Chapter 42: An Accident
The girl was given a long while to spend with her thoughts and decisions. (Y/n) quietly contemplated what she should do next without the insight of the males. She massaged her own head to take some tension away from her mind, though it didn't do much to help her condition. However, every labouring attempt that she made was quickly diminished as the cursed phone began calling her attention once again. She groaned loudly and took the device to sadly answer it. "What?" The question was coldly mannered and bluntly toned to specify her unkindly mood.
"Hey (Y/n), I just wanted to check up on my favourite girl." She recognised the boy to be Bako and her blood pressure exceeded further.
"Well I'm fine, are we done here?" He was slightly troubled by the dismissive attitude of the girl but attempted to further the conversation.
"Now hold on dear, I simply want to-"
"Don't call me 'dear', I'm nothing to you." Bako was left speechless at the unnaturally angry tone he was a witness to.
"What do you mean? You're so much to me-" There was a loud bang that resonated from the girl's end of the connection, which sent the male's worries on high alert. "(Y/n), what happened?!"
"Oh I'm sorry, I was just getting tired of the lies you keep saying. So I simply took my nerves out on the nearest door." She sarcastically spoke with irritable mannerisms.
"I-I'm not lying (Y/n), I-"
"Don't even, I don't know what you're problem is, but I can't deal with you guys right now...goodbye." Before the boy was given a chance to object to her request, she cut him off by hanging up.
She nonchalantly tossed the phone in a random direction, and simply rested her head down on the couch and curled up against the cushions to embrace the warmth of each fiber. This sent her into a world of relief as her only thoughts were filled with the memories of a better time, creating an invisible shield around her mind to protect from the infectious males. As the peace slowly engulfed her form in a cocoon, her mind switched off to send her in a world of dreams as her unaware ears blocked out the sounds of loud buzzing.

When the girl awoke again, she was completely detached from her surroundings and had to take a moment on registering where she was located. After a minute of regaining her sense or reality, she stood up to get herself a glass of water and check on the time, before opting on doing anything at that moment. She looked towards the clock to notice that she had remained unconscious for two hours after the phone call with the boy. 'Oh yeah...that call.' She splashed chilled water on her face to clear up her muddled mind, and sighed out her frustration as she went to search for the missing device. She decided to crouch down to have a better sense of special awareness and looked around the floor of where she recalled herself tossing the mobile. The girl silently surveyed her actions at the back of her mind while the seeking out of the phone remained unfruitful. 'Maybe I should have been more mindful over what I said. I should have just kept my mouth closed and let him speak until he was finished...I hope this didn't cause any problems.' Noticing a smooth glint from under the coffee table, (Y/n) reached out her hand and felt around until she was sure she had grasped onto the device she had been looking for. 'I'm sure nothing too much could happen, I mean, it wasn't that serious...' As she turned the phone on, the air surrounding her seemed to thicken as each particle felt like it grew to the size of a ball. On the screen were displayed 6 individual numbers with a remarkable quantity of calls from each one of them. Texts inclining on the girl's wellbeing and location were sent over and over again from each contact, and as her eyes wondered around each call and message her hands began to tremble. With shaking fingers, she dialled the number she was sure belonged to the ruby haired male and put the phone to her ear, frantically hoping for an answer. The call was connecting to the other phone and each passing second seemed to determine what actions would be taken next. When she heard the relieving sound of her phone being put through, her breath steadied. "K-Kaito, listen. I would have answered but-"
"You've got some nerve playing like that with us, (Y/n)." The male's tone was quiet, testing and grudging. Each word had its own venom inserted in it, like the effect of a toxin.
"I-I'm sorry, I was sleeping and-"
"Do you know how many times we called you...?" (Y/n) gulped at the voice filled with low malice.
"S-Seventeen from all of you..."
"Yes...and how many times did you ignore them?" The female shook her head in a frenzy to explain her excuse before any actions would be dealt.
"No, no. I didn't hear it, please Kaito."
"Do you think I'm bluffing you stupid girl? I didn't quite expect this sort of retaliation from you but I guess it couldn't be helped." (Y/n) dug her fingers into the soft material of the sofa and unnervingly scratched her thigh.
"P-Please, it won't happen again. Just don't do anything." Her veins seemed to clog up and restrict all blood flow as the sound of soft chuckles emerged from the speakers.
"A bit too late for that, dear."
"W-what did you do?" The male took the moment to cherish the female's uneven breaths and frantic gasps. "Kaito, what the hell did you do?!"
