Q&A About The Characters Or Story

Feel free to join the fan created Amino of Infatuation. I'll be there as well. Link is in my profile.

I apologise in advance for the length of some of the answers, I tend to express myself a bit too much. I'll warn you for any long answers.

This section is questions I received about the characters and the story.

Did the reader give in to any of the boys?
I think in all their endings she had no choice but to give in. She's pretty much cornered.

What inspired the main guys and their development? (Prepare for a long explanation)
Well, when I first thought about the guys, I knew I needed to make them as separate and distinguishable from each other as possible and try to cater to people's preferences. And I did take some inspiration from people both fictional and non fictional.

For Bako I was sort of thinking about a 'boy next door' sort of feel and just gave him a more chill personality. I quite liked him but I do know I didn't give him as much bonding time as with the rest. I also created him around one of my close friends and incorporated his passion of art from another. Sort of regret not writing him in often enough. Funny thing is I chose Bako as his name because it started with the letter 'B' which I connected to the colour Blue. And his last name (Aoi) literally means 'Blue' in Japanese.

For Ryo I wanted to sort of represent a more exaggerated version of one of my best friends, who is also very passionate and dedicated to drama and acting. He also accidentally was given unintentional sparks of (quite obviously) Tamaki from Ouran High School. But I also wanted him to have a childish sense to him that shows his reluctance to grow up and face the harsher world, and stay in his own bubble of the past. Funny enough, I wonder how many people actually picked up on how similar he is to his father.

For Kaito I didn't have too much reference from other characters in mind, but I knew I wanted him to be this intelligent, arrogant boy with a God Complex who had a secret soft side for those he grew fond over. While writing him, I was constantly given a Light Yagami (Death Note) vibe, just without the powers. A bit of a sprinkle of tsundere and I got this manipulative sadist who was desperate for love. A little bit of trivia is that his back story had a heavier involvement of his older brother, but I scrapped that idea on the day.

For Ren, I just imagined a very gentleman-like character who was as composed as his music. I honestly wanted Ren to have this kindness and politeness that hopefully gave him his own charm, and while I was writing him I thought about someone like Kaname from Vampire Knight. I found him to be a good example of a calm and respectable character. The suppressed musical passion came from a person in real life as well and I really wanted to portray that through the character and do it a bit of justice.

For Alex I do remember I had a specific character in mind while writing him, but now I can't quite remember. I also wanted to work in the whole emotionless persona as a defensive mechanism and at the same time have moments where he shows his inner colours. I honestly felt like I leaned too much on the kuudered trope so I progressively tried to open him up the more he interacted. I also want to know how many of you might have guessed that he's vegetarian. Cus he is!

For Jin I wasn't sure what sort of personality I should give him in he beginning and it actually was a sort of 'spur of the moment' and the whole shyness came up the moment I started writing about him. So it wasn't so much 'inspiration' rather 'luck' but hey, he became one of the more popular characters. Also, with all the health issues he has I really debated whether to put in 'split personality disorder', so I'll leave it up to you guys to decide whether that's the case with him or he just has a lot of built up aggression.

Did the boys get their hands on reader in the end in college?
We'll never know.

With all the problems in their lives, would it get in the way of the guys getting reader?
Hhhmm...well it certainly won't improve the situation with her. She'll still have to deal with Ryo's drunkness, she'll still have to deal with Ren's dependency. Though I feel like their problems would be worse on them without the support of the reader. So you decide who gets the short end of the stick.

Would you consider making a non-yandere version of the story?
It's certainly an interesting idea and the guys could easily fit into the canvas if I take away their possessive traits, but I wouldn't go through with writing a separate universe for this bunch. As I said, their time in the spotlight has come to its end. Whatever happens is up to the reader's imagination and I've completely finished with this bunch.

Can we plan a game based around the characters?
Alright, but only if you do all the work while I take 75% of the profit. You know, equality

Do you ship Hiroko and Reader?
Aaww, that's a tough one...I know a lot of people do and I can seriously see their relationship as quite deep and meaningful, but I also see Hiroko as an older brother figure to the reader (even though she's actually older than him) so I have very mixed feeling about it.

