Chapter 72: Captivity
(Y/n) stared at the sharp point of the blade that was mere inches away from striking her in the chest. She looked towards the hand that had wrapped itself around the blade, ceasing any impact with the female and tightly clinging onto the sharp end with a vice grip, causing a deep and clean cut along the joints that were unfortunate enough to make contact with the thin, ribbon of the steel. The girl stared at the scene in bewilderment and traced the hand, up the arm and towards her arbiter to look at Alex's pleading and stricken expression as he stared the female with fearful expectations and imploring eyes. The boy took the opportunity of the girl's stunned state to snatch the knife out of her grasp, causing further painful lacerations against his flesh, and was quick to restrain her movement as he secured her arms at each side of her body and put all his weight on her to stop the female from standing. The boy was momentarily immunised from the afflicted agony in his palms and fingers as his main priority was to keep the female in his arms from attempting any more self-damage.
(Y/n) remained bewildered for a split moment before her instincts took over, leading to the girl thrashing around to escape his grip and proceed with her actions. "No! Let me go, you idiot! Let me do this! Why do you have to keep ruining my happiness?!" The girl neared tears as she screamed in desperation for the male to allow her to finish the job.
Alex gravely clung onto the female as he tried to settle her to a calmer state. Amidst their struggles, the boy's frame began shaking with anger and dysphoria as he focused on the girl at hand and placed his lips to her ear in order to fully direct his concerns and confusions towards the squirming female. "You said...that every life is precious...so why? Why would you do this to me (Y/n)? If your life isn't valuable, then who's is...? Who is more valuable than you?" His voice shook with betrayal and pain, using all his strength to keep her down and soothe his own fractured mind.
"SHUT UP! I don't want to hear you anymore! You mean nothing to me! I don't care what the hell you'll feel if I'm gone! What you want, doesn't matter!" The pair continued fighting to overpower one another, soon ending the opposition with managing to keep the girl in a semi-unmoving state.
Ryo cautiously approached the unstable girl and gently bent down to sadly inspect her unsettled frame. "(Y/n)...please don't-" As he reached out to grace the girl with a gentle touch, Alex darted his eyes towards the boy's advancing movement and reflexively reacted as he shot his jaw out to bite down on the male's hand. Ryo hissed in pain and quickly retracted and held onto his bleeding palm as he sent the opposing boy an aggravated glare. "What the hell?!"
The restrainer sent the boy a cold and rabid scowl that warned the male from repeating his action again. "Don't touch her." His tone was final and blunt, showing little emotion or gentleness in its reciprocation. The pair proceeded their match of livid glares until the girl began exhibiting signs of struggling once more.
"Let me go! Why...? Why do you torture me like this...why do you want me to continue living in a nightmare...?" The female's body shook as she sorrowfully wept and sniffed as her emotions ran ramped in her head. "I'm not even allowed this little bit of relief...? I-I'm not even allowed to be in charge of what I do to myself...?" (Y/n) felt herself slipping away from her surroundings in an abyss that held meaninglessness over her existence, and as the tears she had been holding in escaped her empty eyes, she seemed defeated in her position. "I hate you! I hate you all! I wish I never got involved with any of you...! How...how could someone do this to a person they claim to love...? How can you ruin me so easily...? And even now I can't end it all? I can't make it stop?! Do you want me to continue suffering?! Do you get some sort of sick amusement from this?!"
The males empathetically watched the agonised and desolate girl as she quivered with every inhale and ineffectually tried to stop her falling droplets of pain. The girl's world seemed to flip inside her head and could barely tell between the scenes playing in her mind and the scene before her.
"I really have no say in this...I really can't do anything to save myself...I'm just going to be forced to stay here, day after day after day...like a rotting animal that you torture for entertainment...I'll live here where you can do whatever you want with me and in the end I'm not going to be able to fight back, am I? I'll be your damn toy that can't do anything to retaliate...I won't be able to stop it either...I'll live under constant fear while I hate every second that I breathe...what kind of life is this...?" The girl felt her body becoming fatigued after her panicked state, and as her muscles began relaxing her mind dotted with darkness. As her consciousness began slipping away along with her torments, her vision gradually darkened to leave her existing only in a land of shadows.
