Amber's P. O. V

I suddenly feel warmth on my face while I lay on my more than comfortable bed. I turn my face away and the warmth dissappears, that's when I conclude it was the sun rays falling on my face.

I hear faint footsteps walking around my room and I immediately know it's my housekeeper, who is preparing everything before she finally wakes me up. I feel around my bedside table for my stick to find it right there. I sit up straight and lift the covers off me before turning and placing my feet on the cool tiles.

I may have woken up and my eyes are open but it's still the same, a black screen.

I straighten my stick and that noise must have alarmed my housekeeper. I hear her run towards me.

"Good morning darling. Come, let me help you here," she says and I feel her coming towards me.

"No. It's alright. I guess after so many years I have learnt to move around my room just fine. Thanks anyway," I tell her and get up.

Even though I have lost my eye sight, I can almost feel the sad smile on her face. She comes very morning and get my clothes ready, my bath ready and guides me around like I lost my eyesight just yesterday.

She does everything my mother should do, but since my mother decided to abandon me and run away like a coward, my housekeeper is doing it.

People feel betrayed when their friends leave them in times of need. How should I feel? My mother left because she possibly couldn't take care of her daughter who lost her eyesight when she was five.

She probably might excuse herself saying that she is earning the money they will need to get my operation done, once I'm eighteen, after which there is a possibility that I might be able to see again. But I don't think she needed to do it. My father never asked her to.

My father is no different.

My brother is too busy trying to overcome his sadness to realise he has a blind sister.

My friends feel burdened when they have to guide me around.

And who wants a blind girlfriend? Especially, when she won't let you kiss her till she gets her eyesight back.

It's been twelve years. Twelve years since I saw anything. I can barely remember how my mother looked. My brother was a blue eyed cute kid then, I wonder what he looks like now. I do know he looks good because he has all girls in school falling for him or Ethan.

In school, I'm just Rey Field's poor sister who lost her eyesight. No body makes fun of me, not publicly at least, because they are scared of my brother.

I move to my bathroom effortlessly since I know the count of steps. My room is the only place I can move about in freely without any danger because I know it so well now. I barely go out for that reason. I can't move about alone and I don't have anyone to move about out with. My outings are only limited to the few times that Rey takes me for one, just out of pity.

I finish all my morning washroom tasks and move out. I move my hand in the air towards the table beside my washroom door to find the clothes my housekeeper must have kept there. I change and find my way back to my bed.

It's our summer break and the last one before my brother goes to college and I have to spend my senior year without him. I wonder what school will be like without him.

I settle down on the bed and I feel a table on wheels move towards me. My housekeeper gets my bed side table with my breakfast on it and places it in front of me.

I lift up my sandwich and begin munching on it.

"How is it? Do you like it?" my house keeper asks me and I give her a small smile.

"Yeah,its really good," I tell her and an comfortable silence falls over us. I know she is watching me, I can feel it.

It's like if one sense is taken away from you, an other one becomes stronger automatically. I barely finish my breakfast when I hear heavy footsteps outside my room and then opening and closing of my door.

"Oh good, you're awake!" my brother's voice reaches me and immediately I hear fading footsteps.

"Hey Amber, how you doing?" Ethan asks me and I realise those fading footsteps is no one but Evelyn.

"I'm fine. So what work do you guys have?" I ask, getting straight to the point. It's not like they had come to meet me.

"You're sister is pretty smart Rey," Ethan comments. Rey gets a chair for himself and the entire neighbourhood probably knows because of the noise he made.

"Got a chair finally?" I ask.

"Yeah, I did. Okay Amy, we have a problem," my brother starts and I nod my head, motioning him to continue.

"The school wants us to go to Mumbai, India. We need to participate in a competition and win it so we can get that extra edge and get admission in college," my brother explains and stops like I'm supposed to understand the rest.

"Okay, so go and win," I said the obvious thing out loud and I hear them letting out a sigh.

"That's the problem, Amber. Firstly we don't want to go and then going there and winning is another story altogether. It's a different country, different situation. Moreover, we have to compete in with a team. It makes it more difficult. Ofcourse it will be an adventure, but right now we need the admission, not adventure. So that's why we have to avoid going anyhow. We tried to convince the authorities, but it didn't work. We just have one way now," my brother explains and I kind of see where this is going.

"Since our parents our never in the city, I take care of you."

Yeah you take so much care of me.

"So, I told them that if I go, I will have to take you, just so they drop it. But they didn't mind that as well. Now the only one way is, that you say no. If you disagree, they will have to find another way out or at least consider it. I know it's shallow," he finishes and I nod my head in understanding.

So now I suddenly have to help him like a good sister especially after he tells me he used me for getting out of a situation.

"So you have to say-"

"Yeah, she lies so you both can escape responsibility like always. So you can run away from your problems like cowards," a very manly voice speaks and suddenly silence falls over the room.

"Dad, it's not like-" Ethan started off but he is cut off by his father.

"You know Ethan, I'm always cold to you regarding your academics because I want you work harder. I want you to push your limits. I want you to achieve more than you do. And I pushed you because I thought you could do it. But I was wrong. You are not capable of it. I wanted you to become an all rounder but I guess you are just happy and satisfied with what you have," Ethan's father expresses himself and I know without seeing that Ethan's head is hanging in shame. He and his father have their issues, but to this limit, I had no idea.

"So Rey, this is what you do when your parents are not at home huh?" he says and I can't really know what he means.

"This bug was found under the table. So, what exactly were you trying to listen to? If I was behind this?"

Oh my God! I don't believe it! My brother actually did that. I didn't know he uses his intelligence on making gadgets like this to spy on people!

"Yes, I was. I want you guys to go and face this. Now especially after what you were trying to do, you're definitely going to face it. Amber can decide if she wants to go or no. She is welcome at my house in case she doesn't want to go," he says and I hear returning steps.

"So Amber, what are you going to do?" Rey says in a small voice.

"I guess I have some packing to do."