"I simply asked Ryo to pay a visit to that senior. Nothing else." Adrenaline began to pump around in the female's body as she quivered uncontrollably as images of her friend being put under such risk flashed her mind.
"Kaito, what did you do?!"
"You'll find out soon, darling~" With a hinting laugh, he cut the girl off, leaving her in dismay with frantic expectations.
(Y/n) ran up to her temporary bedroom and dug around the covers for the old phone her friends had left her with, to contact them. As she flung sheets uncaringly around the room, the small device fell to the floor with a slight clank and the girl quickly reached out for it. She was aware the twins would be in the middle of lunch at that moment, so they should be free to answer her calls. As the rings were passed through, a sense of uneasiness swept over the female's mind, gliding each praying whisper of hope. "Hello?"
"Lala, listen, could you tell me if anything happened in school or to you guys?" The twin was slightly taken by surprise at the panicked tones of her friend's vocals and took a moment to think of a response.
"Well, nothing happened really, why?" A second of relief started to build up as her worries slowly evaporated at the sound of good news.
"Thank goodness. So nothing happened to any of you or Summer?"
"Oh..." (Y/n) twitched at the response she was given and kept the speaker glued to her ear. "Well, Summer had an accident and an ambulance had to be called up to take her away."
(Y/n) was on the brink of blacking out from this new insight and had to forcibly steady herself against a surface. "W-What happ-happened?" She managed to stutter out, holding back a vomiting sensation rising in her chest.
"She had fallen down those long stairs that lead to the roof. I don't know much but that entire area was put under quarantine and Summer had to go to the hospital." (Y/n) quickly hung up on her friend's explanation and dashed to the first floor. She quickly put on her shoes and had a moment of hesitance as she reached the front door. Shaking the doubts and fear elsewhere, (Y/n) ran out of the door on her way to get some answers.

The girl found some security at the thought that the males would still be in the school, so she could walk around without the constant worry of getting spotted. She had taken a bus as a quick way of travel to her destination, and made sure to sit at the very back and instinctively slouch down to downplay her presence.
When the hospital was in clear view, she hastily got out of the vehicle and ran towards the front entrance, looking around warily before entering.
"Hello, how can I help you?" The receptionist regarded the girl while multitasking with a pile of papers and computer notifications.
"U-Uuhhmm, I'm here to visit a friend of mine. Summer Simone- she was registered here this morning, right?" While (Y/n) shared her concern, the woman behind the desk quickly tapped away at her keyboard and recognition appeared on her features.
"Ah, yes, she was brought here at 10:47 am. Are you a relative of hers?" The teenager became stumped at the question, beads of sweat forming on her brow due to a number of factors.
"W-Well, I-"
"Don't worry, she's with me." (Y/n) turned to the side to gently smile at the woman that granted her permission to witness her friend's condition. The older woman was recognised to be the hospitalised girl's mother, and (Y/n) could see the exhaustion and worn look in the adult's eyes that could be an effect from fresh tears. The receptionist nodded at the woman's consent and returned to her working space. (Y/n) was kindly beckoned to join the parent.
"Thank you, Miss Simone." The woman gave an ephemeral, kind smile before her features sagged at the remembrance of her position and sadly gazed down towards the tiled floor.
"I'm happy that you're here, I know you're sick and everything so it was very polite of you to visit Summer." (Y/n) nodded, slight guilt tugging on her heart to the bluff of her ailment.
"No, she's my friend, of course I would come...how is she doing?" A slight huff came out from the adult and a chuckle of lamentation emerged from her throat.
"The doctor said that she had fractured ribs and joints. The most damage was done to her head, but he said if she shows positive signs of recovery, there won't be any need for surgery." The female started to slightly quiver at the reflection of her friend having to suffer due to her incompetence. "I have hope, so I know our girl will make it through. She doesn't know when to give up, right?" The woman playfully nudged the teenager who returned it with a frisky grin.
As the adult opened the door to the recovery room for the girl, she received her first glance of the bed-bound senior.
For some reason, (Y/n) had imagined the injured girl to be showing her trademark smile in her unconscious form, almost eluding to the idea that she was experiencing a calming dream, or simply rejoicing to the miracle that she was still alive. But the female was not lucky enough to be granted with the peaceful, slumbering form of her friend on a single white bed. Instead, she was graced with the sight of medical machines, tubes and monitors emerging and entering the girl's body, in resolution to stabilise her condition and keep her breathing. Instead of her always cheerful face, a layer of a lifeless frown covered the old image of the happy student from before. Black and blue bruises decorated her naked hands and face where her body had hit each stair on the way down, and a long bandage wrapped around her head. (Y/n) knew her hair had to be shaved off in order to check on the wound, further distancing the older girl's appearance from what (Y/n) was used to seeing.
