Protection and Hope
-x- Third Person POV -x-
"Where'd he go?! That Bas-"
Iida interrupted Bakugo, pointing towards a man, hurriedly walking through the alley. "There!"
Dabi, having heard his voice, picked up the speed, but Bakugo simply narrowed his eyes before blasting towards the man. He shoved him to the ground, violently flipping him over before growling.
"Where's Deku?!" he barked.
Dabi smirked. "Bakugo, huh? Jeez, you're like a rabid dog."
"Answer!" he spat.
"Who- Ohhh," Dabi laughed, "You meant the green-haired kid." He grinned wickedly, and his eyes sparked with mischief. "Shigaraki probably dealt with him already."
The group, having caught up to an enraged Bakugo, fell in line behind him, breathing heavily.
Bakugo scowled, picking Dabi up by the collar. "I know you're lying, you son of a-"
Dabi didn't flinch, instead keeping his smirk. "Are you sure about that?"
Bakugo was startled by the man's coolness. In Bakugo's split moment of hesitation, Dabi raised his hand, forcing out an explosion of blue fire.
The blonde stumbled backwards before jumping back along with the group, watching as the blaze burned brightly. The air smelled like smoke, their skin growing dry from the dancing fire. Dabi grinned as the flames licked at his boots before spinning around, coattails flying in the wind.
Each student was too stunned to move. And, by the time the fire had disappeared, so had Dabi.
Bakugo blinked before furrowing his brows and rushing around the corner, skidding to a stop and kicking up dust. However, after looking, he was still unable to see any signs of the villain.
After a moment, he felt a pain shooting through his arm, a hiss escaping his lips. Glancing down, he noticed a burn travelling up from his hand and onto his arm. Although the injuries were minor - due to his quick escape - his hand still shook, feeling almost cold.
Bakugo cursed to himself and grabbed his arm, while Uraraka whimpered. "Do... Do you think he's telling the truth?"
"He... Can't be... Right?" Iida asked, hands trembling. "He's okay. He's always okay."
Even Todoroki looked shaken, even if he didn't voice his worry.
Bakugo heaved before standing up straight, bringing a further sense of worry to the group. "He's fine. He's a dumb Deku. And if he is dead, I'll kill him."
---
Izuku's body felt numb. He didn't have the mind to wonder if the pain had settled, or if he'd just become accustomed to it.
His head hung low, stomach growling and throat dry. His mind spun, wondering if they'd ever come back. From what he presumed, nobody had visited him in almost 3 days. It wasn't like he didn't try to escape but, after numerous attempts, he discovered that he was unable to use his quirk. In fact, he didn't feel the power running through his system at all.
Izuku felt his swollen tongue in his mouth, tears blocked from his dehydration. He whimpered, never thinking that he'd miss a group of villains so much.
However, more than anything, he felt fearful. He had lost most of his humanity, having lost hope of being rescued. I'm worthless, he told himself. They hate me. Everyone hates me. They avoided me. They hate me.
---
Bakugo banged his fist on the table they had taken a seat at. He gritted his teeth, grinding them together. It had been 4 days. 4 days since they had started looking. But nothing. Nothing at all came up.
"Bakugo...," Uraraka said softly, concerned. "Are you-"
Bakugo punched his fist against the wall behind him before sighing. "I'm fine, Round Face."
Iida furrowed his brows. "Maybe we should take a break. I want to find him, but-"
"No. I. Said. I. Was. Fine," Bakugo said through gritted teeth, startling the group. He stood, raising his head. "Let's go."
Uraraka gulped before nodding, suppressing her tears. "O-okay."
Iida sighed, standing. "But where are we going to go?"
Todoroki's eyes widened. "I might have an idea."
Each of their heads snapped towards the boy.
"Well, Icy Hot?! What is it?!" Bakugo demanded.
"Around where that guy - Dabi - came from. There's a sort of warehouse. It's a smaller one, but it's been abandoned for years, maybe decades. I used to walk by there when I was younger. I've never seen anyone go inside," he explained.
Bakugo didn't bother yelling at him for keeping his memories hidden. He began walking, confusing each of them.
"Where are you going, Bakugo?" Iida asked.
"Well," he paused for a moment, "We're not getting anywhere just sitting here. So," he turned towards Todoroki with a fiery look, "Lead the way."
---
"It's been several days now...," Yaoyorozu mentioned worriedly. "What's taking them so long?"
"Relax," Kirishima tried to calm her, although he was uneasy himself. "They'll find him. And Bakugo and Todoroki will make sure nothing goes wrong."
"And," Mina offered a concerned smile, "They have been responding to our messages, even if they're just quick replies."
Kaminari sighed, hand on his forehead. "But the teachers have been asking. How much longer are we supposed to lie? I mean, I'm running out of excuses here!"
"Not to mention, Aizawa-Sensei seems to have already caught on that we're onto something," Jiro mentioned.
Yaoyorozu glanced downwards, balling up her pants in her fist. "I'm just concerned. The pros have been searching for any signs of Midoriya anywhere, and even they haven't been able to find him. Everything's been quiet since his attack in the city. I mean...," she glanced up, teary-eyed, "If the pro heroes can't do it, what chance do we have?"
Nobody spoke. It's not like any of them could think of anything to say, anyways. A palpable tension hung in the air as the deafening silence overwhelmed them. Surely their friends would be safe, right?
---
Aizawa's gaze swept across the classroom, in which his students were sitting in an uncomfortable silence. He sighed, eyes falling downwards.
"Aizawa~Sensei," Mina raised her voice shakily, startling Aizawa. Her happy demeanor was replaced by a depressed look. Aizawa raised his head. Mina searched for her words. "Is... Is Midoriya going to... Are the pros going to find him?"
Aizawa paused for a moment before deciding to deliver the blunt truth. "I don't know." He watched as the class recoiled at his response. Looking down, he sighed once again. "I can assure you that the pros are looking everywhere. In fact," he admitted, "I haven't slept in three days." He didn't wait for the class' surprised looks. "And I'm sure some of you have already looked for him."
His students froze, exchanging awkward glances.
Aizawa raised his brows, looking over at the class. "Don't think I didn't notice the absence of four more of my students."
"He caught us...," Sero mumbled under his breath.
"Shut up!" Mina whisper-yelled, laughing nervously at Aizawa.
"It was inevitable, although irrational. And," he narrowed his eyes, causing the class to squirm, "If I had said anything, I know you'd go off and do it anyways - except more reckless behavior would entail."
Mina glanced up, still burying a squirming Sero's head into his desk. "So... You're not going to punish us or anything?"
"Oh, believe me," Aizawa said sharply, "You'll all be hearing it once everyone gets back. And," he spoke more softly, "That includes Midoriya."
