the Gondorian warrior was brought to his knees. I froze as everything around me seemed to be moving in a slow motion.

I failed. I couldn't save Boromir. Just like I couldn't save Grant. A sick, twisted pain struck my heart.

The sounds of the hobbits' battle cry pulled me into alertness. I slashed my sword at the incoming attack, but a sharp pain hit the back of my head and my vision blurred with pain. I found myself on the ground before a god awful smell filled my nostrils and an orc lifted me up roughly and throw me on its rotten flesh of its shoulder.

I wanted to scream and flail, but I found no strength left. I felt warm blood trickled at the sides of my face and I succumbed to unconsciousness as I heard faint, broken scream of the hobbits somewhere near me.

***

I had been awake for a few minutes now but pretended to be unconscious still. My acting skill at the moment surprised me; I didn't know I could lie so well under such circumstances.

Then I heard Pippin screamed at the orcs angrily and a sense of protectiveness filled me.

I moved my hand instantly to my hips where I hid my dagger and I hit the orc that carried me on his back.

As his body failed him, he dropped me, but I stood on my ground instantly and ran to slash on the orcs that were bullying the hobbits.

"Get away from them!" I barked as anger filled me.

The orcs growled in rage at my audacity and some of them approached to grab me but I dodged and hurt one of them instead, to which it wailed loudly as I grazed its skin with my dagger.

"Leane!" shouted one of the hobbits as a sharp pain hit my back and I fell face down to the ground and grunted.

"Loony, foolish woman!"

One of them shouted at my ears and sharp pain hit me from every direction. I screamed and grunted in pain as multiple orcs kicked me mercilessly, even stepped and kicked on my head and face.

One stepped on my right hand hard and I let out an agonized scream. He broke my thumb. I screamed in agony and cried, but their torture didn't stop. This was just as if my nightmare just came true. This was like that time in that basement with the terrorists.

For tye second time in my life, I found myself praying for death to come swiftly at me, but an orc with authority in his voice shouted angrily and made the kicking stop. But not the pain.

"Enough you fools! Saruman wants all of them alive and untouched! Fools!" he spat angrily, "Now pick the stupid woman and go! Our enemies are tracking us as we speak! MOVE!"

I didn't object as one of the orcs threw me on its back roughly. Sharp pain hit my body, especially on my chest, making it hard to breath.

We walked and walked for I didn't know how long, until the army halted to a stop. Before long, sounds of horses' feet galloping close were heard and chaos ensued.

I was dropped to the ground like a sack of potatoes and I groaned in pain. I looked around for the hobbits but before I could look any longer, I found them stopped in front of me and undo my bindings.

"Leane! Come with us! Quick!" said Pippin, I moved to get up and follow them but sharp pain hit my body. I screamed.

"I can't come with you," I finally shouted in the middle of chaos for them to hear me, "You two must go into the forest! Go!"

"Not without you!" shouted Merry fiercely.

"Look, I know this might sound crazy but I knew that this was gonna happen. Look. I didn't just appear here in Middle Earth without reason," I told Merry in particular, hoping that the smart hobbit will get me.

"You two need to enter the forest. Your fate is to enter the forest," I stated quickly, stressing my point on the last sentence, "I will be fine!"

A look of understanding graced Merry's expression; his intelligent eyes widen and he nodded.

Merry pushed Pippin who complained at us but off they went into the thick Fangorn Forest.

A dirty leather boots came into my view and a man nodded in front of me.

"My lady..." he said softly as he flinched when he saw my face. I must looked so ugly right now.

"...you are safe now," he said comfortingly. A wave of relief seeped through me and I move to get up quickly. Too quickly.

Sharp pain jolted throughout my whole being as I felt my breath taken away by it. Black spots appeared on my vision before the darkness won and blinded me.
