Chapter 16: Ignorance and Arrogance
It didn't even take one minute for (Y/n) to sit down in her seat before her new classmate found a chair beside her. "Morning (Y/n). How's it been so far?" The girl sighed and wondered what would the appropriate response to his question.
"Dramatic to say the least." Bako chuckled when his eye got caught by something sparkling on the girl. At closer inspection, it looked like bits of glitter and small tufts of feathers.
"What happened to you?" (Y/n) confusingly brushed her hand through her messy, (h/c) hair and noticed what the boy was wondering about.
"Oh, this? Must be from what Ryo and I did in the closet." The girl giggled at her own bungling but the cerulean boy was far from happy. A sickening feeling of betrayal and displeasure overtook his senses and clouded his mind, sending him into inner corners of his reality. He couldn't believe that (Y/n) would spend, what seemed like, a large amount of time together and then seem so joyful about that. Moreover, the girl's use of little description only added to Bako's already paranoid state.
'Closet? What closet? What would they be doing in a closet? Why does she look so scruffy? No...she wouldn't, (Y/n) is too innocent and nice to do such obscene things....but Ryo-' Bako was brought back to Earth when he felt contact on his skin. The (e/c) eye'd female was flicking the boy's cheek to bring life back into his eyes and gave him a flummoxed expression. "Sorry, my mind wondered." He excused himself and gave a heartening smile. Despite being sceptic, (Y/n) didn't want to get into his personal business so she simply engaged in idle chatter with the new student until lessons started.
Time Skip
(Y/n) tried not to grimace when the crimson haired, orotund boy took a seat when Saki used to study/nap during social studies. "What are you doing?" She tried to say it in the most mannered way she could possibly muster but simply came out as passive-aggressive. However, Kaito ignored her hissing tone and made himself comfortable in his seat.
"I'm her so I can have a partner for the lesson." Despite the statement being true, it was only partly the reason the pompous intellectual sat next to the girl. Even though he doesn't wasn't to admit it -even to himself- he wanted to gather a more consistent and reliable database on the girl. "By the way: question number 5 is wrong." (Y/n) looked at her book and annoyingly scratched the answer out. "And that's not how you spell 'derogatory.'" Once again, the girl scribbled the word out with irritable energy, "And that's not where you draw the-"
"Ok, if your going to be doing THIS all throughout the class, I'm going to stab this pen through your eye and then mine." The boy wasn't phased by the girl's words but kept quiet to grant her wish. Though, during her teacher's lectures (Y/n) kept noticing her partner's icy gaze lingering on her. But everytime she glanced his way he would avert his eyes anywhere else beside her. After a few minutes of the irksome game, the female couldn't take any of more of the staring, "What?!" She swiftly turned her head as fast as she could before Kaito had the chance of looking away and belligerently whispered the question.
"What?" The male innocently questioned the girl's inquiry.
"Why do you keep looking at me?"
"I have done no such thing." Kaito put on a facade of offence and cluelessness.
"Yes you have-!" But before (Y/n) could further contradict him, her teacher swivelled in her direction and gave her a daring look to warn the irritated girl to be silent. "Sorry Miss..." She hung her head in shame and glared at the 'faultless' boy.
After the confrontation with the teacher, (Y/n) proceeded to ignore the student next to her and began concentrating on her work. Seeing the girl's reluctance to indulge his amusement, Kaito felt inclined to win her attention over. "That's not the right-"
"If you say anything I'll move seats." It wasn't a threat or a spur of anger at the moment, but it came off as a claim that quietened the boy.
"...." The red haired male was becoming more and more unsettled at his restricted desires. Sighing laboredly at this, he went on to quickly finish his assignment before any of the other students. This gave him extra time to stare at his partner who was putting forth her best act of ignorance towards him. He instead gazed down at her book and cringed at the multiple minor and major mistakes she was making in her work. The male didn't know weather to snigger or shake his head.
Right when (Y/n) was in the middle of doing a question, her book disappeared from under her and reappeared in her temporary partner's hand. "What are you-?"
"Ssshh! I can't bear to look at this anymore." she watched him going over every single answer and making corrections and comments to each one.
'Gosh, he's like the teacher you never wanted.' (Y/n) snatched the book from him when the boy handed it back. "Thank you." She bluntly said and looked at the pages covered in green pen.