If the book were a series, which actors would portray the boy?
Oh that's a hard one...mostly because I'm not too familiar with very young actors...damn it, I should watch more TV. How about I let others decide on this. Cus this is a pretty provoking question.

Do you brainstorm the story?
In a way I do. I don't actually get a piece of paper and jot things down though (no, I ant got time for that), but I do create and connect ideas in my mind and I try to keep them fresh for as long as possible before I forget them. A lot of good ideas come from very random spurs of the moment so I tend to relax and just let my brain have fun with itself.

Will the guys still like Reader if she refers to dank memes every 0.0420\\blaze it\\seconds?
...I know Ryo likes memes...
...were you high while asking this?

What are the six' dream pets? (Prepare for a long explanation)
For Kaito, I feel like he would relate to a fox with how cunning and patient they could be. They're very frisky and clever animals, so I can see him growing an attachment to a stray fox. It would also match his whole aesthetic haha. Though I imagine him denying it as an actual pet and both of them having this passive aggressive relationship while secretly hiding their fondness of one another.

For Jin I imagine him keeping some sort of reptile like a snake, considering how calm and cautious they can appear as they move around and mind their own business, right before striking in the blink of an eye and completely turning the tables. Kinda reminds me of someone.

For Bako, I can really see him owning gentle and elegant insects like butterflies. Since he has really deep appreciation for beautiful things, I think he would enjoy the variety of those colourful and eye-catching creatures.

For Ryo I really wanted to put something silly like a platypus or Chinchilla but then I chose to actually think deeper and I chose his pet to be a caged dove. This one I contemplated whether Alex should have it due to the sentimental value, but in the long run I think it makes much more sense and has more meaningfulness if Ryo had it. It has its own symbolism for him.

Speaking of Alex, I considered something quite obvious for him and thought a dog and a cat would suit him as pets. Nothing says loyalty and protectiveness, and dependence and comfort than those devoted animals.

Ren's was tricky because I can imagine he'd be up for something just as elegant and beautiful as him, but then I don't think he'd be up for looking after a swan. But it was quite easy to pick out an animal that was just as musical as him so a bird like the Club-Winged Manakin might catch his eye. The bird produces a high pitched sound using only its wings so I can really see Ren getting interested in it.

When coming up with Hiroko, did you intend for him to be a different kind of character?
Not quite sure what you mean by this but I'll take an educated guess and consider you meant if I had bigger plans for him in the story/or if I had change my ideas about him later on.

So I actually did want Hiroko to be a very brotherly figure in the story and a good friend and for him to stand out in his own way. At first I imagined him as a delinquent that just pushed people around and gave Reader special treatment, but then I thought that maybe I could twist that up a bit and make him a very justice driven protector with a soft heart and hard shell. I was actually pretty surprised how many people grew fond of him so I decided to add him a bit more. I guess that's why he was so present in the True Ending.

Which character did you struggle to convey the most?
Jin was actually pretty tough for me because even after writing chapters with him, I still couldn't get a grip on his personality. Guess that's why he kept being so unpredictable, even I didn't know what he would do next.

What happened to Reader's puppy?!
Alex most likely took him in and raised him.

Would Kaito and Ryo end up together if Reader escaped?
You know what, Ima leave this to the imagination of the fangirls

What would have happened if Reader promised to still talk to them the first time she got captured in chapter 38?
Hhmm, I guess she would try and ignore them as much as possible and simply lead her own life. Then after the boys get fed up with the whole act, they would pursue her again. And thus the cycle continues.

