9. | Infatuation pt. 1

You want me

I've lost my way

You want me

Just like me every day

I feel so far away

You always come my way

It repeats all over again.

- BTS [Park Jimin], 'Lie' (Translated)

‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗

Jungkook felt like he was drunk.

He had insisted that he wasn't really intoxicated, and while that true because he had just been sipping beer when he spotted Noelle, he couldn't say the same now because her lips were just as intoxicating as alcohol, if not more.

Jungkook wouldn't mind the addiction if Lee Noelle was the drug.

He couldn't help himself when he saw her, face illuminated by the pulsing club lights from below, hair let down in soft waves and not in a stern ponytail like usual.

But it wasn't that she looked so damn hot that night, it was because Noelle herself drew him in like no one ever could. There was just something about her that made his thoughts scatter and his heart go crazy; which was something Jungkook wasn't familiar with.

He wasn't being his usual self that night and maybe it was because they met each other at an unexpected place and in a more informal setting than their school or maybe it was because he had somehow lowered his guard because he didn't expect to run into her, but kissing her wasn't something he was going to do even though it was something he wanted to do.

Jungkook had shut off his brain and let his instinct guide him, make him gravitate towards her.

He had kissed girls before, after all Jeon Jungkook was no saint. Yet the moment he lowered his lips on hers, she felt like his first, burning away any past memory.

Only Noelle existed.

Even their surroundings melted away. The loud beats from the DJ suddenly stopped, at least for the duo. It was just him and her and while a small part of his brain did remind him that there had been a lot of things left unsaid between them, especially after that day in school, it didn't matter at that particular moment.

Nothing mattered anymore as his lips traced her jaw, her eyelashes fluttering against his face. Nothing mattered as his hands slightly pushed back the denim jacket hiding her shoulders to expose the hidden skin of her bare shoulders and pepper kisses there, making her fingers which had been running through the hair at the nape of his neck fist.

He tugged her closer even though they were impossibly close, closer than they had ever been before.

Yet he wanted them to be closer still.

A small part of him was a bit surprised. He had expected her to push him away. Hope rose within him - that maybe she wanted this, maybe, just maybe she wanted him just like he wanted her.

Her fingers had at first been endearingly tentative and innocent when they looped around his neck and even more so when she ran them in a few strands of his hair, but the actions made him feel an euphoric high which he had never felt with anyone else.

Jungkook wasn't sure about a lot of things in his life, and Lee Noelle was one of them. He wasn't sure what label to put on his feelings towards her ; whether he merely wanted her or whether his soul recognised hers as a kindred spirit or whether this was all just a strong infatuation which was either going to go away (though he highly doubted it) or was going to lodge in his soul and stay there.

All he knew was that there was something about her which drew him in, like nectar calls out to a bee in the spring.

Except that Lee Noelle was far from sweet.

Sure she liked to portray that she was, and sure she wasn't tainted like he was, having lived in a comfortable life unlike the orphan but Jungkook knew she wasn't simply a sweet goody two shoes.

It was just a persona, a mask she had unknowingly donned.

She was sweet and sour, sassy yet polite- Lee Noelle was a walking set of contradictions. Jungkook didn't know if she herself was aware of the fact although he highly suspected that she wasn't.

He had had an ironclad rule. It was that he won't ever take interest in others' lives. His was hard enough as it is and he knew that when push came to shove, all one has in this world is his or her own self so he deemed it a waste of time to want to know more about someone or be curious about them.

But then came along Noelle and he couldn't resist it, couldn't resist her

He just had to know more about her. He wanted her and not simply in the literal sense, but all of her- her perfections and imperfections. He found himself wanting to be the one to peel off that mask away. It didn't matter however she was with others, but he wanted to be the only one who saw the side Lee Noelle hid from everyone else.

Maybe the infatuation he felt would one day blossom into something more but Jungkook wasn't too sold on the idea just yet.

