when hell broke lose and after he had to kill his grandfather, the main-goal of matthias was to find his son. so he rode north and west, conquering several states, being lucky that he and his two companions were alive. one day, he met a group with a few women and men and when he described his son, they told him that they might have met a teen, fitting to the discription, who is living in the sanctuary. he couldn't believe it when he found his son safe and sound in the base. immediately, negan found himself interested in the handsome man and flirted his way through him. all too pleased, matthias decided to play their little teasing game but clarified that he won't have anything with a “married man”, which made negan frustrated and even more attracted to him. matthias is jealous of negan's obsession with rick and negan is jealous of matthias' friendly behavior towards daryl when he was in prison. eventually, they bonded more emotional during their time together and grew very attached towards the other.
