Chapter 23: Study Session
"I-is this really necessary?" (Y/n) asked as she tried to get into a more comfortable position in the animal lover's lap. Ryo kept on sending the boy deathly glares at the fact that he wouldn't let her sit even an inch close to him and ended up assigning her a place in his own arms.
"Yes." Was his blunt answer and showed no signs of continuing the explanation.
"YOU WEREN'T EVEN SUPPOSED TO BE HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE!" Ryo exaggeratedly shouted but didn't seem to have an effect on the serious boy. "Why do you have your arms around (Y/n)?! Answer me that?!" He pointed at the embrace Alex was giving the girl with evident, begrudging irritation.
"To keep her safe." Ryo began getting more and more angered as he further watched the way Alex had his hands tightly wrapped around the girl's body as his head rested on her back, much like the way you would see a couple in romance movies acting.
"That's it! Get out-" the carob eyed male was about to forcefully dismiss his quiet friend when he was interrupted by a person swinging his bedroom door open.
"(Y/n), would you like me to get you something to drink?" Ren appeared with his kind smile directed at the girl but subliminal spiteful signals being sent at both the boys' direction.
"No, I'm fine." She told the male and he left with a disappointed frown. "Ok, so you say you're having a tough time with algebra, but it's really more simple than-" she was interrupted by another visit from a different male.
"(Y/n), do you want something to eat? I can go prepare lunch for you if you want." Much like Ren, Bako also gave off the same subconscious vibe but was also politely dismissed by the girl and had to leave.
"As I was saying, what it all stacks up as, is-" A third interruption occurred as Kaito entered the scene.
"(Y/n), I'm aware that it's customary to ask a guest if they need any sort of necessities such as nourishments and materialistic things like pillows or entertainment. Do you wish for any of those things?" He attempted to ignore the gut-wrenching annoyance that came with the sight of Alex's tight hold on the girl.
"N-no I'm good, I promise." Kaito nodded and retreated back to the outside.
'Ok, now I'm positive they are doing this on purpose...' Ryo kept watching the door, expecting any second for the cycle to repeat itself.
"A-anyway, for example, the subject in this formula is 's' so you have to find-"
"(Y/n), I made juice, do you want some?" Ren appeared with a jug and glasses of, what looked like orange juice.
"Hey! You either come in or you stay out!" Ryo angrily shouted at the new company while Ren kept his usual gracious smile.
"Alright, make room for one more." The dark haired boy walked over to the group and sat himself beside (Y/n).
"I wasn't serious!" Ryo was getting to the point where he was going to start screaming everything he spoke. At that moment, another figure appeared at the door with a tray of light foods.
"I made sandwiches. Can I join too?" Bako looked at (Y/n) with a hopeful expression.
"No-!"
"Sure, the more the merrier I guess." She ushered him in and the boy took a seat on the opposite side of the table to face her.
'Wwhhyy angel...?' Ryo quietly pouted in the corner as his hopes of spending some alone time with his beloved angel were shattered like a fragile children's toy. Kaito soon enough entered the scene and made no attempt at asking for permission to stay but rather granted it himself and sat beside Bako. "Are half of you even here to study with us?" Ryo doubtfully looked at each one of the boys who had guilty expressions.
"We simply want to keep you guys company." Ren said and handed the boy a glass of juice.
"This is a study session. Not a sleepover." But the blond still took the drink despite his annoyance.
"So do you all need help with maths?" (Y/n) looked at each one individually and sighed. 'Talk about being put on the spot.'
Time Skip
"Do you all get how to find 'x' now?" Each of the boys nodded, "I'm looking at you Ryo, it took you 10 minutes to find 'y' after you found 'x'." The male in question enthusiastically nodded his head, concluding his understanding. "Alright, I guess my job here is done." The girl checked the time on her phone to see that it's only been 2 hours since she arrived at the house. "And there's still a bit more time to waste. So, where's Jin?"
"The poor guy is sleeping the fever away. But I doubt he would mind if you woke him up." Bako smiled and prepared to get up from his seat to take her to the ill boy, but was beaten to it.
"Let me show you where his room is." Ren placed his hand on the girl's back as he escorted her out of the door, with scathing looks tracking him from behind.
As the two walked towards Jin's whereabouts, (Y/n) got a chance to examine more of the unique surroundings and richly decorated halls. She was distracted with her exploration that she barely noticed when Ren came to a stop in front of a brown, oak door. "This is it. And don't worry, compared to his interests, Jin's room is pretty tamed." (Y/n) didn't understand what the boy had meant by that but got her answer as she entered through. (Y/n) had expected the shy male's room to be like a chamber of horror, based on how much he liked the genre but it simply had a scarce amount of posters on one side of the wall, and a few figurines lined up in neat order on a shelf. Besides that, the spacious room looked almost identical to Ryo's one: with a large, flat-screen TV; a giant, soft rug; a balcony that looked out on the endless garden; a personal bathroom; an extensive wardrobe and a few other common household items you would usually find in a bedroom. The whole picture seemed to elude that the boy was keeping his amusement to a minimum.