"I-I'll go get some coffee." The older woman left the girl to watch over her friend. There were only the sounds of distant footsteps in the distant corridors and the beeping of the heart monitor to fill in the quiet void of the room. (Y/n) carefully approached the bedded girl, under the paranoia she would disturb her recovery if the volume of any sound rises. As she came to stand beside the bed did she take notice of a few stitches on her arms and the scratches on her face.
She swallowed back her building up anxiety and decided to kneel down to the floor in a crouching position to come closer to her friend. She carefully reached out her quivering hand and wrapped her shaking fingers around the Summer's unmoving ones. "You still look so beautiful Summer...only you can survive all of that and come out looking like sleeping beauty, hehe..." Despite the forced chuckle, her vision gradually became obstructed by the upcoming sorrow and guilt. "...it's weird seeing you so still...usually you're all over the place but now..." She coughed out the suffocating lump in her throat, causing a few tears to spill out. As all her grief and pain accumulated into her eyes she gently sobbed into the quiescent girl, hoping she could hear her cries and grant her some sort of forgiveness. "I'm so sorry...I'm so sorry. You don't deserve this...this is all because of me...everything is because of me." The girl wiped away her last few tears and got up. "I'll come back again Summer. I'll come back until you recover, and keep you company. It's so quiet and boring here, you must be so annoyed. So you better have that smile next time I visit, alright?" She massaged her head as she left the room to get a fresh breath of air. 'What now...?'
As the female turned to head for the outside she spotted a somewhat familiar figure turning a corner. She tried to take a good look at who it was before they left but didn't manage to see as they walked out of view. She quickly, broke into a run to catch up with the person.
As she turned the corner, her suspicions were fortunately correct, and ran faster to reach the person. "U-Uhm, excuse me?!" The person in question unsurely turned around to see the breathless girl walking up to them. "You're Summer's cousin, right? Constable Bell?" The older man slightly squinted at the teenager's appearance until recognition seeped in.
"Oh yes, you're Miss (L/n). I remember, you're one of Summer's friends right?" The pair shook hands, remembering each other from past encounters. "I really appreciate you coming to check on my cousin. My aunt is a strong woman but even she needs a bit of comfort, especially after what just happened." He gave a saddening shaking of his head until looking back at the distressed girl. "So what can I do for you?"
The girl did a retake of why she ran after him in the first place and quickly scanned over her next words in her brain to make sure they sounded plausible. "I actually want to talk about Summer's accident...I think someone might have hurt her on purpose." The officer tilted his head at the claim, seeming sceptical but interested in the new information. "I-I think it was made to look like an accident but I-"
"Oh -hold on- hey man, I'm surprised to see you here." He pointed a finger to the girl to signal a pause in her speech and looked past the female to a third figure. (Y/n) huffed at the interruption and looked back to see who intruded on her important confession, to feel the blood leave her face at the sight of the new person.
"Yeah, I came for a check up." Jin casually walked up to the pair with a welcoming smile, while the girl shakily stepped back. "I'm so happy to see you here, (Y/n)." He put all his focus to the frightened female and gently grinned at the person he had been yearning to view since their last encounter.
"I just want you to know, me and the rest of the crew really appreciated your parents' help on last year's case, so thank you." The boy nodded at the words, still refusing to rip his gaze away from the girl.
"N-No! Sir, you can't trust him! Him and his friends were the cause of Summer's accident!" The man was amazed at the teenager's statement and nearly laughed at the absurd idea of the speculation. "Please, they've been harassing me for the past few days and have been threatening my friends, for God knows how long. And I know that they did something to Summer." By that point, the officer could only stare at the girl with much scepticism and scratched his head at how to defuse the situation.
"And do you have evidence to back up this claim?" The female ceased her words of assault and trembled back in defeat.
"I-I don't have that...but I have a phone they gave me, and keep calling me, and-"
"So they gave you phone that they keep harassing you on, but you didn't get rid of it?" He debunked the girl's logic, causing her thoughts to blur and blend with each other, with incoherent thoughts submerging.
"T-They said they would hurt my friends if I did and-and..." (Y/n) slumped as the man slowly began shaking his head in doubt at the female's call.