Alex gently held the female's limp body as her exhausted and tormented state entered slumber. The boy pressed her body close to his in a protective embrace and as he relished in the moment of the girl's safety, he heard footsteps approaching them. The male shot a scathing look towards the person that was enclosing, and held the female tighter in his arms, refusing to allow the individual to touch her. "Stay. There." His harsh and demanding tone forced Bako to halt and gaze at the unconscious girl with regretful eyes as he was unsure to feel at ease or under great concern.
"Is she...alright?" The azure male glanced around at the stunned boys as they tried wrapping their heads around the situation themselves.
"...Her body just shut down...most likely due to the stress and tension it was being put through...she'll be fine." Kaito took off his glasses to rub his face in an attempt to refresh himself as a flood of relief showered him at the prospect of the girl staying safe.
Alex rested his head against the girl's shoulder, hands trembling around her limp frame, fearful she would disappear from his grasp if he were to let go. His nerves began to settle as he inhaled the female's soothing scent and simmered him down up until another individual stepped forward.
Kaito entered a stare down with the animal lover, and neither exchanged words for a long while as either side awaited for the other to speak. "Alex...we need to take (Y/n) upstairs where she can rest-"
"No! None of you will touch her! She stays with me!" His shouts were exigent and unwavering as he gripped the female closer to his body, mindful over any action that could take her away from him. Kaito exhaled in frustration and gave a stern glare towards the alert boy.
"So be it, but we need to take her to her room where she can rest. You can do the honours if it will make the entire procedure go quicker." Alex glared at the male for a long while before shifting his attention back to the dormant girl as he picked her up to carry her towards the stairs. He exchanged malevolent glares with Jin as they passed each other, and proceeded to move up to the second floor.
As (Y/n) lay on the bed with a furrowed brow to accentuate her distress even in the dream world, she was surrounded by the males that refused to let her out of their sights. Alex kept his focus on the people around him, while maintaining protective peripheral vision to the female. He sat beside her bed and held onto the girl's hand under the delusion her breath would cease if she were left unattended.
'(Y/n)...why would you try to leave me? Do I have to protect you from yourself as well...? Why are you making it so difficult for me to keep my promise...?' Alex clasped into the girl's palms with his uninsured one, and cherished in the warmth that emanated from her skin, giving him comfort that her heart was still beating.
Kaito sighed, his mind remaining blank and devoid of any ideas that would nullify the escalated situation as he calculated the probability of (Y/n) forgetting and dismissing the events, close to impossible.
Jin stared at the unconscious girl with a sorrowful expression before tensing up in concerned anxiety. "What...what will happen now...she'll try again, won't she? She'll try to kill herself again. When we're not looking, she'll try to do it again! She'll leave us. She'll be gone and won't come back...! My precious (Y/n) won't be..." As each word felt like thorns pricking against the subconsciousness of the group, they gazed at the female with pitying looks, contemplating over her words and torments.
"...Depends if we're willing to be selfish again..." All the boys looked towards Kaito, who seemed thoughtful over the situation at hand and ruminated over the leftover choices.
"What do you mean by that?" Bako suspiciously scowled at the intellectual, his doubtfulness being evident in the underlying tone of his speech.
Kaito hesitated to answer as his sympathy for the girl took his priority, before his desires replaced the pure intentions. "It'll be like starting from square one...no, even from the beginning there was slight mutualism between us...we haven't just ruined all the progress we had made, we've completely reverted it and made her hate us even more..." Kaito thought over the words the girl had spoken to them and wanted nothing more than to erase the meaningful pleas. 'Hate...she hates us...yeah, she said she only says it when she means it...what a tangled web we've weaved...' The intellectual was snapped out of his daze as he felt a strong arm gripping his should for a demand of an answer.
"Will you shut it! I want to know what that little, deceitful brain of yours is thinking." Bako mockingly sweetened his tone to patronise the boy before him.
Kaito smacked his offending hand off and exhaled his frustration, "We'll have to do something quite rash of we're to keep her under control, though that would end up escalating the situation and making it worse for her." The males exchanged glances before shifting their attention back to the tactician.
(Y/n) felt her body stretching as her joints seemed stiff and aching. The girl gently opened her eyes to fixate them on the forms that were surrounding her, distracted by the exchanges of speech they presented to one another, catching the female's attention, quickly placing her mental state and instincts under high alert.
"She's awake..." Ryo pointed out the girl's lucid and apprehensive condition, drawing all the rest of the individuals to look towards her and witness her reaction.
