Chapter 15: Secret Drama
Thursday September 17th
(Y/n) made the smart decision of taking her jacket with her this time, and paced up the road to school. She appeared to be in a good mood thanks to her tour to the twins' house and how they seemed delighted to see their friend with food. Sadly, (Y/n) could only get at a certain distance with ought risking catching the infectious cold, and the two sisters looked tired from the kerfuffle so the female decided to just leave the food for them and give a quick greeting and departure.
Though she misses her friends in and outside of school, (Y/n) had enjoyed learning a bit about her new class mates and their attitudes. Unfortunately, she started feeling the paranoid sensation of being observed once again, the girl started sense the presence of someone -not somewhere imaginary- but beside her. The (e/c) eyed student would have ignored the person -since it was normal to see other teenagers and kids on the way to school- had she not spotted the golden curls reflecting the morning light. The surprised female swiftly turned her whole body to face the suddenly turned up male. He laughed mockingly at her startled expression and patted her on the head, ruffling her neatly made hair. "Don't patronise me! Where did you come from?!" After sorting the messy, (h/c) locks, she looked around herself to check where he had appeared from when a darker realisation overtook her. "Have you been watching me all this time?" She knew it was a far fetched idea, in her mind he could have just been passing by and merely spotted her, but the way he had silently walked right behind her and the demeanour he possessed as he closely watched her rubbed the female the wrong way.
There was swift flash of panic in the boy's features but they smoothed out as he put on a confident smile, "What are you talking about angel, it's just a wonderful coincidence." (Y/n) took a moment to become cognisant of the term he used when referring to her.
"Angel?" The girl stared at the boy, nonplussed at her realisation.
"Don't flatter yourself, I give everyone nicknames." He gave her a reassuring smile, making sure to mask his anxiousness behind the nonchalant grin. The female began walking again -deep in thought and consideration at the supposed compliment- while the buoyant goof continued with her.
"Thank you....? But, why would you give me the label of-"
"(Y/n)! Do you know what the time is?! We must be running late, let's catch up with all the other people!" He grabbed the girl's hand and started to jog towards the school, hauling the stunned female after him.
Time Skip
When the pair finally reached the gate of Toritsukimasu High, the girl ripped her hand from the loquacious teenager's grip, taking the moment to catch her breath and check the time on the phone. She nearly snapped at that moment, but was too exhausted to even switch to her angry self. "We have 50 minutes before school starts! I'm 30 minutes earlier than usual." But what added to the girl's activation was the response Ryo gave her.
"Oops." She stared at him with a blanc expression, trying to decide what emotion she should exhibit that resembles what she is feeling right at that moment. But after a while of hopeless endeavouring to express her rage, she gives up on herself and decides to walk away from the indifferent male. Ryo noticed this and immediately followed pursuit, "If your upset that you have nothing to do, I don't mind hanging out with you." The blond joined the exasperated girl with a mellow smile, but she was having none of that.
"I'll be fine on my own." (Y/n) tried to repress her anger and made it blunt she needed to be left on her lonesome.
"Come on angel, don't be upset. At least you won't be late for any of your classes." He playfully poked her in the arm and cheek, but that just seemed to only be playing on her patience.
"Please don't call me that. I appreciate the gesture but it's weird." Ryo's mood took a completely different direction with ought him even noticing at first. His features dripped and the aura around him seemed to darken the whole hall, forcing the few students that were present at that time, to avoid the area like an exploding time bomb. (Y/n) caught onto the change in attitude and swallowed loudly. "N-Not that I don't like it. It's really sweet." She tried to speak with the most genuine tone, and thankfully the nettled boy seemed to lighten up and crack a smirk.
"In that case, let's go!" Like a repeat of what had gone down just yesterday, he snatched (Y/n) by the wrists and made swift strides around the school. The girl began thinking this was some sort of habit of his to take people on a wild goose chase. But this time the journey was short as they came to a halt in front of door that said 'Broom Closet: Staff Only.'
".....it's just a storage room." The girl inspected the door to see what was so special about the pice of wood, but found nothing of interest.
"Yes, but it's not just any storage room. It's a broom closet! A closet that will lead us to the snowy land of Narnia!" He threw his arms wide in a cheer stance, bursting with glee while (Y/n) stared at the boy.
"....I'm leaving."
"Wait wait wait wait wait! Ok, maybe it's not the closet to Narnia," the girl shot him a sarcastic look, "but it's something just as good! Let me show you." Ryo took out a key from his trouser pocket and fitted it into the lock of the mystery door.
"Wait, it says 'staff only.' You can't do that." She was about to escalate into a full rant over him respecting the school rules and valuing the performance the cleaners do to preserve the building, but in reality she also wanted a reason to yell at him to get rid of the pent up anger she was holding in. However, before she got the chance to utter another word a finger came up to her lips to silence her oncoming rant.
