THERE is a goddess, the daughter of the harvests. Soft springs and golden summers, she learns to live an easy life. Stifled, minimized, contained, she begins to seek power elsewhere. She rejects the world above for the powers that exist below, and the legends of the Old Naboo give her two names. Two faces like a coin, the soft summer breeze attributed to Persephone, and the harsh winds that kill attributed to Kora.

CORA GRENÉ is told this story when she is young, and a part of her knows that this one, this one is different. Of all the tall tales, this one must be real.

Legacy has turned its back on the Grené family, and it was by no accident that their home sits far removed from Theed, a city once controlled by goodness and grace and bounty. Now, Queen Dalné is a puppet ruler and Palpatine reigns control over the planet from the far-off Imperial Senate. Her parents have played this game once before. Their footsteps are as wide as oceans, and Cora knows she can't fill them. But the scythe falls as it always does, and suddenly things that were never meant to be spoken aloud are breathed back to life. The minutiae was a ruse for a darker truth that was building bridges in the shadows. Cora is left without a choice but to be swept up in the current. She learns why Persephone left the world of sunlight: it is easier to burn roots than it is to grow new ones.

LUKE SKYWALKER is told a different story: You'll know when it's too late. It will ache in your bones, the tell-tale sign that the long day is over and there is no tomorrow. The galaxy has been in this place for as long as Luke has lived his life. At the edge of nothing, the precipice of war. And still, for all the talk of carnage, the only thing that greets him when the twin suns rise are shifting sands and another day of the same story told again. Tatooine feels like an aftermath; the nothing and the everything. It is consistent, at least.

Legacy has never been kind to his family, that he knows to be true. The Skywalkers were friends to a galaxy that was led to ruin, and the rest is a mystery better left to someone else. He will find that there is no way to run from your own shadow. He grabs the chance to leave and takes it for everything it is, embarking on an entire way of living that he only half-believed was possible. There he finds the real answer: it is almost too late.

Both stories are true.
Also true stands this: There are no silver linings in ghost stories.

𝐖𝐄𝐋𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐄  𝐓𝐎  𝐈𝐍𝐅𝐀𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐒

(one.) THE STORY: This story will follow the events of A New Hope through Return of the Jedi, as well as some of the events that occur within my canon-divergent timeline in the time before The Force Awakens.  Cora Grené's story intertwines with the other books of the Space and Time Universe (as stated above).  Those can be read in any order (or as stand-alones if you aren't feeling all of them!) as they're connected in a non-linear way :) 

(two.) THE NABOO LORE: I've always loved the nuance of Naboo and playing with the juxtaposition of destruction and lies within a city that's really just so gorgeous. The language/lore of the Old Naboo is something I developed out of the bare bones of canon and legends information.  The language is based in Latin, complete with Roman mythological influences.  I've put a lot of effort into adding some Greek/Roman nuances and influences. Orpheus/the lyre (lyranna) is a part of the same myth if you're familiar with the story. Cora (or Kora/Kore) is attributed to the goddess Persephone in Greek myth. I put my own little spin on the story (space version you could say?), but this was kind of my thought process behind it.

I really did put all of my percy-jackson-nerd knowledge to good use 😎

(three.) THE KRO VAR: The Grené history is tied into the lore of the Kro Var, which is a Legends concept related to the Nightsisters of Dathomir & The Ones (if you've watched the clone wars show, you have a leg up on this, but if you haven't do not worry!! I explain everything throughout the story🙃).  Cora's Aunt Phoebe is very instrumental to this part of their family heritage, and it dives into supernatural abilities that aren't necessarily derived from the Force itself.  Phoebe Grené is partially inspired by a character from a book series I loved when I was younger (Grassina from E.D. Bakers 'The Frog Princess', if you know what I'm talking about we're automatically friends).  She's a super cool free-spirit wine aunt that's always bringing vaguely dangerous things to the lives of the Grené fam 🤸🏻‍♀️

(three.) THE CHARACTERS: To keep things clean (this is new for me, it is normally a ✨mess✨), I put all other characters and their faceclaims in a separate chapter.  This is for reference for any confusion that might come up, and also so you can see who the heck is involved in this story!  Cora is the middle daughter of three and it's very central to her role in the family, so you can check out the full cast in the dramatis personae chapter :) 

My darling Cora is partially inspired by Addie LaRue and Danielle De Barbarac (from 'Ever After') who both happen to be some of my favorite characters of all time (so lets hope that this doesn't flop for their sake because that shid would be embarrassing🧍)