How did you choose the names of all the characters? (Prepare for a long explanation)
Well, I already explained the whole concept behind Alex and Bako's names. I chose Kaito's name just out of pure interest since it stuck out to me at the time I was writing about him. Then I found out the reason for that was because I had recently listened to a Kaito Vocaloid song and subconsciously decided that to be his name. I wanted something very simple for Ren, as well as memorable so I had thought about his name being 'Rin' before I eventually settled on Ren. For Ryo I wanted something fun and easy (much like in Ren's case) so when I first thought up of his name, I pronounced it as 'Rio' (like the city) which just gave me some very positive which is what I was aiming with his character. Jin was actually not based from the band BTS (hope that was what it's called) and gave it to him because I knew I would have some trouble with both people and myself remembering all these guys, so I was mindful on going with something simple and catchy that can be easily recalled.

For the side characters like Hiroko, I was actually going through a list of different names when this stuck out due to the pronunciation factor of 'Hero' when saying it (which I thought would be fitting for his character). It's actually very funny because 'Hiroko' is actually a feminine name meaning 'tolerant' or 'broad minded' so the entire irony yet suitability couldn't be passed by, and so I gave him a name which would make you question whether his parents knew his gender or not. Small trivia about Lala, her name is actually the name of one of my best friends' sister and I didn't realise that until chapter 3...haha, oops.

Why is Kaito such an A**hole?
Cus he's our little a**hole~
Wait, that didn't sound right.

What happens with the rest of the guys when one of them takes Reader in their ending?
I can imagine the rest teaming up to try and take her back but I'm not quite sure what happens beyond that idea.

Why wasn't there a Hiroko Ending?
I know it would have been heart warming but he's not part of the yandere team. But hey, he was there for the True Ending so that should hopefully count.

Is Ryo secretly a Tamaki hybrid?
That's meant to be a secret!

How could the guys have found her?
She did mention she would stay in touch with the twins...plus it's pretty easy to hire a detective to search for people. Get them while their guard is down, am I right?

Lemons?
Lol I've never written anything sexual beyond a kiss against the neck, so for one, I'm not too skilled with writing graphic, inappropriate scenes. And also don't really find them necessary unless they help with moving the plot along (though you can just easily skip them without anything changing most of the time) so I don't plan to write any 'lemons' in the near future. Who knows, maybe one day, I do tend to pander to my readers so you guys might eventually break me.

Plus if I ever do, I'll most likely be either so undescriptive because of how flustered I get and completely ruin it. Or on the other side of the spectrum be a bit TOO descriptive if I don't think about it and actually get devoted to the scene. So either way, I'm digging my own grave.

Would Alex like it if Reader acted like his pet?
Oh you dirty bunch~ I guess he would find the entire act cute. Whether he finds it other different ways is all left to interpretation.

Can you give an exact description of each of the guys since there tends to be variations between fan art? (Prepare for a long explanation)
I'll try to keep it exact but short because I feel like this entire thing is already long enough.

I imagine Ren as having very monochrome colour scheme much like a piano. So he has a very pale complexion with very dark black hair and eyes. He has piercings on one ear and I remember that I intended him to be the third tallest of the group.

Kaito I portrayed him with slightly spiked (but in a controlled style) red hair and cold, real eyes. Of course he has his glasses and a very confident ambience and a smug look. He's the fourth tallest in the group.

I described Alex as having very dark magenta eyes and hair, with blond highlights at the tips. I imagine his hair as fairly neat with a sort of natural spike to it. He's the second tallest of the group.

Ryo is described to have curly blond hair and soft brown eyes and I imagine him having a very sweet smile and innocent shine to him. He's the shortest of the group.

Jin is shown to have brown hair and is portrayed to have his fringe covering his one eye, but honestly, I have two images of him showing he has his hair fairly cut short so I just leave it to the readers to decide on which interpretation they chose. He has bright green eyes and is the second shortest of the group.

Bako's whole colour scheme is very deep blue to a fault. His hair is fairly spiky and I have described him to have a very large build compared to the rest of the guys. He's the tallest of the group.

Gosh I'm officially done! Wow never thought this day would come. I guess I'll come across some of you guys when I reply to comments, I have some small business to do here as well so I'll hopefully see some of the readers here in my next story.

Bye ✎
