Chapter 19: Invitation
(Y/n) had to stealthily take the small dog back to its make-shift home, without her grandmother realising. The little den she kept the diminutive animal in was near a far corner of the backyard where she put a strong, cardboard box and old, raged pieces of materials and cloths and soft, pillow stuffing. All of this, hidden behind large shrubberies that hadn't been tended to ever since her settling in to the house. After making sure the pup had enough to eat and drink, she retreated back home before attracting any apprehensiveness.
"(Y/n)? Did you need something from the garden?" Her grandmother passed the girl a bag of crisps that she had bought thoughtfully for her granddaughter. (Y/n) smiled at the attentiveness of the elderly woman and took the snack.
"No, just checking if the flowers needed something." (Y/n) calmly told the first thing that came to her mind and nearly smacked herself in the head for her stupidity. Her grandmother furrowed her eyebrows and looked at the teenager with a knowing expression.
"It's the middle of autumn, we haven't planted flowers."
"Oh no? Well, maybe we could do it tomorrow, make a winter garden. You know, with the whole dome and stuff." She took the opportunity to run to her room while the older adult tried to process her granddaughter's words.
"I hope her friends feel better soon." She chuckled to herself when out of earshot.
(Y/n) closed the door to her room in a relieving manner, finally separating herself from the outside world and into her own. She took out her phone and began texting the twins while enjoying her junk food.
"How are you guys?"
"We're dying"
"That bad?"
"Don't listen to her, we'll be back for next week. It's much better now, thanks to your soup ^_^ "
The trio bantered between each other and (Y/n) made sure not to mention anything about the new comers and her progressive relationship with them, wanting to keep it a surprise for Monday. Her entire evening was spent on chatting with her friends and surfing the Internet and multitasking. She seemed to have this specific routine almost everyday and at around 11:30pm to 12:00am she would go to bed.
Just as she had got herself tucked under her covers, readying for sleep to take over and rest her mind, the (h/c) haired girl jumped in her dosing-off state, to the vibrations and sound her phone was causing. The girl got ready to scold her friends for playing such a tedious joke on her but that never came to happen. When she lazily checked who it might be, the number was unfamiliar to her. Usually she would have left it to ring until the person on the other end gave up, but this time she felt inclined to know who would be wringing her up at such an unheard hour. She accepted the number and half-sleepily spoke out to the caller. "Hello?"
"Hello, is this (Y/n)?" The person on the other end sounded familiar to the female and it was definitely apparent it was a boy.
(Y/n) rubbed some of the sleepiness in her eyes and groggily answered, "Yeah, who's calling?"
"Take three guesses~" the male chirped on the other end with a playful tone.
(Y/n) took a moment in order to be in a woken enough state to play along in this sharada. "Platypus boy?" She became too exhausted to remind herself of his name and placed her head back down on the pillow.
"Close enough, angel. Just wanted to give you a heads up on waking up earlier tomorrow."
The girl squinted at the confusing favour, "Why?"
"Because if you don't, I'll drag you early to school again, just like this morning." Through the speaker came out a child-like tone but weaved in his words was a threat towards her fitness skills.
Not wanting to delay her sleep any further, (Y/n) simply answered: "Ok, ok, just let me sleep. I'll wake up earlier for whatever reason."
"I knew you wouldn't disappoint, sweet dreams angel." Ryo mused out through the other end.
(Y/n) hung up and set up her new alarm to only fall back in her original sleeping position and relax with ought a disturbance. Just as slumber began to peacefully take away her consciousness and right before the moment (Y/n) found herself paralysed and asleep, a thought crossed her half conscious mind: 'How did he get my number?'
Friday September 18th
(Y/n)'s grandmother was quite surprised to see the girl wide awake at a much earlier hour of the morning. "Why so early? You're still asleep around this time."
"I just decided to go early, I have have something to do at school soon." (Y/n) kept the reasons inconspicuous just for the sake of avoiding a flurry of questions.