"Miss (L/n), I'm very familiar with the group of boys I think you're talking about, especially Jin. I can't see them doing any of this, unless there's some sort of evidence or plausible reason you can give me. Do you have the phone on you, right now?" The girl bowed her head at her unprepared state and gently shook her negative answer.
"I-it's back at my friends' place, b-but I can bring it, I'll find proof of what they're doing, I know I will-"
"Constable, I'll take care of my friend here, so don't worry." Jin gingerly placed his hands on the girl's shoulders while (Y/n) flinched away at the slightest contact.
"Don't touch me! I don't want anything to do with you!" To the boy's disappointment and insult, she backed away from him in a disgusted manner.
"Miss please, you're causing a disturbance." The older man tried to sooth the girl's alter nerves to no avail.
"No! I'm so close to finally giving them the payback they deserve, you can't trust him!"
"Constable, I'll handle this, just give me a second." The boy calmly approached the panicked female and had to abrasively clasp onto the girl's wrist to stop her from escaping, and brought her body close to his own.
"Don't touch me! Stay away!" She wriggled around the male's grasp as he placed his lips against the girl's ear, taking enjoyment at the close proximity of her frame.
"If you want the girl to continue breathing, settle down." As all the tissues in the female's muscles tensed, she stiffened at the boy's threat and stopped her struggling. "There we go Constable. Please excuse my friend, she's been sick for the past few days and after her friend's accident, it might have sent her a little over the edge. Isn't that right, (Y/n)?" The girl reluctantly approved while the policeman understandingly nodded.
"Alright, I'm glad she's simmered down then. Goodbye Jin, goodbye (Y/n)." He politely waved to both the teenagers as he retired back to run his own errands.
'When did he get the authority to call her by her first name...' When the man had fully left the scene did Jin take the opportunity to closely embrace the shaken female and was enticed into grazing his cheek against her soft hair. "I can finally hold you, (Y/n)~" the female shoved the boy off of her and back up.
"Stay away from me! How could you...?! How could you do that to her?!"
"I didn't do anything, (Y/n)." He innocently coked his head to the side, clueless to the girl's accusations.
"I don't care if it was you, or Kaito or Ryo! You're all working together on this which involves you in everything they do!" Jin gave a saddened look towards the female's words.
"I don't see why you're so morse about this. You should be happy for her." (Y/n) stared at the boy as though he had spoken in a completely different language and took time to comprehend how naturally he spoke of a subject as serious as this.
"How could you say that?!"
"I mean, most people would have severely broken their neck and shattered their spine after a fall like that. And even if they do survive they would most likely remain paralysed for the rest of their lives. She should consider herself lucky." He faultlessly smiled at the astounded girl, causing even more emotional confusion for her.
"You actually tried to kill her...you actually tried to murder someone..." She dreadfully walked back, refusing to take her eyes off the male that had so calmingly spoken about the death of her friend.
"I didn't do anything, (Y/n). I had nothing to do with her accident-"
"Don't you dare call this an accident! You know what happened! I'll never...I'll never forgive any of you for this!" Jin's body slightly quivered at the tone that his darling was speaking with and his orbs moistened at her stinging words.
"I-I didn't do anything...please don't say that..." He scrunched up his body as a means of self-comfort but the girl's glare pearled through his invisible defences.
"I wish that was you in that bed...then, at least, I would have one less problem to worry about." The brunet clenched his jaw as each statement directly attacked his naked heart and played with his mind.
"I-I'm sorry, (Y/n)...I didn't want you to get hurt...please, don't hate me." Tears quickly began forming at the boy's retinas but failed to gain any sympathy from the hardened girl.
"No, you will never be sorry. You will never be sorry enough, to be excused from this...not you, not Kaito, not Ryo, not Bako, not Ren, not Alex...none of you will ever be sorry enough for doing this." (Y/n) condemningly shook her head as disgust rose from her hatred.
"Please don't say that, (Y/n). I could never bear it if you hate me..." But none of his pleads reached the girl and she ended up scornfully glaring at him like a judge of guilt.
"Yeah? Well bear this." She turned on her heels, worrying very little if he would follow or snatch her. She had said what had been lingering on her tongue, desperate to come out in the form of speech. Now that her confidence had been boosted, she heavily walked out of the building, laving the sorrowful boy to deal with the grief of her dialog.
Jin silently stood still with the girl's words circulating through his mind, scraping against his sanity and eroding chunks of his brain. 'I can't...I can't let her hate me...I can't take this. I can't allow my darling (Y/n) to feel like this towards me.'
