Before it all started
Mick Rory was a troubled teen, but that's why Tiana was interested in him. He was more obsessed with his lighter than he was with people, but Tiana knew how to embrace the flames which lured him into her trap, and soon he was ensnared by her. He didn't trust her at first, but they soon fell into a passion filled relationship as their bond grew stronger throughout their time together. However, they were still only children, at the age of fifteen, so they couldn't make their own way in life meaning Mick kept his head down pretending to study whilst Tiana drank in the training from her father, as she was to inherit the Santini Gang when he either passed or was too sick to keep the place running smoothly.
They met in secret, until that fateful day. She was staying with Mick and his family who assumed she was a friend from Sunday school which he skipped and bribed an associate of his to sign him in every week so his parents wouldn't wonder about him too much. Mick's father was drunk that night, and had just passed out from intoxication whilst Mick's mother was out with her male 'friend' from work who Mick and Tiana were convinced she was sleeping with on the side, as well as her husband. They were sat in silence in the barn together, Mick playing with his lighter as usual whilst Tiana was messing around with the knife she stole from her father in order to pass the time.
"You ever wonder 'bout what'll happen to us in the future?" Mick piped up, looking away from the flames to meet eyes with the most beautiful girl he had ever seen.
She shrugged her tanned shoulders, and flicked a piece of chocolate brown hair from her face. "Well, I'll probably become a wanted gang member..."
"Nah," Mick grinned. "You're too pretty for them to arrest you. You'd smile at them and they'd fall in love and dismiss you of all charges."
"Is that what I did to you?" Tiana teased, scooting closer to Mick who pressed his lips to hers.
His hand tangled in her hair and she wrapped her arms around him. Both of them ignored the fallen lighter which ignited the straw beside them. The sudden stench of smoke and burning wood made them quickly part and sprint from the barn onto the hill a safe distance away from the fire. When Tiana tried to pull Mick into the house to wake his family, he could only stand transfixed at both the beauty of the burning barn and the sight of his girlfriend covered in soot.
"Mick! Come on, your father's asleep in there!" Tiana yelled.
"Don't care. Abusive bastard anyway, let me just look at the flames," he muttered in reply. "Mom's with her boytoy anyway, she'll just go live with him."
"Mick! Please!" Tiana begged, tugging at his arm. "You can't kill him!"
But she got no reply and gave up, grabbing his hand to pull him away when the embers died down to get away before he was caught but were met with the police before they could get very far. Tiana batted her eyelashes and claimed innocence but went with Mick to the cop station and watched him get sent to juvie.
"I'll wait for you, Mick. I promise..." Tiana said before he was led away by police.
"We'll see..." Mick grumbled.
"We're fifteen and you're going into juvie! It's not the end of the world." Tiana exclaimed.
"No, but you're going back to Central in a year, and I won't be out by then." He rolled his eyes.
"Then kiss me... If it's the last time I'll see you, kiss me." She said, and leaned to meet his lips ignoring the scoffs and coughs from the officers.
"All right you two, break it up. Should'a thought about that before you committed arson buddy." The captain of the force interrupted them and Tiana could only watch Mick leave her as she waited for her father to come and pick her up from the station.
Little did she now that she wouldn't see Mick again for nearly twenty years.
