Chapter 53: The Visitor
"Good afternoon Mrs Danzel. Please, what can we get you?" Bako politely offered the woman any commodities before the rest of the group joined the male and adult in the living room. When (Y/n)'s eyes fell on the lady, recognition immediately seeped in as she recalled the woman's familiar appearance from their one encounter.
'Wow, she's so pretty...and looks so young, it doesn't even feel like she aged a day, from what I can remember.' The girl kept her gaze fixated on the long, silk fuchsia hair that identically resembled her son's, and her lightly paled complexion that seemed unaltered and pure against her porcelain skin. She had the appearance of an ornate doll that had been well preserved over the years, and held an almost dominating confidence that further glorified her unnatural beauty. Though what the female was truly struck by and seemed to ruin the pleasant illusion of the woman's display were her deep, crimson eyes that held nothing but empty and orotund mannerisms.
"Nothing for now. Where's Alexander?" The woman's eyes scanned the room, dismissively glancing over the younger female's existence, until they fell on her son, who had his gaze nailed to the ground in expectant shame. "Alexander, I've come all the way here and you dare not even look at me?" Her tone was sharp and toxic, deliberate with its coldness. Alex flinched at her voice and slowly looked up to meet his mother's eyes.
"I'm sorry mother..."
"I'm not concerned if you're sorry, just do as I say next time." The male nodded in quiet obedience while the older woman gave him a harbingered scowl. "Go and take my luggage out of the car. I expect all my thing to be inside in 5 minutes. Or else." She spoke the last words out with warning quietness and the male simply nodded at his order.
"So she's his mother?" (Y/n) lullingly whispered to Ryo as she analysed the woman in front of her.
"Yep, but I like to call her the Ultra B***h. It's always a hell ride when she comes around, seriously makes me question if she isn't a sociopath- Oh my God! How are you Mrs Danzel?! I hope you had a safe trip." The male spontaneously changed his tone as he noticed the woman approaching their direction.
The older female shot the boy a cold glare, quickly silencing his hyped vocals. "Hush boy, I don't want to hear a word from you until you begin acting like a normal human being." As her watchful, scarlet eyes drifted away from the male, she noticed the girl that had been quietly observing her, and a smirk spread to her sculpted lips. "Oh, you finally decided to hire a maid. A young one too, I must condone you all on your decision."
(Y/n) stared at the woman with a blank expression, unable to find the right words that could respond to the assumption, and had to let the musician take over her speech. "No Mrs Danzel, (Y/n) isn't a maid." The woman gave him a perplexed look until turning back to the girl before her.
"Oh, so you hired a servant? I didn't know they sold them this young. Mind giving me the company you used?" She gave the girl a smug smile before it disappeared as her hypothesis was denied once again.
"No, she's not a servant. She's staying with us for the time being." The adult gave the boy an astonished look before sending her spiteful glare at the girl.
"What is a weasel like her doing in this house? I don't want any contagious diseases riddling my home." She provided the girl with a disgusted look -unknown to her- earning glares of quiet hatred from all the males in the room.
"Ma'am, I can assure you, (Y/n) has to stay here under certain circumstances so if you please be patient, there will be no disagreements." (Y/n) scratched her head until giving the woman a polite, welcoming smile and extending her hand.
"I really hope you can forgive my intrusion, I promise that you won't even know I'm here." The woman looked at the girl's stretched out hand and nearly gaged at the implication.
"Then you can start by avoiding talking to me unless I regard you." She vituperated and turned away from looking at the female.
(Y/n) retracted her hand, staring at the woman's reasoning until the silence was broken by the ebullient barks and yelps from the animals that had been laying in the corner until that moment. The woman took one look at the dogs before her entire complexion further paled, and took swift steps back.
"What are these pests?! I thought I told you to keep any animals outside where they belong." She grimaced at the creatures as they detected the threatening aura the woman was emoting.
Kaito took the liberty of stepping in and explaining. "My apologies ma'am, I'll take Oberon outside." He gestured for his companion to follow him, while also attempts to call over the smaller animal to save it from the lady attention.
