Chapter 43: Talks
"Alex, settle down." Kaito scolded the boy that had been pacing across the room for the past hour, like a caged animal. The regarded male ignored the remark and proceeded with his stress-relieving activity. "This is for her own good, if she's going to be this reciprocative, she should familiarise herself with the consequences." The boy growled at his friend's statement and halted his walk to feel the full exhaustion of his movement take over.
"Do you think this gave her a good scare? Will she yield to us now?" Ryo cheerfully smiled at the intellectual.
"(Y/n) can be quite predictable when she lets her emotions run wild. If I instal enough fear into her, she'll be too scared to do anything." The boy proceeded to flip through the pages of his book while Ren tapped his foot against the leg of a chair in an observant manner.
"But how will she react to all this? She won't exactly be thrilled over what we did." Subsequently to finishing his sentence, the buzzer rang to alert them of a presence at the door. Bako took the liberty of breaking away from the group and left to answer the call.
"She needs to know that what we say, goes. She chose to ignore our calls, so we simply stuck to our word." The intellectual shrugged off the entire tribulation, as the sound of a door opening and loudly shutting echoed into the sitting area of the home.
"J-Jin, dude what's wrong-?" The newcomer tread into the living room, focusing his attention on the single boy that was casually reading up until that moment. He made quick strides of approach towards the unprepared male and grabbed a hold of his shirt to drive him to the nearest wall.
He quickly latched his fingers around the intellectual's neck, contracting each digit until they restricted the flow of oxygen into the boy. "I'll kill you...I'll kill you." Jin sternly spoke between clenched teeth while the student in his grasps struggled for air.
"Jin cool it! Let him go-" Bako attempted to interfere before coming to an immediate stop as the assailant coldly glanced his way, holding little emotion to his gaze.
"Stay out of this or you're next." As those words seeped out with warning quietness, the boy turned his attention back to the male in his grasp. "You made my dear (Y/n) shout at me. Because of you, she hates me now. Because of you, she'll never forgive me. Because of you, (Y/n) will never look at me again." As each word flowed out of his mouth in frenzied regret, he clenched his hold around the male's airway, causing black dots to swirl through his vision. For a moment it seemed his head would explode and black out, before Kaito felt the grip on his throat loosen all together, allowing a fresh supply of air to enter his deprived lungs. As the crimson haired male tried to normalise his breathing, he looked down to see his assailant tightly clutching his chest while a slew of coughs and hacks came out in frantic patterns. Kaito signalled for the rest of the group to stay where they were when he saw them making movements to aid both of their friends. The intellectual calmly regained the passive rhythm of breathing and knelt down to the boy who was still struggling to regain his composure between grunts, but was still replete with coughs. Kaito took the chance of the male's weaker state to directly talk to him, without the uncertainty of the boy retaliating.
"Jin, I know you're confused right now and don't like how (Y/n) is abrogating you, but you need to keep in mind that everything that is happening is so that she could come to us. If she says thing or does things that are meant to hurt us, then so be it. It'll only make it worse for her, while she'll soon give herself up. You want her back, don't you?" The male waited for his companion to settle down from his episode and reluctantly nod at his words. "You want (Y/n) to treat you like before, right?" Another nod. "You want (Y/n) to be happy, right?" Another nod. "You want (Y/n) to be amenable, right?" Another nod. Kaito smirked at the boy's ongoing compliance and proceeded to lean towards him in order to privately ask him the question that would permanently cast his mindset. "You want (Y/n), don't you?" Jin swallowed back the eagerness to answer the proposal and firmly nodded as Kaito backed up with a confident grin. "Wonderful, so simply be patient with her and I. She'll soon realise where she truly belongs." The emerald eyed youth sighed, visually calming down and returning to his natural mannerisms. "Don't worry, shouldn't be too long now."
