At Cecile and Barry's Apartment

Barry walks in and hears Cecile talking on the phone she ends the call and Barry says "Hey, who was on the phone?"

Cecile says "Um, another lawyer, she was helping answer some questions about Iris starting a newspaper."

Barry says "That's cool. What'd she say?"

Cecile says "You know, it doesn't matter. Iris is actually not sure that the timing is right, and I really want to focus on Team Flash and stopping Cicada."

Barry says "Yeah, but--"

Then his phone buzzes.

Barry says "Oh, hold on." he grabs his phone and answers.

Barry says "Hey. Slow down, slow down."

Barry looks at Cecile and says "It's Sherloque."

Barry says shocked "Nora did what?"

At STAR Labs

Cecile asks "Why would Nora go in alone?"

Barry asks "And why isn't she out yet?"

Caitlin says "My working theory is that Grace's unique brain damage has caused her brain to act defensively, so when it sensed an outside presence, it moved all of its neural nexus pathways to seal the exits like a... a quarantine procedure."

Barry says "Grace's brain thinks Nora's a pathogen."

Caitlin says "Yes, we can expect its synaptic defense mechanisms to try and eliminate her."

Barry then hears a voice say "No. We won't let him hurt our daughter."

Sherloque says "Remember I told you about the Mad Hatter? He was also brain damaged, so after my dispute with Watsune and my fourth wife, Watsune pursued the case on his own until the day I found him hooked up to the Machine à Mémoire brain-dead."

Barry shouts "You knew this was a possibility? What happened to easy peasy?"

Sherloque says "That's why I say go in in pairs."

Cecile says "Barry, we have to go in after her."

Later

Cecile says "We can't warn her we're coming?"

Sherloque says "We wanted to install an emergency beacon, but it didn't work."

Caitlin said as Cecile and Barry were putting on their patches on the gurneys "So once you enter, it'll create a new portal. You'll only have a few moments to find Grace and Nora before Grace's brain tries to seal it off. Remember, if you die in there..."

Barry says along the symbiote's voice saying with him "We die out here. We remember from DeVoe."

Caitlin says "'We'? Barry?"

Barry says "The symbiote. It's talking to me. It keeps saying 'we' as if we're one person. But I guess that would make sense since it has the characteristics of a symbiote it needs to bind with its host so it can live."

Caitlin says "Barry, it sounds dangerous."

Barry says "It can be. But We're not willing to let our daughter die. So get us in there, Cait."

Caitlin doesn't like it when he says us but nods and activates the device as she says "Commencing brainwave transmission."

Sherloque says "Good luck." as he plugs in something and they enter Grace's brain.

In the Mind World

At CCPD

Barry and Cecile enter and they look around.

Barry says "CCPD. All right, come on."

They walk down the stairs.

They heard an officer say "We found her hiding in the last car under the seat."

Singh asks "And her parents?"

A female officer says "No idea. She was on the Red Line headed downtown. Must've jumped the turnstile at Fourth and Waid."

Singh says "We can't just let her sleep on this bench."

Cecile saw who was on the bench and said, "Oh, my God. Barry."

Singh looks at her and says "Wait, is that Cecile Allen's daughter? Nora? Hey, Nora. Someone get her." as Nora took off into the Bullpen.

Barry says "We don't think we're in Grace's memories."

Cecile says "We're in Nora's."

Then the portal closed.

Barry puts his hands on his head.

Cecile asks "How did we end up in Nora's childhood memories?"

Barry says "We have no idea. We also have no clue how we're gonna rescue Nora from here."

Cecile says "Okay. Okay, we're in a memory within a memory, right?"

Barry nodded and said, "Yeah."

Cecile then thinks and says "So if we went through a portal, then... It should take us into Grace."

Barry nods and says "Okay, yeah, we just have to wander through Nora's memories until we find where the portal went."

Cecile says "Okay."

Then they saw young Nora run past them and Barry said, "Maybe she'll lead us right there."

And when he grabbed Cecile his lightning was black as he ran after Nora.

