dimidium: RED MOON
Warning in order
"My.." Jiwoo walked into Matthew's room, stumbling over her words. "Matthew..."
He turned his gaze from the laptop in front of him, looked her up and down, and then turned back to the screen.
"Oh hey," he tried his best to sound cheery despite knowing she could see right through him. It's been exactly a week since the four of them started dating. There were moments where they were nervous, unsure of how they should act, moments where everything felt a bit awkward. But somehow those moments always quickly melted away. They pushed and probed each other boundaries but no matter what they did, their connection just grew stronger. It was working out much better than any of them could've ever expected. Joseph and Somin were perfect for Matthew and Jiwoo. All of them were perfect for each other. While they were together. Joseph and Somin talked about how when they were left alone and they were doing all the relationship things it somehow felt much better than it did in the past. And yet they still found themselves craving the other two. They knew it wouldn't be the same without them.
Matthew and Jiwoo have been more intimate as well, compared to before. But Matthew knew Jiwoo was quickly going to catch on the fact that he was avoiding being completely alone with her.
"Matt..." She walked further into his room and sat on his bed. He closed his laptop, turning towards her in his chair.
"Hm?"
"You've been avoiding me," she stated it like a well-known fact.
He shook his head and denied it. "What are you talking about? Why would I avoid you?"
He fidgeted slightly, playing with his fingers. "I love you," he whispered the last sentence, wanting to remind both himself and her of that fact.
"Matthew—" he avoided her eyes and she cut herself off. "No, Your Royal Majesty, prince Matthew."
BM's eyes widen hearing that title. Shocked, he looked at Jiwoo who was kneeling with one leg, her head bent.
"Jiwoo," he quickly stood up, rushing to pull her upwards. "What are you doing?"
"Your Royal Majesty, we're both aware of our true identities now," she told him.
Mathew shook his head, bewildered. "Jiwoo, you yourself are the First Knight. Plus, we're still humans and on Earth. I'm not your major here."
"Nevertheless, we have to go back soon, Your Royal Maj—" she blinked, suppressing the tears that were threatening to drop.
"Jiwoo," Matthew grabbed her shoulder, shaking her slightly to make her look up at him. "Yes, we do have to go back soon. But you know the reason why we were here in the first place."
She gave him a curt nod. He removed his hands from her and she took a big step backward.
"Yes. Let me hear it."
"Hear what?"
"Who have you chosen?"
"What?"
"Which one of us?"
"Jiwoo... What?!"
"Who is going to be the one by your side, rightfully?"
"Are you crazy?!" Matthew's expression turned angry after he realized what she was aiming at.
"Just answer me!" she demanded. "Is it Joseph or Somin?"
"Jiwoo!" he snapped. "I'm not choosing between any of you. I love all of you. Equally. You, and them as well. Plus you all love each other too!"
"So, you plan to take them both with us?" she questioned. Matthew hesitated to answer but eventually nodded affirmative.
Jiwoo felt relief wash over her. But then guilt and panic appeared.
"They... They're going to hate us!" she bit her lip.
"You can't know that."
"You know very well what we have to do."
"I do..."
They let the silence wash over them for a few moments.
"When are you planning to do it?"
Matthew let out a heavy sigh. "Father gave me till Sunday. It's the red moon then and the connection will be stronger that night. We have till dawn to do what we have to do."
"Sunday is tomorrow."
"Both of them are spending time with their families today."
"Good," Jiwoo nodded. "Are we sure they would leave them for us if they had a choice?"
"I will give them a choice. I'll try to at least."
Sunday evening, around ten o'clock, Somin and Joesph rang the doorbell.
"Hey, guys!" Matthew opened the doors, just a second later.
He led them to his room, offering drinks along the way which they gladly accepted.
Jiwoo was already waiting for them in the room and they gritted her with kisses just as they did Matthew.
"We missed you guys!"
"It's only been one day though?" Jiwoo gave Somin a weird look.
"24 hours of pure agony," Joseph pouted, hugging Jiwoo from behind and kissing her cheek.
"Here are your drinks," Matthew walked into the room. After he passed everyone their drink, he snuggled up to Somin. She started telling them a story about her cute cousins and they all just relaxed, enjoying each other's company.
About an hour and a half later, they were all slightly tipsy and much more entagled.
"Those beers sure were strong," Jiwoo noticed. Something was wrong. She never got drunk, not by such a small amount of alcohol for sure. It was one of the perks of being a literal demon from hell. But somehow she was very much affected right now. She felt drugged. Her mind knew something was wrong, she wanted to panic but she couldn't. Her body was too relaxed, too calm, and her mind couldn't focus enough to control it.