(Y/n) automatically began panting as her memories flooded back with multiplied intensity, making her reflexively shoot up from her position and attempt to move away, only to find herself unable to do so. "Wh-what...?" She gazed towards her hand to notice the metallic binding around her wrist, restricting her to the bedpost, augmenting her panic further as she frantically pulled against the handcuffs to break out of the hold. Her gasps of air soon turned into desperate hyperventilating and her struggling hands began shaking to the bone as each muscle was put under the influence of adrenaline, fearful of the people surrounding her helpless frame.
Alex stood up from his position beside the bed, and slowly approached the girl to aid her deluding fears. However, she quickly moved as far away as her restraints would allow her, and began trying to force her breath to steady and her heart to beat at a rhythmical pace. "(Y/n), please calm down." Alex approached the alarmed girl and attempted to soothe with a few strokes to hear trembling head, only for the female to gasp away.
"What is this?! Wh-why am I...?" She tugged against the cuffs, her eyes blurring and smudging with bewildered moisture, and looked towards her captors with anguished features.
"I'm sorry (Y/n). But this was all that we could do to make sure you're out of harm's way." Kaito dared not look directly at the female's confuse expression, feeling his shame getting the better of him.
(Y/n) shook her head in delusional denial, grasping onto the handcuffs to tug them with forced movements and frantic need. "T-this is insane...why? Why are you doing this to me...?" None of the boys had the suitable excuse nor the courage to speak to the betrayed female. "How could...? How could...?" As she searched for the right words to express her jumbled emotions, (Y/n) began shaking as the delusion of escaping began to disappear, being taken up by a cruel realisation of captivity and melancholy.
"Angel I do beg you to settle down, this isn't easy for any of us." (Y/n) didn't cease her attempt at breaking through her bonds and kept a wary eye on the males surrounding her.
"Why...? What is this...?" She could only keep repeating the same provoking inquiries in an attempt to hopefully earn a response.
Kaito took the liberty to cautiously near the confused girl and give her an explanation that he knew wouldn't hold well with her. "(Y/n), after what you pulled a while ago, we decided that it's best if we kept you from harming yourself." The male knew his words held no merit for her, they no longer seemed as trustworthy and understanding as before. "So, in order to do that we had to take a few drastic measures...we won't be letting you out of our sight (Y/n)." The female felt her heart stunting for a second as it hesitated to take another beat with the information she had been given. (Y/n) deliriously shook her head before and began immediately pulling against the cuffs that held her to the bed. "I'm sorry...we had no choice."
But the girl shot him a scolding flash that manifested all the fury she held in. "Yes you did...! You could have...you could have let me go. You could have just left me alone and I wouldn't have to go through this...but you couldn't, could you?" She accusingly glared at the boys and clenched her hands into tight fists as frustration began seeping out into her mind. "You couldn't just spare me...you couldn't just give me the slightest pity and put your egos to the side so I can be happy again..."
The male's stubbornly tried to convince themselves that what they had done was with good intentions and beneficent on their side. (Y/n) exhaled deeply and heavily her stressed solicitude.
"Guys...please. I'm begging you...I'm begging. Please...I won't mention this to anyone, I won't call you out on the things you've done to me. I won't speak of what's been happening for these past few weeks...just please, let me go home...just leave me and I'll forget all of this even happened...I don't care anymore, I just want my freedom...please, I'm begging you." She pleadingly gazed at them as her temper shook with the suppressed anxiety and solitude she felt to her surroundings. As each breath brought her closer to living in the environment she despised, the girl wished she could halt any intake of oxygen.
The boys stared at the weeping girl with heavy hearts and felt their shame forcing their gazed away from the girl as neither had the valor or lacking guilt, to tell her the cravings she implored was to be rejected. (Y/n) switched her attention from each one until her hopes of sending her plea through, diminished with each passing second.
The girl allowed her head to fall in defeat as she could only stare at the covers that had acted as her source of warmth for the duration of her stay. "So that's how it is...you've completely denied me any sort of needs and urges as any normal person would desire...you've got me completely under your control...I hope you're happy." On the contrary, the males were surprisingly ashamed and guilt struck to have the girl endure the circumstances they placed her through. Though their urges stopped the flow of reason to reach their sympathy as they chose to dismiss her.
The group stood in silence, neither person daring to break through the still barrier, until it was unintentionally disturbed by the sound of a doorbell ringing. The males looked over to each other before Ryo choosing to answer the call of the unknown individual.