Then when they stopped it looked like they were in the lounge of STAR Labs, but it said Flash Museum.

They heard indistinct chatter and Barry said, "Whoa. What happened here?"

Cecile says "I guess in Nora's future, STAR Labs is--"

They both say in unison "The Flash Museum."

Barry laughs and says "No way. Look at this. Flash toys and Flash phones. Flash rings. Are you kidding? Wow."

Cecile says "This is all gonna go to your head, isn't it?"

Barry saw a figure of himself and said, "Oh, you know what? It looks like it might."

Cecile smiles and says "Oh, that is very cute."

Barry laughs and Cecile taps his arm and says "Hey, I found her."

They turned and saw Nora looking into a book.

Cecile asks "You think we can talk to her?"

Cecile wrapped her arm around Barry as he said, "No. We wish. This might be the only time we get to see her at this age. Nora's consciousness isn't here, though. It's in Grace. This is a fixed memory. We can't interfere."

Cecile says "When I was ten, I wasn't running away from home."

Barry says "That's 'cause you were a good kid. We ran away all the time."

Cecile says "Yeah, only 'cause you were trying to see your dad. Not 'cause you were running from someone."

Barry knew what she was talking about and looked at her.

Cecile says "Oh, hey, we should keep trying to find the portal."

Barry nods.

Later

They followed Nora until the Speed Lab now named the Hall of Villains.

Barry says "Wait. These guys get their own wing?"

Then they heard a voice say "Who is Cicada? Officials believe he is Orlin Dwyer. A meta-human born on the Enlightenment."

Cecile says "Barry, maybe we should keep looking for the portal."

Then they heard "But when Cicada resurfaced in 2024 after the Flash vanished, some were left to speculate that Cicada is not a man at all, but an immortal monster. All we know for sure is his body count, 152 victims and rising."

Barry says "Wait, what? We knew we never caught Cicada, but he never stops killing?"

Singh on the panel says "Flash did everything he could, even had a powerful suit that could have stopped him, but Cicada killed more people than Zoom or even the Red Death. And the way the city saw the Flash, his legacy...it was never the same."

Then a voice says "Nora Samantha Allen II, you are in serious trouble, young lady."

Barry and Cecile saw it was Cecile in Nora's memories.

They were shocked.

Cecile in Nora's memory says "Did you think you would run away and I couldn't figure out where you went? It's my job to find out the truth. I'm a lawyer."

Nora says "You're always a lawyer. Why not be my mom for once?"

Cecile says "Oh, yeah? How's this for being your mom? You are never coming back to this place again. Let's go."

She grabbed her arm felt something and said, "Excuse me, what is in your pocket?"

Nora took it out and saw the Flash figure.

Cecile says "Hand that over right now."

Nora says "It's not yours."

Cecile says "Well, it is now. There are consequences to your actions. Hand it over." as she tries to grab the Flash figure.

Then she dropped it and it broke.

Cecile with Barry tries to walk over but Barry stops her in her place.

Nora yells "I hate you."

Cecile in Nora's memory says "Leave it. Let's go." and they walk out of there.

Cecile sighs and Barry says "Cecile, that wasn't you."

Cecile says "Yeah, but it will be, Barry. Nora's gonna grow up hating her mother."

Barry says "No, she won't. You're gonna make different choices. If you don't wanna be that person that we just saw, don't be that person."

Cecile says "I know. I know you keep saying that, Barry and that's what I'm trying to do. I had a moment today and I thought that maybe if I could change the timeline now, that even in the smallest way that-- I don't know. That everything in the future would be somehow different."

Barry asks "Is this why you changed your mind about the newspaper."

Cecile says "When I talked to the other lawyer, I asked her to check a dozen potential names and guess which one was the only one that cleared. The 'Central City Citizen'."

Barry says "We know it's got baggage, but it's just a name."

Cecile asks "Is it? I mean, we've been looking at the front page for four years. 'Flash Missing, Vanishes in Crisis'. And I'm the one who wrote that article, Barry. Before it was Iris when you were destined to be with her, but now that you're with me... I'm a lawyer and a reporter. I just thought that I don't know, maybe if Iris and I don't start the paper, that--"

Barry says "Cecile, this is your and Iris' dream, and the city needs somebody like you."