(Y/n) kicked a few pebbles as she walked along the lifeless road, watching each one's journey and destination in a distracted manner. As her mind began to neutralise from her encounter in the hospital, causing a slight sense of eeriness and worry over her bold appearance away from the safety of her temporary home. She hadn't made any strides in leaving the comfort of the building up until that moment, so it almost seemed like an eternity since she had last set foot further from the doorstep of her sanction. 'What happens now...? I know I can't just stay away from them forever, but I won't go back to them...I refuse to.' However, as the image of her hospitalised friend floated into mind, her emotions began swirling at the thought of witnessing more of her friends in those predicaments. 'I can't let this happen again...I need to do something but what...-?" As her thoughts began floating away to the clouds, she felt a hand grab her shoulder from behind. (Y/n) swing around, prepared to punch the person as her alertness assured her it was one of the dreaded males, As her fist flew towards the figure, the person skilfully caught her attack and firmly held onto her hand in case of a second round of hits would appear.
"Chill (Y/n)! I'm not a punching bag." As the girl looked into the stone eyes of the large figure, her heart filled up with joy at the sight of the individual.
"Hiroko!" (Y/n) collided against the boy's body, and wrapped her hands around him in a relieving, familiar hug. The boy awkwardly stared down at the girl's interchanged mood and warily looked around in case of any onlookers to allow himself to pat her head.
"You know, sometimes I feel like we're from completely different worlds." (Y/n) chuckled slightly and stepped back from her embrace.
"You have no idea."
As the pair began taking a shortcut through the park, the air slowly chilled as the clouds above became silver with the promise of an oncoming anomaly in the weather. "I haven't seen you in a while, what happened?"
"Nothing, I've just been sick." The female shuffled around on the spot, hoping her bluff seemed plausible enough.
"I'm glad that's the only thing that had been happening, you worry me sometimes." (Y/n) scoffed at the remark as chills arouse against her skin as an effect of the frigid, thin atmosphere. "Are you cold?"
"No, I'm fine-" Before the girl was given a chance to respond, she felt a material being flung around her shoulders. "S-seriously...?"
"Just wear it for now." She looked at the jacket that had been given to her as a form of warmth and sighed out her disapproval.
"Aren't you cold?"
"I can handle the weather, I'm used to it after all." (Y/n) glanced at the gruff male that seemed too accustomed to the chilled atmosphere through years of deprived comfort. "So why were you so on-guard back there? Were you expecting someone to attack you." He joked, making the female roll her eyes.
"You can never be too careful..." The female ironically looked at the ground as they came near the exit of the park. "What are you doing here anyway?"
"I usually take walks after school so that's my excuse." Hiroko analysed the female and rose his eyebrow in inquiry. "You seem fine for a person who's supposed to be sick."
"Yeah, well...I decided to take a walk too, so I guess it's making it better for me." The boy nodded somewhat doubtfully at the reason and went quiet for an interval before sympathetically glancing back at his company.
"Did you hear about your friend...?" The girl slowly nodded at the question, as a sense of guilt and compendium arose from the question. "I'm sorry, I really hope she makes it out ok." (Y/n) shot him a small, grateful smile before falling silent again, letting the aggressive winds to beat against their ears. "How are you doing?"
"So-so..." Another moment of stillness followed.
"...Is anyone bothering you?" The female quickly looked towards the male's reasoning and frantically shook her head in a negative riposte. "I'm asking because I have a hunch that everything that's happening around you is because of somebody." For a single moment, (Y/n) wanted to share what had been occurring with her life, tempted to speak out every bother that lingered at her tongue and all worries that surrounded her in the recent moments.
"...No, there's no one..." (Y/n) knew that by speaking out her predicament will undoubtedly involve the boy in a world where he was not needed to be included. The last thing she needed at that moment was to add him to the list of people she had to worry for. "By the way, thanks for the jacket." Instead of the customary, passive 'you're welcome' she was answered with the amused chuckles of the boy. "W-What?"
