A WEEK HAS PASSED since Y/N and Finn first slept together, and they've never been closer.
School was let out for the summer just a day prior, meaning that the new couple would be all over each other with their spare time.
Although being a newly labeled couple was exciting for the both of them, Y/N found that it added a lot of pressure.
She had never had a boyfriend before, and definitely not one with such a complicated past and home life.
There were times where she would come over to Finn's house to just hang out and spend time with him, but he would be writing so intensely in a journal, one that he was adamant for her not to see.
To add to his secrecy, he's still yet to have told Y/N where he goes doing the majority of the days of the week.
It was suspicious, of course. What was so important in that journal that she couldn't see?
Where did he disappear to 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m?
Shouldn't Finn feel comfortable enough sharing these things with his girlfriend?
Y/N often thought to herself.
Y/N's curiosity was a powerful force, and she knew that she would find out herself soon enough.
Finn could never allow Y/N to view the contents of his journal, at least not until he was absolutely sure she would stay by his side.
He wasn't ready to tell Y/N of his therapy sessions in the mornings, at least not until his therapist cleared him to burn the journal, which was symbolic of leaving his old self behind.
Y/N hoped Finn's secrecy wasn't anything big, but decided to drop it for the time being.
When he's ready..she would tell herself.
But that thought wouldn't last long. She would find out sooner or later, and she was sure of that.
She just wanted the tension to pass. She just wanted Finn to open up to her.
But then, she thought maybe it was just because of her unbalanced moods lately that she was being so suspicious, and she assumed that it was because her period would be arriving soon.
But although she had been feeling under the weather and a bit emotionally unbalanced recently, she just wanted Finn to let her in.
Finn was a complicated subject for Y/N, and it was times like these that she really missed Millie's friendship.
The Schnapp cabin party that Y/N was supposed to attend with Millie months ago kept being postponed by Noah, for reasons she didn't know.
But now, it was postponed to be this Saturday, which was tomorrow, and Y/N had planned on on attending that lakeside cabin party with Finn.
She hadn't seen much of Millie at all these past few months since Finn first arrived, and she missed her presence.
She was her best friend after all, and Millie just completely cut ties with her all of a sudden.
So it was surprising when Y/N was walking to get her mail when she saw Millie walking down Jack's street, her hair was cut shorter and she now wore fashionable glasses as she walked with a stride.
She was texting, occasionally looking up to see where she was going.
Y/N hated the fact that she was walking down Jack's street, but she also hated the fact that they weren't talking anymore.
Finn had left earlier for the remainder of the morning to go god knows where, leaving Y/N with a peck on the lips and a goodbye to suffice for the lonely morning without him.
Y/N wasn't doing anything the rest of the morning since Finn had left, so she felt it would be a good idea to take this time to focus on her life outside her new boyfriend.
She locked her mailbox, holding the mail in her hands as she trotted down to follow behind Millie.
However, for some reason, she had to slow down quickly because the fast motions suddenly made her grow dizzy for some reason.
She pushed the feeling down.
"Millie!" She called from behind, raising her hand to wave her down as Millie turned around hesitantly to the sound of her voice.
She stopped completely, and froze, her face turning pale as she made eye contact with Y/N for the first time in months.
Y/N smiled, finally catching up to a startled Millie who looked like she wanted to be anywhere else but with her old best friend.
"Hey." She muttered, looking around her as if she were going to be caught doing something wrong. She wouldn't look Y/N in the eye.
"Hey," Y/N smiled, twiddling her fingers while she held her mail, "It's been a while."
Millie pursed her lips in a straight line, her short brown hair blowing in her face as she squinted underneath the afternoon sun.
"Yeah.." She nodded, not really showing much emotion other than what seemed like regret.
"Can we talk?" Y/N just wanted to patch up things with Millie, whether she knew what she did wrong or not.
Millie's eyes shot up, widening as she looked over her shoulders. "I can't."
She sounded on edge, but something in Y/N snapped, and it didn't help that her hormones were bipolar this week for some reason.
She hadn't seen her best friend in so long, and she's been shut out.
She deserved an explanation at the very least.
"No, that's not fair," Y/N furrowed her eyebrows, holding her gaze stern against Millie. "You haven't talked to me in forever, and now you won't even tell me—.."
