"James... I'm so sorry! I never knew this affected you that much." I went to give him a hug, but he rejected it.

"It's alright..." James said quietly. "She's in a better place now. The doctors said there was no hope for her anyways..."

"It's not fine. We are gonna find that doctor, and we are going to-"

"Hate to ruin the moment but did you see what she did?" Shyla interrupted.

"Shyla that's not helpful, we are trying to-"

"No no no. Not that. When she saw James she didn't attack."

"It's like she still remembered who I was!"

"Exactly! So these things, they aren't... Zombies. No they are something more!" Shyla got up and started pacing around. "Saying they are making a army is going to far, but it's something along those lines!"

"Are you saying the government is making evil mutated people to wipe out all of the human race, so they can take over?" Ok I think this whole thing is starting to drive Shyla just a little bit Crazy.

"No, but yes! They... It's hard to explain, and I don't know all of the pieces."

"None of us do." James went back to the wheel. "But that Doctor knew what she was doing. That's for sure."

"Yes. But we still don't know why..."

"Agreed." Shyla headed back to the room. I'm gonna get some sleep winter, you keep watch.

I nodded. "Yes Ma'am."

*1 week later*

It's been a week since we've brought up the topic of the outbreak, and the doctors, but I can see that James is glad. We just stick to what we do best: looting, and hiding. These things... They have hit their peak. They are stronger then humans, and even at times smarter. They seem to be the Alpha male.

While we've been out here, we have set some ground rules. 1.) Don't eat unless everyone else is eating. Our food supply is getting smaller and smaller but day. 2.) No matter what the circumstances are, don't go out at night. These things seem to be the strongest when the sun is down. 3.) Never leave the RV alone. They are always out there, and we can't take any chances.

We've been driving for so long, I don't even know what state we are in anymore. We started in New York, and now we are in a desert area. Maybe Arizona or California.

"Check it out!" James pointed towards a road sign that read: Las Vegas 5 miles. "So we are in Nevada. That's cool."

It was to dark, but I bet we could see the strip from here. Normally we should be able to, but given the circumstances it was pitch black.

"Uh oh!" Shyla gasped as the RV started to slow down.

"What what's happening?" We ran up to the drivers compartment, but I saw nothing wrong. "Shyla!"

"We have a big problem. We are out of gas."

"What does that mean?" James started pacing around the room. "Will we have to walk?"

"I'm afraid so." Shyla grabbed her machete. "There's nothing else we can do. The gas was probably cut off when this all started, that's all the tanks have been empty."

"We can't go out at night! That's breaking on of our rules! There has to be a better way!"

"Winter this is no other way!" Shyla snapped.

"Shyla calm down." James dragged her into the other room. "Now we need to get packing. Spilt up food water and weapons into equal amounts."

"Why aren't we sticking together?"

"Hopefully winter, hopefully. But you never know what's gonna happen out there. We need to be prepared." I started filling up bags with food, water, blankets, weapons, and everything else useful. Once we were done each of us had 3 bags filled to the brim with supplies.

I threw my bags over my shoulder and grabbed my flashlight. "Well, I guess this is it."

James nodded. "Let's go to Vegas."
