Ch.6 Curses and Custodians
Previously...
'We thought it would be vital for you to know, Aster recalled that there may already be another horcrux in the vault of Bella Lestrange here in Gringotts.' Grandpa tells him.
"WHAT?!?!"

Now...
Griphook looked at us stone faced as after collecting himself from his momentary shock. "Vision?" Was all he asked.
Grandpa nodded. 'From what I understand it was giving to her for safe keeping and she had it stored here to prevent anyone from being able to access it. What better place to keep it secure than Gringotts, the most secure place in the wizarding world. Not that she knew what it was exactly other than an item of the blackest of magics.'
"How long were you sneaking behind Lily's back for young Aster to feel comfortable enough with you to be talking about their visions with you, let alone speak to you mentally with ease?" Griphook asks with a small toothy smirk.
'I can neither confirm nor deny your accusations, let alone tell you a timeframe.' Grandpa says, amused.
Griphook becomes serious again. "I'll inform the Goblin King immediately of this matter. While I don't doubt the validity of your claim, we don't know if this vision has come to fruition. Young Seers are know to sometimes have visions of possibilities rather actual events. If this vision is accurate, then we will find out. Gringotts won't take even a chance with dark artifacts, let alone a soul piece, being within our walls." Griphook states.
I look to grandpa. 'Make sure they look out for the Gemino-Flagrante curse.' I try to communicate to him.
All the occupants of the room besides my grandpa and I winced. "It seems the young one is able to use telepathy now. I understood they were highly intelligent for their age but it seems I underestimated how much so if they can communicate so clearly. Though please try to reign in the volume young Aster." Griphook says.
"Sowy." I tell him. He nods in acceptance.
"Can you tell me more about this curse. I don't recall a Gringotts approved curse of such a name used to protect vaults. It may help us prevent injuries when entering." Griphook asks.
'From what I understand it caused the items in the vault to multiply when touched by anything, but made the items burn anyone who does. Basically they would multiply until the victim is burning alive while drowning.' I explain.
"Likely a Black family curse. Their known to create ingenious, but highly dangerous dark curses and defenses," Nurse BladeBringer commented.
"I'll be sure our Curse Breakers are made aware. Do you wish to take possession of the vault should we find the soul piece? As is goblin law, you two would have some claim of it's contents as a reporting party. Even if their isn't a soul piece, you would still have claim to not only the Lestrange vault, but all vaults of the followers of Voldemort. His mark branded them as his property in the eyes of magic, meaning as your right by conquest, their lives and possessions are now yours should you claim them." Griphook explains.
I just look at Griphook. That is definitely a shocking turn of events. I honestly had no idea what to do with this information. I apparently hold the lives and livelihood of all Death Eaters. I'm too young to deal with this shit. I just lay close my eyes and lay my head on Grandpa's chest. 'Can I just leave grandpa in charge of the decision making? I'm honestly really tired, and I don't think I'm knowledgeable or old enough to know how to deal with this.' I admit.
"From my understanding, you guardian would take over the the right of your care as per the will, however their was not a custodian picked for the management of your money, property, and titles due to the lack of qualified persons for the position. Your grandfather can temporarily take charge of such matters since the will hasn't been read; however after the fact everything will be put in complete lockdown, besides your allowance, until you come of age without one." Griphook explains.
'Well you already take care of all my money, can you be custodian?' I ask.
My question is met with several gasps. The goblins all look at me in shock. Grandpa brings me up to his face. 'Do you have any idea what you have just asked?' He asks me.
I look at him in confusion. 'Umm no? Did I offend them or something? It just made sense. He already does a good job taking care of my money and keeping track of my families properties, and if my accounts close down then wouldn't that mean he was out of a job? I didn't mean to upset anyone.' I tell him.
"It's quite the opposite young Aster. Most wizards look down on goblins and so give us the minimum amount of control over their accounts in order to simply keep things running. They don't believe we are intelligent enough to take proper care of their wealth despite coming to us to protect it anyways. You wanting a goblin to not only keep track of it, but to run it is the highest sign of respect one can give us. Not only that, but your trusting him with the running of your entire monetary future until you come of age. No wizard has ever put so much trust in us." Nurse BladeBringer tells me.
'Well it's a good thing I'm a mage and slender folk. Wizards sound stupid.' I comment.
It takes moment for my comment to process before everyone starts laughing. Despite my exhaustion I do the baby version of a cackle, which sounds more like giggling, but oh well. Despite not making a sound, I can feel the amusement oozing off of my grandpa. Literally. He was leaking magic as his shoulders shook from the effort of trying to remain composed. I count that a huge win.
"I would be honored to be appointed your custodian. Since your grandfather has temporary guardianship and the will hasn't been read, we can file the paperwork after I take care of informing the king of our current predicament. I will return later with the documents so we make it official and the ministry cannot fight the decision." Griphook says before quickly leaving.
"Don't mind his quick exit. He was likely fighting to remain composed in front of you two. He's truly honored. You know how goblins don't like showing weakness, and he was trying not to embarrass himself. Would you like me to prepare a tub for young Aster? I'm quite sure they would like to be clean of any remaining residues of the ritual and their inheritance." Nurse BladeBringer says.
I was tired, but the lure of being clean was strong. I nod my head. 'You did a good job Star Flower. Let us take care of you from here on. Griphook and I will make sure you don't have to worry about anything from this point. Even if I don't get custody of you your Godmother Alice will, as she is the next to receive your Guardianship. I have already taken steps to assure she and her husband do not end up in the state you warned of should things be left to unfold on their own. So you don't need to worry about them. And while I'm limited on what I can do for Sirius, I will make sure the dog lives.' He says to me privately.
I breath a sigh of relief. Things might not end up perfect, but I know Grandpa will do his best. He never liked the Fates of this worlds plans, so he will take immense pleasure in ruining them in any way he can. Not sure what exactly he has against them, but I don't particularly care as long as they don't mess with me too much. Apparently their not as bad as others of their kind, just very meddlesome with their targets, so I count myself lucky in that sense. I've quite a few fanfictions of awful Fates and deities, so having one on the lower end of the spectrum is a blessing. It was pretty cool to find out that our universe was pretty much self-sufficient with it's own gods and laws to keep things running. The Conceptions of Chaos and Order wanted to make sure our universe didn't need any interference. Grandpa was appointed the caretaker of the balance here by them so he's actually pretty important. Apparently the most of the neighboring universes are run by a really mean Fate, so I really dodged a bullet. Definitely not stuff you normally tell to a baby as a bedtime story, but I don't really care about what would be considered normal since I'm probably one of furthest thing from it.
"The tub is ready. Are you going to bath them Blass König?" Nurse BladeBringer asked.
He nodded. 'It's best I do. I don't think my instinct will allow me to have anyone else touch them for at least a few days. And I rather not become violent with an ally when it is preventable. Can you retrieve a pair of spare clothing from the bag while I bath them? Preferably something that will allow their new tendrils to move freely since it may take some time before they are able to retract them on their own.' He replied.
The Nurse nodded. I stifle a yawn as grandpa peels my dirty cloths off and takes me to the tub. He sets me in the water, grabs a cloth set next to it, and begins to clean me. Things slowly begin to come in and out of focus as I begin to tire more. I fall asleep to the relaxing feeling of Grandpa's gentle work.