He never lived in the future anyways, he prefered living in the present. His desire to kiss her had been spurred by that theory too- he had simply followed what he wanted to do, consequences be damned.

Her lips were soft beneath his. When he cupped her slender neck and tilted their heads to deepen the kiss, she leaned away.

He frowned, confused as to why she suddenly was fumbling and searching for something from the pocket of her denim jacket which she hastily pulled up to conceal her pale shoulder one more.

However, when she fished out a phone Jungkook realised that the reason for her actions was simple- Noelle's phone had been ringing.

He hadn't heard it vibrate or ring, but then again, a haze had been clouding his mind and senses, a semipermeable haze which had been filtering out everything and anything which wasn't related to Lee Noelle.

Her teeth toyed with her bottom lip, the same spot where his tongue had languidly grazed her lip as she picked up the call and tried to brush away a stray strand of her hair which was falling into her bottomless hazel eyes, the pair of eyes which always managed to lure him in, making him want to drown in the depths.

"Oh, you did? Okay, give me five minutes."

She was avoiding his gaze, looking everywhere but at him. A rosy blush was creeping on her neck and at the side of her face, red tinting her cheeks and she pocketed her phone again.

Her pink lips were slightly swollen from his kisses, even though he had done his best to be gentle, even if the boy didn't know how to be.

Noelle befuddled, intrigued, confused him on so many levels- the complex emotions she incited from within him, emotions he didn't even know he possessed scared yet at the same time refreshed him.

"Um, I have to go back." She said, her eyes finally looking up at him and betraying her thoughts. They said that she didn't want to go but had to.

Jungkook just nodded. He himself didn't know what to say next.

The attraction between the young duo was undeniable, and although both were similar underneath it all, Jungkook found it hard to communicate with words, always had.

And while Noelle was an exception to many things for him, this wasn't one.

Dealing with people much less girls was not his forte, even if the said person was Lee Noelle. He wasn't charming and for that he envied people like his classmate Park Jimin, for whom charm was as natural as breathing or so he had observed.

"Do I say bye? Do I kiss her again? Should I walk her out?"

Such uncertainties played on a loop in his mind as he stepped aside to let her walk away. This wasn't the usual drill when he hooked up with women because he knew what to expect then.

However, Lee Noelle was a bundle of unexpected for he never knew what to do next when it came to her.

Staring at her back as she navigated down the stairs to the ground floor of the club made her impulsively choose the latter option even though he didn't know what he would say to her.

He pushed ahead, nudging people with his elbows and not minding the least because he had to catch up with her.

For someone so small, she was sure a master in parting a crowd but then again, Jungkook knew one of the prime reasons were that young men's eyes would follow her figure whenever she brushed past them.

This made Jungkook narrow his eyes and 'accidentally' shove someone hard with his arm. It was someone who had been eyeing Noelle's retreating figure and muttering irritating comments to his group of friends.

To Jungkook's immense satisfaction, the bastard fell on his butt, the drink in his hand ruining his clothes as he shouted curses directed at him.

However, Jungkook wasn't the least bit fazed by the lousy curses and he quickened his steps to catch up with Noelle, a smug smirk itching his lips up in an almost grin.

She stepped out of the club and he followed her, just a few steps away from tapping her shoulder. He was curious as to why a girl like Noelle was there in a club in Itaewon on a Saturday night.

Jungkook hadn't pegged her as a girl who went to clubs knowing she was underage because even if he had read some rants of hers and seen an occasional spark of rebellious spirit behind her eyes, he knew she was still innocent, unlike him.

As he was about to tap her shoulder, his hand extended to do just that, he heard a familiar yell,

"Ells!"

Across the road, two familiar young boys stood, one of them waving at her with both his arms. Jungkook recognised him as his classmate from school, Park Jimin.

The other one was the same preppy boy who hung around Noelle, the one who had dared to glare at him after that eventful day when Noelle confronted Jungkook.