"It really was," Somin agreed, laying her head onto Joseph's chest who was sprawled on the floor.
Jiwoo was trying to stay on alert but that task was proving to harder and harder as seconds went by. She glanced at Matthew who seemed perfectly fine. She went over the events that evening but she couldn't remember seeing Matthew drink even once.
"What was in that drink?" she whispered but it was barely audible.
"What?" Somin slightly lifted her head but Jiwoo was staring at Matthew. He had a weird look in his eyes, there was a red glimmer in them. Despite knowing him in two different lives, Jiwoo has never seen that look. But before she could think more of what it meant, her vision started to swim and she felt dizzy. She grabbed her forehead, but she wasn't able to say anything, her throat was completely dry. She felt arms sneaking around her and found herself in someone's warm embrace.
Matthew glanced down at the girl in his arms. He kissed the top over her head. Somin and Joseph who weren't aware of Jiwoo's condition, looked at the two of them with admiration and love.
"I will never get enough of this," Joseph mumbled.
"I love you. All of you," Matthew said and they smiled, knowing he doesn't just throw around those words easily.
"We love you too," Somin said with a sweet smile.
"Are you sure you love me the same amount as I love you?" he asked in a hushed tone. The two sat up, intrigued by his words.
"You doubt our feelings?" Joseph challenged.
Matthew shrugged just as Jiwoo regained her full consciousness and moved slightly to the left, further from him. "I just wonder," he said. "How far would you go? What would you be willing to sacrifice for this, for us?"
Both Somin and Jiwoo had their arms somewhere on Matthew's body, basically caging him in.
"Like would we die for you?" Joseph asked, snuggling his chin onto his shoulder.
"Not necessarily die. In that sense of the word. But would you leave your current life if you had to? Would you give up everything you have here, your family, friends, and safety for us and what we have in the making right now?" he whispered into their ears.
"What kind of question is that?" Somin chuckled. "You are our family, friends, and safety. And so much more. What we have is worth fighting for. It's more than worth it," she answered, caressing his stubble chin and kissing the corner of his mouth.
"I agree," Joseph chimed in. "Nothing can compare to this feeling when we're together. If you're trying to scare us away, you better know it won't be that easy." Joseph hugged him tighter. "I don't know what made you ask these questions, but we're here for you. Believe us."
Somin pulled away, wanting to check on Jiwoo who was suspiciously quiet when something caught her eye.
"Matthew! Are you crying?!" she yelled out in panic. All three of them saw the tear just a second before he wiped it away. He locked eyes with Jiwoo who gave him a small nod, knowing that it was time and what they had to do.
"I just love you so much," he said in a sad tone.
"We both do," Jiwoo added, shifting Somin's and Joseph's attention onto herself. She hugged both of them, tears spilling from her eyes as well. "So, so very much. Never doubt it."
"Why would we dou—" Joseph's question got cut off by his loud scream. "Joesph?!" Somin tried to push Jiwoo to check on their boyfriend but the girl just held her tighter, with almost inhuman strength.
"Jiwoo, what are you—" she tried to move, still hearing desperate grunts coming from Joseph. A second after, her screams joined his.
"I'm so, so sorry, please forgive me," Matthew cried. He offered Jiwoo a knife but she shook her head still hugging now unmoving bodies of Joseph and Somin. "I can't." Her voice and whole body shook. "You do it."
"See you on the other side," he muttered, pushing the knife into her chest with both hands. He saw the life leave her eyes as blood spilled from her lips and she fell backward along with two bodies that had knives in their backs.
The red moon shined brightly as Matthew pulled out the knife from Jiwoo's chest and while murmuring something turned the already bloody tip towards himself.
For months after that, the news and other media were constantly mentioning the tragedy of four lovers:
The mysterious death of four friends, now famously dubbed the red moon case, is still shaking the public. As you probably know, last Sunday, around midnight during the rare red moon, four young adults lost their life. Kim Taehyung, Jeon Jiwoo, Jeon Somin, and Kim Woojin, the son of former vice prime minister were found dead in his house. All four had stab wounds, but the scene makes it hard to determine if it was a group suicide or a cold-blooded murder by one of the four. The murderer could still be on the loose, but for now, the police still isn't giving much information to the public. We have a few experts with us in the studio who we'll be interviewing f—
"To hell with this," the man angrily turned the gadget off. "Why did he have to make such a scene of it?! Everyone is bond to connect it in the next few weeks. Damn it, son! Why'd you gotta choose three lovers for fuck's sake! Three!" The man rubbed his forehead. "Servant!" he yelled at one of the nearby demons. "Is the process finished yet? Is my son awake now?"
The person appeared to be checking something and then nodded affirmatively.
"It appears so Your Royal Majesty, Satan."
