Life loves to make things especially difficult for people who are just trying to get through it.
Jimin knew this well.
All he wanted to do was love. He didn't want anything extravagant, like money or fame, he just wanted to be able to love Jungkook without limitations and worries about what will happen to him if he does.
There was only one difference between the way he thought now, and the way he thought then.
He was still worried about the consequences, but he wasn't scared anymore. He used to be so terrified about what would truly happen to him, but now he had nothing to be scared of. He had already died, what could happen to him that was worse than that?
"Jimin?" He was quickly snapped out of his thoughts, looking up to see Taehyung looking at him worriedly once more. "Are you sure you want to see him?" He asked. "I... I know that you miss him and all, but I just can't promise you that he's going to remember you."
Jimin sighed softly, an ache in his chest as he looked at the door that they stood in front of. He wanted to cry again, he felt as if he needed to, but he couldn't. He had done so much crying in the past day that he couldn't anymore.
He hurt so much that he just felt numb.
But he knew that the moment he saw Jungkook, somehow more tears would manage to form, and the numbness would ebb away until the horrible pain in his chest consumed him once more.
He knew that all of this would happen, but he still would do whatever it took to see him again.
"I'm sure." Jimin answered softly, trying his very best not to let his voice tremble. It was raw and raspy from all of the crying he had endured. "I just need to see him. It's alright if he doesn't remember me, I just need to know that he's doing okay."
Taehyung nodded in response, a sad smile on his face as he knocked on the door six consecutive times. Him and Jimin both listened as soft footsteps made their way towards the door.
The door handle twisted, and when the door was opened they were both met with a very worn out looking demon.
"Hoseok." Taehyung spoke softly, watching as his tired green eyes flickered over to Jimin. "He knows." Taehyung wiped at his own eyes quickly, not wanting Jimin to see him cry. "He remembers." He smiled softly, rubbing up and down Jimin's bicep softly as he watched Hoseok's eyes widen.
"Hoseok." Jimin whispered, stepping forwards and resting his hand on the demon's shoulder. "I know that we weren't on the best terms when I was a demon, and I know that you and the rest of them weren't the biggest fan of Jungkook." He paused, searching Hoseok's eyes for all of the emotions he could be hiding. "Why did you help him? Why did you let him go down to hell."
Hoseok paused for a moment, averting his gaze from Jimin.
"Because I have a heart." Hoseok sighed softly, looking down at the ground. "Because I could see how much he loved you, and I wanted you back almost as much as he did."
He looked up from where his gaze rested, meeting Jimin's eyes once more. It was still so strange for him not to see the bright red irises he had gotten used to. Brown eyes just didn't suit him, being a human, didn't suit him.
"You want to see him, right?" He continued, looking over to Taehyung. "That's why you're here?"
Jimin and Taehyung both nodded.
"Could I please?" Jimin asked, eyes pleading.
"He's asleep." Hoseok sighed. "But you can still come in." He shrugged. "Maybe it's best that he's asleep, who knows what he'll be like when he wakes up."
He opens the door wider, gesturing for the both of them to come inside. "He was talking about you before he passed out, you know." Hoseok sighed, walking into the living room and listening to the way that the door closed once the other two had both walked in. "He thinks it's his fault that you died, he can't talk about you without completely breaking down."
He pointed down the hallway. "First door on the right, that's where he is." Hoseok spoke softly. "Taehyung, stay here with me, I think it would be best if Jimin went alone."
"Agreed." Taehyung nodded, looking to Jimin and smiling softly. "He still loves you, Jimin." He spoke reassuringly. "You just need to help him remember."
Jimin merely nodded before turning and walking down the hallway, hardly able to stop himself from shaking nervously. He wanted to see Jungkook, he really did, but he wasn't sure how he would react if the love of his life couldn't remember him for who he was truly.
He slowly opened the door, breath catching in his throat as he saw the figure lying of the bed before him.
He wanted to cry, but he couldn't. He wanted to wake him up, but wasn't sure if he was ready for what would happen if he did.
Because Jungkook looked almost exactly like he remembered. His face was so peaceful as he slept, dark brown hair falling softly against his face as soft breaths left his lips. He looked like an angel, just as Jimin remembered.