Jimin started talking to her animatedly, making him clench his fists especially when the preppy boy straightened the collar of her jacket casually. Jungkook thought he locked gazes with him for a short second, making the latter's eyes widen but a car whizzed past just then, and Jungkook turned on his heel to walk away.

Not wanting to stare at the trio anymore, he stalked back into the club, suddenly craving something to wash away the sweet taste of Noelle's lips on his.

"My brother is so screwed." Jimin gloated for the thousandth time, eliciting a collective groan from Noelle and Taehyung.

They were waiting for the taxi that Taehyung had booked from his phone, an Uber. They had been waiting for a few minutes now, mainly because it was a weekend and the demand for cabs was higher than usual, especially in hot tourist places and clubs which were frequently visited by youngsters.

Itaewon street in Seoul came to life on weekend nights, the vibrant lights and jam-packed bodies of people flooding the bustling streets.

"That sneaky hyung of mine thought he could escape but unfortunately for him, I have solid proof on my phone that he hung out at a club tonight. He is so busted."

Jimin sang the words, making Noelle sigh aloud.

"Where is Jae Oppa anyways?" she turned towards Taehyung, the sensible one of the duo.

"He left, I think. Said he had to go back to his dorm before curfew. He offered to drive us back but Jimin here shot down all chances of us getting a free ride back home."

Although he looked his usual blank self, Noelle knew Taehyung wanted to say something more from the expression that washed over his eyes for a brief moment as he looked at her, but he didn't.

Noelle still felt conscious, like maybe he knew what she had been doing when he called her. She fiddled with her jacket buttons and looked away to hide the telltale blush spreading on her face because it felt hot, especially due to the thought that maybe her friends could tell that she had kissed Jeon Jungkook.

She slightly shook her head, to disapparate the onslaught of memories and the tingles she felt whenever her mind wandered back to Jungkook.

The memory of their kiss wasn't ready to remain stationary in the box which she had locked it in one corner of her mind.

The feeling of his lips on her, to his tongue gently parting her lips, to the mole under his lower lip...

"Ells?" Jimin nudged her a little.

"Yes?"

"You've been out of it since you came back." He narrowed his eyes, and pointed at the club across the road from the sidewalk where the trio stood.

"Did something happen inside?" Taehyung arched his eyebrows at her.

She denied it with a shake of her head, yet her eyes flitted back to the entrance of the club.

"Your lying abilities astound me and not because you can lie through your teeth but because you suck at it Ells." Jimin said.

She didn't comment or bicker with him for his taunt as she usually would have, making Jimin mirror Taehyung's expression; rare concern swirling in his eyes along with curiosity as he regarded her.

"Tae, Jimin, I'll be right back." Noelle simply said and sprinted away, not bothering to present an explanation because her feet were guiding her to Jungkook.

She knew they had left many things unsaid between them and no matter how much confused and flustered she was, especially in his presence, she knew she just had to go and say something to him, anything.

She skidded to a halt a few steps away from the the crowded entrance of the club though, because she recognised the figure parting away from the crowd, stepping out of the club.

For a moment she thought she sensed Jungkook behind her when she had rushed to cross the road but at that moment she had brushed it away.

But now she was sure it was him at the entrance, stepping out of the club. Him and his red jacket and ripped jeans, those dark locks pushed back from forehead. An unlit cigarette was trapped between the same lips which had been on hers only a few minutes ago.

His stormy eyes met hers. She didn't know how to feel. On one hand her heart would go into overdrive mode whenever their gazes locked and that was the case then too but on the other, she felt anger swell when she saw that cigarette, unlit or not.

Maybe it was because she abhorred smoking or maybe because the fact that the same lips which had molded with hers so perfectly, the same lips that had trailed kisses on her shoulder and neck, were now caressing a cancerous white roll of tobacco.