"As I said yesterday (Y/n), you should really learn to take things as they come." He turned the small metallic object until a click was heard and he pushed the door open. "Ladies first." He opened the door for (Y/n) to go in and after a bit hesitance, she walked into the dark room. She could barely see anything from shadow-cloaked cavern and hoped her eyes adjusted soon so she doesn't trip up on cleaning supplies. Ryo followed pursuit and reached into the darkness to flick on a light to bring some luminosity to the expanse. As the glow temporarily blinded the girl, and squinted a few times to get accustomed to it, she finally saw what the boy was so exited about. The room wasn't as small as an average storage space would be, it was of the same width of a minute classroom, but one wouldn't guess it due to all the objects that scattered the scope of the area. All around the corners and edges were boxes of what looked like outfits, costumes, props, objects, books and scripts of classic fables and stories. It was decorated in delegate coloured materials and fake jewellery that sparkled, even in the horrible lightning. There were costumes and scripts scattered at one side of the room while the side (Y/n) was on had unfinished props and stuffed toys and objects of various immensity. On one of the walls -much in the same fashion you would see a hunter displaying the heads of his kills- hung a blush toy of a platypus. For the first time in 5 years, the girl was speechless at the scene before her eyes, it looked like someone had just decided to move here and wasn't finished unpacking. The (h/c) haired female wondered if she truly was in Narnia or Hogwarts, because she certainly didn't feel like she was on Earth.
(Y/n) looked behind her and noticed the boy taking out two beverages from a mini fridge located near the doorway. He threw a soda in her direction for her to catch and the bewildered student was going to thank him, had she not began wondering how one would get a mini fridge into school with out anyone noticing. "You like it?" The golden boy grinned at the girl's dumbfounded expression and she had to do a retake to absorb the scenario.
(Y/n) wondered how she should answer his question: 'what the hell happened here?' ; 'is this a kidnapping?' ; 'how did you get all this stuff in here?' ; 'this place could use some cleaning.' Soon enough she felt like she could comprehend reality again and faced the boy that turned her world upside down. "Why is there a platypus on the wall?"
Even Ryo seemed surprised at her question, it was way off from what he had expected her to ask and wondered if he had even heard her right. But eventually he looked at the hung up creature and wondered it himself. When he had a good enough reason he said, "For abstract purpose," and goofily grinned at the inquisitive female.
"Can I call him Bolder?" (Y/n) stared at the adorable toy, finding a certain amount of charm with it.
"Aaww, I wanted to have the honour of christening it." The blond disappointedly exhaled and joined (Y/n) in the heart of the room.
"What the heck is all this? Did you steal it from the Drama department!?" The cheerful goon hushed the girl by gingerly patting her head to calm her down.
"You'll get grey hairs if you continue worrying so much. No, all this stuff is my property and the only thing I took from the theatrical department was this." He tossed her a thick stack of papers that were stapled together and the girl recognised them as being the script from the school play- Romeo and Juliet- that was held last year. She knew that the school always saved a few copies of the script so it was easy to get your hands on one.
"What is all this?" She repeated her question, wondering how a single person could bring all this amalgamation and why.
"Well, my room was getting a bit too crowded and my parents won't allow me to move them somewhere else in the house because they are afraid of tripping on something. So what better place than an unused room." He looked very pleased with himself and walked around his treasures.
"But the sign outside-"
"Fake. Just to avoid any curious students."
"The things-"
"Mine."
"The room-"
"Unused."
"The platypus-!"
"Bolder." (Y/n) gave in on herself to make any sense of the boy in front of her.
She rotated herself around to get the grips of reality when she felt a velvet, pure white material drape over her. The person behind the (e/c) eyed female tied the soft, flowing sheet around her neck and before the teen could say anything she was spun around to face a whole-body mirror. She found that the fabric was one of the costumes from the boxes, it was a ghostly but exquisite, porcelain coloured cloak. (Y/n) took a moment to admire the gorgeous cape and despite not being a vain person, admitted that it looked beautiful on her. "It's beautiful. I almost look like a princess."
"Nope. Your the spitting image of an angel." He venerated the girl and spun her around to take a proper look at the student.
"En garde!" (Y/n) whipped out a plastic sword she managed to grasp onto and pointed it at the boy, tempting him into battle. Ryo seemed taken off guard for one moment and then smirked at her challenge and grabbed a rubber katana, signalling the start of their duel.
It was a fierce fight and Ryo was impressed at the girl's resilience and skill, but in the end he stopped going easy on her and the winner was decided when (Y/n) got her sword twisted out of her grip and fell to the ground with a 'thunk.' "Haha, alright alright, uncle. Touché." The girl raises her hands to show her surrender.
The two teens had a good laugh at their own antics when the morning ring was heard through the halls and the footsteps of many students bustling past, to their respective class rooms. The girl took the mantle off which gave Ryo an aching feeling in his gut over the outlook of (Y/n) leaving this little den and spending time with others beside him. "Will you came back again? Your welcome any time."
"Definitely, plus I need to find out what's this obsession of theatre you have. See you later." The (e/c) eyed girl was ready to leave when she detected two arms weaving around her body. The blond boy hugged her closely and the girl would have usually returned the friendly gesture but it felt very off. The embrace was too intimate, it felt more than just friendly, it felt very proprietorial and devoted.
"See you later." He happily whispered and let her go. She inwardly shook her head to try and bring some more secure thoughts and to let the uncomfortable awareness slip away. She flashed him a quick farewell smile and withdrew to her homeroom.
This left the dusky-honey eyed male alone in the room, with the white cloth in hand. He lifted the fabric to press it against his face and inhaled the previous bearer's lingering scent. The girl's fragrance seemed to set his senses on fire but before he could fully fall under the fresh, flowery aroma's spell, he quickly snapped himself out of the hypnotising effect and flung the costume to an arbitrary section of the room. He rubbed his head and inwardly scolded himself for the unusual action. 'What was that about? Did I have a weird relapse or something?' He took out the key to lock the door before leaving for his own class room and made sure none was around to witness the secret 'drama room.' He began retreating for the first few minutes of his tutor room before lessons, humming a cheery tune to himself. 'Though...I wouldn't mind doing that again~'