"Very well, I'll be expecting you in the reading room at lunch." The (h/c) haired teenager looked at the genius, confused as to what he meant.
"What?"
"Well, I helped you with your work, so it's only customary you assist me with my own." The (e/c) eyed girl kept staring at him boggled.
"When did I say I'll help you?" Her temper was beginning to come out of it's dormant state and she was getting ready to retaliate against the arrogant wit.
"Well, if I recall correctly, when one gives a hand to a person then that proclaims the other person in their debt." The girl's eye twitched like the hands of a broken clock, having too many words to say in such a short way.
"Well, excuse me but I never agreed on helping you nor did you do anything that's worthy of me wasting my time with your schemes." Satisfied with her argument, she relaxed back in her chair, feeling slightly pleased with herself to finally stand up to the new student.
"Ungrateful brat." Kaito whispered loud enough to be heard from the female next to him.
"You-!" (Y/n) literally bit down on her tongue, realising the presence that was standing right behind her. Pins and needles spread through her back realising what position she was in at that moment. She was wracking her brain to think up of a proper excuse to explain herself - knowing she wouldn't believe it if she blamed Kaito- such as the past few times, but her brain was simply blocked with rage, fear, worry and surprise.
"(Y/n), I will not tolerate this behaviour! Your going to stay with me during lunch time for a detention, do you understand?" Her teacher was glaring impatiently at her and waited for the gagged up girl's response.
"Actually Miss, it was my fault. She simply wanted to do her work but I kept nagging her weather she needed some help. If anyone should be put up for detention, it is me." Even his teacher seemed wordless at the claim and kept shifting her gaze from the ruby boy and his, equally confused partner.
"A-alright...just don't cause any more disruption, I know class is almost finished but please have patience." With nothing more to say, Miss Gumi left the two students alone.
Inwardly sighing, (Y/n) felt warm breath grazing her neck. With a low, pleased tone, a voice was heard through the chilling sensation in the girl's gut. "I guess you owe me one~" (Y/n) shoved the boy off and pinched his thigh to warn him only for him to merely shrugged and smiled to himself.
"Screw you, I'm not spending anything with you, much less my time."
The teacher called for all the students to pack up and prepare to leave. (Y/n) put all her things into her bag and got ready to walk away from her temporary partner when her arm was tugged back from the hand she disliked. She stifled a yelp that was caused by the surprising strength the boy was presenting. "Don't out me just like that (Y/n). I get what I want, and will be waiting for you in the hubs." The girl attempted to pull her hand out of the male's grasp in a panicked motion and looked around to check if anyone else was seeing what was occurring. Kaito's teal eyes gained a darker shade to them and gridded his teeth at the distracted girl "Hey, look at me!" He gripped her shoulder with his free hand to grab her attention." You look at me when I'm speaking to you. When I say something I want your eyes pointed at only me, (Y/n)."
"Let go of me!" The crimson haired boy seemed to come to a spontaneous realisation and took a moment to process his actions. The second he realised what he was doing he hastily released her from his hold, with the gears in his mind still turning to comprehend his behaviour.
Looking even more stunned than the female teen who was now rubbing her wrist to bring back the blood rush. "I-I apologise....please forget this ever happened."
The girl watched her assailant sprint out of the room and pushing past a few students to escape. She checked if he was still around to only begin to wonder what went down. 'Why is my week beginning to feel like a psychological thriller?' She tried to ignore the occurrence and move on to her next class and do as the boy instructed. 'People get angry. I'll just let this pass this time.'
Kaito stopped himself when he felt the trepidation drowning from his body through his muscles. He leaned against the wall, trying to gain his breath from the physical exhaustion he endured. 'What the hell is wrong with me?! Have I finally lost my mind...? That girl! That stupid girl! It's all her fault. Who does she think she is, talking back to me like that? I'll show her. I'll show her I'm not someone to be ignored. I'll have those pretty (e/c) eyes looking at me and paying attention to what I say. I'll have her.' The intellectual shook his head to rid the new and unexpected thoughts coming his way. 'Damn it, I need a break.' He walked away, struggling to forget the unfamiliar emotions that surreptitiously were invading his subconscious.