When (Y/n) began walking at her usual rout towards school, she couldn't help but feel a chilling sensation circulating through her blood for the dozenth time that week. She stopped in her tracks and rotated to examine her surroundings. The street only held a selective number of people going to work, and deprived of any students. She examined the area a number of times but found nothing of interest.
So the student was given no other option than to turn around and follow along with her walk. Just as she took a step in the usual direction she skidded to a stop, realising the large form in front of her. "God!" (Y/n) unintentionally squealed as surprise defused her brain. In front of her was the boy that had interrupted her night prior to this morning, holding a cheerful grin to welcome the startled girl.
"If that's the case then follow me, my angel." He happily took the female's hand and started walking along with her like she was some sort of mischievous child. (Y/n) attempted to tug away from the boy's grasp in a panicked demeanour.
"Hey, let go. If someone sees us they might get the wrong idea! You don't know how rumours fly around in our school, it's like an airport." She was especially tense due to her knowledge of how Hiroko was surveillanceing the boys at every move.
"Don't worry, none who we know would be out this early in the morning. So your reputation is safe." Ryo reassured her but didn't really effect her guard. "Besides, doesn't it feel much warmer just like this?" He progressively tightened his hold on the girl which made her feel more bashful than intended.
'This is so embarrassing. I haven't held hands with someone like this since I was 10. Well....accept with one person.' (Y/n) sighed and gave up on trying to break free from the male's iron grip. "So what did you need from me at this time?"
"Hm? Oh, nothing. I just enjoy walking and talking with you." He said with a gaiety demeanour.
"...Is this a joke?" When he happily shook his head from side to side, (Y/n) glared at him. "Not to be rude, but you can't just ask a person to wake up in the wee-hours of the morning just because you wanted to 'walk-and-talk.'" (Y/n) noticed his hold on her was looser than before so she took the chance to jerk her hand out of his fingers and walk the opposite direction. Ryo turned towards her retreating form with a confused expression.
"Where are you going?"
"Home, if I'm lucky I might have just enough time to catch a quick nap before I get going again. I don't care what I have to say to my grandmother, I'll just tell her-" (Y/n) cut her words out when she felt a strong grip on both her shoulders from behind, forcing the muscles in her legs to contract and tense up at the unexpecting contact.
"So you want to leave me?" (Y/n) gulped at the change of tone and pitch the boy used to speak his words. The emotion put into them sounded nothing like what the (e/c) eyed female would hear from the always-smiling boy. It unnerved her the way he had his lips hovering inches away from her ear, sending his warm breath to caress her neck. It felt intimidating and unlike the Ryo, (Y/n) had come to know. Though this situation did remind her of the even of when she told him off on his nickname for her. She didn't dare speak out or make a word, falling under the delusion that if she stood still he couldn't see her. The (e/c) eyed girl then sensed the boy inching his head closer to her own, "Then I guess I have no choice...I'm just going to have to kidnap you." After those words were whispered, the golden haired male took the girl's wrist once more and started jogging quickly towards their assigned direction.
"Wh-what are you...doing?!" (Y/n) managed to blurt out between pants and huffs from the speed she was being forced to endure.
"I'm kidnapping you for school!" He mocked her. (Y/n) didn't know what to make out of this.
'I'm now completely positive he just likes dragging people around.'
Time skip
After going through the equivalent to PE, (Y/n) began wheezing for breath at the school gates, sure that this had been the earliest time she had arrived to the school on a normal day. She looked up at the gleeful boy in front of her who hadn't even broken a sweat since the marathon he forced her into. 'How fit is this guy?!' (Y/n) grudgingly thought and took a moment to catch a proper rhythm of breathing. "What do you want?"
"Come on, let's go to my favourite place." He avoided the question and started pushing the weakened girl into the school building.
As (Y/n) had guessed, he concluded his journey at the same door of mystery as yesterday. Though, she was still quite fascinated at the whole scenario, even when she was standing in the room once again she couldn't believe this was real life. It almost seemed like a dream, or a hallucination. 'Hell, maybe this is Narnia.' She turned her attention back to the blond she was currently dealing with, "What's this whole room about? Do you have some sort of hobby?"