"It's just so fun to hear you actually accepting some help from me." (Y/n) moped at his reaction and huffed a number of times to show her frustration. "Don't pout, it's so rare to see you accepting anyone's help, it's kind of refreshing to see you thanking me for once."
"You're making me sound so stiff."
"Haha, you sort of are (Y/n)." The girl sulked further and glared at the boy who took little offence from her mopey attitude. "But I like it when you accept my help, gives me hope I'm doing something right."
"You're always right, I'm just too stubborn..." The girl silently scolded herself for her past actions and ignorant behaviours while Hiroko watched the her with an unreadable expression.
"Will I be seeing you around school this week?"
"...I don't know, I feel a bit dizzy so, who can tell?" The statement wasn't far from the truth, and (Y/n) could feel a headache coming on.
"Alright, get well soon then."
"I will, I can look after myself..." Another round of snickers began filling the frosty air, causing the girl to reflexively fixate a menaced gaze towards the source.
"You're probably the last person I trust to look after you."
"W-What does that mean?!" Hiroko dismissively shook his head, indicating the lack of importance at the reason. "Go on, tell me what you said!"
"Hey, aren't those the twins?" (Y/n) stared before her to take a glance at the two forms that are standing in front of their house.
"Yeah...hey, where are you going?!" The girl swerved back to notice the boy insouciantly walking away from her. "What about your jacket?!"
"Keep it for now."
"Then when can I give it back to you?" The male continued his departure while glancing back at the girl and sending her a disobliged wave.
"When I'm fully sure you can look out for yourself. See ya."
'So never, I guess...' The female felt a tight squeeze from behind and nearly stumbled forward from the impact.
"What happened to you?! We thought you got kidnapped!" Lala began pinching the female's cheeks in a process of scolding until her sister pulled her away from the back.
"Where did you go?"
"I wanted to visit Summer in the hospital." The pair glanced at one another until reverting their attention back to their friend.
"So...how is she?" The girl sighed out at the tomboy's question and proceeded to make her way into the house.
"Could be better, could be worse I guess..." The twins nodded at the response, refraining from pushing the subject further.
"H-hey, (Y/n)! Do you want us to cook you up something? We know soup isn't much, but it's better than instant noodles." (Y/n) slight chuckled and gratefully nodded her head as the pair went into the kitchen for their new task while the girl walked up to their bedroom for a time of rest.
As she entered the privacy of the chamber, the girl leaned against the door, in deep thought over her next decisions. "I can't do this anymore..." (Y/n) set the piece of clothing down and paced up to take the second-hand phone that her companions had given her and took a moment to think over her next actions. 'I'm going to call my grandma...they can't stop me, how would they know anyway...' The teenager pushed aside every doubt that would enter her mind and began dealing in a reflexive manner the number she memorised since adolescence, until another device caught her attention. The buzzing of the second phone that came to belong to her began to fill the space. Tusking with annoyance at the interruption, she knew better than to ignore the call after the events of that day. "Hello."
"What are you doing (Y/n)?" Ryo asked in a stern voice, eluding to the idea that it was more of a demand than an actual question.
"What?"
"Who were you about to call?" The girl quickly dropped the device she had previously considered her last hope, before fully comprehending the male's words.
"W-what...?"
"Who was the person my angel was about to call?" The female became tongue-tied at the male's insight over the impossible foreseeing.
"I don't know what you mean..."
The girl inwardly cringed at the disapproving clicking noise the boy performed with his teeth was heard through the speakers. "Angels aren't supposed to lie sweetheart. Now tell me who you were about to call." (Y/n) gulped and looked around for any way he could have gained percipience from.
"I wasn't doing anything Ryo...just staying in the room." There was a long pause from the other end, stifling the female's lungs and causing a drop of sweat to roll down her head at the unplausible excuse.
"Ok! I'll play dumb just this once, for you. But be careful of what you're gonna do after I go angel. Bye bye!" The male hung up on the girl and let her think over her next choices.
'I'm never gonna return that jacket, am I...?'
