Chapter 10
Crash!
My eyes grew wide as the dish I was holding shattered on the ground. "Wh-What did you just say?" I asked, unsure if I had heard correctly.
Delsin and Reggie sat at the kitchen table, finishing off the last of the breakfast while I began to wash the dishes. Reggie glanced at his brother nervously, but Delsin was too busy eating what must have been his third stack of waffles to notice.
"Mph...." Delsin swallowed the bite of waffles that he had been chewing. "I said, how'd you like to get your powers back?"
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Did he just say my powers? No, there was definitely no way he said that. I must have misheard him. I mean, getting back my powers would be impossible, right? "My....my powers? Delsin, what are you t-"
"Just hear me out." Delsin cut me off. Now finished with his meal, he had gotten up and placed his dirty dishes in the sink. Walking over to me, he began to help me pick up the scattered shards that had once been a plate. "Around the city the D.U.P. have placed what are called core relays. You may have seen them. By absorbing the energy that they hold, conduits can unlock new abilities. Now, I think that if we can find one of them, we might be able to get back some of yours."
"You can do that?" I asked.
"Sure! It's worked for me so far. So why wouldn't it for you?" Delsin stood up, holding some of the broken pieces of the plate. "So, what do you say? Ready to get some revenge on Augustine?"
I looked from his face then to his hands before looking back up again. After a few seconds my stunned expression suddenly turned into one of pure joy.
"OH MY GOD! OF COURSE, DELSIN!" I screeched as I tackled him. All of the broken pieces that he had gathered was knocked out of his hands, returning to the floor in more, smaller pieces. "YES! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! AH! DELSIN! I CAN'T EVEN-!!!!" In my enthusiasm, I gave Delsin a long kiss on the cheek before returning to glomp him.
"Whoa, hey there! Let's calm down a bit, Bella!" Delsin tried to pry free from my grip. Not that he wasn't enjoying my gratitude and all, but he wasn't sure that all of this affection would appeal to Reggie's already grumpy mood. "Let's not be too hasty, there's still a few rules that we've gotta set."
I pulled away from Delsin, eager to hear what he had to say. After all, the sooner we finished talking the sooner we could get to my powers. "Okay, yeah. Shoot." I replied giddily.
Delsin straightened himself up. "Reg?" He asked.
Taking that as his cue, the officer began to lay down the rules. "Alright, before we jump into this, there are some conditions." Reggie's stern expression immediately quieted down my bubbling excitement. "One, when we take you to the core relay you've got to do everything that Delsin and I say. We don't want Augustine or the D.U.P. knowing what it is that we're up to. Two, after you get your powers you're going to need to use them whenever we ask for help. That means no going off on your own, no fighting the D.U.P., and definitely no wandering through the streets in broad daylight. Got it?" I nodded my head. "Good. Now three, Delsin has brought it to my attention that it isn't exactly discreet for him to be sleeping out on the streets all of the time." He glanced at his brother before letting out a sigh. "So, if it's alright with you, Delsin would like to stay here for a while. Not live here. Just to be able to crash here whenever he needs to."
I glanced at Delsin then back at Reggie. There was something they weren't telling me. "What about you?" I asked Reggie. "Aren't you going to stay too?"
Reggie shook his head. "No. So far I have gotten by just fine and since I'm not a conduit, it'll be easier for me to blend in with the crowd."
'Oh, now I get it.' I glanced at Delsin. 'He's dumping his brother off at my place so that it'll make his job easier. That, or Delsin begged Reg to let him stay here. Probably both.'
"So," Delsin snuck up from behind me. "Do we have a deal?" I studied his outstretched hand before grabbing it firmly with my own.
"Deal." I agreed. Delsin smirked. "Well then. I guess that we're now roommates."
I responded with a smirk of my own. "Careful Delsin. You still haven't seen the full extent of my powers."
"Lookin' forward to it, Bella."
'Oh, THIS is going to be fun.' We both thought simultaneously.