"What are you doing?" She asked, eyes narrowed at the cigarette. She was questioning herself now, wondering just why on Earth had she even kissed him back.

Under the dim club lights, even that slightest upturn of his lips had made her deluded into thinking that maybe, just maybe he was capable of not always being an unlikeable reticent.

Maybe she was wrong to think that.

He didn't answer, he merely raised his eyebrows at her as if to say, "What do you want?"

"Well, I wanted to talk to you but it seems like you are busy." Noelle found herself saying bitterly. Just as she was about to turn on her heel and stalk away, he grabbed her elbow.

"What?" She fumed, as she faced him.

"You said you wanted to talk?" His brows formed a V on his forehead as he asked her.

"I don't talk to smokers."

"But you sure kiss them."

A slight smirk formed on his lips, and even though Noelle didn't want it to, her heart fluttered whenever his crooked grin and that slight dimple appeared; which needless to say wasn't very often.

"Maybe I lost my mind there for a split second."

"Oh it was longer than a split second." He rolled his eyes at her, the smug smirk still there.

"Besides, your little boyfriends are waiting." Jungkook pointed behind her, and she turned to see Jimin and Taehyung watching the pair like hawks, eyes wide. Taehyung had a scowl on his face.

"They aren't my boyfriends because unlike someone, I have actual friends."

She huffed and turned back to Jungkook, dreading the barrage of questions she would be subjected to by her two friends later on. For a second she thought she saw relief flash across his face but it disappeared as quickly as it had appeared.

"That's good then because I don't go after someone who is taken."

"I must've lost my mind, I am sure." She muttered under her breath, deliberately loud enough for him to hear.

While his hand wasn't on her elbow anymore, she questioned herself as to why she wasn't running away, as far away from him as possible; why her heart was still hammering inside her chest when she looked at him.

It was a dangerous infatuation, yet Noelle didn't know how to make it go away.

Maybe she didn't want it to go away.

"So have I." He whispered, his eyes betraying his stoic expression.

They were stormy yet a bit lost, like she was because she didn't know exactly how to feel when it came to him.

Maybe it was the same for him?

She reached up and took out the cigarette from his mouth and he didn't protest, just stared at her with wide doe eyes of his which brought out a certain innocent side of his that Noelle was sure not many looked closely enough to see.

He took the roll from her hands and pocketed it, eyes still fixed on her.

"It is bad for you." Noelle sighed, reminding him something he obviously knew yet still didn't mind ignoring.

"I didn't light it up. And I know it is," Jungkook rolled his lips against each other, the mole under his lower lips flashing as he leaned closer to her, just a few inches separating them now.

Her heart did a backflip when he lightly brushed his lips on hers, so feather-light that they were there one second and they next they were gone as he stepped away. She knew people around them were staring, possibly her friends too but at that moment she didn't care as she gazed at him when he continued,

"But I like to go after what I want, everything else be damned."

Noelle wasn't sure if Jungkook had been talking about cigarettes anymore.

A/N

Dearest readers who I love,

A much procrastinated update-mainly because of me moving but also because I was stuck even though I had the chapter mapped out in my mind.

What are your thoughts? Is this all too rushed? Too confusing? Too cliched? I am swamped with drafts left and right xD and while I try my level best, I may have made an occasional error. If so, don't hesitate to point it out.

P.S.- PERMISSION TO DANCE IS THE REASON I AM STUCK BECAUSE I CAN'T WRITE ANYTHING, NOT WHEN THE BANGTAN BOYS ARE HELL BENT ON MAKING MY HEART GO UWU.

P.P.S.- Jungkook is bias wrecking me these days. What about you guys?

P.P.P.S- *spoiler* Next chapter will have a proper convo between Junelle/ Ellekook and some major surprises.

(Yes, I am still torn between which ship name to use because I love them both; suggested by my BFF Alls and the most amazing writer on wattpad called Kim_knights.)

Love,

Milli