"Are you all insane?!" Ren began screaming with unwavering accusation for the harsh and inconsiderate reasoning over their actions. "One day...I'm gone one day and I come back to hearing (Y/n) had tried to kill herself?!" The males produced a round of cringed expressions before averting their eyes away with a false sense of innocence, enraging the musician further. "(Y/n) is unstable right now...and you chose the most idiotic move of caging her around a toxic environment?!" Kaito gritted his teeth as he searched for the patience that would provide him with the resources to delineate his reasoning.
"She tried to kill herself as a last resort to escape us...yes, I'm not denying what we did is probably the most inefficient way to go...but what she wanted was to leave us and never interact with us again. Would you agree to that as well?" Ren wanted to claim to the decision that would bring the girl some peace and tried to urge himself to answer that he would have gladly allowed her to leave. But his words never passed by his truthful side, knowing if he were to utter the lie, it would weigh heavily on his conscience. "There we go...even you can't say you're willing to let her leave...and if we were to reject her, she would try this little stunt again, so what in actuality were we supposed to do? We can't let her leave. We don't want her to get hurt because of that. And with this, we come full circle to our actions....This way she won't have the opportunity to perform this again." Ren grinded his teeth together as he seethed in the frustration he felt towards the incompetent actions of the group.
"I still don't agree with this...how is this supposed to change her mind about us?! If anything, it's all the more reason for her to despise our very existence." Ren locked his vehement eyes with the intellectual, entering a subconscious battle of opposition. "Who's looking after her right now? She'll definitely try something if she's left even for one minute. I'm not letting her do this to herself."
Kaito dismissively waved the male's enquiry off. "It's quite unlikely, and if it were to come to that, Oberon is upstairs to alert for any odd behaviours-" As though on cue, there was loud and frenzied barking, emanating from the second floor. Alex showed no hesitance at the signal and was the first to sprint up to assess the situation. The rest reluctantly followed in pursuit, fearing to experience the worst once more. Kaito stayed behind as the boys disappeared to witness the cause of the commotion, taking his time alone to grunt out a deep and pent up sigh before glancing up the stairs in concern as horrific scenarios played in his mind. "What are you doing to me, you stupid girl...?" After his worry became unbearable for his heart, he proceeded to trace the group's steps.
Alex flung the weakened door open to witness the girl holding a steeple-shaped glass ornament that was used to decorate the top of the nightstand. As the dog continued barking at the scolding female, (Y/n) tried to gesture for him to settle down and hissed out her commands with an obtuse tone. "Shush! Oberon, stop!" The girl unwittingly gasped in surprise when the hand she was holding the object in, was squeezed with tremendous force, making her drop the article from the sudden shot of pain.
"What were you doing?" Alex glared down at the girl with strict and furious features and sharpened eyes that pierced through her thoughts and intentions. The boy directed her attention to the pointed glazed object, maintaining eye contact with her throughout.
(Y/n) took a moment to regain herself before reflexively fighting against his grasp. "Let go! I wasn't doing anything!" She denied the intentions he was perceiving and winced away as he held up the ornament. The very tip was nearly the size of a pin as it extended downwards to created a long, glassy, cylindrical base that seemed easy to penetrate a soft material.
He threw the item at an arbitrary direction before focusing back to the girl with an intent gaze. "Don't you dare try to do something like that again! Why are you trying to leave me again?! Why are you trying to give me a reason to end my existence?!" He growled at the girl's stunned face, forcing her to attempt another motion of backing away. "(Y/n), look at me! I'm going to say this once because I'm not going to give you another chance with this." He grabbed her attention as his feral eyes stared right into her own, seeming to cause her severe anxiousness if she were to look away. "If you try something like that again, I will kill someone you love."
A/n: (just skip to the picture if you don't like reading boring author's notes)
This amazing fanart is from Nintendo_Girl who simply obviously put a lot of passion and energy into these fantastic pieces of Kaito from chapter 60's sunrise scene as well as an undercover Kaito x Ryo ship. It's honestly so great to see this brilliant work being slightly wasted on this story out of all things. In any case, enjoy these:
Side Note:
By the way, a reader called @lilyoftheprophecy created a sort of short spin-off of the last chapter where Reader actually kills herself. It's was quite an interesting read with emotional, humorous, weird, random and interesting points of view that were quite intriguing to read and I honestly did enjoy myself while reading it. So if you like, feel free to check ur out!