'Looks like he's leading some sort of double life or something.' The girl approached the bed, where there was an unmoving bump under the duvet to show that someone was inhabiting it. She hesitantly walked up to the silent lump until she could finally spot the boy's head peeking out from the layers of blankets. (Y/n) had to admit that -with the burning rudeness that engulfed the male's face and the exhausted rhythm of his breathing- the sick student looked like an innocent child to her. Ren walked up next to hear and gently patted his sleeping friend to bring him some consciousness.
"Jin. Wake up, we have company." After a few attempts, the slumbering boy began to stir and strained to open his emerald eyes. At first, he looked at the other male that was situated by his side and soon his gaze trailed towards the girl. He blinked a few times with his half-lidded eyes and coughed.
"Ren, I think you should up the dosage of my medicine. I'm starting to see things..." His voice sounded sore and tender as if he hadn't had a drop of hydration for days, though it was clearly not the case based on the number of pills and bottled water on his night stand.
(Y/n) chuckled at his request and patted the covers on the place where his chest is supposed to be, "Hey there buddy. How are you doing?" She gave him a warm smile. For a few moments, Jin seemed to not react at her presence but after having the scene replayed in his head, his face seemed to burn up even further to the point where it seemed to be glowing crimson. His eyes widened and he quickly ducked his head under the covers and out of view. (Y/n) snickered her history partner's child-like bashfulness and began silently giggling, and proceeded to rub and tickle the covers while the person underneath squirmed. She remained unaware of the dark-eyed boy behind her, feeling a strong sense of indignation towards her cheerful attitude towards his friend.
'She's never this playful with me...' Ren sighed and made an attempt to block out the gleeful chortles. He stayed at a distance from the two to give them some space but kept a watchful eye on them nonetheless.
"Jin, come on. I'll be going in a few minutes since I'm done with tutoring these guys, so the last stop is you." After that was said, the hidden boy stopped his squirming and steadily uncovered his face.
"You're really here...I'm so glad I got to see your face again (Y/n)." Jin gave her a bright smile before gradually drifting off to sleep seconds later.
"Come on (Y/n), let's leave him to rest." Ren took the girl's hand in his own to lead her out to the halls once again though in actual fact he simply resented how amused (Y/n) seemed with the boy that was currently restricted to bed. He wanted her to be that comfortable around him and not have this semi-professional relationship. He yearned for her affection and hoped he would soon receive it. But the musician was very much aware of the intentions of the other 5 boys of the house as well. It didn't take too long for him to pick up on the hints that were dropped every few seconds and was amazed that the girl didn't seem to catch on with the obvious clues being left for her. 'I need to further our relationship before the others get a chance...and with our partnership for the Halloween performance, that might just become possible.'
As the two arrived back to the original room, they heard very unusual sounds from the inside before they dared enter. When they built up the courage to set foot back inside, (Y/n) had to try her hardest not to laugh at the sight before her.
"RYO IF YOU SAY ONE SINGLE WORD TO (Y/N) ABOUT WHAT I TOLD YOU, MY HAND TO GOD, I WILL DROWN YOU IN YOUR OWN BLOOD!" Kaito was trying to reach over from the other side of the desk to snatch Ryo while Bako was doing his best to calm him down and restrain him. Ryo, however, was casually leaning back on his chair, with a sly smile plastered on his face, just inches out of reach from the intellectual's grasping hand. All the while Alex seeming completely detached from the argument, playing around with Fenrir on the floor.
(Y/n) shook her head in disapproval but held a smile towards their shenanigans. "Guys, I'll be leaving now so this is goodbye until Monday." After her words left her mouth, they had a visually immediate effect on the males as they stopped what they were doing and stared at her. It was as if this was the first time the thought of the girl leaving had occurred to them, and that realisation hit them like an oncoming train.
"W-wait! If it's because of their arguing this happens all the time, they'll stop now. Right, guys?" Bako turned towards the two boys in question and they nodded their heads in agreement, desperate to keep (Y/n) for as long as possible.
"No, it's not that, really. It's just that my work here is done. I have not other reason to stay further, plus I plan on going to my friends' house next." (Y/n) went over to where her bag was hung and reached out to take it and start on her next destination.
However, she did not prepare for the sensation of a cold and sticky liquid to start seeping and soaking her jeans and legs from out of nowhere.
"Whoops..."
The girl examined what happened and put together that the juice they had enjoyed until now was spilt in its entirety on her jeans, the fabric quickly absorbing the fluid. She looked behind with a stunned expression to see the culprit.
"Kaito, what the hell?!" She scowled at the guilty boy.
"I-I'm sorry (Y/n). This time, it was purely an accident." He held up his hands to show his confession was to be taken as truth.
"What am I supposed to do now?! I can't go anywhere looking like I had a toilet accident!" She took a step towards the boy, ready to give him some sort of physical repercussion for his wrong doing.
"Calm down (Y/n), I'll give you something of mine to wear and we'll get your stuff sorted in no time at all." Bako came up to the girl and despite her objections, managed to lead her out of Ryo's room and towards his own. Once she was gone, everyone's attention was turned towards the scarlet haired boy.
"A quick thinker as always Kaito." Ryo congratulated the genius on his successful ploy.
"The pleasure was all mine." He smugly smirked to himself, content with his success at buying some more time to spend with (Y/n).
