If love and hate are the same words,
I love you Busan.
If love and hate are the same words,
I hate you Busan.

Jungkook had a love-hate relationship with Busan.
It was his city, his hometown. Yet the word 'home' had always been foreign to the orphan. Even after nineteen years of his life, he didn't understand the true meaning of the word.
Maybe it was because he had never had one.
When people saw the reticent teen who usually sported a scowl, shaggy unkept hair which fell into his glary eyes and a splattering of tattoos covering his hands and an occasional one or three on his well defined chest, only one word sprang up in their minds-Kkangpae (Korean: 깡패)
And it was true.
He wasn't officially affiliated with any of the big street gangs or mafiosos which formed the organized crime network of Busan, he was simply a teenager from the wrong side of the tracks, one who wasn't shy to use his fists or back down from a fight if anyone aggravated him.
His hot-headed sulkiness and temper often landed him in trouble and also in and out of juvenile detention centers. His perpetually spilt knuckles were a testament to that fact.
Jungkook knew how to throw a punch alright and often got in fights at the public school the state government had enrolled him in. He was the most feared among his classmates and even teachers, for he was known as the muscle of a local gang involved in petty crimes in his neighborhood which could be best described as an urban slum.
He had joined the gang when he was merely thirteen, having just lost his last living relative, his grandmother only after two years of losing his parents. It was done to ensure survival. The leader of the gang saw something in the bony and thoroughly malnourished young boy's eyes- a defiant spark which he took a liking to and thus took him under his wings.
Although now that the said man was dead and the gang on the verge of disbanding due to many of their men being caught by the police and jailed, Jungkook once again found himself alone.
He was accustomed to it by now though. Jeon Jungkook didn't hate solidarity, he embraced it.
But when a pale young man around ten years older than him showed up looking for him out of the blue and claimed that he was his uncle, his mother's half brother, Jungkook did not know what to do.
Jungkook knew that it was possible that the man wasn't lying, for he knew his parents had married straight out of high school- a shotgun wedding. He also knew that her mother's parents had disowned her, not that his grandparents had had much of a fortune in the first place.
He had a sneaking suspicion that a certain police officer who had arrested him a few times before in the past had something to do with this sudden discovery of an unknown biological uncle.
Officer Choi.
The old balding man was a widow, well over sixty and a terrible busybody who loved to poke his nose in others' business- that was Jungkook's impression of the kind man with a gentle smile. He was someone who had taken a strange liking to the young boy whose frequent visits to the police station due to him committing some felony or the other piqued his interest.
He was always castigating Jungkook about his rebellious juvenile behavior, always telling him to stop getting into fights and assaulting people. It got on Jungkook's nerves.
Still, he had no idea that the man would think of something like this, just to keep the kid off the streets.
But he had, for the one who claimed he was Jungkook's uncle, Min Yoongi, had come to bail his ass out when he beat up a few rich kids who were pressing charges for assault.
Rich assholes always hide behind their pathetic daddies- Jungkook thought.
They weren't saints for they had been harassing a young woman late at night. But then again, neither was Jungkook and everyone knew it in Busan. It was their word against his.
He didn't know that he had a well-off uncle before that's for sure. Even his uncle didn't know of his existence, having been estranged from his much-older-than-him Noona( Korean: 누나 ) for as long as he could remember.
Although Min Yoongi was far from rich-he was poor too, having been born as a wooden spoon just like his nephew. He was a DJ at one of the clubs in Itaewon in Seoul at night and he used to work as a guide for singers and songwriters. His dream of being a music producer was still far from his reach at the age of almost thirty and he knew that time was running out, his youthful days weaning off, but he made enough money to sustain himself from his gigs at clubs.
Jungkook didn't know that half of his bail money came from Officer Choi, who even though had his reservations against Yoongi as a potential guardian for Jungkook; he still thought that blood is thicker than water after all no matter if they never knew of each other's existence before.
That, and the fact that Min Yoongi was so much alike Jungkook considering the array of tattoos that covered his sleeves along with multiple piercings gracing his earlobes.
Though he seemed polite enough in his mannerisms so Officer Choi thought he shouldn't really judge the young lad on the basis of his appearance.
Min Yoongi was still better than the gangster scums which roamed the streets of the poorer part of Busan City after all.
However, Jungkook didn't really like that he was suddenly being forced to live with someone he barely knew.
Where was this so-called Yoongi Samchon (Korean : 삼촌) when his parents left him to fend for himself from the streets of Busan? Where was he when Jungkook almost died of starvation at the tender age of ten?
The pale faced skinny older man with bleached hair was a stranger, and Jungkook had learnt that he had no one but himself in this world from a very early age.
The recalcitrant nineteen year old Jungkook did not fancy leaving the only city had had ever lived in since he was born with someone he barely knew, just to (in Officer Choi's words) "stay out of more trouble and stop ending up in prison all the time."
Officer Choi knew the fiery gazed hot blooded teen had potential to turn his life around even if Jungkook tried his level best to self destruct. He wanted Jungkook to change just a little, to be loved and live with his family rather than roam the streets of Busan beating up people.
It was difficult to convince the boy to leave Busan.
He thought he hated the city the same amount as he loved it. But Jungkook couldn't deny that a very small part of him wanted to escape the catacomb he lived in.
He didn't have a dream or a passion- no he simply lived to survive another day. He simply lived because he had to. Surviving was what he was familiar with, what he knew.
Still, somewhere deep in his heart he thought going to Seoul wouldn't be that bad.
After all whatever had Busan really done for him? True, all he knew was using his fists and kicks in fights for he had absolutely zero interest in studies but wouldn't the hollowness he felt in his chest disappear if he left the hollow city?
Nevertheless, he didn't have much of a choice in the matter, not really. The judge who was assigned his assault case made it mandatory for him to live with his biological relative after the payment of the settlement money- something which Jungkook knew was all a part of the irritating old geezer called Officer Choi and his stupid plan to 'reform' Jungkook into a decent human being.
However, Jungkook didn't believe such people existed in this world. He had learnt the bitter truth about this cold world at a very young age.
A very confused Min Yoongi who enjoyed the perks of being a bachelor and living alone and who didn't know one single thing about how to deal with kids much less parent an unruly hormonal teenager and Jeon Jungkook who had always ever lived alone were forced by law to live together as a family.
In Seoul.
Little did he know that he wasn't the only one who had a love-hate relationship with his city.

A/N
Not an incredible start, but the story gets better I swear.
Oh and by the way, the word Kkangpae (깡패) means "gangster" or "hoodlum"
And Noona (누나 ) means "older sister". Usually boys use this to refer to their older sisters or any older girl they are close to.
Samchon (삼촌) means "Uncle" in Korean.
P.S.- The whole story will be in third person POV. Also, if you love Jungkook shower some love by pressing the small heart at the bottom of your screens.
Love,
Milli.