"And who's mutt is that? Don't tell me Alexander got a dog." She glowered down at the helpless pup.
"He's mine ma'am. I'll take him with me." (Y/n) knelt down to pick up her animal friend.
"Unless you're leaving, I'm not having that parasite anywhere in this house." She sent the girl a warning glare before hearing her son entering the building with the large amount of luggage.
"Oh wow Mrs Danzel, you've got a lot of things. Does that mean you'll be staying for a while?" Ryo silently hoped her answer would be contrary to his question.
"No, just for the night. I have to go somewhere tomorrow afternoon and I'm simply passing by to check on Alexander." She glanced back at the said male and glared at him. "Boy, will you go and prepare me something to drink and leave the job of huddling my cases to the newcomer." The woman gave the girl a simpering smirk. Alex glanced towards the clueless female with concern at the excessive weight she would have to carry and gazed back at his other with a pleading look.
"But mother-" The adult shot him a daggered glare, ensconcing her dominance over the situation.
"Did you answer me back?" The boy shot his eyes to the ground, avoiding making eye contact with her crimson orbs. "You look at me when I'm speaking to you!" She snapped away at the hindered male as he flinched at her tone and forced his soft, orchid eyes to look into her garner ones.
"My apologies mother..." A scoff was heard from the woman until an idea entered her mind, causing a devious grin to spread to her lips.
"Why don't you take that little pest and leave it outside where it's supposed to be." She gestured towards the black pup that cowered at her cold gaze.
"B-but...-" The boy silenced himself as his mother pierced him with her glare.
"In all due respect ma'am, my dog will die out there in the cold if I just leave him." (Y/n) took some of the tension off of the boy and regarded the woman, who took little heed to her concern.
"Is that supposed to be my problem? Besides, the street rats need something to feast on." The girl cuddled the animal close to her, slightly disturbed at the image of letting her pet be eaten by rodents. "The dog either goes, or I'll take care of it myself." Alex winced at the woman's words, knowing better than anyone else the actions she would take to execute her threat, and swiftly moved towards the girl.
"Wh-what? No!" The female tried to move away from the boy before he could take the dog, but her reaction was delayed and the male snatched the pup away.
"Trust me..." He whispered to the girl before moving apart to perform the command. (Y/n) restrained herself from following him and noticed the older woman's eyes, expectantly lingering on her.
"Well, girl? Aren't you going to bring my luggage to my room?" She gestured towards the large suitcases and impatiently tapped her finger against her crossed arms.
"Mrs Danzel, that might be a bit of a problem. You see, (Y/n) is currently residing in that room." Kaito explained to the adult and for a moment, the younger girl felt her blood freeze as the aristocrat's eyes gazed down at her with discontent. "Would you like to accommodate in the other guest room?"
"No. That little box is not suitable for me and I'm not setting foot in the room this germ has been resting in." She eyed the girl like a serpent and sighed with irritation. "I guess I'll have to take Alexander's room for the night."
(Y/n) felt herself becoming aggravated and regarded the woman. "But where is Alex supposed to sleep?" The aristocratic female scoffed at the question, as though it were uttered by a gullible child.
"He can sleep on the floor for all I care. I'm here to check on his and the house's condition, why should it affect me negatively. Now go and put my baggage in his room." She ordered the younger teenager, receiving a baffled glare from the girl before she complied.
'Rude b***h...' She begrudgingly thought to herself before taking hold of the first bag and just barely lifting it up. 'Does she keep a body in here?! I can't lift all these by myself!' (Y/n) glanced at the other 7 articles she had to lug up the stairs and felt her muscles tire at just the sight of them.
"I'll come help you." Bako made a move to aid with the girl's duty before being interposed the woman.
"If she's going to stay here, she needs to carry her own weight. Leave the girl." After giving her a furious glare, the boy shook his head.
"She can't carry that stuff on her own. At least not without an accident on the way." The woman glanced back at the female before sighing.
"You're right. I can't risk a clumsy puppet like her spilling my equipment. Girl, pick whoever you want to help you." (Y/n) exhaled her relief and shook her head as she noticed Bako preparing to help with her labour.