Cecile says "Yeah, but, Barry, look where it gets us. These are Nora's memories right now in this timeline after she interfered. Let's keep looking for the portal, okay? Nora needs our help."

Barry looked at the Reverse-Flash suit on a mannequin as he walked after Cecile.

Later

They were in the Lounge and Barry walked in and said, "We can't find the portal anywhere. We can't even get out of Nora's memories of this one day."

Cecile saw something behind him and yelled "Barry, get down!"

As they hide behind the counter.

Barry looks up and sees the Reverse-Flash suit walking without a person inside.

Barry says "It's Nora's defense mechanism."

As he looks at Cecile she looks at him.

Then after looking around it super-sped away.

Cecile sighs along with Barry, and then a cell phone rings as they both gasp.

With a ringtone that is similar to the Flash theme that was made.

Cecile answers and says "Cecile Allen."

Over the phone, she hears "Mom? Dad?"

Cecile asks "Nora, are you okay?"

Then Sherloque over the phone says "Listen. We made an important discovery."

Caitlin says over the phone "To get you out of there."

Sherloque says "The portals are hidden in perception gaps."

Caitlin says "Things that you remember the way you want them to be, not the way they actually were."

Sherloque says "'Cause you're in denial or your perception was colored by anger or what have you."

Caitlin says "So these defense mechanisms, they're composed of synapses. If you can break down the synapses in the false memory, that will reveal the real memory and the synaptic jolt will expose the portal."

Cecile says "Okay, so-- okay, well, how do we do that?"

Sherloque says "Well, uh, we'll have to call you back. You're burning up."

Cecile asks "How do we know which memories weren't real?"

Barry then remembered and said, "Of course... Cecile, it's the Hall of Villains. You and Nora."

Cecile says "Barry, I still dampen Nora's power. She still grows up hating me. This is my future."

Barry says "No, no, it's not. It's just a memory, one warped from the perspective of a sad, angry, little kid that ran away from home. Don't you get it? That person we saw in there, the bad mom that Nora told us about, she doesn't exist in any timeline. I told you you had to be different in the future, but I was wrong. You don't have to change who you are. You don't even have to change the name of your and Iris' newspaper. I know any future with you in it is gonna be a good one. You just gotta believe that too."

Cecile nods at that.

Later in the Hall of Villains

Cecile and Barry looked around and she said, "I don't see the portal anywhere."

Barry activated his speed and looked around and saw the Reverse-Flash suit with its eyes glowing red as Barry sped at him.

Then speeding around Iris in circles.

Then Barry slams the suit into the wall as a wave of blue energy fixes the Flash figure.

Cecile says "Barry, it's working!"

Barry and the suit continued to run around and he was pushed into the railing as the Reverse-Flash says "Death. Failure. Another broken family. This is the legacy I gave you."

Barry screams as tentacles come out of his body pushing the Reverse-Flash back.

Barry looked at Reverse-Flash and says "Nobody breaks up my family, you son of bitch."

As he disappeared from the blast Barry gave him.

Then Cecile came over and they both saw what really happened with Nora.

Cecile in Nora's memory bends down and sees her figure on the ground and says "Oh, no."

Then she was on her knees looking at her daughter and said, "You dropped your toy."

Nora says "I just wanted to see the museum."

Cecile says "I know, honey, but you ran away. I didn't know where you went. I was afraid you could have gotten hurt."

Nora says "You said the museum reminded you of Dad 'cause Dad was the Flash's number one fan. So I wanted to see it. 'Cause I love the Flash too. It's not fair." she rubs her eyes.

Cecile says "I know, honey. I know it's not fair. I love you, Nora. Your dad loved you too. So, so much. Come here, girl." and they hugged.

Cecile with Barry just watched the memory unfold as tears were forming in their eyes.

Then a sound caught Barry's attention and turned to see the portal opened.

Barry says "Come on. We gotta go. Let's go get Nora."