"Sort of, I'm absolutely entranced by the theatre and movies and plays and just acting in general." To (Y/n), Ryo seemed entranced merely by talking about it. "I guess it's pretty obvious what I'm striving to become." He gave her his trademark grin and walked up to her. "What are your thoughts on it, though?" He looked at the girl's (e/c) intently, as if valuing her opinion amongst all.
Being put on the spot was common ground for (Y/n) so she quickly thought up of an answer, "I think it's great. Especially with someone who is as enthralled and fanatic as you. I think you'll definitely have the passion and heart whenever a role is given to you. So I hope you achieve what you want." Honest and satisfied with her answer she went over to inspect a couple of half-opened boxes, unsuspecting of the playful and fascinated gaze the blond was sending her way. "By the way, I was meaning to ask you. What happened to Jin? I didn't see him yesterday." Ryo looked slightly disappointed that the (h/c) haired girl averted the subject to one of his friends.
"Yeah, he got a terrible cold." Ryo shook his head in pity for the shy boy.
"What happened?"
"He was waiting outside a video store for the whole night because they were releasing the Saw movie with a signed autograph and a 3D cover. So you could say he had it coming." The male chuckled at his own friend's idiotic actions and looked back to (Y/n), "At least he got the movie and a free toy monster."
"Toy monster?"
"He was the first customer of that day, what do you expect?" (Y/n) knelt down to rummage through the boxes and came out with a mask of a demon.
"I bet he would love this." She admired the well made prop.
"And I bet you'd look good in this." He held up an ornate, dark blue dress with lace decorating the edges and sleeves, finished off with ribbons strewed around the hem and shoulders. It was quite appealing to the eyes and was complimented well with the face gems, stones and darkly coloured jewels scattered about on the collar. Ryo quickly realised what he had said and nervously began rambling on, "I-I mean, October is coming up and all, so you can dress up as a princess or a maiden from the dark ages or a queen who rules over her subjects or-"
"Ryo! I get it. It's very nice, I'll consider it for Halloween." (Y/n) reassured the the boy and earned a coy smile out of him.
"Alright, I want a reservation." He suddenly exclaimed and got up close to the female's face in a demanding manor.
"Reservation?" It was (Y/n)'s turn to be caught off guard, "To what? The dress?"
"For lunch time of course! I want you to sit with me during lunch time!" He watched the girl's expression evolve from one of confusion, to surprise to amusement.
"Haha, so is that how you planned it out?" She stood up and walked over to the door.
He soon followed her lead and bounded up to his friend, "Yes, so what do you say?"
(Y/n) thought for a while at his proposal, "I'll consider it, so don't get your hopes up too high." But even that response seemed to lift him off the ground.
"Great! Oh, and one more thing. You see, since I'm not as capable at this Bermuda-Triangle you call maths, I was wondering: you wouldn't mind coming over to my house during the weekend, would you? To tutor me and stuff, since you seem the 'teacher' type. Plus, Jin would really be happy with your presence so you can also visit him." This however, made the (h/c) haired girl think more carefully at the new proposition. It was true, she had built up a sort of close friendship with the boy but she wasn't sure if it warranted as close enough for going to each others's houses. But she soon dismissed that thought as looking too deeply into things and shrugged.
"Sure, give me the address and I'll visit if I have the free time." She casually said, as if she actually had any special plans for the weekend.
Ryo beamed at her agreement and took out a pen, notebook and scribbled down what, (Y/n) could guess, as the address to his house. "Wonderful! I'll be expecting you."
(Y/n) shook her head mockingly at the new student's cockiness and took the the piece of paper. A few moments later, a bell's vibrations entered the hearing range of the two students. "Ok, see you maybe at lunch time." She patted the boy's shoulder and left him on his own.
When he was sure that's none was around to hear him, he ecstatically punched the air to relieve some of his joy. "Yes!" He simmered down after his outburst and began humming a playful tune, 'I finally won over my angel's time! Now I can have her all to myself for a whole hour, just as longs as the others are busy.'
He securely locked the door under no suspecting eye and casually walked off with an indulged smile.