Millie swiftly placed her hand to Y/N's mouth to halt her words because she was speaking too loudly, Y/N's voice echoed through the empty neighborhood.
"Okay, fine." Millie whisper shouted, removing her hand from Y/N's mouth. "But not here."
Y/N furrowed her eyebrows, wrinkling her nose in the way that Finn always found adorable.
"I mean, we can go to my house if you want..?"
Y/N was confused on why Millie was acting as oddly as she was, and she just nodded to proceed to walk back in the direction of Y/N's house.
Once they reached her other street and finally walked down to her driveway, Millie deemed it safe to stop speed walking and let Y/N catch up behind her.
Y/N walked passed Millie, walking up to unlock her front door to allow her best friend inside for the first time in months.
Millie looked over her shoulders one last time, before entering through the doorway and quickly shutting the door behind her with a lock.
Y/N watched with confusion as Millie leaned her head against the closed door, obviously stressed out of her mind about something.
"Mills..?" Y/N walked to place a hand on her shoulder from behind, only to be practically tackled in a hug.
Millie hugged onto her best friend tightly, a hug she's needed for such a long time. Y/N draped her arms around her friend, and stroked her hair.
"It's okay.." She soothed, dropping the mail she picked up on the mini table beside the door to instead focus on Millie.
Although Y/N was upset with Millie for shutting her out, she would always be there for her. It was just how Y/N was, always caring about others more than she does herself.
Millie pulled away from the hug, single tears slipping down her cheeks to leave a trail of light black smudges from her mascara.
"Your hugs were always the best.." She smiled, reaching her sleeve to wipe the tears that managed to escape against her will.
Y/N led her friend to the empty living room, her mom being no where to be found as she could only assume she was at work.
They never talked anymore, they only barely tolerated each other.
It was heartbreaking.
Millie sat next to Y/N on the couch, looking around to see that nothing much had changed from the past few months.
"Millie?" Y/N asked, earning the attention of her best friend. Her eyes were worried, as if she already knew what her question was going to be. "Why did we fall out?"
Millie's tears stopped their flow, but her breathing picked up its pace.
She looked down at her hands, fiddling with the sleeves of her sweatshirt that didn't look to be hers at all.
"We never..," Millie began, squinting her eyes to prevent her tears from falling again, debating whether or not she should tell her. "We never fell out."
Y/N squinted with disbelief, her head dropping as if she were waiting for the rest of the answer.
"That's bullshit, and you know it." Y/N scoffed, "We haven't talked in months, why?"
Millie groaned with frustration, something was obviously bothering her, if not many things at the same time. She grabbed at her hair, leaning back into the couch.
She was really hurting.
"Mills," Y/N spoke softly this time, thinking that force was not the move here. "Just talk to me."
Millie looked at Y/N with vulnerable eyes, as if she were worried she could get in trouble for even being with her in the first place.
"It's just.." Millie looked down, her hands holding themselves in her lap. "I'm just scared."
"Of what?" Y/N asked, leaning over to try and see her face underneath her falling hair.
Millie suddenly seemed to realize of what she was about to say, and stopped herself.
"N-Nothing, never mind."
"Millie."
"It's nothing, I-.."
"Millie, just talk to me!" Y/N just wanted to understand what was wrong with her best friend, becoming upset with the lack of answers.
"I can't!"
"Why not? What are you afraid of?"
"Finn!"
Millie's final blurt of words startled Y/N, making her furrow her eyebrows in confusion.
"Wait..what?" She asked, adjusting her position on the couch to see a better look at her facial expressions.
"Finn!" Millie blurted again, this time with frustration. "I-I'm scared of Finn." Millie bit her lip to prevent any further aggression.
It was odd seeing Millie this way, since she was always the confident one in the friendship.
But with the roles now reversed, Y/N found it foreign to now be comforting Millie.
"W-What are you talking about?" Y/N asked, this time, more defensively then anything.
Why would she talk about Finn? She never talks to him.
What the hell could Millie be afraid of about him?
"Because," Millie breathed, trying to compose herself before delivering her next sentence.
"He's blackmailing me."
Millie always thought the rumors about Finn were true..