Later

Barry and Cecile got in to see Nora being attacked by Cicada in Grace's mind and Barry hit him as he was pushed back.

Cecile went to check on Nora and Nora said, "Mom."

Barry saw Grace and said, "Hey."

Nora grabbed her Dad's arm and said, "She's not coming."

Barry says "What?"

Nora says "Hurry!"

Barry looked at Cecile and said, "Come on. Come on."

And they ran through the portal.

In the Real world

Barry, Cecile, and Nora wake up as they gasp.

Caitlin says "They're okay."

Sherloque whistles.

The three sighs as Delsin, Kallie, and Samantha walk in.

Delsin asks "What the hell happened? I thought I was joining you?"

Barry says "We'll talk about that later, Delsin."

Later in the Med Lab

Caitlin says "Neural oscillations are normal. You three are perfectly healthy. Oh, and we think we've figured out how you two ended up in Nora's brain."

Cisco pulled up a dark matter scan and said, "That is a satellite shard full of dark matter in Grace's head."

Sherloque says "Mon dieu."

Caitlin says "Sometimes surgeons leave a piece of shrapnel in a patient's brain if it's too dangerous to remove, and we think that the dark matter was seeping out to create a barrier around her brain. We can't go back in as long as it's there. It's too dangerous."

Cecile says "Well, we need to find another way to stop Cicada."

Nora says "I think I might be able to help with that."

She walked over to a piece of paper and started to draw at super speed.

She turned it to them and said, "It's the inside of Dwyer's house."

Caitlin says "Whoa."

Cisco says "Damn."

Barry says "We mean, that's great. But why did you go in without us? We had a plan."

Nora says "No, I know, um... You know, just with the machine being ready and knowing that Cicada was still out there I guess I just, um, I got a little excessive."

Sherloque says "It's not the only reason, though, right? It was protecting her secret."

Barry asks "What secret is that?"

Kallie was trying to think of a way out and Sherloque says "Well, her feelings for her mother when she was a child. Must be painful memories. Is that correct, Nora?"

Nora says "Yeah, exactly."

Kallie says "Yeah. That's true."

Cecile says "Okay, um, let's get started on this lead. Good job, Nora."

Nora says "Thanks."

Everyone leaves the room and Sherloque says to Barry as he is leaving "Monsieur Allen, just for my records of today's events, what was the defense mechanism Nora was using?"

Barry turned to him and said, "It was one of the costumes from the museum."

Sherloque asks "What costume?"

Barry says "The Reverse-Flash."

Next day

At the new CCC Media

Barry and Nora were in the office waiting for Cecile and Iris.

Nora saw Cecile and Iris enter as she yelled, "Surprise!"

Barry says "Happy first day in your guys' new office."

Cecile says "You're so sweet."

Iris says "You are. And It's nice to see you, Barry."

Barry says "You too, Iris."

They all laugh as Barry and Nora hand champagne to the girls.

Nora asks "So have you decided what you're gonna name the paper?"

Iris says "We don't know. 'Central City Citizen' has a certain ring to it."

Cecile nods.

Barry says "Are you two sure?"

Cecile says "Yeah, you were right. The future isn't always what it seems. We decide what it gets to be."

Nora says "So, um, I just have to tell you one little thing."

Then she activates her gauntlet and it shows the newspaper.

Nora asks "See that ledger down there? That's the year the paper was founded in my time."

Barry says "2021. That's two years from now."

Then the year changed to 2019 and Nora says "You're changing the future already."

Barry says "Hey, um, I gotta find Cisco, but I'll see you guys later, all right?"

Nora says "Okay."

Barry says "I love you, Cecile, Nora. You too, Iris."

Iris smiles and says "I know, Barr. Just get to Cisco."

At STAR Labs

Barry walks into Cisco's lab and says "Hey, did you guys make a breakthrough with the meta-human cure?"

Cisco says "We did. I managed to locate a pair of meta-non-meta siblings, so this cure, it's as good as done."

Barry says "All right, good, because I've been thinking. I want to use the cure on Cicada."