"No, I want Kaito." All the males were slightly surprised at her choice and even the intellectual was hesitant at grasping what he heard.
After a moment of reluctance, he took a suitcase and both the teenagers carried them up until taking a moment to rest at the second floor.
"Honestly, one of the reasons why I don't make myself too likeable is for moments like these." He crossed his arms while trying to hide how little muscle mass he actually had.
"I picked you for a reason. I wanted to ask a few questions." Kaito raised his eyebrow at the female and gestured for her to proceed with the interrogation. "Why does Alex look so scared of his mother? Moreover, why is she like this towards him?" The male slightly flinched at the curious inquiry and uncomfortably scratched his head.
"You do remember Alex and his mother don't exactly have the best chemistry."
"Yeah but...what's all this about?" The boy seemed thoughtful for a moment before exhaling and checking if they were being left unheard.
"...I don't think Alex would mind if I told you so I guess it wouldn't hurt to give you some insight..." The male held his chin in a thoughtful demeanor until preparing every information he had gathered in his head into a coherent explanation. "You see, Mrs Danzel isn't exactly a first class parent. From what I can recall, Alex used to be severely tormented by his mother emotionally and mentally during his childhood, which continues to this day. You could say all those years he had to deal with, made him immune from refusing her." (Y/n) stared at his words, unsure if she should or should not be surprised, based off of the impression she received.
"Why would she do something like that?"
"There are many sadistic people out there (Y/n). She takes pleasure in maltreating those around her, especially Alex." The girl shook her head in saddened disbelief at the thought of what the silent boy had to suffer through.
"That's horrible! Why don't you guys at leat say something?" Kaito stroked his neck in awkward discomfort.
"Mrs Danzel is friends with our parents. The moment they come into the picture she completely changes her demeanour, so they don't suspect anything, no matter how much we tell them. If we dare speak against her, she can very easily twist and manipulate the situation in her favor and inform our parents. Last time one of us spoke back to her, Ryo ended up in Boot Camp for the summer." The girl looked to the ground in deep contemplation at the woman's behaviour and reasoning, trying to gather as much as information as possible.
"Gees..." The male watched the girl for a second before crossing his arms, taking on a composed nature.
"I suggest you stay away from her. If you catch her interest, she'll start playing with you like a fox and continuously amuse herself while you suffer."
"What happens when she's not focusing on you?" The boy grunted slightly at the query, seeming bothered with the answer.
"She focussed on Alex."
"You guys are terrible friends! Can't you take a few slings and arrows for him?!"
"We try to take as much damage as possible without making her latch onto us, but the boundary is thin." (Y/n) slouched slightly before starting to imperceptibly grin towards the male with a smug smirk. "What?"
"Aren't you scared I'll try and tell her about what you've guys had done?" However, she received the exact opposite of the response she had been expecting when the male began laughing out of amusement. "Wh-what?"
"You'd be lucky if she actually listens to you, let alone believe you. She already thinks you have some sort of contagious disorder, so I'm not too concerned over her interference." The female moped at the unnecessary rudeness she received and pouted for a moment as the boy made his way towards the stairs. Before he could take two steps downwards, the girl snatched his attention back with an urgent question.
"By the way, I wanted to ask you one more thing."
"Go on then." The male awaited until the she found the courage to inquire on the concern that had been following her since its mentioning.
"Why do you keep giving these weird reactions when you see the necklace Ryo gave me?" Kaito seemed slightly taken aback by the sudden mention of his unorthodox behaviour and scratched his cheek before sighing.
"It's not my place to tell you that. I think it's best if you find out through Ryo." This further played on the girl's curiosity, but also concluded to take the male's recommendation to ask the source of the subject. "Come on, she'll probably give us a time limit if we don't go and get the rest of the luggage."
"Uuhm...any suggestions on what to do around her?" (Y/n) graced the boy with an awkward smile.
"Best advice I can give you is to completely avoid her, but if you must come across, don't look at her until 12pm. She's not a morning bird." He ascended towards the first floor to finish off the job he had been unlucky enough to be supplied with, leaving the girl to groan out her nuisances.
"Fun..."