Jimin's bottom lip quivered, and he brought his hand up to his mouth as he walked up to Jungkook slowly.
"Jungkook." He whispered, voice hardly even audible. He brought his hand down, brushing a few pieces of hair out of his eyes. His mind remembered the chocolate brown irises that lay beneath his eyelids, but if he truly was a demon like everyone said he was, he knew that when Jungkook opened his eyes he wouldn't see what he remembered.
He kneeled down quietly, pressing a soft kiss to his lover's forehead. "Why did you give up your life for me?" He breathed. "I know that's what I did for you, but I didn't want you to return the favour."
He kissed the bridge of Jungkook's nose, then the tip of his nose. He brushed his lips against Jungkook's cupid's bow, before finally planting a kiss on his lips. "I love you." He spoke against the younger's lips. "I love you more than I love anything else. I love you more than I love myself."
Jungkook stirred in his sleep, but Jimin didn't move from where he was kneeling. He brought his head down to rest on Jungkook's chest. He could hear his heartbeat, the rhythmic thump in the younger's chest helping to keep him grounded.
"Hoseok?" Jungkook's tired voice cause a tear to slip down his cheek, Jimin almost shocked that he actually had any more tears to give.
He wasn't sure what to say, scared that any of his words could set him off. He had to make himself known though.
"No, Jungkook." Jimin whispered gently, voice shaking with emotion as he stood up. "It's me. Jimin."
He watched as Jungkook's eyes fluttered open, nearly letting out a sob at the ruby red irises that stared at him. Jungkook's eyes scanned him completely, his eyes turning glossy as he outstretched his hand towards Jimin.
"Jimin?" He spoke shakily, eyes wide as he sat up in bed. He took hold of Jimin's hand, his own hand shaking as he looked up into the human's eyes. "Is it really you?"
Jimin nodded softly, a tear slipping past the smile on his lips. He intertwined his and Jungkook's fingers, sitting down on the bed in front of him. "You're okay." Jungkook squeezed Jimin's hand, head dropping down to face the bedsheets as tears slipped past his eyes
"You're alive." Jungkook sobbed, leaning forwards to wrap his arms around Jimin. His tears wet the skin of Jimin's neck, the demon trembling in his hold as Jimin gave up on trying to hold back his own tears. "I thought I lost you forever. I'm so sorry for what I did to you."
Jimin pet Jungkook's hair in an attempt to sooth him, the younger gripping at his shirt as if he was scared that Jimin would leave again.
"You didn't do anything, Jungkook." Jimin whispered, his voice cracking at the end of his sentence. He rested his chin atop Jungkook's head, loving how it felt to hold him close once more.
"I killed you!" Jungkook cried, holding Jimin tighter.
"You didn't." Jimin sighed. "In all honesty, I killed myself. I knew that being with you would kill me but I did it anyway." He drew patterns on Jungkook's back with his finger. "Nothing is your fault. I brought it upon myself."
They kept silent for a few moments after that, Jimin waiting until he could feel Jungkook start to breath evenly once more.
"Why aren't your eyes red anymore?" Jungkook asked softly, his head tucked into Jimin's shoulder.
"Same reason yours aren't brown." Jimin hummed, rubbing soothing circles against Jungkook's back. "You're the reason I'm alive Jungkook, and you gave away something very important so that I could be."
Jungkook's eyes widened as he looked up to Jimin, realization taking over his features.
"I sold my soul." He whispered, Jimin nodding sadly. "Why can I remember you now though, if I supposedly did?"
Jimin shrugged, brushing his hand through Jungkook's hair. He could feel the small bumps on his scalp where his horns hid.
"I'm not sure." Jimin sighed. "I just know that it doesn't matter, as long as I have you back."
Jungkook nodded, pressing a soft kiss just underneath Jimin's jawline.
"I thought I lost you forever." He whispered. "I really can't live without you." Jungkook brought his hand down, intertwining his fingers with Jimin's. He remembered always loving how small Jimin's hands felt when he held them.
Everything about Jimin was perfect.
"I'm not leaving again." Jimin smiled, closing his eyes. "I promise."
